Am I missing something about Keynote video clips??

Okay, I had a devil of a time figuring out how to get video clips into Keynote. Here's what seems to work: convert the clip to .m4v, add it to iPhoto, sync with the iPad and do an import in Keynote and then the video file will show up in the Media tab. However, when I do this, none of my clips had titles! So I can't tell one clip from another except by playing them. Am I missing something here?
Also, when I tried importing the whole Keynote with the video clips from my iMac, the video clips were stripped out. Has anyone had better success? If so, how???

Toad, you are incorrect...
However it is a PIA to get it to work.
In very un-Apple-like fashion, it is a several step, unintuitive process that requires another program. Luckily a free program...
1. Convert your file with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) and use the iPad profile. (P.S. My original .mov file needed to be converted to work on iPad. The built-in "Create iPad or Apple TV version" function in iTunes would not work for me. I received a "The video is already in the correct format" message. Annoying...)
2. Put the converted file into a folder
3. With your iPad connected to your computer, go to iTunes and select the "Photos" tab on your iPad.
4. IN the "Sync Photos From:" drop down box choose "Select folder" and select the folder that contains your video.
5. Check the "Include Videos" check box.
6. Hit the "Sync" button
7. Now the video will be available in Keynote. No desktop version required...
P.S. I am a PC... Not a Mac.

  • Green Screen on Keynote video clips

    Hello,
This is my first post to Apple Discussions.
I have a Keynote 3.0 presentation which I have downloaded repeatedly from my organization's server as a zip file. The presentation is very large (over 250 slides and six to eight video clips) totalling 627 MB of file space.
My new MacBook (2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo, 1 GB RAM) never ran all the clips, but now doesn't run any. Actually it runs, as I can sometimes get audio, but I only get a ghostly radioactive-green screen color where the video image should be.
Other people on this forum have complained of the MacBook graphics, and how the VRAM can't be adjusted. Do this have something to do with my problem?
Are there any solutions or is all lost!
    Thank you in advance.

I'd ask if those videos are Mpeg1 movies as in the past there have been issues with mpeg1's showing up with green all over them.
Also, what version of K3 are you running, and what version of QuickTime? If they're both updated to the newest, than I have no idea what's going on.

  • Questions about editing video clips, images and text

I'm using the Expert mode and I'm having trouble with figuring out how to do certain things.
    1. I'm superimposing a picture of a scoreboard on my video and then I superimpose a text object on top of that so I can update the scores throughout the video.  I've placed on instance of the text object on my "Video 3" and now I want to change the score.  So I created another instance on the same "Video 3" timeline.  Now I want to close the gap between the two instances.  I would expect to be able to click on the gap in between and delete it but nothing happens.  I would also expect to be able to double click on the instance to access the specific start and end times that I see when I hover over it.  But again nothing happens.  So I've been magnifying the timeline so I can manually drag the two instances together.  Is there an easier and more precise way to close the gap?
    2. Is there an easier way to periodically change a text object without creating a bunch of instances?  My "project assets" folder is getting filled up quickly because the score is constantly getting updated and I keep creating a new instance for each score change.
    3. Is there a way to permanently combine two seperate video clips?  I've used the "group" option but there is still a divider that reminds me that the two were seperate.  I'd like to be able to combine the two and for it to look as if it was always just one large clip.
    4. When I use the scissors to cut a section out of the middle of a clip, the blue marker that shows where I am currently in the video stays in place.  So each time I cut out a section, I have to manually drag the blue marker over to the new beginning that was at the end of all the stuff I just cut.  Is there a preference to have the blue marker stay with you when you edit instead of it suddenly being far ahead of you in the editing process?
    Thanks!

Other than doing Duplicates of your Title, and editing those, as needed, the only other option would be to create the Titles in another program, such as Photoshop, then Save those as PSD's, to be Imported into PrE. The one downside of doing that, is that to edit those PSD "titles" is to Open them in Photoshop - the PrE Titler will not open them for the additional editing.
PrE does not have as much power to organize Assets, such as Titles, as does Premiere Pro, with both Bins and Folders (later versions). I always create a Bin, for my Titles, or even several Bins, for different types of Titles in the Project.
Maybe others will have a workflow, that I have not considered, so we both might learn something.
    Good luck,

  • Question about embedded video clips

    Hello all,
I'm importing embedded video clips for the first time today
and have run into what I'm sure is commonly understood by everyone
else here. The video clip takes up as many frames as the video, but
if I add frames after that, the clip starts to loop.
What I want is for the clip to play once then remain
displayed with the last frame visible to the end of the scene
timeline. I'm guessing I need to place a script on the clip or
something similar to keep it from looping? Thank you for any
    direction on this.
    Best regards,
    Scott

just place it in a Graphic symbol (which is an option in the
import wizard) or create a new graphic
symbol and drag the video icon from library to it - place
instance of Graphic symbol on stage -
select it and tell it to Play Once in Properties.

  • Am I missing something about font management in OS X?

    Hi all,
I figure I must be missing something ... all I want is for my fonts (managed using FontAgent Pro) to appear as families within apps - just like Type Reunion made them do in OS 9.
But for some reason I can't seem to achieve this ... surely it's possible.
You know the deal - scroll down the font list in any app, see the name of the family you want with a sub menu showing the styles available in that family.
    Any ideas?
    Cheers!

    Hi Thing_9,
Well, I can tell you that you won't find any improvement in Photoshop CS2. I haven't upgraded my other CS apps, but I'd be surprised if they were any different.
Whether or a program displays fonts by family group depends on how the app was written. I know what you mean about Type Reunion. That was a great little app that took care of the problem even if the applications you were using didn't themselves. You Control: Fonts is the only OS X app I've heard of that can do what you're looking for, but doesn't work for all programs.

  • Question about putting video clips together

I am trying to put clips together in Premier Elements 12 using Windows 7 Professional. I keep getting an error message: "This thype of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed."
I admit that the clips are mostly jpeg and Flip video. I have installed the Flipshare software on the computer. What can I do to put these clips together? I saw an answer that mentioned exporting the BBB.prel Timeline to an appropriate file saved to  the computer hard drive and then import that file into AAA.prel, using  AAA.prel's Add Media/Files and Folder/Project Assets from where you drag  the import to the Expert workspace Timeline to join the AAA.prel  content already there.
But I don't know how to export, and what is an "appropriate file"?
    Thanks.

We need more information in order to resolve your issue.
Are you saying that you cannot import even .jpeg photos into your Premiere Elements 12 Windows project...and your Flip video as well?
    a. Were these jpeg processed in Photoshop? Do you know if they have the CMYK color profile? What are their pixel dimensions (width and height in pixels)?
    b. What is the brand/model/settings of the camera producing the Flip video?
With the above information we can get at the media and program compatibility issue(s) that might be triggering the message "This type of file is not supported or the required codec is not installed."
You say that you have installed "Flipshare software" to your computer. What do you intend to do with it? If you are thinking to use it to convert the problem files into another format that Premiere Elements will accept, we still need to know the properties of what you are working with and set Premiere Elements accordingly.
The concept of using content from one Premiere Elements project file into another Premiere Elements project file does not apply to the situation that you describe for your issue.
You need to describe what you have for media and then we can proceed from there.
The brand/model/settings for the camera that produced the Flip video is a good start.
MediaInfo and gspot are programs to get at the properties of your video. But the brand/model/settings information may be all that we need.

Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Is It Possible To Obscure or Mosaic Something in a Video Clip in iMovie?

Here's what I'm trying to do... I have a clip of me on the local news that I would like to upload to MySpace or YouTube but it has my full name shown below me. I want to obscure at least my last name. Is this possible in iMovie? If not, any other ideas? Thanks in advance for any help!

  • Adding multiple video clips to a project?

This is my first use of imovie 11. I imported about 60 minutes of video from my camcorder. I now have about 100 video clips in the event library. I have no interest at all in editing any of the video clips. I simply want to take the hour of footage and make a dvd.
is there a way to move all the videos in the event library into the project window quickly? moving all 100 video clips individually seems very tedious, and I have many more hours of video to do.

    As you have no intention of editing your Event try this;
For this you do not even need to create a Project. I tried this out as an experiment a couple of years ago with HDV footage and it worked.
Having got your footage into the Event you can now close iMovie.
From Finder->iMovie Events open up your required Event Folder. You should now see a folder called "iMovie Movie Cache" In this folder you should see a QuickTime Movie called "Cache- 25 .mov   . This represents the footage that you have imported into your Event.
Now open up iDVD and drag this Cache-25.mov into iDVD to create your DVD.
I am not absolutely certain that you will see Cache-25.mov as this may depend on the source footage, (mine being HDV ) but you will be looking for Cache XX .mov  or something very similar.
As this does not depend on creating a Project you save the time on Exporting /Share from the Project.
You may wish at a later stage to edit your events and of course for this you need to create the associated Projects where the editing is performed. This is not quite so daunting as you might think. The Ken Stone links that Klaus has included above are very good.(as iMovie 09 has many similarities to 11)
Hopefully this method will allow you to get your video onto DVD in a quicker way.

  • Locking Sound Files to Video Clips

    Hello,
This is the problem that I am ecountering. If I'm working on a project and I delete the recorded sound from the video clips and then insert something from itunes but later change the video clips slightly (say by deleting a few seconds here or there) then all my sound files are not in the correct positions any longer.
Is there any way to lock sound files to the video clips so that if I delete something in a video clip later on that the sound file will move with the earlier video clips?
I hope I'm making myself clear. Sorry if I am not.
    Thanks.

Working with locked audio clips can be frustrating. I've noticed for several years that I've used iMovie. It seems if you change the length of the video clip BEFORE a section where you have locked audio clips to the video those "locked" positions do not stay. You will see the yellow pins out of line.
I am finding this helpful in my situation if I need to edit video before a section of locked clips.
    - In timeline view drag the first video clip to the right, (in the section of locked clips) thus creating a black space.
    - Do your editing that you need to before this black space
    - Now when you go back to the section with the locked audio clips. If you have changed the length of the video before this section you will find the yellow pins out of line.
    - However start dragging that first video clip a bit to the left (shortening the black space) and you should see the yellow pins pop back in alignment.
    - If needed select all the video clips in your section (using shift-click on the first clip and shift click on the last clip) and then drag all back into position (removing the black space)
This may be a work around for those trying to edit and keep those locked clips truly in place. Maybe someone has further insight on this.

  • A first step: Editing video clips before using them in a longer video?

I am an absolute beginner.  I have purchased Premiere Elements 7 and I bought the Premiere Bible and am reading that.
My question is, Premiere seems to be software designed primarily to help you make a video production by joining together video clips, sound clips, and photos.  Is there a step before this, though, namely editing the clips as they come out of your camera?
I've been using PhotoShop for years, and typically when I take a still photo I open it in PhotoShop and adjust saturation, brightness, sharpness, maybe white balance, rotate if needed, etc.
Is there another piece of software designed to help do this kind of basic editing to a single video clip?  For example, if the clip came out too dark, is there a way to brighten things up?
I'd really appreciate any answers, and if there is a book or article you could suggest about editing video clips I would appreciate the recommendation!

    Stephen,
    First, welcome to the forum.
Next, and this does depend on your camera, you Capture your video from the camera, using a Preset for your Project, that matches the material from your camera.
Now comes the "RAW conversion," though I am using that term VERY loosely. Many people will do basically a pre-edit, by Dbl-clicking the Captured Video in the Project Panel. This opens it in the Source Monitor, where one sets  the In and Out Points, basically doing a loose edit of the scenes. The Clip in the Source Monitor can then be dragged to the Timeline. Each is done this way, until they all appear, in the order that you want, on the Timeline. Note: you can drag from the Project Panel, and do this in the Timeline too. Also note: when you play the Timeline, you are now looking at the Program Monitor.
At this stage, one touches up the edits, and adds any desired Effects.
Usually last is any Audio work, like adjusting the Clip's Audio, or adding Narration, and/or Soundtrack.
Export/Share is the final step and one can choose their delivery format.
The exact workflow is a bit different than processing an image in PS, but not totally alien.
    Good luck,

  • Storing video clips in iPhoto

I'm new to the Mac world, so pardon my ignorance.. I have about 250 video clips that I've taken on my digital camera that I currently have stored in iPhoto. I recently purchased an Apple TV to view photos and videos on my TV. In order to view the video clips on Apple TV, I had to add the videos to my iTunes library. Now when I go into the finder, I see that I've got a duplicate of each and every video - 1 stored in iPhoto, and 1 stored in iTunes. Is this really the best way to manage my video files? I thought about deleting all of the videos from my iPhoto library and just leaving them in iTunes, but I've noticed in iTunes there's no way to see the original creation date of the video... only "date modified".
I guess being new to Mac, I'm really not sure what best practices are when it comes to file management. I would have thought that I could leave the videos in one central library/location on the hard disk, and just have iTunes and iPhoto read from there.
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Ah video clips from Point and Shoot cameras - the unloved step children of the digital family. Video editors don’t really want to know because they are so compressed they don’t edit well, photo organisers don’t want to know because they a: aren’t photos and b: don’t have the basic metadata to store information like date taken and so on.
My advice: Rename the files to include the date taken: So, Our Party Jan 1, 2009 as a file name and store them in iTunes. Why? Because iTunes is where you’re going to get most use from them.

  • Glitchy purchased music files recourse - am I missing something?

I bought an album (Princess Mononoke Symphonic Suite) off the iTMS a little while ago, and several of the files turned out to have obvious audio glitches in them (it's orchestral, so it's clear that they're not just part of the song).
I of course don't know whether the originals were bad or just my download got corrupted, so I went through the "report a problem" links attached to the songs in my receipt, selected "The sound quality of this song is poor" from the dropdown, entered the time the glitch occurs in the field, and submit.
A few hours later, I get a set of standard replies that "Your request for a refund ... was carefully considered; however, according to the iTunes Store Terms of Sale, all purchases made on the iTunes Store are ineligible for refund."
Of course, I never specifically asked for a refund, just reported that the copy of the song I got was bad. I took this to mean that the originals are fine, but since they didn't download properly on the first try, I'm out of luck. The alternate explanation is that the originals are hosed, but it doesn't matter. There wasn't enough info in the replies to determine which of the two is the case here.
Now, technically, the terms and conditions do appear to say that you get what you get, but either paying for a corrupt song or not being allowed an attempt at re-downloading it seems... dishonest?
Am I missing something about this process, or is it standard that if you get a bad song you can either try re-buying it and hope that it was just your download that got corrupted, or live with it and buy a clean copy somewhere else?
Anybody else gotten a download that completed, but didn't play properly?

Contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form on their Support page (select the category and subcategory closest to the issue you're reporting and you'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) and explain your situation to them. Using the "report a problem" button doesn't give you much chance to explain, so it's easy for the probably overworked iTunes Store reps to not understand and just reject the request out of hand.
    Good luck.

  • Missing video clips, Keynote '09 5.1.1 (build 1034) and OS X 10.6.8

I use keynote quite a bit, and have a collection of perhaps fifty keynote talks written over the past five years.  But a serious problem has surfaced in the past day: if I open any of my keynote files, the VIDEO CLIPS DO NOT SHOW.  I can see the video clip (a static image) in the thumbnail image on the left.  I can also see the placeholder if I put the mouse over the video location on the slide.  But when I "play" the page, I just see a black box where the video should appear, with the usual play and pause buttons, etc.
If someone has experienced this problem, and/or has a solution, I would be grateful.  I have updated my OS on a regular basis, so as far as I know, everything is up-to-date.  It may be that a recent update has caused this; the last time that I looked at some keynote files a few weeks ago, everything was working OK.
(NOTE ADDED TEN MINUTES LATER: PROBLEM "SOLVED" BY SHUTTING DOWN ALL APPLICATIONS AND REBOOTING LAPTOP.)
Message was edited by: ProfBA, SOLVED

Step one: DL and reinstall the 10.6.8 v1,1 COMBO update, repair permissions, and restart.
If no go, reinstall Snow Leopard, repair permissions, and restart. If that works, make a bootable backup/clone of this installation, test it, then run Software Update to get back to 10.6.8.

  • Keynote 09 file containing video clips is Huge!

I'm a brand new user and the app looks like a real PowerPoint killer! Elegant graphics and capabilities. One key reason I bought it was to integrate looping video backgrounds on slides. I have tested this and the results have been hit and miss. For the most part it does everything I hoped it would and what PowerPoint (on Windows) absolutely CANNOT do...layer text and moving graphics on top of video. My first test file runs okay about 75% of the time. But sometimes the video clips freak out, looking like multi-colored pixel vomit! If I click around and select different slides it seems to go away. But I can't be confident in using this at a sales presentation for my company for fear it would crap out in the middle of a presentation.
That said, here's my first question: Is there a defacto-standard QuickTime format or codec that is more stable than others? I tried an MP4 QT movie as an alternative and all I got was a solid green box - no video.
Here's my second question: Why is my 3-slide file 427MB?! In Preferences I unchecked: "copy audio and movies into document." I deleted the clips, quit Keynote, restarted and re-inserted the clips and the file is still 427MB. The movies inside the file are 73MB, 103MB and 245MB...all pretty sizeable files. I'm going to try reducing the QuickTime movies using Compressor, but I wanted to ask here to see if anyone has the same issues.
    Thanks.

All depends on the size and codec of your .movs. I prefer h.264 as it uses the GPU to decode (so I am told) and looks superior to me and my film buddies over other codecs. Few Macs can playback uncompressed HDVideo, you really need a dedicated card like Blackmagic cards or the like.
Does not embed videos if you have de-selected relevant option in my experience. Try making a new file, setting save options (de-select audio&video files), save file. Drag slides across from old file and save. Should be good now. If still a problem, set option to save as a package. The right-mouse-button click on file in finder an "Show contents" that way you can see exactly what files have been embedded.
To tell you something you already know: the sum of 73MB, 103MB and 245MB is 421MB
Also, I have made HD res animations that play infinitely (except for Keynote QT time limit but mine can spool across slides) and never repeat in the same way (multiple variable loops) that are 20kB-100kB in size . That's one way around the size issue but only works for animations not recorded camera video.

  • Unexpected Error in Keynote wipes out pictures and video clips

I have been working for several days on a Keynote presentation. I went to save my file and received the following message:
"An unexpected error has occurred. Please quit and reopen Keynote"
All of the sudden, every single one of my pictures and video clips was gone. The text still remains. I closed Keynote and reopened my file and received "missing object" error messages for any slide with pictures or video clips.
I tried and tried to restore the file, with no luck. So I did a "Save As" - the new file has no pictures or video clips. I also tried to export with no luck either.
Then I went and was rebuilding the file. I manually put all my pictures and clips back in. About 2 1/2 hours into it, on a totally different slide than before (about 10 frames prior to where it crashed before) I went to save and got the same "Unexpected error" message and lost everything again.

    Permissions repair complete
This was the result of my permissions repair.
My question is if this crash was caused by the messed up permissions or not. I just don't want to dig into this Keynote again and have it crash on me and lose it all again.
    Any suggestions?

I redid the file again after the permissions repair and it did the same thing. Now, I can still see all my images and files, but it won't let me save. It says that the file cannot be saved. It won't let me export or do a Save As. Getting very frustrating...
