Am I missing something with upgrades?

I got your recent newsletter with the "speedometer", which showed I was using an older/slower version of Firefox -- plus there was that annoying black pop-up. I went ahead and upgraded as per instructions. Everything seemed to work fine. But when I went back to check, the "speedometer" showed I was still using the older/slower Firefox and the pop-up popped up again. So I upgraded a second time. Again everything went smoothly. But when I went back to the "speedometer" it showed I was still using the same older/slower Firefox. Am I missing something?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly on this. Turns out I had downloaded but not installed. Clicked on download, wizard appeared, installation a breeze after that.
And, of course, the new Firefox is nice and fast. (I also double-checked speedometer and it's really in.)

Am I missing something with the concat method under the String class?

System.out.println(testStr);It compiles fine but all I get is "I am here"

javadoc, unfortunately I didn't understand exactly
what I was reading. That was in no way obvious from your first post though.
That's why I asked the question.
Have any of you ever had to ask a question. If so was
it over experimental material that you couldn't read
or research about on your own? There is a difference between the act of asking a question and the actual nature of the question itself.
Some people ask

sincere gratitude. You help development to be less
aggravating. It's unfortunate that you have to deal
with anyone that doesn't try to come up with the
answer themselves and thus assume they don't try to
figure it out on their own. I would ask for some
slack, and maybe occasionally give the benefit of the
doubt that someone was just not getting something.
But many people don't try to figure it out themselves.
And those people will ask the question in exactly the same way as one who did try alternatives but didn't bother to indicate that the alternatives were tried.
So how are we supposed to figure out what the poster has done?
And without my post how would anyone here even known that you knew what the javadocs were?

For the love of Jeebus, please tell me I am missing something with PP's janky audio workflow

OK, I've read the help docs, gone through the tutorials, watched the videos. Still I am not finding an efficient workflow for dealing with audio in PP. Let's face it, audio in 5.5 was completely baffling to us newbies jumping ship from FCP 7, and I thought the CS 6 update was going to simplify things. No dice. As I am a somewhat recent transplant, I am willing to admit that…. wait, nay, I'm HOPING that I am probably missing something here and that it's just stupid operator error. Fingers crossed.
Here's my situation. I am editing a documentary that has hundreds of hours of footage and thousands upon thousands of clips. We are working with three different kinds of audio: stereo, mono 1 & 2 (interviews with a lav mic on channel 1 and boom on channel 2) and mono (interview on channel 1 with lav microphone only). Here's my problems:
If I set the audio so that they're all stereo clips
Then I'm running into problems with the mono 1 & 2 tracks. Say the boom audio is better on the right channel, and I want to silence the left. I turn the left channel off. Then I want the boom audio to be on both channel's equally… well, I can't figure out a way to do that. In FCP, I would just put the pan to center, and the audio would play the right channel's audio on both channels equally. With PP, panning does nothing but adjust how much of the boom is heard, as opposed to how much the lav (now silent) is heard. I can't find a way to pan the boom to the center, so that it is heard equally on both channels.
If I set the audio so that they're all mono 1 & 2 clips
Doing this solves the boom/lav problem as listed above, as the mono tracks seem to center pan and play on both channels equally, so simply deleting the lav works well. However, now if I have a stereo song that I want to keyframe some fades in (say a music bed playing in the background that I want to fade lower when a person starts talking)… now I have to pen tool in keyframes for the left track AND the right track separately, try to get the fades to match on each track, then separately fade the audio back in for each track. So essentially I've DOUBLED my work for each of the tracks I've marked this way.
As a note, I love having found this out the hard way, after editing a 20 minutes interview into bits and pieces scattered across my timeline, and then finding out I should have set the audio to Mono 1 & 2. Easy enough, I thought, as I went back to the Project window, found the original clip, then went to modify the audio so it would work in my project. I got the extremely helpful message that "Any changes you have made to the number of clips or the type of those clips will not be reflected in the existing timelines. Do you want to continue?" YEAH! That's super. You might as well have put "Making this change now will do nothing to help you. You'll have to go back and edit everything again. Do you want to continue?" Great, Adobe, thanks. Bang up job there.
I was really happy about not having to transcode in PP like I used to have to do in FCP 7. That was until I realized how the audio worked, and for the latest scene of this documentary had to go through every clip/camera download to figure out how the audio had to be set-up before I could start editing. Transcoding a big job used to take me a day. Configuring the audio in PP for this one scene took two.
I would be the happiest person on the planet to find out that I've been wasting my time and that there is a simple solution for all of this. Hope someone can point me in the right direction and thanks for any help!

I'm not suggesting any of this as a model, and your needs are different than mine.
1) Go to Preferences -> Audio. Under "Default Audio Tracks", Set "Mono Media: Mono". Set "Stereo Media: Mono" (Choices from the pull-down for both are Use File, Mono, Stereo, 5.1, Adaptive)
You can change these, but I don't. I am using both mono and stereo tracks. I set up a custom sequence with the particular combination of stereo and mono tracks I want.
2) Set audio for clips by selecting all clips and going to Modify Clip -> Audio Channels Tab. Under "Number of Audio Tracks" there should be a "1". Under Channel Format it should read "Stereo".
I am not sending the audio to anyone else to edit further. I am doing a final stereo mix. If camera one is set up to record 2 mikes as a stereo track, then I leave that unchanged and put it onto a stereo track. If camera two is set up to record one mike onto channel 1 as ambient sound and channel 2 is a mono feed from a sound board, then I modify those clips as Preset Mono, 2 audio tracks, Channel format Mono, and that puts the left source channel (or whichever I choose) onto Audio track 1, channel 1 (of one), and right source channel onto audio track 2, channel 1.
4) Delete all the existing audio tracks in the sequence and replace them all with mono tracks, so all tracks in the sequence are mono.
I modify the tracks while creating the sequence, and ultimately use a custom sequence.
Under my Effects Controls panel there is only Channel Volume, and nowhere to adjust the pan.
I'm using the mixer, not the effects control panel.

Am I missing something with Contact Groups on iPhone?

I cannot use contact groups to create emails
I cannot use contact gropus to create group iMessages (or txts)
Are they purely used as an organizational tool for the address book/contacts on my iphone?
I can do all of the above on my computer or on the web based icloud (which is also oddly unavailable natively on the iphone) but I cannot do any of the above on my phone.
Am I missing something? A preference in my settings somewhere?
Seems like a huge misstep somewhere.

You can provide feedback to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback. Groups has always been an issue with the iPhone. There has been a number of posts about an app in the App store, however I believe it is a paid app. Check over to the right of the thread under More Like This and see if you can locate that.

Am I missing something with the 3560X Visio Stencil?

Just updating my latest network diagrams and the 3560X stencil looks like it's half finished.
Compared to the old 3560 stencil I think it looks terrible.
After seeing it for the first time I thought I would be able to add in the C3KX-NM 1G and 10G Modules but I can't find them anywhere, the 48 gig ports look as though you should be able to drop something in them as well.
Has anyone else had similar problems?

I already have multiple devices and by far I like my iPad the most over laptops and the iPad. That including checking out my friends MacBook Air.
The difference for me is the touch interface on the screen itself for things that do not require a lot of typing. For me, the iPad is more "magical" than anything else I've used.
Again, I do appreciate your answers but you don't know my situation. Not everything is as it is perceived without knowing me and what I have to go through.

OK, I figured out from the various postings on here and way too many hours overnight how to pretty much make the Yoga do what it is supposed to do. I've written up a step by step at this link that may help some of you with your problems as well

Missing something on how NULL's work with this sql... help....

I'm missing something here and - I'm hoping someone can help me out...
IF I have a SQL statement:
Select Distinct columna
From table1
where columnb = value1
and columna NOT IN ('a','b','c');
Where Value1 is on two rows.... and - columna has a NOT NULL value on one row and - null on the other row - I get a single row returned with the distinct single value from the table (excluding the NULL row).
However - if I write it like this - I start getting a NULL and the value (two rows returned)... and - I'm not sure why (though I'm certain I should be but - it's eluding me)....
Select Distinct columna

and columna NOT IN (select code_value
from code_table
where code_value = columna);
In the second query - there are no nulls in that code_table - it simply holds all the values that are to be excluded from the query.
I'm not sure why the top one returns a single row and the bottom returns the row with the NULL and the other with the value...
Any help is appreciated.

Ok - removed the join on the subselect "where code_value = columna" and - it no longer returns null.

Is your Time Capsule being used for your TimeMachine back up? Or is it simply being used as an external hard drive?

Pixel Motion with time remap. Am I missing something?

I have a 720p 59.94 fps clip of an rc quad flying. Ive time remapped it and applied Pixel Motion but the little quad chops very badly while the background is very smooth during the slowest part of the time remap.
As a control measure, I did the same clip with only frame blending, no Pixel Motion, and the quad is smooth, however the whole scene isnt as clean as would be with Pixel Motion.
Am I missing something?
Heres the two clips; the 1st one is frame blending, the second is frame blending/Pixel Motion. Why does the subject(quad) skip badly?

It's inherent in how the two two methods work differently - one favors large, contiguous areas, the other works better with only tiny motion differences. The problem is that when using pixel motion to the algorithm your copter doesn't move much. No motion, nothing to blend. You can always try the Timewarp effect and tweak its parameters, but short of masking the copter and combining the two you won't get a perfect result, either, most likely.

Are you using a stereo receiver or surround sound system for the audio by chance. What you are describing sounds like a receiver that is not setup correctly, or does not have the speakers connected to it correctly to support Dolby surround, 5.1 or 7.1. Which is why it is only happening on some content. It would only be on the ones that are encoded to support Dolby audio.
