Am I supposed to be able to rent a movie directly from my AppleTV?

...I can't seem to do that, either.

I am having the same problem. I am a long time Apple TV user and have loads of movies I have purchased, but I'm interested in renting some. I noticed that some users have downloaded Apple TV Version 2.0, but with problems. I'm hesitant to do the same. Or, should I just stick with purchasing and avoid problems...

I rented a movie directly from Apple TV. I finished downloading successfully, however, I didn't start watching it right away. Now, a day after, I want to watch it, but ATV tells me I have to start the downloading process all over again. WHY? I thought after sucessfully downloading the movie to ATV, it would be available for 30 days in my ATV, without having to download again. To my surprise, it tells me I have to download all over again. It took me 3 hours to download the movie, now I have to repeat the process? Can someone tell me why? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV will delete content if it is used to plat something else or is turned off. It only has a limited amount of volatile memory.
If you want to download something for watching at a later time, it would be best doing it from iTunes on your mac/PC and streaming it to the Apple TV when you are ready to watch it.

  • My apple tv main menu no longer displays the "movies" section, just internet, computers, and settings. Does anyone know why or how to get it back up? Recently rented a movie directly through apple tv but can't see the movies section in main menu now.

My apple tv main menu no longer displays the "movies" section, just internet, computers, and settings. Does anyone know why or how to get it to show again? Recently rented a movie directly through apple tv but can't see the "movies" section in main menu now. WiFi and home sharing are working.

Check the location setting for the iTunes Store is correct.
You might also try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
    Restart your router.
If you are still having problems try a restore.

When I try to download a rented movie directly from ipad it never finishes downloading.  It starts and gets close and then starts over again.  HELP

  • Re adobe acrobat 9 pro - are you supposed to be able to open this exact program from "utilities" or how do you access it?

I installed this program earlier, obviously.
I would think that you would be able to open the program through utilities, but that isn't the case.  Do you just open adobe reader and then try to do things, like editing and combining documents?

Double click the Macintosh HD icon on the top right.
Open the Applications folder, and look for a folder called Adobe Acrobat Professional.
In that folder there is a file - not a folder - called Adobe Acrobat Professional.
    That is your program.
To save yourself the trouble of digging for it whenever you need it. Grab the icon and drop it on the left side of your dock. Now whenever you want to run the program just click the icon on the dock.

  • What's Supposed to Happen After I rent A Movie?

Have a new Apple TV (Christmas 2011), tested download speed of 5.6 mbs.  I browsed for a movie (Alien) entered my iTunes credentials and confirmed my cc info. amd it appeared to have been accepted.   Then nothing happened.  I'm not sure if there should be some indication it is downloading or not.  Also, once it is downloaded, will it be visible from the main Apple TV screen?  This is my first foray into movie rental, so I appreciate any advice you can give me.  BTW, internet connectivity is OK.  I am composing this on the same internet connection I have the ATV connected to.

If you turn the Apple TV off or watch something else, the rental will be deleted from the drive on the Apple TV, it should still remain on the top shelf though.
Try going to settings > general > iTunes store > check for rentals.
If that doesn't help, try restarting.
If your download speed is correct, you should be able to start to watch your rental within a few minutes, if not almost immediately.

  • Has anyone checked out the latest iTunes update where you are supposed to be able to view your wish list from your music library?

I updated my iMac yesterday to check out this new feature, but I can't seem to figure out how it works. Can anyone tell me how to view my wishlist from my music library. I restarted my computer, but that didn't work either. I'm obviously missing something. Otherwise, accessing my wishlist just works like it always did. I would appreciate some input on this.

Here are several screenshots from my iTunes Library...

  • Why don't iTunes rented HD movies stream from ipad to apple tv?

I have an apple tv and have an airport extreme wifi.  I have no problem streaming netflix or movies I rent on apple tv.  The issue I have is a movie rented on an ipad.  I downloaded it in the afternoon and can play it in the ipad but the moment I try to use airplay to show it on my tv screen thru ATV, the screen shows a status bar and it seems to be downloading something.  I though I could stream this without delay.

If you allow it to take place, you'll see it build the buffer in the timeline itself.
(YouTube movies are nowhere near the 4-5 Mbps of HD rentals/purchases)
There will also presumably be an authorisation requirement with protected content.

  • Not able to download a movie trailer from Apple Website ...!!!!

Thank in Advance for your help...

You do have QuickTime 7 installed, correct? Have you checked the System recommendations here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/recommendations.html
It would also help if you would click "My Settings" on th right side of this page & fill in your computer model & other pertinent information.
P.S. Just a thought can you view QuickTime trailers that are not HD? Also, you check if the QuickTime plug-in is installed by clicking on Help->Installed Plug-Ins.

  • HT1390 I rented a movie to my computer; it no longer plays (hasn't been 24 hours)

I rented a movie to my Macbook Air, the device shouldn't matter, and started watching it last night and a couple minutes today. Now when I get back to the movie it will not play. I have not exceeded the 24 hour period to watch the movie and there are no other devices connected to rental. I'm able to rent the movie again but don't feel like I should since I have nearly 6 hours before I've hit my 24 hour limit.

  • HT2729 If i purchase or rent a movie and downloaded it into my iPad, do i need a wifi to watch it?

If i purchase or rent a movie and downloaded it into my iPad, do i need a wifi to watch it?

You definitely do not need WiFi to watch a purchased movie once it has been downloaded to your iPad. I have several movies that I purchased for watching on flights and every one of them worked fine without WiFi.
You should also be able to rent a movie and watch it without WiFi as long as the movie has fully downloaded properly. I have read about users having mixed results with this and that is why I said that you should be able to do it.

  • Want to rent a movie 2play on my ipad while on an airplane

want to rent a movie 2play on my ipad while on an airplane

    Hello PRD4U
You should be able to rent directly from the iTunes Store on your iPad and then rent the movie directly. You can do this from iTunes on your computer and sync the movie over to your iPad. Once there you can play it without being connected to the internet while on the airplane or in Airplane mode.

  • If I rent a movie via iTUNES on Mac, how can I view the movie on 2nd Gen Apple TV?, If I rent a movie via iTUNES on Mac, how can I view the movie on 2nd Gen Apple TV?

After several attempts of renting a movie directly on Apple TV (kept getting error for password that was entered correctly), decided to rent directly on the computer and watch via Apple TV.  I go to Apple TV and my library is available (home sharing on) but don't see the rental anywhere.  Do I need to move it on my computer from rentals to somewhere else?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Movies rented on the computer need to be fully downloaded before they will show up on the Apple TV.

  • HT4743 when I rent a movie on my computer from itunes store why can I not find it on my Apple tv for playback?

When I rent a movie from itunes library on my desktop it is not showing up under rented on my Apple tv? This has not happened before?. Can I rent or buy directly from Apple TV? I hope someone can answer this silly question.
    Carol

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can purchase or rent it direct from the Apple TV or from the computer. If you rent/purchase from the computer, it must fully download to the computer before it will show up under computers > rentals on the TV.

    I use itunes 9.2.1.4

You're original post is a tad confusing.  If you have your ATV2 installed correctly, you don't need iTunes to watch movies on your TV.
If instead, you rented a movie on a computer, I'm not sure if you can even "see" it with ATV2 up and running.  On ATV1, I think you have to "transfer" rented movies to the ATV1 before viewing.
Short version.  If you want to watch a movie via ATV, it's best to rent the movie directly to the ATV device.
