Am running out room on time capsule, options .... 2nd hardrive ?

Hi
Am running out room on 3 terabyte time capsule, options .... 2nd hardrive ?
I have my itunes running via the time capsule, use as a hardrive and the time capsule functionality, need more space, options ?
thank you

So you're using the Time Capsule for both Time Machine backups and music storage? This is really not a good idea. The best practice is to use the HDD used for backups exclusively for backups and nothing else. I suggest you purchase an additional HDD and move either the music or your backups to that HDD.

You can easily add one of more USB HDDs to the TC to add additional capacity. What you won't be able to do is expand the existing space for Time Machine backups as each external drive would be treated individually for backups.

  • Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses

Any tricks to swapping out my old time capsule with a new airport extreme I am also using airport expresses?  The hard drive on the TC quit working.

I do plan on using an external USB HDD for time machine backups.  I have both 802.11g and 802.11n used for playing music via stereos.
I would recommend against it. Apple does not support Time Machine backups to AirPort Disks (USB HDD attached to the AirPort Extreme). Although folks have done so, we get a number of them here asking for help with their corrupted backups. If your backups are critical to you, please use another means (like connecting the USB HDD directly to your Mac) to do so.

  • Suggestion? Running out of rearms (time) building large master Win7 image - Should I use KMS until capture?

I am building a Window 7 Ent master image containing 200+ engineering applications which will be deployed to 800+ systems. My problem is, I'm close to running out of activations and am now down to one rearm remaining. I have the option of using our
    KMS server.
Question: Is it allowed that I point my non-domain member master Windows 7 image at our KMS server to activate the OS while I continue to install software up until the point I'm ready to shut down and capture my master image?
If perform the above-mentioned procedure do I leave the master image pointing at our KMS server during the capture process? Or, do I remove the settings from the registry? After the client is joined to the domain, a GPO points all clients to our KMS server
    anyway.
Or does it not matter that I continue building my master build image, with one rearm left, leaving it prompt me that my Windows 7 Ent. copy "may be counterfeit".
Thanks for your time in advance!

    Hi,
Yes, you can point a non-domain member master Windows 7 image at your KMS server to activate the OS, it should be done by Manually Specifying a KMS Host with a command:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff793406.aspx
After the Windows 7 image is activated by the KMS, you can run this command with administrator permission to check the rearm time:  Slmgr.vbs /dlv
Details about deploying KMS clients can also be found at :

  • Ripped HD out of dead Time Capsule... will it work?

Hi, like many other users here my Time Capsule power supply failed and now it's dead as disco. The repair quote seemed to be almost the price of the new one, and presumably the same design flaw will kill it again. So I took an executive decision to rip its hard drive out, Aztec style, and have now got it housed in a USB drive caddy. It mounts OK, and I've defined it as the TC disk.
But I can't see my old backups in Time Machine. Is that because it's local rather than NAS? Do I have to put it in an NAS caddy to see the old files, or is there a way to access them?

Is that because it's local rather than NAS?
    Probably.

  • Can't run disk utility on Time Capsule

I hope someone can help. First, my time machine stoppped backing up to my time capsule about a month ago. After some research it appeared that the thing to do was use disk utility to repair it. I got a message "Disk Utility stopped repairing "Time Machine Backups" can't unmount disk. I tried to run Verify permissions and got this message "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.apps/Contents/MacOS/ARDA gent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Huh? Can anyone help me get back on track? Sally

You an also ignore the SUID warnings per Apple document.

  • Can i run multiple monitors from time capsule?

Is it possible to run multiple monitors from a single time capsule in our small office (3 users)?

My understanding is that you have the ability to. However, you might end up with a slow server.

  • Running a network with Time Capsule and Netgear router - is it possible?

We have an iMac and a Toshiba laptop. I was wondering if it was possible to have a wireless network with a Time Capsule and our Netgear DG834G router. We live in a solid brick house and the Netgear router is upstairs and we find we get very little, if any reception from downstairs. We have just purchased the Time Capsule and we were hoping to move the Netgear downstairs and have the Time Capsule upstairs to get reception all over the house. Is running a network like this possible, and if it is, how do we do it. Both the iMac and the laptop need to be able to connect. Thanks in advance.

    g'day
you could try a pair of those http://www.amazon.co.uk/Devolo-MicroLink-dLAN-Highspeed-Starter/dp/B000A7IE7Y

  • Can you run/save applications off Time Capsule?

To avoid waste of space on the new Airs, could one use a Time capsule
for all its saving needs, applications, music, videos

Software applications should be (and usually must be) installed on either a local hard drive or directly-connected external hard drive of your Mac.
On the other hand data like iTunes music, videos, pictures, and documents are all things that certainly could be stored on the Time Capsule. How much you want to store on Time Capsule vs your laptop probably depends on how much time you spend "on the road" with your laptop - and if your laptop rarely leaves your home, then there likely isn't much need to keep most of your data on it.

Where did you purchase the software from? Did it come in a box?
The Serial number is on the reverse of the disc case and not on the outside of the box. See http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/find-serial-number.html

  • Using Time Capsule with 2nd wireless router

    Hi,
I have been trying to extend my time capsule and have had limited luck.
I have my time capsule in my office which is a separate building behind my house. The cable internet service runs to this location. I purchased an airport express and put that in the house so we would have wireless access in the house. I have tried every location available in the house and it is still really slow. (I get a transmit rate of 270 in the office. In the house it ranges from 7 to 20).
So, I was thinking maybe I could run a 30ft or so ethernet cable from the time capsule to another wireless n router in the house. So when out in the office I would connect to the TC and in the house to the Linksys (or whatever I buy). My question: would this even work? Can I have 2 wireless routers and would the Linksys work if it was connected via ethernet to the timecapsule vs. being connected directly to the cable modem?
Alternatively, can you connect 2 cable modems to one incoming cable line if I could find another cable modem somewhere?

    Sure, happy to help.
Temporarily, move the Express close to your computer and connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express for the configuration.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Select your AirPort Express and click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the row of icons
Wireless Mode...set to Create a wireless network
Wireless Network Name...Exact same name as your Time Capsule network
Radio Mode....802.11n (802.11b/g compatible) would be a good choice
    Wireless Channel...Automatic
Wireless Security....Exact same setting as your Time Capsule network
Wireless Password....Exact same setting as your Time Capsule network
    Wireless
    Click the Internet icon
Look for the setting for Connection Sharing at the bottom of the page and set this to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Click Update at the lower right of the window and close AirPort Utility immediately and disconnect the ethernet cable as soon as you see the message that your settings have been stored.
You can now move the Express to the location you need and connect the ethernet cable and power it up.

  • Can I move Time Capsule to 2nd home and retain settings?

I have a new AirPort Time Capsule that is working great for wifi and backing up.  We are in the process of moving to our 2nd home for the season and not sure if I need to take any special steps to keep Airport up and running as is.  Same computer will be used (late 2013 MacBook Pro with Retna Display).  Different modem and carrier at second home.  Anything I need to do?

You can export your configuration from present setup in the airport utility and retain that..
As Bob says most people need to reset the TC for each setup.. It simply remembers too much and that stops it working properly.. as long as you record your names and passwords to the clients nothing will have changed but the setup on the TC does.. save this configuration as well.. mark the files carefully so you know which is which.. then each place you go you can quickly reset the TC to the location by simply importing the correct configuration.

  • Time Capsule or External Hardrive

I want to back up iPhoto and iTunes as seemlessly as possible.
Question is should I get Time capsule or is their a cheaper alternative (ie external hardrive).
Most important thing I want to back up is all the photos but also all the keywords and faces tagged that I did.  Was not sure if that was saved though external hardrive or just through capsule.
    Thanks!!

    Basic Backup
Get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.
Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined.  It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.)  You can purchase hard drives separately.  This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice.  Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu.  You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
    Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available.  You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports.  I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.)  You can find enclosures at places such as;
    Cool Drives
    OWC
    WiebeTech
    Firewire Direct
    California Drives
    NewEgg
All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover.  Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

  • Time capsule and external hardrive

can I attach an external hard drive to time capsule to expand storage? If so, are there any downsides?

I am having the same problem. I have two drives plugged into the USP port using a USB2.0 hub. Everything works fine for about a day. Then just the internet access works but none of the drives are accessible, not even the internal drive in the TC.
    Symptoms:
    • Internet access works
    • Airport utility can find the TC but cannot access the settings.
    • The desktop cannot access the Time Capsule.
    To recover:
    • Turn off the external drives and unplug the TC.
    • Plug in the TC and wait for a green light.
    • Turn on the external drives.
    • Repeat every day or so.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
