AM zip installer and Portal package installer

Hello,
I have installed Sun Application Server 8.2 ( using JES update 1). Now I need to install AM and Portal to a cluster to enable HA. My question is could I use AM zip installer for the installation but use the JES (package) installer for Portal. These are on Solaris 10 boxes.
Thank you.
Regards,
Slak

I'm not sure but I think you need at least Application Server 9.1 for Portal Server 7.2 (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-2053/gedjt?l=en&a=view&q=portal+server+7.2+requirements). In my setup I had to use Application Server 9.1 but I don't rembmber the exact reason.

  • Issue regarding Thin Installer and driver packages

    Hello everybody,
I have recently started to work for a new company and have been tasked with creating a new Windows deployment solution.
My company are using Lenovo desktop and laptop and my installation image use Thin Installer to deploy drivers to our workstations during Windows deployment.
I have been having some difficulties getting everything to work and I want to write about it here to hopefully help someone in the same situation as me and call out for better quality control at Lenovo.
Here are the command line I call to start Thin Installer from the local computer:
START /WAIT thininstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -repository \\wds\lenovo -noicon -showprogress -IncludeRebootPackages 1,3,4  -noreboot
Hers the issues I have expirienced:
    1. Sometimes packages downloaded with Update Retriever will be set to "Reboot type: Forces a reboot" as default. This causes the Thin Installer to reboot reguardless of the -noreboot switch.
Its possible to change reboot type "Requires a reboot" in Update Retriever and than the updates installs fine.
This causes problem with scripted installs where you cannot have the system reboot "out of order".
Updates should never be default "forces a reboot".
    2. On my Thinkcenter e93z (10B8) the Intel Displaydriver (v 9.18.10.3220) wont install because the PnPID is not listed in the XML file. (my PnPID is VEN_8086&DEV_041E&SUBSYS_309C17AA (309D17AA is listed tho)). Manualy editing the XML files to include my PnPID solves the problem.
Lenovo should really have better qualitycontrol here.
    3. On a t440s machine i have the Synaptics UltraNav Driver (v. 17.0.12.60) wont install automatically with Thin Installer.
This is because the machine i installed failed the "BIOS test" in the XML file of the update package. I manually edited the XML file and replaced the "BIOS TEST" with one from another update that worked on that system and now everything installs automatically and works fine.
Its possible that Lenovo has detected some kind of problem with my BIOS version and the Synaptics driver but everything seems to work fine for me.
I hope this post will help someone in the future
EDIT: Other people have called out some problems with the information provied in this post. You should read the whole thread before making any changes to your systems.
    Kind Regards,
    2bi

    2bi,
Thanks for posting your findings.  I will investigate and escalate the missing PnP id issue for the Display Driver issue.  We absolutely need to avoid these kinds of escapes.
For you ThinInstaller command line I would recommend not using the -showprogress parameter if you are using in a scripted deployment scenario with something like MDT and/or SCCM.  These solutions typically will not allow TI to interact with the desktop during deployment which is what -showprogress will cause.
Also, you are telling TI to include packages that will automatically reboot your system (type 1), requires a reboot which can be delayed (type 3), will shutdown the machine automatically (type 4).  We have very few type 4 packages anymore; however we definitely have type 1 and type 3.  As sclexman mentioned, the -noreboot will only apply to the type 3 packages which leave the execution of the reboot up to TI.  So -noreboot tells TI that even if it installs updates of type 3, it should not reboot when finished.
Changing the Reboot Type value in Update Retriever only changes how TI sees the package and does not alter how the package itself executes.  So if a package is designed to always automatically reboot, changing it to type 3 in UR will have no affect.  We have recently had a display driver released by Intel that will automatically reboot if the driver installer detects that it is upgrading an older version of the driver.  In a clean deployment scenario, the automatic reboot will not happen so in this case it is safe to change the type to type 3.
This leads to another point.  All of our content that is available through Update Retriever is also intended for consumption by System Update which is the utility aimed at individual consumers to help them keep their drivers up to date.  Therefore this becomes our lowest common denominator that we have to support.  This leads to situations that may not be ideal for the deployment scenario.  If we had an army of resources we might be able to manage all of our content for both consumers and enterprise deployments; in effect doubling our efforts.  Unfortunately this is not the case and we are trying to do the best we can.
Regarding the UltraNav update for T440s, I see that the XML has a _BIOS section under the Dependencies.  However it is defined such that any BIOS level will work because the first level listed is a wildcard asterisk (*).  This BIOS section is actually included for a completely different solution which also uses the XML.  It is not intended to control the targeting of the update for System Update or Thin Installer.  Perhaps there was a mistake made initially and the XML was released without the * and has since been fixed.

  • Muse crashing on two Win 7 64 bit PC's, tried uninstalling all copies and putting back in with standalone installer and Creative Cloud installer

Can any one help me get Muse working on both my PC's, always worked fine until 2014 version. Problem happens after opening a past website and trying to delete pages which show in navigation but should be in sub menu.

    Hi Julie,
May I know the exact error that you get when Muse crashes? Is it happening when you create a new site as well?

  • Enhancement Package Installation option missing in MOPZ

    Hello gurus,
We´re faccing with a problem with maintenance optimizer procedure.
I have an ECC 6.0 system installed with SPS16 and now we need to upgrade it to Eph4.
When I go to Solution Manager 7.0 Ehp1 (SPS22) to transaction mopz and create a new transaction, in step 2 "Select Files" on "Calculate download files automatically" window, normally two options appear "Maintenance" and "Enhancement Package Installation", but only shows "Maintenance" option. So, for our goal we need the option "Enhancement Package Installation"!
I already read the snotes 1122966 and 1139493 I take in count the prerequisites for enhancement package option in SMSY.
Another question, this problem may be related to any matter of contract, restrictions on our own contract with SAP?...
Can you help us to solve this problem?
    Best regards,
    João Dimas - Portugal

Hello frmshyam and all of others,
We already know whats happen... we contacted SAP people and they inform us that is a kind of limitation of the contract agreed by our company and SAP!
Inclusively we can check that when we try to download some ERP system DVD media directly from marketplace, we don´t see anything, we only see the media DVD´s of solution manager system.
    Thanks anyway for your help.
    Best regards,
    João Dimas - Portugal

  • Enhancement Package Installation option missing

    Hi,
I've installed the latest suport package stack in a SAP ERP 6.0 system, and now I need to upgrade it to Eph4.
When I go to mopz and create a new transaction, in step 2 "Select Files" on "Calculate download files automatically" window, normally two options appear "Maintenace" and " Enhancement Package Installation", but now None appear!!!
I've confirmed that product version is correct, ERP 6.0 not ECC 6.0. I've also installed the latest ST (SAPKITL429).
    Can you help please

My SSM User is associated with the client S-user in AISUSER. And that S-user has full athorization in the marketplace, is the Super Admin. I Have an RFC for each client, because my SSM is for VARs, so is configured in an multiclient way.
I can download, files using mopz, but only manually, because no option appear in the automatic window.
I think is something with the latest SPs, but I've aplient all recent notes, after SP19 and nothing.. oss message is already open, I'll give feedback.
    Thanks anyway.

    Jay,
We have now installed the Intermedia text option, but still get errors on the installation. (Portal version 3.0.8.9.8 NT).
After installation, we still get errors. These are generally "Synonym already exists" errors, even though we are starting with a blank database each time. The exact errors are.
"cannot create synonym wwctx_api_vpd for portal30_sso.wwctx_api_vpd name already used by an existing object"
"synonym owa_vpd_ctx, name already used by existing object"
We suspect these errors are causing the error message wwc-00000 to appear when we attempt to access the Login Server Administration page and create users.
    Any ideas?

  • FIM Service and Portal Installation Ends Prematurely

    Hello All,
I'm in the process of setting up a new production FIM 2010 R2 server. I have already installed the FIM synchronization service and I was able to install this successfully.
I have already installed SharePoint services (WSS 3.0) and configured it for FIM. But when I try to install the FIM Service and Portal.
I keep getting and error that says " FIM Service and Portal Installation Ends Prematurely" with no other details. If anybody has any advice please let me know.
I have already installed everything on a stand alone box in a dev environment and it all works correctly however I am unable to now install in a production environment

Cameron is right - you should consider FIMService account nearly as normal AD account for user*
An installer account should be admin on the box, where you are installing FIMService and he should be sysadmin on SQL during installation of FIMService. An installer account should be other than FIMService account itself.
    *FIMService account:
    Lock down the Service Account
The service account should not be used by any other services or users. The account must not be used to logon interactively and requires no access to any additional resources beyond those granted during setup. The service account is used to provide the security
context for the MIIS service as it accesses resources on the MIIS server and the associated database. It also provides the security context for the execution of any rules extensions.
Lock down the service account to ensure no malicious user is able to sign in using its credentials and gain access to MIIS data. Configure Group Policies to lock down the account and restrict access to this account. Since the MIIS service only needs the account
to run as a service, restrict the account as follows:
Deny logon as a batch job.
    Deny logon locally.
    Deny logon through Terminal Services.
Deny access to this computer from the network.

  • 9iAS installation problems w/ db cache and Portal

I am still trying for a succesful installation of the 9ias software. I have followed all of the suggestions that have been posted and I am now getting TNS cannot resolve service name during the database cache part of the install. I checked services and it seems that this install didn't set up a TNSListener service for the 9iSuites home? I set the oracle_sid = icache as it instructs in the appendix, set the o7_dictionary_accessibility = true, and renamed the spfile to a .txt file so Oracle wouldn't find it. Subsequent to the database cache errors, the Portal install can't find the database either. I'm frustrated because I had the server up and running succesfully with an 8.1.7 db and I'm trying to switch to 9iDB. Any help would be greatly appreciated! My boss is getting a little impatient.
    Thanks.

    Mark,
I was succesful on my 4th try. This is what I did differently and I'm not sure what triggered success.(a preface: database cache was not succesful but portal was). After install of db I followed these suggestions before install of 9ias(plus others offered by Tao Fan in a previous post:
    in the init.ora file:
    set o7_dictionary_accessibility=true(this is an o, not 0)
    comment out the 'dispatchers' line.
rename the spfile in the <oracleHome>\database directory(i changed mine to xspfile.txt). Make sure you restart the db after any changes to the init.ora file. Set all oracle services to manual and disable the http server. Stop all services.
Start your install. Mine hung at 100% complete with a command window open. Before I closed the command window I started the database service but not the listener. The install proceeded to fail during the db cache and portal install. I exited out of the install, started the dbTNSlistener, and any iSuitesagent services(not sure if this helped but I'm happy now!)Then, I restarted the machine. Then start/programs/iSuites/portalConfigAssistant and it worked.
If none of this makes sense I can email you the documentation I kept while installing.

  • General Apex single standalone installation and packaging question

    Hello,
Our goal is to create an light weight packaged application and provide to any customers who wants to install and use the tool.
Can an application with database be built on Apex and created as packaged installable, instead of hosting in any Application , middle and database server. A kind of quick, cost effective and light weight installation? If yes, can you point me to the link or share some examples.
    Thanks,

Thanks,If I understood correctly, you want to build some thing like desktop applications that run on OS directly.
If that's the case, then I don't think it's possible! APEX run on top of Oracle DB. So users have to first install Oracle DB & then they haveto configure APEX, next they have to use APEX workspace to install your packaged application. I can't think all these setps can be done by non-technical user.
