Amazon Q&A : E2500 - Setup as access point

Does this work as a wireless access point?

Yes, it does. This is a router with built in wireless access point. It is also possible to use the router as plain access point only.

    Hi Nassem,
    It looks like you ended up with a Lightweight AP (LAP Part#) instead of an IOS AP. This can be fixed;
Reverting the Access Point Back to Autonomous Mode
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps430/prod_technical_reference09186a00804fc3dc.html#wp161272
You can convert an access point from lightweight mode back to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS Release that supports autonomous mode (Cisco IOS release 12.3(7)JA or earlier). If the access point is associated to a controller, you can use the controller to load the Cisco IOS release. If the access point is not associated to a controller, you can load the Cisco IOS release using TFTP.
Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release
Follow these steps to revert from LWAPP mode to autonomous mode by loading a Cisco IOS release using a TFTP server:
Step 1 The static IP address of the PC on which your TFTP server software runs should be between 10.0.0.2 and 10.0.0.30.
Step 2 Make sure that the PC contains the access point image file (such as c1200-k9w7-tar.122-15.JA.tar for a 1200 series access point) in the TFTP server folder and that the TFTP server is activated.
Step 3 Rename the access point image file in the TFTP server folder to c1200-k9w7-tar.default for a 1200 series access point, c1130-k9w7-tar.default for an 1130 series access point, and c1240-k9w7-tar.default for a 1240 series access point.
Step 4 Connect the PC to the access point using a Category 5 (CAT5) Ethernet cable.
Step 5 Disconnect power from the access point.
Step 6 Press and hold MODE while you reconnect power to the access point.
Step 7 Hold the MODE button until the status LED turns red (approximately 20 to 30 seconds) and then release.
Step 8 Wait until the access point reboots, as indicated by all LEDs turning green followed by the Status LED blinking green.
Step 9 After the access point reboots, reconfigure it using the GUI or the CLI.
    From this doc;

    Hope this helps!

  • How do I setup an Access Point/Repeater on FIOS

I have a MI424WR-GEN2 router/modem from Verizon.  Since Verizon installed it in the basement, my wi-fi at various other points is not the strongest. I do have cat-5 in various parts of the house. So, I'd like to add one of my old routers to the network and have it act as an access point or repeater (not sure if there is a difference between the two designations).  I'm technical enough to be dangerous and do damage but I wasn't having any luck doing this ... for one, I can't even figure out how to access it to program it since 192.168.1.1 is the verizon router.
I have three choices for a device:
    (1) Linksys WRT54GS
    (2) Linksys BEFW11S4
    (3) Netgear RangeMAx DGND3300 (my preferred choice because it has B/G/N as options)
    Help please!
    Thank you!

Ok, it is working, more or less. But there seems to be a connectivity or reliability issue. For some reason, and it seems to only be on my laptop (but perhaps because the others in my house aren't on engough and haven't noticed an issue?).
I periodically lose connectivity but the network is not down.  I turn off my laptop wi-fi, wait a few seconds, and turn it back on.
I suspect this is something to do with competing protocols ... I don't know, and Verizon didn't confirm, if their router support b/g AND n.  The netgear supports b/g/n.  Also, the Netgear is dual band. Right now, the netgear, as an access point, has both 2.4Ghz (11g) and 5Ghz (11n) SSIDs set to the same name.  Should they be different? In which case, do we need an additional wi-fi to recognize? It doesn't appear as if I can disable one of them.
For the time being, the netgear access point is right next to the laptop. COuld the proximity cause a problem? I've never had that issue before but trying to identify anything!
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks!

  • Setting up wireless Cisco Access Points independently and network layout

    Hello,
I am technician in a school. I have been asked to upgrade wireless system in school. Currently I am using VDSL2 30Mbps line. I am using E4200 Router, which is providing internet services. The school has 3 floors. On one floor I have this router which is further attached with 16 port gigabit unmanageable switch. The same router is providing wireless service on the same floor using Class C ip address. From the switch I have extended a cable and took it on to another (second floor), where I have got one more gigabit switch. From that switch I have connected one router using different subnet and further i have attached two access points for the entire floor, which is working ok. From the same switch I have extended one more cable up to third floor where I have connected one more access point. So, 3 access points on three floors, 2 switches and two router. This is the current network layout.
Now school have decided to go over to fiber. ISP is going to put Juniper router and going to create vlan and will configure access restrictions. School will have 100Mbps unlimited up and download speed. Its because of increase in number of students. School is still waiting for the router and configuration to be done.
I have got 4 cisco 1602i access points (AIR-SAP1602I-Z-K9). These access points are POE supported. I have got one 8 port POE switch also. When I got these 4 cisco I didnt get power adapters with them. First I want to ask, is this normal. Don't they usually come with power adapter. I know they are POE, but cisco doesn't send them with power adapters.
Second I want to ask, if these access points can work independent without WLAN controller. Or do i have to have WLAN controller.
As fiber is not up yet so, for the time being I have connected these access points with POE switch using Cat5E cable and then further connected the POE switch with normal gigabit switch, which is further conneted with router at this point.
Please tell me if I am doing it correctely. I will also be needing help with the configuration.
Can anyone tell me how to setup these access points independently for current situation to provide internet access. How to set them on different channels etc......
Also want to know if there is any software that can detect access points and can help me manage these access points.
    I shall be thankful.

  • Shuting down an lightweight access point

We setup an access point at a remote location as a test.  We would now like to remotely shut it down.  Is there a way of shutting down an access point (lightweight) remotely to free up its AP license off of our controller?
    I appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks

    Hi,
1 - If you have remote access to local switch to whom your access-point (POE) is connected, just shutdown that port, by this way you can power-off the access-point.
2 - As far as AP license off is concern
If you have licensed DTLS image on your controller then AP license off of controller can be achieve by disabling the DTLS of the specific AP by controller.
you can enable or disable DTLS data encryption for a specific access point or for all access points using the config ap link-encryption {enable | disable} {Cisco_AP | all} command

  • What is the WPS button on my access point?  I am trying to setup wirelessly with a canon MX892 printer

Printer setup instructions say to press the WPS  button on the access point (my 4th gen Time Capsule).  Does that mean hit reset and will I have to setup every other device again by doing that?

No, do not hit reset .. it is not a WPS button.
Apple products do not use WPS, so no WPS button is needed. And they have no need to implement one.. nothing exists outside the Apple bubble.. didn't you know that??
Read the forum expert Tesserax instructions for using WPS. https://discussions.apple.com/message/16034147#16034147
But it is better to plug in your printer to a mac by usb and use the disk provided to do a full manual setup of wireless.. WPS is simply the easy way.

  • Can WRT54G be setup as a Wireless Access Point?

Does anyone know how to setup a router (WRT54G) to connect to other routers using a wireless connection and function as either a wireless access point or another router using the main router for it's internet and network connection?

you cannot get  the WRT to connect wireless to any device as it is an access point.
However this same thing will work wired. All you need to do is change the LAN ip of the WRT to 192.168.1.50 from 192.168.1.1 and disable the DHCP on the WRT.
Connect both devices LAN to LAN , do not use the internet port of the WRT.

  • Setup WRT54GX as access point

I would like to setuo my WRT54GX as an access point connecter to a WRT160N which will be the Router. What changes to I need to make in the WRT54GX setup to get this done?
    thanks Ray

If you want to use both the Routers you have to connect them with cables...You can't communicate them wireless or like an access point...

  • Setup RV220W as Access Point

    Hi,
May i know that can a CISCO RV220W setup as a Access Point in company network?
We already have a router for IP management.
is it possible to setup as Acces point?
Also can we separate the guest and internal user for using wireless by difference SSID and VLAN.
It seem it cannot setup if i need to setup limited network access right by SSID and VLAN.
    Thank you
    Rgds,
    Sun

    Thank you for your reply.
For setup as AP, i understand your suggestion.
Also i understand i can setup a VLAN assign to an SSID.
Under this SSID, internal user can access our network.
I can setup Lan Port (1) and Lan Port (2) in VLAN1, assign one SSID.
i plug my default gateway(existing router) into Lan Port (1), so my internal user can access network resource by this SSID
For guest SSID, we don't have other router.
If i setup Lan Port (3) and Lan Port (4) in VLAN2, assign one new SSID.
Where i can enable "inter-VLAN" with protection of local network?
Can i setup the protection of local network with Guest SSID by RV220W?
    Do i need additional equipment?
    Rgds,

  • Best way to setup WRT300N as an Access Point

I have upgraded my wireless network to 802.11n by replacing my 802.11g AP and NICs in the kids computers with Linksys gear. My old wireless router was configured as an Access Point (no gateway functions). What's the best way to set the WRT300N like that?
I have connected my wired LAN to one of the switch ports (not the WAN port), disabled DHCP, Firewall, & NAT. This seems to work but I'm not sure if it's the best way to do this. Performance seems a little slow.

the way your network is setup right now is fine. However you say that you are facing speed issues. Is this on the wired or wireless ?
Have you checked what firmware version your currently have on the router.Upgrade if necessary.

  • E2500 as an additional access point will not connect

    Hello,
I have AT&T Uverse which provides Internet for my home.  The wireless capability of this router is pretty bad, I don't get good/reliable wireless reception upstairs in my office.  The solution was to buy a Cisco E2500 and add it as an access point upstairs.
I have the E2500 LAN port connected to the LAN port of my uverse router downstairs.  DHCP is turned off on the E2500.  I have my office PC wired into the E2500.  The home PC works fine, its getting DHCP from the uverse router downstairs and connects and good speeds.  The problem comes with my wireless devices trying to connect to the E2500.
I should mention that yesterday when i bought this, all worked fine.  This morning when I came into my office none of the wireless devices would connect to the E2500 at all.   But as soon as I remove the cable that connects the E2500 to the uverse router downstairs they will connect via wireless but of course not get an IP address since that is disabled.  No idea what is going on here.
I have factory reset the E2500 and uverse router several times and am getting no where.   Any ideas what could be causing the wireless devices to not connect at all?

I think you are having problems because you didn't give the E2500 an appropriate static IP address outside of your Uverse gateway's DHCP range.
A better option would be to reset the E2500 to factory defaults and then follow these bridge mode intructions:
    http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/GetArticle.aspx?docid=28cee6a2fb0d4176a2210942d1d5836c_Setting_up_the_...
You should give the E2500 seperate (different names) SSID's and make sure your wireless channels are different on AT&T gateway and E2500.  Use 1, 6, or 11
The best option, however, would be to reset the E2500 to factory defaults and use the IP passthrough feature on your AT&T gateway.  If you use the IP passthrough feature on the  AT&T gateway, you would use internet connection type DHCP on the E2500 and it would be functioning as a NAT router.  The IP passthrough feature on you AT&T gateway allows your E2500 to receive a public IP address and you will be able to avoid the AT&T gateway's NAT.  So you will just be using the E2500's NAT.  You will need to change the MTU to manual and you can ask AT&T what the appropriate mtu is for Uverse.

  • Having Issues with E1000 as an Access Point setup - Please Help

Quick background - Using an E2000 as my main router for a DSL connection (using an ISP provided Zyxel 660HW modem with wireless disabled if that matters). I have an E1000 that I want to setup as a LAN to LAN connection to the E2000 at the far end of the house and two floors down to extend my network.
I am pretty network saavy and thought this would be a snap. But I am running into trouble and hoping someone can assist.
Here are the steps I took:
    1. I ran a CAT 5 connection down to the basement where the E1000 is to be setup.
    2. I hard reset the E1000 to factory defaults
    3. I connected my notebook to the E1000 via a LAN port. At this stage the E1000 is NOT on the network
    4. I configured the E1000 with an IP of 192.168.1.2 - my main router (E2000) is set to 192.168.1.1 and the IP ranges start at .100 so this should present no conflicts
    5. I disabled DHCP
    6. I disabled NAT
    7. I saved settings and rebooted router
    8. I removed connection to notebook and plugged in the CAT 5 run from the E2000 - LAN port 1 on both (no WAN/Internet port used)
At this stage I expected the E1000 to act as an Access Point but it is not functioning properly. The first thing I notice is that the E1000 that should now be the AP is broadcasting the router name (something like Cisco 54653) even though this is not a broadcast SSID but only the router name. That is odd, I believe.
I have tried rebooting both the E2000 and E1000 along with the modem, no luck. I have tried different IPs for the E1000 just in case but again no luck, the wireless is not extended.
Any advice or guidance? Am I doing something wrong?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It sounds like you have configured the E1000 properly, but you didn't describe how you have configured the Zyxel and E2000.
    Do you have A or B ?
    A.  Zyxel set to full bridge mode.  Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port and configure E2000 for PPPoE internet connection type (and DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled). Change MTU to manual on E2000 and enter 1492.  And then connect your E1000 as you described.  Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.
    B. Zyxel is configured as modem/router (DHCP server enabled and NAT enabled).  Then connect Zyxel to E2000's internet port.  E2000 is configured as router (DHCP server is enabled and NAT is enabled) and local IP address is 192.168.2.1.  Internet connection type on E2000 would be AutoconfigDHCP.  E1000 is configured as you described except local ip address is 192.168.2.2.  Internet connection type on E1000 is AutoconfigDHCP.

  • WAP2000 Wireless-G Access Point (Setup Help)

    Hi,
We have a wireless-g access point typically (and previously, in this case) used for a small business. We were given the device for free and wanted to reset the device to use as our wireless router at home. First and foremost, can a wireless access point double as a home wireless router? I was told that only one computer/laptop at a time can connect to a wireless access point, unlike a wireless router which allows multiple devices to connect to a wireless home network at a time? Is this true?
Second, because the device is not new, we no longer have the setup instructions. Upon resetting the device (holding down the reset button for 10 or more seconds), we were unable to access the WAP2000 online setup page for a username and password. The device is being picked up by our macbooks and shows up in the Airport as "linksys-g." However, we are unable to access the setup page or communicate with the access point. We have tried typing http://198.162.1.1/ in our address bar, but have had no luck.
Do you have any suggestions as to how to set up the device? Also, can this device double as a router that will allow multiple laptops and devices (i.e. sony playstation) to access and use the wireless network simultaneously.
    Thank you for your help.

    Sam,
First yes you won't to factory reset the unit. You should hold down the reset button longer than 30 seconds and no longer than 45.Once this is back to factory default, the current ip address should be 192.168.1.245 , you will need to statically assign your pc an address in 192.168.1.1 /24 range and make sure you are plugged directly into WAP2000. Now you should be able to access the AP. Default username = admin password = admin
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/csbap/wap2000/quick_start/guide/WAP2000_Quick_Start_Guide.pdf
Above is a quick start guide for reference.
    Now just configure accordingly.

    Hi,
