Amber flashing light on express after setting up WPA security on bebox

Hi,
I have an airport express hooked up to my hifi downstairs , which was working fine. MY imac was linked into an unsecured Bebox wireless broadband.
I then secured my network using the 192 website address (WPA key I think) and that now works fine for my imac and my girlfriends pc laptop.
I have however seemed to sever the link for my express after doing so.
I looked on the 192. page for somewhere to allow the device into the loop (i can see the device in the list of devices - i just can't seem to do anything with it !!).
I also hit the reset button on the express but no diff.
I would also like to create an airport base station as my link to my imac upstairs and link that to the bebox downstairs (the broadband signal is weak downstairs, as the bebox is right next to the imac - upstairs).
Any great ideas on how to resolve the two or even just to get the get the link back ?
P

an addendum to this.
i thought i had cracked at least the airtunes to my speakers component.
i ran factory default to the airport express and then went to airport set up manager and and the express was "seen" by my system - I then connected the express into my wireless system.
The light went green on the express (it still is) and i could see the remote speakers in itunes. Done !!
However, I came back to my itunes 10 minutes later and my remote speakers were missing from itunes but the express was still green.
The express is along way from the bebox modem I use (2 flights up) - could this be it ?
Any ideas ?
I would ideally like to set up a system as follows - express attached to sound system downstairs to play music and which is also an extended part of wireless network, be box in middle of house as adsl modem connection and airport extreme base station upstairs with my imac. Is it possible or is bebox not compatible with all this ?

  • Amber Flashing Light

For some time now, I think since I started streaming video files to my Apple TV, my Time Capsule flashes amber all the time. I have looked this up in the setup guide and all around the Apple website, but can't find a good reason for this. The Setup Guide tells me that it means it can't connect to the wireless network. The thing is, I have had no problems with my internet connection and I have been able to successfully use the Time Capsule to to Time Machine backups on two machines wirelessly.
Basically, the amber light it telling me something is wrong, but there doesn't seem to be anything wrong. Does anyone have any idea what it is trying to tell me or if I should just ignore it.
    Thanks in adance

From +Airport Utility's+ Help for +Solving AirPort problems > What does the flashing light mean?:+
For information about the reason the light flashes amber, open +AirPort Utility+, select your device, and then choose +Manual Setup+ from the +Base Station+ menu. Enter the password if necessary, and then click +Base Station Status+ to display information about the flashing light.

  • Airport Utility can't find Airport Express after setting up as repeater station

I wanted to extend my 2Wire-based wireless network into a specific room that never seems to be able to pick up the signal, and found the following instructions on how to do so on Apple's website:
(note: these instructions were submitted by another user in response to a question as to whether or not an Airport Express could be used as a repeater station for non-Airport Extreme-based wireless networks - linked here http://store.apple.com/us/question/answers/product/MB321LL/A?pqid=QY4CAJJC7KFTTD KYH72DKPXF4CAUA9D4J).
Yes, you can do this two ways:  If you can connect your airport express to your router via ethernet, then you will perform the following steps in the airport utility:
    1.  Select your airport express.
    2.  Select manual set up.
    3.  Under Wireless, select Participate in a WDS network
    4.  Enter your network name, radio mode, channel, and security
    5.  Under WDS, select WDS main
    6.  Check wireless clients
    7.  Add the MAC address of the router
    8.  Click update
    That's it
Now, if you connect your airport express to your router wirelessly, all the steps are the same except for step 5.  In this step, select WDS remote instead.  Everything else is the same.
I followed those instructions exactly with my Airport Express and, after restarting, the amber light is flashing on and off continuously and the Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme base station. What the heck went wrong here?

    Update:
I restarted the laptop I used to set up the AX as well as pushing the "reset" button on the AX (first time - pressed it for 1 second, Second Time - pressed and held for 15 seconds then let go). The Utility still isn't recognizing the base station.
I also upgraded the Utility's software to 5.5.3 right before I went through these steps, and now it's not recognizing the base station. ARGH.
Update #2: I plugged the AX into my laptop with an ethernet cable and the utility STILL can't detect it. This is ridiculous.
Update #3: Not 30 seconds after update #2, it FOUND the **** AX >.< I'm updating the firmware, but I still can't get it to work as a repeater station if I have to plug it into my laptop all the time JUST to get the Utility to recognize that yes, Virginia, there IS an Airport Extreme.

  • Get an amber flashing light wherever I connect

I just purchased an airport express, my home set up is a bt 2wire router...thing(?) which goes into a d-link switch this then goes out to the other computers in the house via ethernet cables, although the 2wire151 is wireless the room I want to use my macbook in is too far away from it. I wanted to use the airport express to take in the home network via ethernet and send it out wirelessly...(if that makes sense) I connected the airport express directly to the 2wire151 via the ethernet cable that leaves it and normally enters the d-link and it flashed amber I had previously tried connecting it to one of the cables that comes out of the d-link upstairs with the same result, wherever I connect the express on the network it still flashes amber!...but if I plug my macbook into the same cables it connects to the internet perfectly!
    any help would be great

This procedure shouldn't be necessary with a new out-of-the-box Airport Express, but try following the hard reset procedure described here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
If after connecting the Airport Express to your network it still flashes amber, I would suggest you return it for a replacement. The troubleshooting steps you have taken so far certainly convince me that your own network and the cable you are using is not at fault.

  • Cannot connect to AirPort Express after setting it up in AirPort Utility

I have two PCs: one has a Linksys WMP54G wireless card to connect to my AirPort Express which is connected to a wired Linksys ethernet router; the other has an ethernet card which is also connected to the Linksys router. My cable modem is plugged into the router in order to provide internet access to both PCs. I came home from work yesterday to discover that my wireless PC could not connect to my AX. I have had the AX for over a year and it has pretty much worked fine up until yesterday. And it has worked fine for the past couple months connecting to the cable modem via the Linksys router. Connecting to the internet on my wired PC is no problem at all.
First, I tried unplugging the cable modem and the AX, but no luck. After reading these discussions, I tried doing a hard reset on the AX and going through the AirPort Utility setup, but still no luck. I tried this several times, trying to configure it using both WEP and WPA. I think I originally had it set up as WEP, but when I reinstalled Windows at one point, I think I configured it as WPA (and it worked fine). I am not sure if this may be part of the problem When I reset the AX, it will eventually show up on the Windows Wireless Network list as an "Apple-09s8f23" unsecured network. Once I connect, I run the AirPort Utility (v5.3.2) and it detects it no problem. But after I go through the configuration process in the AP Utility, it gives me an error message: "AirPort Utility was unable to find your Apple wireless device after restarting...etc.". Meanwhile, the network still shows up in my Windows Wireless Network list, but cannot connect to it, and the light on the AX is still green. I have tried unplugging the ethernet cable to the AX, moving the AX to the same room as my wireless PC, and repeating the reset-configuration process, but still no luck, so I don't think it has anything to do with the Linksys router or the cable modem.
Sorry for the wordy post, but does anyone have any advice or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

So I went back to the PC after my original post, and somehow I was able to connect to the AirPort wireless network in the Windows Wireless Network List. Once I did this, it showed up in the AirPort Utility, and I was able to access the internet. I have no idea what fixed the problem, but maybe it was simply a matter of waiting a few minutes before connecting to the network?

  • I have amber flashing light on the airport

I have attemped to resolve an issue with an amber light flashing on the Airport Time capsule & in utilities which also shows a number1 in a red circle

Can you provide a bit more detail about what you have attempted and what the results were......so we can avoid asking you to do things that you have already done?
If you can....list the steps that you have taken....and then what happened after each step.
It would also be helpful if we knew what version of AirPort Utility that you were using. If you are not sure, open up AirPort Utility, click on the AirPort Utility menu in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About AirPort Utility.  Please post back with the version number that you see there.

  • I think I found a fix for Yellow/Amber Flashing Lights!

A friend of mine had an Ipod shuffle and it was flashing yellow and amber. I went home and restored it, which didn't seem to do anything. I gave it to him, and he plugged it into his computer. He was greeted by the thing that asks you if you want to delete your music or somthing because it had foreign music. He pressed, no which brought him to his library. He unplugged his Ipod, and sure enough, It Worked!
I do not no if this will work with everyones ipod.
I just want to help other people with this problem.
    Thanks ---Mason

Well, I was still showing them after 10.5.2, I'm not sure if this was the case for everybody. I wonder if anyone out there still see the warnings. Ahh, sorry I meant warning not errors.
The only one I had was for the remote desktop and that disappeared with 10.5.2
I also installed 10.5.1 combo update and that took out all but the remote desktop warning.
If you have others, then be careful how you fix them.
Most of us have gotten rid of all of them using the combo updates.
Now, if only it wouldn't take 5 minutes to verify permissions ..
See if you can come up with a fix for that

  • Amber flashing light pls help

Hi, I had this problem when I first got my airport express. Apple tech support talked me through something involving hooking up an ethernet cable to send the aex an address or something. As I recall, it worked but I was amazed and told them I'd have never figured that out myself. The guy said yeah that is beyond what we'd expect the consumer to know. I do not remember the steps. Does anyone have a clue what was done and how can I repeat the process? I'm no longer covered by telephone support for the airport express. I am trying to get it to do itunes again.

I assume you are trying to configure your Airport Express to "join" the wireless network created by your Asante wireless router? If so, follow the advice posted here by David Lovell (which applies equally to Macs and PCs):

  • Cant find Wireless Security to set up WPA

On the Linksys web based set up page - mine does not show "Wireless Security" as a sub heading under Wireless, it only shows "Wireless" in "Advanced".  Therefore I cannot set up WPA security. Can anyone help please.

    Hello Lazergirl,
I think you will have to hard reset router and then update firmware of router. Also make sure you disable all firewalls on your computer before accessing setup page.
    Follow this:
Go to www.linksys.com/download and select correct model numbers and version number. Download the firmware and save it on your computer.
Check the file it sould be firmware image file like .bin etc. If it is a compressed zip file extract it to get firmware image file.
Open setup page of router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser’s address bar, and typing password as "admin" and no user name.
    Go to administartion tab there
Go to fimware update sub-tab there
Browse for the firmware image file and click update
when update completes turn off modem & router.
After 2 minutes turn on modem and after 2 more minutes turn on router.
Now proceed to login and see if you get wireless security sub tab.

  • Help with flashing green light on Express

I am trying to set up an airport express in my office to use with my a windows laptop and my iPhone. I had it working yesterday and took it home to set up a home profile on it. Everything was working fine in both places. Today when I plugged it in it went to a steady green for a second or two then amber while it booted as usual but then to a rapid flashing green. I tried everything I can think of including resets and it still does the same thing. It keeps flashing green and never appears in my network lists. Any ideas?

The rapid flashing green light has happened 3 times to me since I first set up my Airport Extreme in fall 2007. The problem is always fixed by unplugging the LAN cable that connects through my hardwire network to my Airport Express. If I plug the LAN cable back, the rapid green returns and I can't access the network. Unplug it, and voila, the network is back. (I only encounter the problem when I have unplugged the Extreme and plugged it back in - if I leave it alone it is fine).
I think the problem is a conflict in my Airport Express being set to act as a wireless bridge by my computer-tech friend, but I had it set up to be hardwired in the network so as to never lose my iTunes to hi-fi connection if there was a wireless problem. I've yet to sit down to resolve the Express issue; however, I suspect that if your case is similar, the Extreme is in conflict with another network device. If you can isolate it the network to just your Internet connection and Extreme, see if that solves it.
    Good luck.

  • I have lost the amber/green light indicator on AirPort Express.  How canI get it back?

How can i get the amber/green light indicator on the AirPort Express.  It has stopped working.

If I do a factory reset, will I have to reset the network configuration?
Yes, but based on what you are telling us, I doubt that the device will restart after you try this. You have tested with other AC wall jacks, correct?
I just purchased the unit in April this year, it would be very soon to have to replace it, especially since I don't think I kept the receipt...
Most stores keep a record of purchases. Otherwise, Apple support can look at the serial number and know approximately when the device was sold. You should have no problem getting a replacement, I would imagine.

  • G5 startup light flashes 3 times then after a pause flashes 3 times etc.

I have a Power Mac G5 1.6 GHz which froze today. I had to shut it down by pressing and holding the startup button. Now when I try to restart it by pushing the startup button the light on the startup button flashes 3 times then after a short pause it flashes 3 times again and this repeats over and over. The chimes don't play and the screen doesn't light up. I tried pushing the Cuda/ PMU but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Wow. I have been having the EXACT same problems as the threadstarter. About 2 weeks ago it froze, and from tips i read here in the forums, tried switching around my RAM sticks. For a while it worked. Then i broke off one of the end snap-in bracket holders. So now i lost an entire row (two, technically) of available RAM. Anyhow, it still would perform random starts each time i switched RAMs around. Then 4 days ago it just plain would NOT start up at all. The stupid little three flashes taunting me.
So i ran up to the local Target, bought me a hair dryer. Toasted up the area around the RAM brackets and whaddya know!!! It WORKED! What planet am i on when a nine dollar Conair Salon Series can repair a $3,000 PowerMac. I dunno, but i'll take it!
My only follow up question would be: Is this just a cheesy temporary fix? Should i expect it to NOT boot after my next shutdown? Should i plan to have my hair-dryer in my studio now and expect to need to warm it up every time now? (In other words, can i return the hair-dryer or should i hang on to it? )
Thanks again... you guys are geniuses!!!
