Amber light without any blink

Hi!
I've got a 4 generation Time Capsule with 2TB that it worked perfectly until today. The amber light stays there all the time. I've tried to reset it, to unplugged it everything but it stays in amber and the time campsule doesnt answer so i cant get in with the airport utility to see whats happening.
Does anyone now how to fix this? I've read that maybe the hard disk is broken but its only 10 months old and i havent really used it.

A solid amber light on the Time Capsule is almost always an indication that the hard drive has failed. As Tesserax recommends, take the Time Capsule to an Apple Store, or contact Apple Support to discuss your options.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
Since the device is within the 12 month warranty period, Apple will replace the Time Capsule with a "like product", which means that it may be a refurbished device. You might want to ask for a new Time Capsule, if Apple support does not offer this option to you.

  • Just set up the time capsule, connected everything per the set up  instructions, can't get the amber light to stop blinking.

I have tried to re-start my modem and the time capsule, both to no avail. The amber light keeps blinking, and the software cannot find it wirelessly.

Reset it to factory and redo the setup.. this happens a lot now if you have moved on the Mavericks..
Make sure ipv6 is set to link-local for your wireless.
Otherwise use an iOS device with the latest firmware and use the airport utility for iOS.. it is much more reliable than the computer version.

  • Hi, My Apple TV 1st generation is showing the apple logo and the amber light keeps blinking, after a while it shows a little Apple TV with a question mark blinking on top, any ideas?

Well my question says it all.  I wasn´t using the apple tv, but noticed that the amber light started to blink, so I put it on the tv and there was the apple logo.  I did the recory with the "MENU" + "-" button, but came back the same.  After a while it showed a little Apple TV image with a "?" mark blinking on top.  I disconected it the whole night but today is doing the same. Is like it got stuck on the restart. Can anyone help me?

Fixed it after trying everything listed here with no success.
First you will need to make sure you have the ability to connect your ATV box directly to your router via a cable.  This issue is directly related to networking from my experience and once connected to wifi you will have a nightmare of a time to complete the fix.
    1.  Make sure you have NO network connection to the ATV box.
    2.  Hard reboot ATV using remote (aim remote at device and hold "menu" and "down/minus" until amber light blinks)
    3.  When ATV reboots to a diagnostic menu select "Factory Restore"
    4.  After Restore has completed select a language
    5.  You cannot skip the the wifi selection screen without setting up a connection, however: DO NOT SETUP WIFI!  Instead plug in the direct cable to your router, and hit the menu button on your remote.  You will see "connecting to network."
6  Once you are past the start up splash video you will eventually arrive at the connect to itunes screen which will start looping the apple logo and a new code about every 2 seconds.  Disconnect the network cable.
    7.  After a few seconds the loop will stop.  Press the menu button to skip the itunes connection (you will be able to do it later.)
    8.  At the following menu go to Settings > Screen Saver > Set delay for "Never"
    9.  Go back to the main menu, then go to Settings > Network > Configure TCP/IP > Click on "Using DHCP"
    9.  Click "Done"
    10.  Connect cable to router, and then proceed with updating your ATV.
After I was updated the problem did not return.
I have completed this solution personally twice on the same unit.  After getting updated and stable, I recovered my ATV again, and had the same problems again.  Repeated these steps and good to go.
Hope this helps someone, and good luck!

  • Trouble with new airport- Blinking Amber light

Not sure if this has been answered- but I'm having mucho problems with my new airport express. I am running an powerbook g4 with the original airport- and I want to use the express to extend the range of the airport. However I followed the directions on the apple support- and the light is STILL blinking amber- what's the deal. Can someone help me- step by step (i'm kinda slow...even though it's still apple haha!)
    Thanks!

I've had a lot of similar problems, and find the whole process quite frustrating, as the directions are very minimal.
The easiest way that I've come up with is as follows.
    1. Perform a hard reset of the AirPort Express. (Use a pen, pencil, or paper clip to hold down the reset btton on the bottom of the unit. Hold the implement in place until the amber light begins to blink rapidly. Release the implement.)
    2. Open up the AirPort Setup Assistant (Applications/Utilities/AirPort Setup Assistant).
    3. Select the option to set up a new AirPort Base station and select the base station (it will have a weird-looking alphanumeric name).
    4. Select the option to join the current network, and then select the option to extend the range of your current network.
The rest is pretty self-explanatory, provided that you know the password to and the name of your main base station as compared to other access points in your network. You want your AirPort Express to be a remote base station and the other to be the main base station, if I'm not mistaken. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

  • Update firmware now TC has steady amber light + not seen in airport utility

Earlier this evening my imac flashed up the firmware update for my time capsule (500GB) which i just did without thinking twice.
Firmware downloaded and TC restarted but now only has steady amber light.
I launched airport utility but my tc is not recognised.
Tried soft and hard reset but still only getting steady amber light.
Dragged the ethernet cable out and round to the imac to be able to post this.
    Any suggestions ?
    Cheers

Try a Factory Default Reset on the Time Capsule as follows:
Power the TC down and leave it off for 25-30 minutes
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in while you plug the power back in to the TC
Keep holding the reset button in until you see the amber light begin to blink more quickly and hold another few seconds when you see this and then release
Open AirPort Utility to see if you can reconfigure your Time Capsule and apply any updates that are available.

  • TC solid AMBER LIGHT then dies. Apple won't help.

Over the weekend my time capsule powered off. When I tried to restart it, it went to a solid amber light for 15-30 seconds, and then died.
I unplugged it for half an hour, same problem, unplugged it overnight, same problem.
Soft reset won't work, hard reset won't work. Can't access it with ethernet.
Tried factory reset many times, solid amber light starts to blink, then when I release reset button (having held it for various amount of time) it goes solid amber, for a split second it sounds like it might start, then dies. No light. D E A D.
So, I've researched it online, and it seems a little different to the heat / power issue. I call Apple support, and the first tech just tries to order me a new one. My serial number 819 however prevents this. So a senior advisor comes on to tell me it can't be replaced. He get's cut off....
So I call back, and the tech reads the notes and basically tells me there is nothing that can be done, and is quite blasé about the whole thing. He offers me no advice and makes no attempt to diagnose the problem, just tells me it's done and I need to buy a new one as I don't have applecare.
I point out (nicely) it's only two years old, I expected more, it's supposed to be server grade, etc.
He replies "It's only a hard drive" which I found very interesting. ONLY A HARD DRIVE? So why did I pay $340 for it? He also tells me I should have backed up my back ups. So how many "server grade" back ups do I need to make? I need to buy 5 time capsules to back up my macbook incase 4 of them just give up suddenly? He also says that it's an electronic device and electronic devices fail. Just like that. May as well have just said "Tough luck, buddy!"
Later he tries to retract that statement and puts me through to another senior advisor. Predictably she tells me the same thing. No offer of repair or attempts to diagnose problem, just it's finished. She was as nice as she could be about it, but that's the conclusion. Eventually after I explained I was disappointed with this attitude, she said maybe I could take it to the genius bar to have the information taken off and moved to a new TC.
So basically, my new drive will be costing me in the region of $700 (given that my original $340 TC is only good for the trash).
My current thinking is I shall try and retrieve the data myself, use one of my other much, much cheaper external HD's that have been running flawlessly for years as a back up, and wait to see if Apple start to issue replacements for my serial number.
Ultimately I don't want a free replacement TC, I'd rather mine worked. I was expecting a better service, at least an attempt to make me feel like this was out of the ordinary, or they were concerned about me buying more Apple products in the future.... I was also expecting a server grade HD to last more than two years.....
Anyway, stepping off my soap box..... If anyone has any suggestions how I can get this going, or what the cause might be please before I try and retrieve the data myself.
    Thanks!

I had the same problem while doing a backup.  My Capsule is a 2008 model, but an "818" in the serial number so it's not part of the recall.
THIS IS HOW I RETREIVED MY DATA FROM MY DEAD TIME CAPSULE:
Put time capsule in Zip-lock freezer bag and suck all the air out of the bag using a straw.
Put time capsule into deep freezer for a few hours. (the zip lock is to stop/reduce humidity on the electronics inside the capsule)
Remove from freezer, cross your fingers and plug it in.
On mine, after the solid yellow light went out, there was loud fans and lots of noise.  Let it boot for a couple minutes and either connect to it wireless/ethernet and start transferring your data.  Depending on how cold your freezer is (deep freeze is usually -18C/0F and house freezer is -9C/15F) will probably depend on how long the TC is up and running.  Mine ran for 45min straight, then i was done transferring and left it to see if it was fully operational again.  Checked back on it an hour later and the drive had stopped and the light was off...
You could even try to run it from inside the freezer as well...
    GOOD LUCK!!

  • AppleTv - Something wrong with the video, amber light, etc.

Hello, I have this almost new AppleTV, and since last friday, after using it and leave it plugged all night it started with some issues.
Now, after plug it, starts as usual, showing a steady amber light and then blinking amber on the front. On the TV, appears the logo for less than a second and after, the video resolution is switched. Well,... I can't describe, if its switches the resolution or it reboot.
    - Any thoughts about how to fix this?
This unit has about 8 month and less a hundred hours of use, since Its unplugged most of the time. Also went thru some troubleshooting instructions available on the official site.
    - Anyone knows, if I am still covered by the basic warranty, and If I am covered worldwide? *I bought this @NY and I'm in Argentina now.
    Thanks In advance,

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
It's a little difficult from your description to understand exactly what is happening, but I'd try pulling all the cables for 30 seconds and then trying again. If this doesn't work you might have a faulty unit, it will still be under warranty after 8 months but if you are in another location I'm not sure how it will be resolved, but I'd start by contacting  in the country you purchased it, explaining your situation and seeing what they say.
Alternatively if you have an store near to you you could take it to them and see what they say

  • Airport express worked fine now shows only constant amber light ?

airport express worked fine now shows only constant amber light ?

A solid amber light indicates that the AirPort Express cannot get out of startup mode.....likely because of a power supply issue within the device.
Try a Factory Default Reset as a last resort to see if that might help. To do this....
Power off the AirPort Express and wait a minute or two
Hold in the reset button on the Express first, and keep holding it for 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the Express back into power
Release the reset button after the hold period and allow a full minute for the Express to restart
At this point, if the Express is operating correctly, the amber light will be blinking slowly and you can reconfigure the Express again.
If the amber light remains solid after a few reset attempts, the internal power supply on the Express is faulty and the device will need to be replaced.

  • Lost Airport Express in my network. Solid amber light.

I've an Airport Extreme base station and use an Airport Express to extend the range throughout my house. Yesterday I had to restart Airport Extreme and reset it back to default mode, to make it burp out a 'stock' IP number. I renamed my network; but now my computers, using Airport Utility, can't 'see' the Airport Express. And its light is now solid amber. How do I get Airport Express back into my network to extend my range? Thank you. (BTW: I can't find the Airport utility disc that came with Airport Express.)

    Welcome to the discussions!
If you reset the Extreme back to factory defaults and reconfigured it, you will need to do the same for the Express.
Plug the Express into power and hold in the tiny reset button until the amber light begins to blink rapidly.
Open AirPort Utility to reconfigure your Express to "extend" the network created by the Extreme. If Airport Utility can't "find" the Express, temporarily connect an ethernet cable from the Express to your computer.
You may find it a bit easier to use the Manual Setup option on the Express since you already know how your Extreme is configured and you will use many of the same settings.

  • The ATT man says I am connected to the internet but I still have a flashing amber light

The ATT uverse man says I am connected to the internet but I still have a flashing amber light. Any suggestions?

Does this mean that the Time Capsule is connected to the Internet but it has a flashing amber light?.....or.....does this mean that the Time Capsule is not connected to the Internet and it has a flashing amber light?
If you are using a Mac, we need to know what operating system you are using in order to provide troubleshooting advice.
If you are not sure what operating system you are using, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, then click About This Mac.

  • MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

MIFI4620LE Jetpack blinking amber light--does this mean the battery is bad? Should the unit operate without the battery installed if plugged in?

The MIFI4620LE Jetpack does not work without a battery installed, even when connected to an external power supply.
I personally think that was a dumb design. I would think the unit would use more electricity when continually charging the battery than just powering the unit it's self, but that's the way Novatel made them.
If your Jetpack works with the battery installed and connected to an external power supply, but does not power on with power supply disconnected, I would say that the battery is defective or worn out.
You should be able to go to a nearby Verizon Store and have them either test the battery or put a new one in it to see if it works. Then you will know if you need to spend the $$ for a new battery. OR if you always use your Jetpack at home, or in your car, just use the old battery connect to a power supply or your cigarette lighter and save the cash.
As the Customer Support person stated, the slow blinking amber light is a normal state when the Jetpack is turned on and connected to Verizon's service.
I hope this solves your problem.

  • Trying to resolve a blinking amber light on my Time Capsule. The problem is i don't see the airport utilities under Apps/Utilities..any ideas?

trying to resolve a blinking amber light on my Time Capsule. The problem is i don't see the airport utilities under Apps/Utilities to try and reset..any ideas?

AirPort Utility should be here:  Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
If it is not there, you can download it from here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Temporarily, connect an Etherent cable from your Mac to one of the LAN <-> ports on the back of the Time Capsule
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click directly on the word Status (2nd line) and a window will open to explain why the Time Capsule is complaining along with suggested actions to remedy the issue

  • Airport Express 801.11b/g and the neverending, unconfigurable blinking amber light

Gather round and let me tell you a tale. Once upon a time I bought an airport express 801.11b/g and I was very happy to use it for airtunes, extending a wi-fi network and the wireless printing capabilities. One day, it beagn flashing a scaaaary amber light. The base station stopped showing up in my airport utility 5.6 as well. The only way to get it to show up, was to hard reset it, and lose all the configurations I once enjoyed happily. After the hard reset, It would show up in the utility, and I would reconfigure it to do all its cool things it once did, and it would restart. But sadly, after restarting the blinking amber light came on a again. It would also not show up in the utility unless I hard reset it again, and the same thing happened over and over and over until I felt like pulling my hair out.
I decided to get another airport express a few months later, ultimately deciding that the unit must have just been defective. Bad luck. But - the second unit literally went through the SAME EXACT THING. Worked for a while, then onto the blinking amber light- hard reset- reconfigure-blinking amber light thing. Over and over and over. Just like the first one. The end.
So - either Im missing something totally fundamental or I had the misfortune of getting two defective units in a row. Both were bought used from different places, and worked "fine" for previous owners. Am I corrupting these things or what?
I have spent literally hours trying all the resets, configuring "workarounds" and nothing works. For both of them.
What do I do with these two devices? I don't need two shiny white paperweights.
    Please advise,
    Thanks.

Yes. It seems an integral part of the set up process though, you don't have to seperately configure the airport do you?
My wireless security is WPA/WPA2 Personal. When I go through the standard network set up, it automatically enters my wireless security settings. So it doesn't really seem to give an option to specifically set that option on the airport if that makes sense?
I did go through maunual mode to try that with the same result:
If I'm using the airports own network and connect to the wifi, no security, then I'm getting airtunes from my macbook. Of course this means it's plugged into my router via ethernet which isn't any use to me as I want it in my kitchen, and would rather not limit my apple devices to b/g when I have a decent N router, and would also mean running a huge ethernet cable across my house!
The seller has said it worked for him but he's not up to scratch on his tech, so if I'm sure it's malfunctioning he'll refund. Obviously this is great news and he seems like a very nice guy so I want to be certain it's not me malfunctioning before I send it back!
So in summary I have it functioning on it's OWN network:
Wireless mode: Create a wireless network
Wireless network name: Apple Network XXXXXX
    etc
Once 'wireless mode' is switched from 'create a wireless network' to 'join a wireless network' I select my current WiFi, security and password, checked the TCP/IP settings all good. Select 'Update'. Get the warning that device and network will be temporarily unavailable am I sure I want to continue. Then it goes through the same as before, says it's succesful, restarts to flashing amber with no way of accessing it unless I hard reset.
Thanks for the help so far...

  • Airport extreme blinking amber light error when connecting to new modem

I have just bought and installed a new modem gateway.  It is an Arris TG852G DOC 3.0 model with a built in WiFi router.
After connecting it and activating it through Comcast, I reset, then reconnected my airport extreme MD0331LL/A Model No. A1408 to the new Arris
modem, I am getting blinking amber lights on the base station.  I have internet connectivity, but I am still getting an amber light.  My wireless devices (ipad and iphones) all see the old network name and id and seem to work just fine.
When I scanned for my airport base station in my airport utility (version 5.6.1)  to try to resolve the error message I get
a message stating that the Airport Utility is not detecting any airport devices.
I cannot reset the default settings as these buttons do not work within the Airport Utility.
I suspect interference between the built in router in the Arris and I understand I need to operate it in bridge mode.  Can you please help me fix this.
The COMCAST people are extremely unhelpful, and stated that this is not their problem but a problem with my router
as they have provifded me  internet connectivity through the modem and the issue is my problem.

Try connecting an Ethernet cable from your computer directly to one of the LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme to see if AirPort Utility can detect the AirPort Extreme that way.
If yes, click on the AirPort Extreme and then click directly on the word Status (2nd line on the summary page)
A window will open to explain why the amber light is blinking
If the message indicates that you need to configure the AirPort in Bridge Mode......
Click the Internet icon at the top of the window
Click the Internet Connection tab just below
Change the setting for Connection Sharing to Off (Bridge Mode)
Click Update at the lower right of the window to save the new setting and restart the AirPort Extreme
You can disconnect the Ethernet cable that you were using to configure the AirPort Extreme now
It would be a good idea to power off both the Arris gateway and the AirPort Extreme now
    Wait a minute
Start the Arris first, and let it run a full minute
Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way
    You should be all set

  • A blinking amber light doesn't necessarily mean that something is wrong.

Yesterday I set up a new AEBSn in bridge mode so that an attached hard disk could be shared by two Mac computers connecting to the AEBSn wirelessly pending inauguration of a new DSL connection.
Although the configuration worked perfectly, the amber light continually blinked because the AEBSn sensed that an Ethernet cable was unplugged even though the configuration did not call for any Ethernet connections.
Interestingly, the blinking amber light turned to solid green as soon as I added two network printers via Ethernet cables.

Just wanted to make sure you know that if the amber light is blinking, you can run the new Airport Utility and when the wireless devices appear on the left hand side of the page, anyone that is flasking amber will show up with a flashing amber light. If you double click on that device a new window will come up. On the summary page you'll see a line that says name of device and it will have a status light next to it that is the same as the status light on the equipment. In this case a flashing amber light. If you double click on the flashing symbol it will give you the reason for the flashing amber light.
In most cases at this point, the flashing amber light is usually because there was no security applied to the system.
If you opt, you can also turn off the amber light if you can live with the problem.
