Just to add to what Jim said, you might have some luck with renting one of these...

or similar to lay you clips out to a tape machine that will take external time code.
Depends on what gear you have in-house.

  • Audio crackling killing FCP audio but not in stand alone QT player

I have a file I recorded in IShowU.
When I load it into final cut every once in a while I get a large crack and pop from the audio that kills my speakers requiring a reboot. If I play it through headphones it still cracks but it doesn't kill the audio.
If I play that EXACT same file in Quicktime stand alone player it plays perfectly. However, if I export the file from Final Cut and try to play it in Quicktime it has the same pops as it does in Final Cut.
    Any ideas?
    This is FCP 6.0.6

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm having the same issue with some audio in a FCP project. It was fine last night, but when I hopped on my machine this morning to work on it, I played the project and now have a segment of audio where it just gives a large pop/crackle and kills the speakers. If I have my headphones in, it keeps playing and there is the loudest static you've ever heard. The weird part is there is other segments of audio from the same clip in other parts of the video and they're fine. Additionally, when previewing the segment that crackles in the viewer window, there aren't any problems. It only happens in the timeline.

  • FCP error message: Unable to read the data on your source tape!

    Hey,
So I have been editing on the MacPro now for over a year and I have never seen this message before...the message reads:
_*"Capture encountered a problem reading the data on your source tape. This could be due to a problem with the tape."*_
Has anyone got this message and could help me out please? I need to edit these tapes A.S.A.P.
    Thank You,
    Erick

why would it start a month later giving me problems instead of when it was updated?
That is a good point. Anything change since the time it worked to when it didn't? How about trying another firewire cable. Those can go south without notice, might cause this.

  • How to install the musegrid audio widget?

Does anyone know how to install the MuseGrid Audio Widget. Once I get in in the library I drag it onto the page, preview it and nothing show in the browser. I have the assets folder that comes with it but have no clue how to connect the widgets assets to the audio player. As well as how to connect the mp3 file to the audio player.
There are no clear cut instructions about the install and even on the page I downloaded it from the video tutorial does not play. I think I gave away $9..Please Help

Unfortunately I can't help with that particular widget, however I will mention that we do also have an audio widget over @ MuseThemes.com. There is a training video on this page that explains how our Audio Widget works - you might have some luck getting your downloaded widget to work by using a similar method as we use...

  • Problem getting tracks to display in the right order

My music library does not always display tracks in the desired order.  For example, after loading a concerto from a CD I find the movements are out of order.  When I try to rectify this by putting a numeral into the track title itunes takes no notice.   I've had the same problem organising talking book tracks: when I try to order the untitled tracks numerically, itunes reads the numbers oddly eg L1 01 is followed not by L1 02 but by L2 01; then it reverts to L1 02, then L2 02 etc. With letters itunes alphabet order without exception. Why does it not do so with numbers?
Does anyone have a suggestion or solution to this?  Is there an easier way to get itunes to play the track in the desired order?

Either you have the list sorted on the wrong column heading or the track numbers are not populated. See Grouping tracks into albums for more info.

  • Just got fcp, how do mute the sound on the video clip so it does not come through the audio track?

just got fcp, how do mute the sound on the video clip so it does not come through the audio track?
    Please help

Don't edit the audio into the timeline. Or pull the audio level down to zero in the inspector or on the audio waveform in the timeline.

  • Multi track audio export in FCP X

I have been supplying a .mov file for broadcast of motor sport events, including a commentary track, consisting of a full mix of all audio tracks. The new method is that the broadcaster now wants four audio tracks, with tracks 1 - 3 the full mix inc. commentary (three languages, although we only supply English so each track is English only), and track 4 the "international track", effectively the background effects (engine noise etc.), background music and interviews..... everything other than the commentary so foreign language commentary can be added as required for various countries. In FCP v7 this would be quite straightforward..... In FCP X I am struggling to see ANY way of achieving this simply. Does anybody have a clue?
The effects mics on the cameras record the audio that accompanies the video. Add background music that drops into another track.....let's call this audio track 2. Add a piece of commentary to a piece of video and this drops into audio track 2, but add a separate piece of commentary to a segment where background music has been added and that piece of commentary drops into audio track 3, below the music. Straight away you can see the issue.... with background music and some of the commentary on the same track, and other bits of commentary on another track.
Tracks 1-3 need to be the full mix, track 4 the "international" effects track. If I complete the edit, turn the visibility off for each commentary piece, save this out as a .mov file, I would have the international track with effects/music/interviews etc.. In reverse I could save out the commentary track. I could then import each version to FCP, drop the commentary track on to the primary storyline, duplicate it twice and drop it into the tracks below, but then when I add the video track with the effects, how do I get the audio portion of that into track 4, assuming I drop the video over the top of the primary storyline...? This is clearly a very clunky (awful) workaround...... assuming it is possible, but there must be another way surely....what am I missing? I am using the latest version of FCP X (10.1.4). Without a dedicated track based system where you can (simply) specify what track contains what it seems a simple task has become an absolute pain to achieve.

Typed this hours ago and forgot to post it.....
Have actually done that and sent a test piece to the broadcaster. Not sure if I have got the audio tracks in the right order.... from top to bottom would that be audio tracks 1-4, with four at the bottom? I am waiting to hear back from the broadcaster to see if the test piece works as they expect it to.

  • IMovie audio settings for FCP?

    Hi there
I have had this question for a while, and never got to post it.
I often import my footage using iMovie, mainly because it is easier and lets me do a quick edit quite simply. When I then bring those clips into FCP I always need to render the audio. Does anyone know if there is a setting either in iMovie or FCP to avoid this?
    thanks
    Hannes

    Hi Michael
Just as an update/conclusion, I tested it and both FCP and iMovie are pleased – no more rendering of the audio in the timeline. I now have an Automator workflow exporting all my .dv files to .mov, so soon I will be back on track.
    Thanks for your helpful answer

  • Phantom audio pops in FCP 7

I'm a working on an FCP 7 project with 10 audio tracks and am experiencing a phantom pop at a specific place in the timeline.
Here's the weird part: I can not isolate the pop. When I turn off any one of the tracks, the pop disappears. It doesn't matter which track I turn off, the pop is gone. The pop also does not appear on any of the original tracks. I've tried replacing each and every one from the viewer to no effect.
Also, if I play 15 frames before the pop, I don't hear it.
When I output there's a colossal sound explosion at the pop point in the timeline.
I've done the obvious things, trashed preferences. Deleted audio waveform cash and render files. But nothing works.
I'm losing my mind and have to finish on Tuesday. Any help would be very much appreciated.
FCP 7 and 10.6 both up to date. Quad-core MacPro with 16G RAM

    The likely cause is either:
    A) you have audio sources with different sampling rates mixed in the timeline. If this is the case, resample everything to 48khz/16bit.
    or
    B) You have overwhelmed the ability of FCP to mixdown the audio in Real Time. If this is the case, do an audio mixdown (look it up in FCP help) and/or increase the number of audio tracks for real time audio mixing in FCP's preferences. With 10 tracks used, I'd increase it to 12 or more. The setting can be found in the User Preferences>General section.

  • What is the standard for audio balancing in FCP?

    Hi Guys,
I am cutting a feature film shot on DVX 100, they used boom mic to capture the audio,
the sound man control the sound around -18, however, the boom mic captured dialogus with the ambiance sound as well, for some particular outside scenes, the environment sound is pretty loud and noisy.
What I did was to minor the audio level slight lower, bring the level of audio to -2 (as original level is 0 from the audio clip, not the audio meter) however, after I did that, I preview the video from a sony monitor, and audio I connected to the sony monitor through the firewire ( so... the sound is not from my Rokit speakers, it's from the monitor) the problem came out, the level is too low, if normal video s audio level on the monitor, I will probably set 40, this feature film, i need to bring up to 70....
I predict that there must be something wrong with it for outputting. however, if i keep the audio level higher, the environment ambiance sound will be very loud.
    so my question is
should I keep the audio level low for safety reason?
or should I just bring up the level for just in case audience cant hear it? ( the the ambiance will be noisy
How do deal with this problem?
Any suggestions or advises are highly appreciated!
    Hiro

If the ambience is something like an AC unit or other steady source, you could try and find a section of the audio that is only the ambience, sample it and try suppressing it/subtracting it from your audio track with soundtrack pro. This would improve your desired audio to ambient noise ratio.

  • Audio missing in FCP after export

    Hi
So I have an audio track in FCP which I sent to STP and added a limiter and reduce noise filter to. Saving it and going back to FCP I notice that 2 seconds are missing from the end of the audio.
I sent the referenced clip with no handles.
Now my sound is out of sync.
    Thanks
    Joe

Did you do a Send to a Multitrack Project?
STP expects to see 48k audio coming from FCP and send aiff 48k back as an exported file.

  • Audio mixing in FCP: anyway to put a peak limiter on the entire mix?

I know how to apply audio filters and effects to individual audio tracks, but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
I come from a music production background, typically, we will have effects on the individual tracks, but then there will also be some effects on the stereo mix (master bus), such as a mastering limiter or peak limiter.
I haven't seen anyway to do something like this within FCP.
I have FCS, I have SoundTrack Pro, but I haven't used it yet - is this something you need to do with SoundTrack?

Thanks! Even though I've got nested sequences in my project, it didn't dawn on me to take the whole final timeline, and nest it all one more time, in order to get down to two tracks of audio and video. You're absolutely right, you can apply effects to the whole audio mix, then.
Of course, after spending the day playing with Sound Track, I'm seeing the possibilities there, it's a much more well-developed application for editing and tweaking the audio mix, more and better effects, but there is sort of a "disconnect" going on when you have to be going back and forth between the two applications.
