AMD 2000+ XP

I am newer in pc ensambling. I have a kt2 combo mother, how is the normal configuration of jumpers and bios for amd XP2000+ ( i dont want to overclock i want normal functionality)
Thanks peaple

Set the FSB to 133MHz, that should be all you need to do since you are not overclocking.

  • Blank screen after installing K7T turbo and AMD 2000+ chip

Hello, I got a problem, can anyone help me figure this out.
Currently I changed my old motherboard and replaced it with a K7t Turbo2 Motherboard and I also bought a AMD Xp 2000+ processor chip to go with it.
After installation, I encountered numberous problems like:
    1. The computer will only turn on and off by the power source box at the back of the computer.
    2. The reset button doesn't reset the computer at all.
    3.  I keep getting a blue screen when entering windows xp (forgot what the message said, but said something like, it did that to help windows or something).
Anyways after that, I formatted the hard drive.  Re-installed it with Windows XP.  Once the installation was completed, it automatically reset, the computer.  BUT insatead it just gave a blank black screen while the computer is still on(I can tell because I can still hear the heat sink fan blowing).
Next, I turned the power switch (on the back) off and on again. The computer did successfully booted and it brought me to the windows xp's Window.  I then logged off from windows and now I have this problem:
When turning the computer back on, the computer will boot up, then a few seconds later (about 3 to 5 seconds) the computer will shut right off.
Any questions or answers will be great appreciated.

HI. What version bios are you running? If its 3.0, you need to update your bios in order to run the 2000XP. Are you sure that your  case wires for the switches are in the right place? One way you might try to test the psu, is to close jumper j17, This will make the cpu run at 100fsb. If it boots ok at 100 fsb, Then your power supply is probably the culprit. With j17 open, the cpu runs at full power,133fsb, and it takes more power to run. BIGDADDY51 CT.USA  J17 is located just under the memory slots.  edit: you mean power off and on by power supply switch? This is normal. Then you should be able to push the case switch and have the computer restart.Check your case wires again.

  • AMD 2000+ TB core & PC2100 DDR mem

I just installed an AMD XP 2000+ processor with a T-Bred core.  I also installed some DDR pc2100 memory.  What should I set my bios to in order to make sure this thing is running as fast as possible?  Do I set the CPU FSB to 266mhz and then is there anything I need to do to make sure the RAM is running at the same speed?  Lastly, the retail box the proc came in says it runs at 1.667 Ghz.  WHen I check it in the Core Center, it says it's running at like 1.2xx Ghz.  What gives?

Dude... thanks... that fixed like almost all of my problems.  Now the bios start up screen appears and now CoreCenter reports 1.667 Ghz!  Thanks again.... is there anything I need to do to my RAM now?

  • MSI KT3 ultra aru Western Digital 200GB raid problem

    Hi!
    This is what I've got.
    KT3 Ultra-ARU (MS-6380E)
    AMD 2000+
256 MB 333mhz RAM (AMD Compatible)
Seagate ST330630A 30GB (an old drive)
    Maxtor 6L080J4 80GB
    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 6Y080L0 80Gb 7200rpm 2Mb UDMA133 Fluid IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD1800JB 180Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
Western Digital Caviar WD2000JB 200Gb 7200rpm Special Edition UDMA100 IDE
    Promise 100 IDE-controller
    Creative Geforce MX 440
    Lite-on LTR-40125W
    NEC ND-1300 DVD
    And the configuration:
    IDE1: Seagate (Master)
    IDE2: WD1800BG (Cabel Select)
IDE3(Raid1): Maxtor 6LO80J4 (Master) and Maxtor 6Y080L0 (Slave) raided as an single drive
    IDE4(Raid2): WD2000JB (Cable Select)
    IDE5(IDE-controller1):
    IDE6(IDE-controller2): NEC ND-1300 (Master) and Lite-on LTR-40125W (Slave)
    And the Software:
I've updated all the software drivers so I've got the newest and I'm currently runnign Win2k SP3 with almost every patch installed on it.
    And finally the problem:
When I've hook my WD2000JB to the on-board raid everything seems to be working normaly. The bios finds the drive and makes a new array. Win2k boots up and finds the drive and I can create an partition. But when I've try to format it it the computer starts to freeze for a while and then acts like normal again. The HDD-led blinks as it should during the "normal" time, but when the comp. freezes it stops blinking. The formatation stops at 7% and the HDD-led stops lighting. I don't get an error eventhough it was several hours since it stoped. And the formatation takes like 30min for 1%.
When I connect the WD2000JB to the IDE3 I can format it and it acts just like normal. I even did a full system test with the System tool found on Western Digitals support site and it didn't find any errors. But when move it to the raid-IDE the errors return. I've get Error reading / writing to disk and when I've did a chkdsk I've got the "Coudn't use Device) so I did a scandisk and it found very very many errors so it completly ereased everything that was on it.
And when I've run Western Digitals program again i've get an error (Disk error read/writing) error code: 0113.
Can it be that the Western Disk doesn't work well with Raid? I've haven't heard anything about that, so...
    Best regars,
    Mathias

RAM: Micron DDR 266MHz (2x256MB DIMMs)

I've had similar problems where my system becomes very unstable at higher bus speeds. Installing Windows XP simply didn't work very good. However, I have ordered a new PSU today as a solution to this problem. Basically, CPUs and video cards are much more demanding and the more devices you have in your computer the more power you're going to need. I recommend purchasing the Enermax EG465P-VE (FCA) 450W ATX PS. It has a higher amperage rating and will most likely solve your problem.
Check your PSU and your bus speed settings...

  • Compare-- Nvidia-cards

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how can i configure ok my msi, video card
    i have a fx5200 t-128.
I`m asking this because i´ve compared a lot my card with other video cards of some friends and the results are bad, their cards (64 megs mx 440 evga ddr 8x, 64megs mx440se xfx SDR) worked better in all of the games where i´ve proved. games like grand thieft auto-vice city, quake3, wolfenstein, max pain 2, need for speed 6 etc (I though that in this game having 128megs of ddr, would improve the image and running, but it only managed to run the game the same as the other two cards).
I´ve done all the recomendations the forum has to offer, but it just doesn't work it only works ok (ok, is to run Gta vice-city, on 1027-768-32bits, without slowing never, or sometimes)  when i put the clocks on captain (MSI drivers), and i dont like that; the card is suposed to give better resolution on games, than this other 2 cards, on its normal clock numbers is,nt it?.
When i bought my computer I had the chance to decide between the fx5200 t-128, an mx440-128 megs 8x ddr(evga), and a mx440 64megs 8x ddr (evga), now i think i chosed bad i though that MSI products with other MSI products worked better, but i think i was wrong.
I need help with the clock thing i think i´ve bodered to much with that.

The 5200 is the problem not MSI.
The 5200 is the MX class card of today, so yes, you made a poor choice in the class of card. Thinking that MSI products work better with each other seems logical in theory but it is naive in nature. The same applies with any manufacturer.
You basically stepped sideways instead of forward in other words.
It may even be configuration issues with the system you are using it on. I noticed that on the KT6, you are using DDR 400 and an AMD XP2000+, I do know that on the nvidia chipset, you have to run the memory and the CPU with the same ratio 1:1 or you wil have a performance loss, even if your RAM is rated higher, but I think it is ok on the VIA board.
BIOS settings, OS configuration, driver optimization/version & monitor used can all impact gaming on a wide variety of hardware, so it's really hard to pin it down to any one thing. I can tell you it's not MSI's fault as far as hardware goes. I would consider downloading the latest drivers from nVidia here --> nVidia Drivers
    Bottom line the 5200 class is a weak card...the GF4 TI4200 performs better...way better.

  • I've got the 1417/1418 blues:(

My daughter just purchased the new 8gb Nano. Brought it home and plugged it in. Had to wait 1.5 hours for the battery to charge before my computer would see it. I had a working version 6 of iTunes but a prompt indicated that the Nano needed v7.0.2 to run. I took a gamble and updated to v7. Bad move! This has happened in the past as well. I'm getting a prompt saying to update ipod to ver. 1.1.1. It starts and bombs out in the middle of update indicating error 1417. I reboot and try again and I get error 1418. The strange thing is it seemed to be gathering info from my library and crashes in the middle of "updating ipod" from the library.
I'm going to try the suggestions for potential fixes for this problem. Why is it with every update there are new problems??
    Any assistance is appreciated!
    Thanks
amd 2000+ 512mb   Windows XP Pro

Following up on my previous post, I somehow was able to get back to the menus on the Nano. I can navigate thru all the sub menus but when I sync the Nano within itunes (7.0.2) the do not disconnect is displayed and copying starts. After, about 12 to 14 songs into the library the do not disconnect display changes to the normal menu and a few moments later an error displayed is The iPod "Cayla's iPod" cannot be updated, the required file cannot be found". I tried resetting and reconnecting to no avail. When I attempt to restore, I fall back into the error 1418. I can't even do a restore! The Nano at one point did have 2 songs on it so it appears a portion of the transfer worked. Is there a limitation on file names??
I actually wonder if the Nano was properly formatted but isn't that what the restore is for? It is identified in Windows Explorer as a removable drive but when I looked at the properties, there were no files? Wouldn't a formatted disk show some size other than 0 in the properties?
I'm wondering if the unit is a lemon? Brand new and I can't even use it!
    Suggestions?
    Thanks

  • K7T Turbo2 No Bootup

i just bought the MSI K7T Turbo2 MS-6330 v5. i'm using the AMD 2000+. i was using a 350w power supply. didnt boot up. i thought it was the extra 4 pin power supply thing (that p4's have) which was the problem. i went out and bought a 400w power supply with the extra 4 pins. still didnt work. i then wondered if it was my cpu, so i tried a working AMD Tbird 1.33ghz from a different machine. still no luck. The D-Bracket gives me 4 red leds on both occassions. i know its not my cpu. i know its not my power supply. i also changed the video card from a gf2 gts to an ati 8500. no luck there. i can never get to POST. nothing ever comes on screen. a friend with same board had similar problems not getting into POST and fixed it by setting FSB from 133 to 100. he was using a Duron 950 though. i tried this method, still no luck. i've tried just about everything i know, and cant get it to work. any other tips? should i contact msi and send this board back?

    --------------------------

already did so Bas. i've built a few computers in my time, have run into many problems, but never anything like this. when i first ran into the problem, i read on the troubleshooting first, when that didnt work, i tried switching the various cpus/psu/gpu/memory. still didnt work. then i started from the beginning, broke out the mobo manual, and did it step by step. still no luck. i'm kinda pissed cuz i bought a new psu ($67, although i wouldve needed it eventually), sort-of new gpu ($40 ati radeon 8500), new cpu ($104 AMD 2000+ because i thought my previous AMD 2000+ was fried), memory ($56 PC133 PNY 512MB). i've tested the mobo with 2 cpu's (the tbird 1.33ghz and amd 2000+, am waiting for my new amd 2000+ to come in), 3 gpu's (radeon 8500, gf2 gts, tnt2 ultra, all agp), different arrangement of memory (512mb pny + 512mb kingston value ram dimm slot 0+1 and vice versa, 512mb pny alone dimm slot 0, 512mb kingston alone dimm slot 0), and with various psu's (350w antec, 250w generic, 400w powmax w/the extra 4pin adapter that mobo optionally requires). still no luck. after all this, i'm thinking i may have ordered a bad mobo, i dunno though. please help  :D

  • Basic Home Server

Hey folks.  Thinking of building a basic server for storing files and torrenting.  Maybe later on expand it into doing other things but it's not gonna be doing anything big.
Got a basic build here and just thought I'd run it past you guys see if it will be compatible with linux.  It's been a long time since I looked up new hardware and don't really know what is good these days or what will work (with minimal effort ) on linux.
    Asustek V3-P5G31 S775 Intel G31 300W PSU A L G
    Crucial 1GB 800MHz DDR2 PC2-6400
    Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz
    Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM S300 32MB
    Pioneer 20X DVD+/-RW 12xRAM BLACK SATA
That all comes to about £255 which seems reasonable to me but again, I'm out of touch.   All basic stuff and nothing new so I don't think there will be any problems with linux but not sure about the G31 chipset.
Not really bothered about raid arrays as most of my stuff is backed up thrice anyways.  I have also been looking at some other NAS boxes like some IcyBoxs but they look a bit less polished than running Arch on a custom.
So how's it look to you guys?  Been searching google but my search terms are a bit vague it seems so can't find much about compatibility.
    Cheers.

CPU = overkill - you'll do fine with the T5xx-line of Intels C2D
HD = maybe not necessary, but I would consider a mainboard with ICHxR - that way you can expand to using a RAID-setup if necessary. Prices here are around € 10 more than a regular ICHx-chip...
MB = OK (except above comment). I have installed arch on a G33 just fine, so I don't except problems for you.
RAM = so cheap I would go for 2GB. I know you're only running a fileserver, but there's lots more you can do with a server: tinkering around and you'll be hosting a mailserver for the entire family and you'll be securing the box with Kerberos / LDAP authentication and so on
PSU: DON'T SKIMP ON THIS ONE! I've fixed numerous computers with instability problems just by replacing the PSU with a decent brand (ANTEC, TAGAN, OCZ f.e.)
    Zl.
BTW: Maybe you can find some used computer and stuff it with a RAID-card and three hard disks for the same price. I replaced a 6y-old computer (AMD 2000+ with 1.5GB RAM) for a friend with a new one and got to keep the old one. All I had to do was replace the PSU to get it up again. I had a RAID-card lying around and now I'm only shopping for some disks to have my very own server...

Update your BIOS to the latest version, then try again.

  • Where is the rest of the voltages

guys I'm having a bit of a problem here... I had a AMD 2000+ and my mobo( MSI Kt3 Ultra ) just was great... but today I've got a 1800+ Througbred and it does not gives me the oportunity to choose more than 1.6vcore why??? I've updated the bios and it still is not giving me the 1.85v of normal vocre... can anyone help me please.... thanks

Yeah! looks like I gonna have to do that... but is quit a dilema, a new board with new warranty or a processor with no warranty ( this is if I do the L11 Mod ) what the hell... If I manage to sell this board for a.... lets say.... 75€ I'll buy a new one... Maybe Epox or Asus A7N8X...
this stuff of the "non-free" vcore really me off... Just Can´t understand why MSI don't give us the rest of the vcore since the board supports it....

  • [VIA] Problem with a KT4V MB.

    Hello
I ahve a problem, I linked two computers in a network and whenver I try to copy something to and from the KT4V Computer it restarts itself. Also the computer reboots randomly in Windows or at windows xp startup screen (5 sec after starting comp).
What should I do ? Can it be a MB problem ? what can It be?
    The computer is:
    MB: KT4V
    CPU: AMD 2000+ Mhz
    RAM: 1x 128 DDRAM PC 2100  PQI and 1x 128 DDRAM PC 2700 Samsung
    HDD: 40GB Western Digital
    Video: FX5200 nVidia
    ATX Source 400W: with  +12 18A / +5 32A / +3.3 25A
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Download this prgram and use it to test the memory.
    http://www.memtest.org/download/1.55.1/memtest86+-1.55.1.floppy.zip
Extract all files to a folder first then run the install.bat and it will create a memtest bootdisk.
Again using 1 stick at a time run the program for at least 1 hour.
Any errors means that there is a problem with the memory/power.
Should everything be ok then try clearing the CMOS using the Jbat jumper.
Also the CPU should be running at 1.667Ghz (133x12.5).

  • No sound onboard - error installing Avance AC 97

Hi! I'm happy with my new system, the KT333 with an AMD 2000+. There are however some problems  X( . One of them is the sound: I have no sound whatsoever. I installed the drivers from the CD and get stuck.
In Device Managers/Sound it says: the device 'Avance AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller' is working properly. Driver date is 3-26-2002.
The problem may come from DirectX: when checking MSI, DirectX Diagnostic Tool, I get these errors:
    - DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
    - DirectMusic test results: Failure at step 6 (Activating the IDirectMusicPort): HRESULT = 0x88780078 (No driver)
I tried reinstalling DirectX: it fails ('DirectX did not copy a required file').
I tried reinstalling AC'97: 'An error occurred while parsing command line arguments or reading Setup.ini. Interface not registered'.
I never before had problems installing software. After having run the CD with drivers I cannot install any software anymore: I get this last 'Interface not registered' error.
Anyone a suggestion? Thanks in advance for help.
PS the C-partiton is a clone of a good functioning client-PC and has been tuned for working in the new hardware environment. I did remove sounddrivers a.o.
    System:
    KT333
    AMD 2000+
    2 x Maxtor 80G 7200 rpm

Hmmm the clone may be the problem.  Do I understand you have WinXP?  It maybe that the fact that you have a clone that some software installation clashes with settings that exist in the clone.  My advice in such a case would be do a clean install of the OS and just copy other files across manually.
    Anybody any other ideas?

  • Msi 5700ultra questions...

    Hi everyone!
I'm at the time sitting with a geforce 3 ti200 in my chase and will hopefully buy a 5700Ultra from MSI.
Now the main question I'm asking myself is, will the card work properly with my motherboard and the system?
The motherboard I own is a MSI KT4V and the rest of the system is:
    My System:
    Microstar KT4V-L 133FSB
    AMD 2000+ @ 1.67GHz
    2 sticks Twinmos 256mb PC2700 @ 333MHz
    Nvidia Geforce 3 ti200
    2 Harddiscs (IBM Desktar 7200rpm 60GB) (IBM/Hitachi 7200rpm 80GB)
    Samsung CDRW 48X/24x/48X
    Toshiba Floppy drive
    Soundblaster 4.1 LIVE!
OS/ Windows XP Servicepack 1 and all the updates
    PSU: Chieftec 360W
    +5V 35A
    +3.3V 28A
    +12V 17A
    -5V 0.3A
    -12V 0.5A
    +5VSB 2A
    +5V and +3.3V = 220W
    +12V = 204W
Will the MSI 5700ultra work great with my system?
I've seen that several people have had some problems with the card.
I hope you all are helpful!
    TONY

    yes
if you buy FX 5700 ultra your performance and quality will improve
    I think your bench mark on 3dmark 2001 and 2003 are :
    3d mark 2001  about 6000
    3d mark 2003 about 700
But when you buy a new FX 5700 ultra your bench marks will:
    3d mark 2001  about  12000
    3d mark 2003 abou 3500
then your performance on direct x 8.1 will about 2 times faster
    and
in new games that support direct x 9 your bench marks will about 5 times faster than before and your games will run with very high quality .
if you change your cpu to athlon xp 2800+ barton your bench marks with geforce fx 5700 ultra :
    3dmark 2001 14000
    3d mark2003 4000 - 4500

  • MSI G3Ti200 Pro-TD128

I have just recently purchased an MSI G3Ti200 Pro-TD128 Video card and am having trouble installing the driver for it. Let me give a bit of back ground of my system and what I have tried so far. I have a MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E) mainboard with 1gb 2100 DDR ram, an AMD 2000+ XP processor and I am running Windows 98 SE. I have just recently updated my Bios to the latest version (5.6) as well as downloaded and installed the latest chipset drivers for my motherboard. I have also made sure my bios AGP setting was at 4x. My problem is that when I put in the installation disk and click on the install VGA driver link it tells me that it can't find the device. I then tried to install the driver manually through the add hardware feature. It says it installed correctly but when I reboot the monitor stays black after the initial Windows screen and then it reboots itself and goes to the safe mode menu. Once I did get the driver installed and back into Windows but it was still in 16 color mode and when I attempted to set it to high color and rebooted I got a message that the display properties were incorrect for the hardware that I had. I know my AGP slot works because I put my Riva TNT 2 32mb card back in and have no problems with it.
Please help I have tried everything I know (which isn't much   ) )

Good point, I missed that critical point in my first read.
There are fixes or workarounds for that.
Win98/98SE/ME can't handle more than 512 megs of memory
It's a known issue that Win ME, Win98 and Win95 cannot deal with main memory sizes in excess of 512MB.
This problem may occur more readily with AGP video adapters because the AGP aperture is also mapped to addresses in the system area
For example, if Vcache is using a maximum cache size of 800MB and an AGP video adapter has a 128MB aperture mapped, there is very little address space remaining for the other system code and data that must occupy this range of virtual addresses."
And here are the three suggested workarounds:
    1. Physically remove any memory in excess of 512MB
    2. Use the System Configuration utility to limit the amount of memory that Windows uses to 512MB or less.
    3. Use the MaxFileCache setting in the System.ini file to reduce the maximum amount of memory that Vcache uses to 512MB (524,288 KB) or less."
And the unspoken fourth solution: upgrade to Windows 2000.
MS knowledgebase also admits that the addressing restriction has been identified as a failing in Windows. Installing Win2K obviated the problem. All 768MB ran faultlessly.
