[AMD] 3000+ Barton and wire trick

Does anyone know why the 2800+Barton with the wire trick worked for the 200FSB but the 3000+Barton doesn't? I tried with the 3000+ and it won't go to the 200FSB. I then tried the 2800+Barton again and it works. What is with this 3000+? I figured that if I took the 2800+ to a 3200+ then I could really get the 3000+ OCed. Did they do something to the 3000+ so that it wouldn't work?

At least I have a system that is running. I ought to be thankful for that. I have the 2800+333MHz and 2x512mb of Kingston 333MHz memory and an old P3 800MHz w/ 512mb. system. All I need is another socket A motherboard and with the parts from the P3 I will have another good system. The P2 is still running and is maxed out. It can't be upgraded any more. So I'll build another AMD system that will run just as well as this one. PLUS I'll start folding with that one also.

you will still get a faster pc with it at a higher fsb than the 166 it is at by default
much better memmory bandwidth,but its up to you as it would not be slow now
and to a large degree only benchmarks would be really able to tell

hi everyone, ı think ı need some help. I install Windows Xp with SP1 and ı downladed and installed the nforce drivers (5.10 version) from NVidia's site not MSI's. C'n'Q function is enabled in the bios, I install AMD's latest XP driver and set"minimum power consumption" from power options. And finally ı install CoreCenter. My question and problem is; Cooling function i think works (as ı see from CoreCenter and windows) temps go up and down but Quiet (fan speed) function [I mean CPU (~3183 rpm) an NB (~5113 rpm) fan speeds always go up of their full limits] only works when I enable the C'n'Q option in CoreCenter; the program is not adjust fan speeds automatically for lower noice, I have to enable C'n'Q option in CoreCenter every time ı restart my system.What's wrong? MSI's nforce drivers and C'n'Q ı think works before I format the system. Please Help

When you are using CnQ the system will automatically reduce fan speed (at least it should) when it is in the reduced operating mode. Your core clock goes down and your effective speed (MHz) also goes down when you are surfing or doing non-demanding tasks. If you start playing games or doing anything cpu intensive the system should revert to it's highest setting which includes the fans on high speed. If you are getting abnormal behavior with Core Center you can refer to the many posts on that subject. Core Center has many bugs and Known Problems. Most people including myself chose to use other software for this purpose. If it works for you, go for it.

What bios version? I guess the early bios version reports the temp incorrectly.

Cant find driver for graphics AMD Radeon 6600M and 6700M series / Intel(R) Graphics 3000

my graphic drivers doesnt work so my screen in stretched and wide then the usual. My hp assitant recommades the following two graphics drivers

Wire tricking the thrbrd xp to unlock multipliers

on most msi mother boards a new xp thrbrd,not the older palaminos
[if the core of your cpu is a rectangle its a thrbrd
if its a square then its a palamino and this does not work with them

that has a default multiplier of 13 or over are not unlocked,try to change the multipler and it will not boot you will need to clear the cmos

you can get around this with the WIRE TRICK
Just take a small peice of wire and connect the 2 pins that go in these holes.
AND BY THIN I MEAN ONE STRAND OF WIRE FROM SAY A SPEAKER LEAD
when fitting the cpu take care and do not force it
you will now be able to select multipliers up to 12.5
warning if you select 13 or more it will not boot ok,you have been warned
an if you mess it up dont come crying to msi or me
as an alternative you can give this lot 15 dollars but it just does the same thing

Does wire trick work on Palomino?

Hi, Please check what I have in my sig below. I guess I'm not sure what else I can do with my palomino. Will I benefit from doing the wire trick? I can set my fsb to 140-141 and get ~1.8GHz, multipier auto, but anything above that and it just doesn't POST. Should I think about selling my chip and getting a T-bred B or a Barton? I read about a Barton being bumped up 500MHz. Or should I just wait until November when DOOM 3 comes out and the new athlon 64's.

Hi all, (sorry for the lengthy post)
Ive recently built a new system based on the K7N2 DELTA ILSR, great mobo, however my cpu temps are extremely high! on idle 48C and on load nearly 60C. the mobo temp hits approx 40c on load and 34 on idle.
I had an issue with cooling as the cpu heat diode would freeze my pc as it was hitting temps of 58c on idle. i was using the coolermaster aero 7+.... no good at all!!!!! even when on full rpm. Now im using a vantec 80mm fan on a Thermalright SLK-800A. much improved, however still extremely hot.
after reading this review (section headed: Heat Dissipation: Thermal Conditions and S2K Bus Disconnect) :

Sorry about the long reply!!! the first thing i would like to say is why does this happen at 58C even with the bios temp settings diabled??? pehapes MSI could Answer this?
I have spent countless hours trying to fix this problem and a lot of £££. A bit of background to me I am a design engineer and i like my PC to work well. I have the following main components
xp3200+ based system (Max die 85C)
with dual 512ddr sticks running at 400mhz
Matrox Parphilia
10K SATA hard disk
7,200 133ATA hard drive
Plus motherboard Nvidia chipset
these all kick out a lot of heat the (CPU contributing 76.8w).
first i started out with a very cheap case and standard amd heatsink. I found after about 5 minutes my pc kept crashing i automatically thought that it was probably the case temperature so monitored this found every time cpu reached 58C it crashed on the dot. The only conclusion i can draw from this that this MB has some thermal protection that can not be switched off but i am guessing perhapes MSI would like to answer this.
I quickly decided as an engineer that the best thing would be to go and buy a aluminuim case with lots of case fans (Basically a big heatsink itself). After a lot of searching i settled for a Coolermaster ATC110. It has four case fans all run at full speed all the time. Now this stoped the crashing problem it only now crashes if i put it under continous loading. Then i went out and bought a new cpu heatsink to replace the amd standard one. This had a minor effect on cpu temp but again under high loads the system crashed at 58C. Obvoiusly as an engineer i satred to think that the amount of noise the system with all its fans going at max is like being put in a wind tunnel.
I then turned to looking at the thermal diserpation requiremnts of all the bits in my system. I worked out that i need to disserpate 281Wmax of heat with my current setup. The kind of heat a small electric fire produces!!!. I begun to wounder if i could shift enough air through the two exhaust fans at the rooms ambient temp to do this. After some calculations I found that my case exhaust case fans are only just surfficent to disspate this amount. Which could explain this the crashing. because the higher the case temp the lower the capability of the heatsinks to conduct heat away from the item.
In the end i gave up with active cooling methods (heatsinks and fans) and realised my only option was to go for external cooling. I now have the system setup with a koolance exos cooling both hardisks graphics card cpu and MBchipset. I know this is very extreme but the case fan noise got to me now i have disconected all case fans except for the ones in my thermaltake power supply which are virtually silent. After about 12 evenings of testing and installation I now have a system which is not only stable but the CPU temp is only 32C.
Obvoiusly getting the heat out of the case is a good idea. The Exos is only running at it's lowest setting which means the fans arnt making any noticable noise.
MOST IMPORTANTLY IT DOES NOT CRASH ANY MORE. AND THERE IS THE PSSIBILTY OF OVERCLOCKING.
The question still remains though why 58C?

just wanted to know if anyone has an msi main board kt4v 6712 and is using an amd athlon barton 3000+ and ifyou are having any problems with it and if it works with that board the updage for the bios says it does

AMD 3000+ cannot set the fsb in order to boot

My system below worked fine with an AMD 2100 chip. I recently bought a 3000+ chip and slotted in to my PC - all booted up fine. I then changed the FSB within bios to 166 - and then rebooted - the machine didn't boot and I had to clear the CMOS.
I worked out that I cannot set the fsb to anything above 139 fsb else the machine won't boot and I have to reclear the CMOS...I have no idea what to do
Anyone got any ideas pleaaaaseee?????
btw I took the cpu down to the dealer and it worked fine there.

but before I give you my system spec - I stuck in a 550W power supply and all is fine.
However when I clock it up to 166 system crashes - better ram needed I guess.
But FSb at 160 is fine....
Considering its warm weather at the mo - my machie hits around 50 -55 degrees when playing something like fs2004.

i did it, but don't know if it work!
also i have the insane Thermalright SLK800 on my k7t266 pro2!
temps drops from 45 c to 37 c (idle temps)!
load is 42 c!
cpu is still using 141 FSB and the multiplier is set to 'auto'
cpu speed at 1700mhz.
last night i did this (after the wire trick):
i chose FSB 133 and a multiplier of 14.
system can boot,but WITHOUT the GF4 Ti!
no screen activities!
i reset the BIOS, everything worked again.
please tell me how do i change the multiplier?

via doesn't have the agp/pci lock!!! not to sure about your board but i would imagine it has the 1/5 divider in it!! so at 166 everything is in spec. how high can you put the fsb before the 1/5 is no more?? i have know idea
i read a few reports about the kt3 ultra 1/5 is good till 200fsb...if that is true i wouldn't think the kt400 would be any different. but i don't know if that is true or not about the 1/5 still in at 200fsb
and also their isn't a program out there where you can force a agp/pci lock...powersrtrip is a videocard utility for overclocking your vidcard and tweaking driver settings etc.

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

Wire trick didn't work

Hello all.
I am having a problem. I can't get the computer to post any time I changed the muliplier to increase the fsb. I did the wire trick and it seems as if nothing has changed. It IS possible that the wire broke when I pushed the CPU in the socket, but I don't think it did. My "stock" mulitplier should be gone once the trick is applied, right?
For example, I tried to run at 166fsb and 12x multiplier- no dice...

well first of all which wire trick?.wrapping the pins or
u wire pushed in zif soket?........will the system post up when cmos has been cleared?....if so go into bios and check mhz.........should be 1995 at default settings.....if it shows this.........then you did not unlock it correctly......by default the cpu will go back to H/W..and if unlocked correctly the system will be showing about 600 mhz or so.....clearly using the 6 x multiplier........

3000+ Barton running at 1.3Ghz

I have just got a 3000+ Barton FSB 333, but when i change the bios to 166 Mhz i get no picture on the screen and have to revert to 100 Mhz. Is my power supply to low, i think its 250W max output, but i do have a 300w Max output if needed.

Either power supply won't do it no 300watt power supply has enough juice to power a modern system these days the bare min wattage you want to start at is 350 even then you'll get a bunch of stinkers do as Fredrick says look at the +3.3v, +5v, and +12V amp ratings the +12V needs to be 18A a rule of thumb if you don't know what company made the power supply or the company doesn't sound familar then it's probably a dead weight while name brand power supplies tend to be slight ly more expensive those extra bucks will be made up in the extra quality, and the amount of power it produces.
