AMD 64 X2 3800+ and K8N Diamond

Hi,
has anybody tried this combination of CPU and MB?
On the CPU Support Page of this MB is written, that this CPU is still under testing, but I would like to buy this combination in a short time...does it work fine (with latest BIOS, of course) or is there any problems with it?
Thank you for any post, that will help me...

, is all this Noe Platinum stuff
i got a K8N Diamond , and i've seen peple say that the Neo Platinum is untoched by it?
is this true, if so,  how  and why?

    hahahahahahaha!
difference is just that the Diamond comes with a Wifi 802.11G card w/ Bluetooth. in some regions (like where im from), the Diamond also has an actively cooled heatpipe for the mosfets. the SLI Platinum doesnt.
i have however seen a review of an SLI Platinum with actively cooled heatpipe so it really depends on the region. its the Wifi + Bluetooth card that is the main difference afaik
also, you are a member of the Diamond club and get this nifty little credit card type thingy which you can use to join MSI's online Diamond club.
does that answer your question? please dont swear at me!

    garfildd,
You also get two PCI-E Slots that will both run at 16X at the same time, even though no Vid Cards out there can use the extra Bandwidth.

  • BIOS Update on K8N Diamond (not plus)

    Hi,
I've been told that to use an AMD X2 in my K8N Diamond I'll have to update BIOS. I've read people's instructions on winflash but I can't find a BIOS update in a .bin format, only in a .exe format. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks!

Owwww ..... well, like I said: no matter what, it's your own risk.
The way I see it: flashing in DOS-mode, using a bootable floppy with your flashing utility and BIO-ROM on CD or HDD is the safest way. As long as you flash in Windows, there are all kind of programs that can interfere with the flashing process. In DOS, all these background programs/services simply aren't there.
But: if other mods on this forum advice to use winflash, it must be safe, otherwise they wouldn't.  (It's only my second day as a mod around here, so I've still got to do some reading. Right now, my advice comes from experience on the Dutch MSI-forum. I just have to read through some house-rules here ...  )

    Help!
I have a K8N Neo4 Platinum (PCB 1.0) and it had an AMD 64 3200+ single core CPU.

It's listed as supported on the MSI website but has nayone else got both cores running on it?
    Hitch.
    Yes it does support X2
Did you clear cmos with power cable disconnected from psu?

I'm tired of not being able to play my games b/c of this. The heatsink on the CPU is stock. Also on the graphics card. Temps never reach above 47C on the processor and 65C on the GFX card. What PSU are you using ? Can you list the power output ? (writen on side of psu)
Going from your specs you listed your graphics card is very hungery on power so I would suggest your psu isn't up to the job under load.
Post the spec and we will know for sure.

  • K8N Diamond Plus, SLI and Creative X-Fi cards, anyone running similar?

    Hi there!
I've got an ASUS A8N32-SLI board and my X-Fi card does not work with it, nor does it for many other people with similar setups.
    See here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=31426
    and here:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=26289
I get crackling and popping noises when running most games, e.g. BF2, Fear, FarCry.  When my 2x7800GTX's are in SLI mode it crackles loads, e.g. start far cry, click options, and listen.  When i disable SLI mode it crackles less, but it still crackles.  Many others encounter similar issues with their systems that are not identical but the symptoms are similar - high load = crackling/popping.
    My question is:
Is anyone here sucessfully running any X-Fi card (music, fatality, elite pro, etc) with 2x video cards and NO crackling/popping in BF2, FEAR and FarCry?
I've already had a replacement X-Fi card from creative which their tech guy said "should" fix it, lol, I'm wondering wether to replace my A8N32-SLI with an K8N Diamond Plus to fix the problem.  Besides, the MSI board has better PCI slot location and works with nTune too unlike the ASUS board.

    What's going on guys.
I hate to see peep's having soooo many prob's and it sucks major BALLZ. The reason why I'm reposting is that I encountered a new issue. Not with my rig, but a friend's.
We pretty much have the same setup. Differences are he's using 2GB of Corsair DDR400 (which is picking up as DDR333 as well), different branded video cards (I'm running two EVGA 7800GT's in SLi, he's running two BFG 7800GT's in SLi), XFi Platinum (me, Fatality Edition) and he's got a dedicated ITE RAID PCI card for his RAID from his previous rig. Configured his BIOS pretty much the same way I have it running (he wanted to Overclock his AMD x2 4400+ to 2.6 GHz), but when it came to installing Windows we kept getting BSOD's during installation. Looked over things numerous times and it didn't make sense. We resetted the BIOS to default settings and Windows went through without a hitch. We tried OC'ing it one more time and Windows was fine. But, when he installed and ran Quake 4, either Windows or the game would just lock up. He booted back into the BIOS and put the CPU back at stock frequency of 2.2 GHz. Game ran flawlessly afterwards. That points at the processor. The only differences were we both have different stock fans and his CPU was manufactured in July '05. Mine in Sept '05. His rig also reports the infamous "Phantom" PCI modem as well.
Quake 4 is the only game he's got installed so far, but he reports everything is set to their highest qualities, including resolution. He said it runs great with no anomalies. He's going to install Dawn of War and Winter Assault later I know.
Me? I haven't run into any issues with any games either, including F.E.A.R. as Hydrasworld asked. Both of our sound cards are in the Communication PCI Slot of the motherboard. My take on the OC issue is since we're using different proc's from different wafers, maybe my chip had revisions in September that the July proc my friend has didn't. Also, his heatsink has one less copper pipe I noticed. I'll still drop by for help. Good luck to you all and the only other thing I can add is try using the latest drivers for each piece of hardware you've got.
    LPB
P.S. If you can and you purchased a retail version of the processor, on one of the sides of the carton insert for the processor, a date should be printed. Maybe that can explain some issues. Once more, my proc was manufactured September 15th, 2005.

  • MSI K8N Diamond + AMD 4800X2, stock bios version

    Greetings ppl
Does anyone know if the MSI K8N Diamond SLI mobo comes with an updated bios version in order to support amd x2 cpus? I'm ordering one in the next days
And on another matter, will two Corsair XMS 1G DDR400 (latency:3-3-3-8) work with this mobo?
    Thnx in advance

Quote from: knusite on 23-September-05, 14:36:46
It did not come with compability in my case, I bought my MB in Norway. I assembled everything and booted up. The POST screen told me that I had an Athlon processor but the model number was unknown. However I was able to flash my BIOS using a Win98 boot disk and the latest BIOS from MSI (just follow the instructions included in the BIOS release). Notice that I did the flashing before installing anything on the computer.
In short you should have no problems flashing the BIOS, and thus making the MB recognize the Athlon 64 X2 CPU.
The only way is to updates the latest BIOS 1.9 in order to make it recognised for your mobo.

It's depends actually cos sometimes the BIOS is old type and if you're lucky you'll get the new version of the BIOS. That RAM's it works for the mobo. So good luck.

  • K8N Diamond and NO POST

I have a big problem with my new K8N Diamond, it will not go to POST. No beeps no nothing.

    I have tried the following:
    - Removed all power consumption like fans and IDE units with only CPU and PCI-E connected
    - Removed the MB from the chassi and put it on cardboard with only CPU and PCI-E card on power
    - Removed one memory stick
    - Tried with second memory stick in different position
Nothing happens.  The fans are spinning on the CPU but no POST. I though it was lack of power so I bought
the Tagan PSU which was the biggest I could find, but it did not help.
Is there problems with the BIOS and FX-55 that I should know about? Or is it the MB that could be dead?
Hope someone could help me. I did not miss the 4-pin connector for power the CPU.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hello,
I also had a K8N Diamond board with the same problems you are listing here.
In the end, I had to get it exchanged by another one. The one I got then
was the K8N SLI Platinum (also MS-7100 Ver. 1.0)
It has most of the features included on the K8N Diamond, except the following:
Sillicon Image SiL Serial ATA Controller Chip and SATA ports 5 and 6 : Gone.
Marvell Yukon LAN Controller Chip and Second RJ-45 Ethernet port  : Gone.
Voltage Regulartor Active MOS Fan : Gone.
IEEE 1394 Firewire Bracket            : Gone.
K8N "Diamond" Full Screen Logo     : Replaced by K8N SLI "Platinum" Full Screen Logo.
About all other features included in the K8N Diamond mainboard (MS-7100, Ver. 1.0)
Active MOS Fan Connector                      : Still there and functional. You can plug a compatible fan there, to cool down the Voltage Regulator, if you want.
Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit            : Yes, and complete with all audio ports, including Optical and Coaxial plugs for 7.1 Ch audio.
Back I/O IEEE 1394 FireWire Port             : Yes
On Board IEEE 1394 FireWire Connectors  : Yes
    D-Bracket 2                                           : Included in the box.
10 USB 2.0 Ports                                   : Yes. 4 on back I/O, 2 on D-Bracket 2, 2 for Case USB 2.0 Ports, 2 for internal use or additional back USB 2.0 bracket.
which can be an MSI USB 2.0 Bracket, a Modified MSI D-Bracket 2, or a USB 2.0 bracket, from Belkin or any other
brand, or a generic USB 2.0 Certified bracket.
Everything else is on this board, is exactly the same as with the MSI K8N Diamond. My advice for you is to get your MSI K8N Diamond exchanged by an MSI K8N SLI Platinum. Beleive me, this board doesn't have the problems most K8N Diamond users are having, and for me who once had the K8N Diamond mainboard, it is the best alternative comming from MSI. It's the same model, but without the extras I mentioned above.
    I highly recomend this one

  • Anoying issue with K8N Diamond PLUS and overclocking.

I just got the motherboard wehn i overclock and restart the PC either from windows or BIOS etc. The PC will not boot and have to turn it off then turn back on. Apart from this annoying issue it's a great board better theen my A8N SLi Premium mostly due to the extra CPU voltage yay :D Is anyone else getting this issue?
    System spcs are
    AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ @ 2766MHz (1.6v)
    2GB Crucial Tracer PC4000
    2x DELL Slient Geforce 7800GTX 256MB card
Espison 700w SLi cert PSU with EPS CPU voltage connected
    Koolance EXOS AI Watercooling
    MSi K8N Diamond PLUS
    2x 150GB Raptor X in RAID-0
    Coolermaser RC-830 w/ 4x 140mm + 3x 120mm fans

thats funny mine did that when i first got it , but when i received my new memory and video card everything was normal...so i dont remember if it was the memory or the VC..i just totally forgot about it..funny though i thought it was only me

  • MSI K8N Diamond is AMD X2 Compatible?

    Hi,
As you will have gathered, I am enquiring about if the MSI K8N Diamond supports AMD dual core CPU's?
    Thanks!

Make sure that if you manually flashed your BIOS, reboot a couple of times in different manner so that the motherboard properly detects your dualcore configuration.
I do not know if this happens to Diamond range but it does happen on mine whereby sometimes at different startup methods (for the BIOS of course) it only detects one CPU even though it says on the CPU ID that its X2 (obviously dualcore). Refer to my sig if you don't know about my motherboard

    https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/olh_adp.php?p_faqid=1062&p_sid=3mOkRPXh&p_lva=#
The Solution 1: I reformated the hard drive severals times and the same result :(
The Solution 2: I have de newer official bios 1.7
The Solution 3. I have formateated with ntfs
I don´t know how resolve this problem, thanks for your time reading my post and sorry for my bad grammar.
    See You!

On K8N Diamond the Sil3132 is a Raid5 controller. You can only install Raid5 driver (SataLink and SataRaid drivers don't work, only SataRaid5).
Use the latest driver version 1.2.3.1. You can download it from MSI.
If you don't use Raid, then you must go into the Silicon Image bios setup utility (CTRL+S or F4, when displayed) and set for each drive a JBOD array (Create Array -> JBOD).
(On newer bios JBOD has changed to CONCATENATION.)
