At first i used a Duron 1200 and run fine, but not fast enough.  I bought myself an Athlon XP 2000+ that came from an other fine running machine.  I've updated my bios so it would support that processor.  I've installed the 2000+.  I set my fsb to 133.  The motheboard boots.  While WinXP starts i get an Bluescreen, not a defined error, just an 'error' (micersooooft...).  Even when i try to install WinXP, i get errors (bluescreens)  When i manually set the fsb to 133 and my multiplyer to 12.5 (to get the 1667 for 2000+) the motherboard doesn't even boot.
this is a generated html page of my system.

Plz suggestions ? i just want the 1667 run like it should be.

Too much APIC, but many suggests this idea:

    Are your temps high?

  • Please help AMD ATHLON XP W/ KT4 MS6590 CANNOT INSTALL WINDOWS 98/ME/X

    Hello all
I just built my system 2 days ago and I still cannot install any version of windows. everytime I try to install windows 98/ME or Xp I get errors. The computer boots fine and doesnt freeze up or anything like that and i changed the FSb to 133mhz so it registers as AMD ATHLON XP 2000.
    my system is as follows
KT4 MS6590 (the version that comes w/ the 5.1 dolby digital bracket.
    AMD ATHLON XP 2000
256 MB DDR pc 2700 ram
    48x CD rom
ATI RAdeon 9000 128 MB Oem video card
    Enermax CS3051L alum/acrylic 350watt neon case
    15 gb maxtor HDD
I am using an old hard drive but it works fine in the other p3 system.
My case is one of those designer enermax ones that have the blue neon installed inside
Includeing the cpu fan I have got 4 installed all together.
I am useing the optimal settings
I have no clue what to do next.
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks for replying.
I tried for 2 days with default settings and all the different types of settings i can think of in the bios.
Finally i disabled all the caching options , disabled apic and windows xp was able to install but took me almost 4 hours to install :( .
the problem is i think i have bad RAMS I also changed the ram which is pc 2700 ddr from 333 mhz to 266 mhz. Before i was getting some module erros as well as some setup errors. I read that bad rams can cause these erros.
I would like to know my 256 MB pc 2700 DDR running at 266 mhz . how much percentage of system speed am I loseing?
Also is flashing the bios from diskette a bad thing and can ruin the board and also regarding the beta bios . has there been any mishaps from anyone using it.
I like this motherboard but i got to admit its a pain in the ass. esp with all the configurations there is to do. some of them i am not even too sure if i should be using them or not. I am also afraid to touch them bc my system might become unstable and unreliable.
also is there an led on the motherboard for the kt4 ms 6590 I dont see any. This is my first time building a system and setting it up myself.  so any help is appreciated

  • Help... my KM4M-L displays Athlon Xp 2000+ as AMD Mobile Athlon 800

    Hi guys,
I'm using the motherboard KM4M-L (MS-6734) with CPU Athlon XP 2000+ but it always displays my CPU as AMD Mobile Athlon 800 MHz even though I've already set the jumpers for cpu speed to 133. When I tested setting the cpu speed to 100 it showed my cpu as AMD Mobile Athlon 600 MHz so I assum that the multiplier has been set to 6 from the factory. But wait... it doesn't have the jumpers for setting multiplier! Or the motherboard sets multiplier automatically? What's wrong with my motherboard or cpu? (I'm sure my cpu is Athlon XP 2000+, I've checked by installed it to my friend's machine and that machine displayed the cpu correctly). Could anyone pls help?

I concur with Nick. I'm also running the KM4M-L with a 2500+ (pre-week 3/39 unlocked) and there's no way to set multi or FSB in the BIOS.
I've blown the 3rd and 5th L3 bridges on the chip which gives it a default multi of 13 instead of 11. Not much of an overclock, but 2.16Ghz (instead of 1.83Ghz) is about the best I'd expect from default vCore.
Also, just to point out, the Mobile chips (at least in the case of my 2400+) default to the 6x multi, even in my NF7-S 2.0 board. I believe due to the PowerNow technology, they are set to start out at a minimum of 6x multi and can throttle up to as high as 13.5 depending on temp and power settings. (ie. remaining battery life)

  • Overclock AMD Athlon II X2 250 on MSI 760GM-P21 (FX)

I want to overclock AMD Athlon II X2 250 on motherboard MSI 760GM-P21 (FX), integrated video card from motherboard and MS-TECH VERTIGO 520W 80+ power supply.
But before buy this power supply I had a NoName 400w.
And when I oc on NoName PSU after 3,3 ghz I receive BSOD.
How to oc more than 3,3 ?
    Ty.

The CPU itself would work just fine up till the current draw exceeds the limit of CPU VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) and fry it. Even tho it's listed as supported don't use CPU over 95W and even then under heavy loads for longer periods of time a 95W CPU could possibly cause damage also. If using a 95W don't OC it any. The VRM on the 760GM was never intended for 125W CPU.
The only reason the 125W CPU is listed is because competing brands show support for them and MSI made the wrong decision to list them also just for competitive marketing purposes.

  • !!!!!I CAN'T OVERCLOCK MY CPU. BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE MY AMD ATHLON XP-MOBILE

    My configuration is this:
    Mainboard: MSI K7N2-DELTA2-FSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP-Mobile 2500+ 1855MHZ
    Video Card: CAPTIVA Nvidia 6600GT 128MB 128bit
Hard disk: Internal Maxtor DiamonMax 10 300GB S-ATA 16MB Buffer
Audio Card: Sound Blaster Audigy Live 5.1 24bit
    Power Supply: 400WATT
    DVD drive: LG 16X
SO I OVERCLOCK MY CPU UNTIL 3200+ (2200mhz), AND IF I WANT TO OVERCLOCK MORE DURING "POST", BIOS DOESN'T RECOGNIZE THE NEW VALUE (ES: FSB 200  / X11.5  = 2300mhz . DOESN'T RECOGNIZE).
PLEASE HELP ME OR CAN YOU TELL ME HOW CAN I RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM???
    THANKS A LOT. BYE

Please furnish us some more info concerning the memory you are using and power output of the 3.3v - 5v -12v rails of your power supply along with the name of its manufacturer.
Some mobile cpus start up with a lower multiplier and then go to the bios to use the preset settings in the bios.  If the cpu can't start with the bios settings, it remains at its start up values.  Your mobile may not be able to run at a multiplier of 11.5 with a 200fsb.  Drop its fsb back to 166 (stock fsb 133) and see if you can run it at its rated multiplier of 14.  That will equal 2324mhz.
Overclocking is finding a balance between the fsb and the multiplier that allows you to get the most stable speed out of the cpu.
You also have not mentioned what vcore voltage that you are using or the temps.
The memory that I'm using are : V-Data 512x2 MB DDR CL 2,5
    The power supply is 400watt chassis, 3,3V, 12V, 5V.
I tell you that with the mainboard ASUS I did't have this problem with the multiplier because I put 11.5 x 200Fsb.

  • Motherboard for AMD Athlon Mobile

Which msi motherboards work best with amd mobile cpus ? I have an AMD Athlon 1500+ left from my broken laptop and was wondering if i could use it.

k7n2 works but it over volts it alittle.
some people get the mobile for the k7n2 to be able to overclock REAL hard.
heard of people reaching 2.7ghz on air cooling with a mobile.
but that was with 2500+ mobile

  • Very slow performance AMD athlon processor

    Hi,
I'm working on Windows 2000 environment with an AMD athlon +3000 processor, and 1.5GB RAM.
I just installed VMware 5.0 and Linux AS 3. As soon as I rebooted the virtual machine and after having installed Linux, the guest OS (Linux) performance is very very poor.
Do you have any suggestion about how to solve this issue?
    Thanks
    Gilson Sirvas

Where does the Oracle software come into the picture? If this is a generic vmware issue please post on VMware's community forums..
    http://www.vmware.com/community/
that will be much more effective.
In general defragmenting the HD is very helpful, also allocating more memory to the Guest OS will make things run faster. look in the vmware.log make sure IO is not taking too long, look for things like:
    Jun 12 04:24:11: vmx| SCSI0:0: Command WRITE(10) took 7.347 seconds (ok)
that means that a single IO took 7 seconds, that's very very slow.. move the VM to a faster (internal) HD.. Finally check with vmware, there might be an issue with the AMD processor, not sure...
If you figure it out and the solution is interesting, please take the time and post here so that others can benefit.
    good luck,
    Saar.

  • KT4V and AMD Athlon Xp 2400+

Ive got a KT4V motherboard with a Geforce MX 440 Graphics card, 512DDR PC2100 Ram and an AMD Athlon Xp 2400+ Cpu. I was wondering wether anyone could tell me anything i could do to make my system run that bit faster without overclocking.
Im gonna get a new case soon with a better power supply and cooling so im glad to hear any suggestion for overclockin as well. Its not gonna be watercooled or anything like that so i cant go extreme with the fsb and stuff.

problem is your ram, your best o/c is lower multiplier, read the wire trick thread as you need that and then run it at 166 fsb or a bit more
but chances are at 166 your rams not going to boot being only pc 2100
so leave it be as far as multiplier and raise fsb a bit at a time
due to the multiplier bit your chipset uses at around mid 140 fsb it will not boot as agp and pci will be out of specs to much

  • K7N2G-L hangs on AMD Athlon 2600+

I have just bought the following hardware :
       . K7N2G-L
       . AMD Athlon XP 2600+ FSB 333
       . 2 x 512 MB Memory DDR 400 PC 3200 (don't know the brand)
       . ISO Power Supply 300 W
       . DVD-ROM Drive LG
. Hard Drive Seagate 7200 RPM 120 GB
When I have installed WIN XP, after rebooting I noticed it was indicating Processor Clock at 1.24 GHz. I have then checked and confirmed this at BIOS. Have changed FSB speed on BIOS, from 100 MHz (default) to 166 MHz, and confirmed that now the processor clock was being recognized as a 2600+ one, with 2083 Mhz clock. But when I proceeded with WIN XP it always hangs on very start of it, at a blue screen.
I have formatted the HDD and tried to install WIN 98, WIN ME, WIN 2000, and all gave me the same blue crash at the installation phase. Then I realize that if lowering the FSB parameter on BIOS (less than 166 MHz), the system ran fine, allowing me to install any OS.
What is happening ? This board's specs accepts such a Processor. Is this board deffective ? I bought it just a week ago. Very frustrated. Please, kindly answer.

    Thank you for reply.
I have a more accurate info on my hardware :
. Power Supply is not only 300 W. Instead, it is a model ISO-500D, stating on
          the label a 420 W
. The memory brand is ELIXIR, and I have checked on their website about
compatibility with various mobo, but I can not found MSI K7N2G on the list.
Could you please verify at http://www.elixir-memory.com/, on the
          Compatibility Information link ? Tks.

  • Help! amd athlon xp 2600

hello,i have a kt2 combo-L mainboard.. and a amd athlon xp 2600, but it`s been called xp 2000! Why? i can only set the fsb to 133.. dosent my mainboard suport the cpu?

Use the pinmod to force the processor use a specified FSB (or multiplier
    pinmod guide;  http://www.ocinside.de/go_e.html?/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html
Use the socket view and the small "hair" of a stripped computer molex wire or similar to short circuit the required pins on the socket.

    using kt4avl mobo w/amd athlon xp 2500+ barton....problems oc'ing

Sorry if I'm posting in the "wrong" section - maybe you could tell me where I should post instead?
With a 333mhz max fsb board like the kt4avl, what should I be able to change to overclock, then?  When I up the cpu freq from the default 166 to even as high as 180, it won't post...let alone 200 like I hear people do.  What you're saying about the bios reading what's hard-coded into the chip during post makes me go 'hmmm', because if I set the freq down to the bios default of 100, the post reads the cpu as a 1900+.
I tried poking around on the internet for specs on successive xp chips, like the 2600+ and the 2800+.  My chip, being the 2500+ which runs at 1.833ghz, has a multiplier of 11 with a freq of 166.  Whereas,I found some doc on the other chips having multipliers of like 12.5 or 13.5, something like that - when I tried manipulating the multiplier higher than the stock 11, it posts, but it didn't change my operating frequency any when I viewed it from within Windows (system properties view in Windows tells you how fast your cpu is operating), but that did increase when I was manipulating the cpu frequency in the bios earlier (it's just that it 'hit the wall' at about 175mhz and wouldn't post with anything above that, even when increasing the cpu voltage to 1.7 or 1.75).
Can someone suggest what they might try, given these symptoms?

  • AMD Athlon XP 2800 (Barton Core) will not post at FSB 166 MHz.

Per top of the board “stickys” I have read a great number of the post on this board and done my homework to provide as much technical info to help you help me. This should explain some of it’s lengthy nature.
Aside from Memory, HDD and Video card every thing else has been unplugged from board and power or stripped out of slots to isolate the problem.

BIOS I have tried: The original; Ver:10A, ran fine on Athlon XP 1600 (1400 MP) 3 years.

    - Supports Sempron L2 512K 3000+ CPU.)
However, v. 1.c did not work and would not post at all with the newly installed Barton AMD-XP 2800. [frankly this attempt was months ago and I do not remember whether it would post at the slower 100 and 133 FSB speeds, and also to muddle my memory further I was upgrading an A7N8X-D with a Barton XP 3000 and having similar problems on the ASUS,,, which is now running fine at full potential. ; - p
    •   Then I selected and flashed A6712 V 1.7 122602, boots and runs Win.XP-sp2 at FSB 100MHz & 133MHZ.  (MSI:” Supports AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixes system sometimes will have IDE CRC error   -Fixes D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.)”    which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz.
I checked with the Tech. at the local shop where I purchased the KT4V MoBo. He suggested I try a different BIOS but he didn’t specify which one. He is a personal friend and admits to some bad luck and dead boards due to flashing bios so reluctant to mess with it.
    •   Now running:  A6712vms.1B0 – MSI hid this BIOS V. found here:
    •   http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=362&kind=1
    •    On a different page than the 2 versions mentioned above. http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp
    •    No wonder people are frustrated and confused about different MoBo versions there ID #’s and the BIOS versions them selves as seen on this news board. MSI’s fault, no fault of anyone here trying to help.
    A6712vms.1B0
Runs fine at FSB 100 (shows as XP 1250+) and FSB 133 (shows as XP 2200+) Booting to Win. XP-sp2 on CMOS, default setup other than minor tweaks to accommodate MSI Ti 4200 AGP 8X 125mb graphics card or Gilmond PCI card. But which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz .
No post at FSB 166 mhz (once, it did flash a post screen stating AMD Athlon XP 2800 for about 2 sec. before going blank) Manual power down. Just now I rebooted with FSB 166, and again saw the AMD Athlon XP 2800 at top of the post screen as I hit pause break,,,, then the machine power crashed to Off. Once it even loaded Win.XP-sp2 but crashed to power off with in 2 min.
I must have booted this beast a dozen times or more after Clear CMOS jumper each time it went to blank screen with mach. still running. Start over; set Default settings and work up with FSB 100, 133, each time to read what POST says and see if it will boot to O/S.
Btw: I have looked for clear evidence through the not so specific descriptions MSI uses to separate these board model #s and may be part of my current problem with correct board ID = correct BIOS ID.

    Eg: - KT4 Ultra (MS-6590), 6-channel hardware audio codec
       • KT4 Ultra (Pure Version)
       • KT4 Ultra-B (Bluetooth ready)
       • KT4 Ultra-BSR (Bluetooth ready + Serial ATA RAID)
       • KT4 Ultra-FISR (Bluetooth ready, Serial ATA RAID, Gigabit LAN, IEEE 1394)
    - KT4V (MS-6712), 6-channel software audio codec
       • KT4V-L, with onboard 10/100 LAN
    - KT4M (MS-6596) micro-ATX board
       • KT4M-L, with onboard 10/100 LAN
    - KT4A Ultra, (MS-6590) NEW!! based on KT400A chipset
       • KT4A Ultra (Standard Version)
       • KT4A Ultra-SR (Serial ATA RAID)
       • KT4A Ultra-FISR (Serial ATA RAID, Gigabit LAN, IEEE 1394)
And a very similar version of this on Official MSI site. Both seem to try and make a difference between modles with on board Lan, and Blue Tooth ready.
Take a look at my original box sticker:
*As seen on face of MoBo: KT4V MS-6712   Ver:10A
*The Original Box bar code label: KT4V-L (601-6712-050)
    K7, KT400. 5.1 chnl. S/W Audio, LAN, D-Bracket 2.
Yup, it says all this on the sticker and the in the manual and verified on the MoBo. So I can only guess at all parts of the puzzle as they gave them to me which lead me to the afore mention BIOS versions I ran, or am running. The sticker points to nearly half of the boards above except for the MS-6712 and the Ver:10a which is what I based my BIOS choices on. If someone knows differently and can lead me to official Nfo with a better answer I’m all ears.
    Just saw this: Latest Official BIOS : KT4 MS-6590 (1.4), KT4V  MS-6712 (1.8 ) , KT4M MS-6596 (1.1)>>Here: [VIA] unofficial FAQ for KT4 series motherboards

So if  (1.8) is the Latest Official BIOS for KT4V MS-6712  then what is this at the Official MSI SITE ?

Please also keep in mind I’m not trying to scuff anyone’s shoes…I just want to get what’s right for my board so that it and the CPU can live up to their full, "as advertised" potential and run with the other 3 big dogs under my desk.
This seems descriptive enough and rather lengthy. Just doing my homework and reporting my findings so I won’t include actual CMOS settings unless requested. I have notes on all settings I currently use to boot with this problem.
    Other Dogs:
ASUS A7N8X-D running Athlon XP 3000 barton core 10 (runs fsb 400..whoknew?), Mem:2.5gb Super Talent
ASUS A7M266-D running Athlon XP 2800 (mp), Mem: 3gb Super Talent
                                                   Athlon XP 2800 (mp)
I don’t want to boar you with the details.
Yes, and the above have been upgraded w/new chips GFX cards and BIOS,,, NP.
Cut to sound track: Down on the BIOS again,,, wasn’t that Creedance Clear Water Revival?
Any suggestions or insights are much appreciated.

Welcome, and thank you for a thorough input! Hope I don't miss something you already said!
Quick version: Try setting processor voltage to 1,5 volt.
    Long version:
Posting at wrong FSB can be put down to two things:
1 The processor isn't what you thought it is, but I think you eliminated that.
2 The system cannot run the processor at the correct speed. Mainly this has to with overheating, and/or that memory and processor cannot cooperate. This must be it, as you noticed the processor is correctly recognised.
You have little connected right? Then the best thing would be to pull power cable out. Take the motherboard and redo the seating of the processor, this is much better done with motherboard taken out.
At the same time, I suggest you clear CMOS. Should always be done when changing processor, and I've noticed on the Internet there are a few 1,5V XP2800 around.

  • K9N Neo-F and AMD Athlon X2 AM2 6000+ (125W)

    Hi Everyone!
I want to upgrade my PC, now I have:
    MSI K9N Neo-F motherboard
    S/N: 601-7260-010K0609058577
    MS-7260 ver. 1.0 K9N Neo nForce 550, AMD AM2
    CPU: AMD Athlon X2 AM2 3800+
    RAM: GoodRam 2x512MB (667) and 2x1GB (667)
    GPU: Zotac GF 8800GT
    Now I want to buy:
    CPU: AMD Athlon X2 AM2 6000+ (125W)
RAM: GeIL 2x2GB (800) Black Dragon II
My question is: can I use this new CPU on old motherboard?
    Have anyone similiar configuration?
In this topic: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108896.0 someone has the same motherboard and CPU, but talking abolut PSU...
    Waiting for help :-)

I was looking for a 125watt board too and its really hard to find one from MSI that have the things I want, I cant even find a board with Nvidia chipset, amd2+ and support a 125 watt processor (or not tested OK yet) or some boards without a cpu support list yet. So no AM2+ for you if you want a 125watt processor on it and a nvidia chipset. is there any reason why MSI cant fix 125watt support?
If you dont care about a future quadcores upgrade you can buy a old AM2 board, but dont forgot to look at the cpu support list, because the most AM2 boards doesnt support 125watt either.  ???

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.
