AMD Phenom II's and CS5 Premeire

I'm still using Premiere Pro 2 and I'm thinking of finally upgrading.  Now I know everyone recommends Core i7 systems, but the only reasons I've seen for these recommendations always seem to involve encode times.  I really don't mind waiting longer for things to render.  As long as playback and scrubbing is smooth while editing, and I can use at least 4 or 5 layers at once, that's all that matters to me.  So my question is this:  would a Phenom II 940 system with a gtx 260 using the hack to unlock the cuda acceleration run smoothly enough during the editing process in CS5?  Would it really be significantly worse than an i7 for scrubbing, playback and such?  Would CS4 be a better choice for me?  Also, my camera only shoots 1080i, so I wouldn't be editing 1080p footage.

AMD is a lousy choice for editing, because of the lack of SSE 4.1 extensions. It performs way slower than Intel.
Even dual hexa core Opteron on CS5 are around 3 times slower than a properly configured i7-920. And a Phenom 940 machine running CS4 is more than 20 times slower than an i7-920 running CS5.

  • 890FXA-GD65 with AMD Phenom II 1100T and Asus Radeon 6950 No Video Signal

I just did a new computer build with an MSI 890FXA-GD65 motherboard AMD Phenom II 1100T processor and Asus Radeon 6950 graphic card.
    I have a SATA hard drive and optical drive. Memory is Corsair XMS3 4GB PC10666 DDR3 1333MHz 4096MB.
When I turn the system on I have no video signal so I can't see bios. I tried taking everything apart and rebuilding and still nothing.
The power is on to the motherboard and graphic card. The motherboard has 2 LED indicators on.
I am a newbie with the new computer build and need some help. I accidentally pressed the clear CMOS while the power was on. I have no idea if this is going to mess up the motherboard.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Mike

I could not locate this on this specific motherboard. The one issue is that there is a CLR CMOS button on the back and I pressed this when power was on .
I know there is another way to clear the cmos with the jumpers but I didnt do that .
Anyway motherboard still powers up. I took it to a tech to check it out. Don't know anything as of yet. Thanks.

I am thinking about ordering a http://www.msi.com/product/mb/880GM-E41.html and a AMD phenom II 840(HDX840WFGMBOX) but the 880GM-E41 does not list it under supported cpus but since the 840 a propus die would it work ? will msi release a bios update for proper ID

I have the same CPU in my 890FX-GD70 board, and it works fine and is recognised correctly, despite also not being on the supported list for my board. Should also work in yours too.

I am afraid that is the full potential according to AMD for this nice CPU. What you intend to do is to unlock cores that were deliberately locked by AMD to ensure that you have the stable use of this nice CPU.
The potential instabilities that may result, far outnumber the probabilities that it will actually be successful. Count yourself very lucky if you do have success, otherwise be happy that you got a working Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition that you paid for.

  • Palm Z22, Vista, AMD Phenom X4, Asus will not sync

I have a Palm Z22 and a computer with an AMD Phenom X4 CPU, an Asus motherboard, and Vista.
Sync problems range from unrecognized device to no progress when HotSync tries to connect.
I have worked with Palm techs and with Microsoft and tried every trick I have read about including modifying the register.
My hardware vendor has also tried, including going back to XP with no luck on this hardware.
Has anyone had success connecting in this configuration?
    Post relates to: Palm Z22

I do not have bluetooth on either the PC or the Palm, but I have tried a USB to IrDA dongle.  No help, same result.
In my most recent attempt, the USB driver window in the lower right says the Palm driver is loaded.  I also have an entry in the USB window that says an unidentified device has been found.  Sometimes I get the window that says connecting.  Next, the Palm shows that the connection could not be established.
Just tried again to sync with the cable, and the USB window in the lower right reports that the device is not working correctly, replace the device.  As mentioned before, the Palm works perfectly on my old XP based machine and on another Vista computer
The Desktop software from Access has a note that it will not work with multi-CPU machines; however, it also states that this does not apply to multi-core CPUs.
Is it possible that I am the only person using a multi-core CPU ?  Or maybe the AMD quad-core Phenom is seen as multiple CPUs. The speed advantage of this CPU and motherboard are why I selected this configuration.

  • Problem Rendering - After Effects CS4 and CS5

    Hello,
This problem happens on both my laptops, both of which are more than capable of running and rendering in after effects. When I render the video, it comes out verry choppy and slow. My specs are:
    Dell Studio XPS 1645
    Intel Core i7 820QM Quad Core @ 1.62 GHz
    ATi Mobility Radeon HD 5730
    8GB of DDR3 RAM
    Dell XPS M1730
Intel Core 2 Duo Overclocked to 3.4GHz
    NVIDIA 8800M GTX in SLi
    8GB of DDR2 RAM
If the problem is with hardware, I'm going to have to wait for my new desktop in August.

I have this issue when I try to render a project and continue to do other work on my computer. It seems as you compete for CPU resources you do corrupt the rendered file. On my core i7 with 32gb of ram and 2 gforce gtx 480's hooked in an sli config, I dont have this problem since more resources are available than what my AMD Phenom II 980 with 16GB and no video card has.
Some of the effects and such are so cpu intensive that to get a good render you need to schedule the render before you leave the office, go to bed, etc. Basically, when you start the render, leave the computer alone and you will get a nice smooth file.
Also, I like to do my renders in Adobe Media Encoder.. you can import a project into it and allow this app to do the render.. seems to render faster than AE..
I know this what posted in October and I amreplying 5 months later but I figure this is good info for someone who finds this searching for a solution to the same problem.

  • Error message after installing an AMD Phenom II quad core processor

    1. HP Pavilion Slimline s5120y Desktop PC
    2. Windows 7 64-bit
    3. "Uncompatible processor installed, shutting down in a few seconds"
    4. I replaced  the AMD Athlon X2 7750 processor with an AMD Phenom II quad core processor
I had done some research on upgrading my son's computer's processor from an AMD Athlon X2 7750 processor to an AMD Phenom II quad core processor.  I checked the compatible processors on the HP website and it showed that  the AMD Phenom II quad core processor would be supported.  The specs for the Phenom II I bought are: 95 watt / 2.4 GHz / quad core / hyper transport technology / AM2+ socket / integrated DDR memory controller / HD9750XAJ4BGH.
After installing the processor (with thermal paste) I booted up the computer and the message:  "Uncompatible processor installed, shutting down in a few seconds" showed up.  I tried again and the same thing.  Is this processor NOT compatible with this computer or is something else going on?

Please discuss this under desktop catagory for better suggestions and quicker resolution. thank you

  • HP Pavilion g6 Notebook incompatible with AMD PHENOM II N660 processor

    Hello,
I am having a problem with upgrading my laptop's processor.
Product Name : HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC
    Product Number : QJ283EA#ABU
The processor I've bought is a AMD Phenom II N660 which is supposed to be compatible according to this pdf:
    http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770249.pdf
However when I took my laptop apart to place the new processor in, the processor socket didn't match the pins on the processor. Hope that made sense? I'm not an expert with computers, but have some knowledge about them.
What can I do? Is there anything I can do to fix this such as buying a new processor socket or is that something that can't be changed? From what I can tell the processor appears to be compatible according to the information on the pdf above, so shouldn't the pins be the same?
Thanks for reading and I hope someone knows how to help me!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

If the originally installed  CPU was of the AMD E-Series, then the system board accepts only BGA413 socket CPUs.
If the CPU was an A-series  AMD CPU, then the socket was FS1
The CPU that you bought is a Socket S1 (S1g4) type.
Upgrading the CPU does require a bit more than looking at the Maintenence & Service guide as a reference. The guide assumes that you have all of the perquisite knowlege. That is why tt is meant for HP Service Centers and technicians.

  • Pavilion a6700y with AMD Phenom X4 9150e -- Unclock to full speed

I have an HP Pavilion a6700y with 6GB DRAM running the AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad core processor.
The processor is "clocked down" to 2000 MHz by HP, but is capable of running at 3200 MHz. How do I increase the clock speed to 3200 MHz?
Do I need to add additional cooling capability? There is one fan on the power supply, another on the side of the case and a third on the processor itself.
What is the risk of unclocking a processor?

    Desert-Aries, welcome to the forum.

  • AMD Phenom Processor not supported by 2.0 beta

After trying out the slow and very bug ridden 2.0 beta on my old windows XP 32 bit version computer, we decided to try the 64 bit version on my new 64/128 bit computer under XP pro SP2. After a few seconds it decides the "processor is not supported".
This is a AMD Phenom processor with an AMD video card running parallel with the onboard video processor. It is reccommended by AMD for compatability on their website. I have 8 Gigs of ram installed. It should just fly, but won't even finish loading.
Has anyone else gotten this message? Will Adobe support the new AMD graphics processors and CPUs? I really do like some of the things lightroom can do but we need it to run fast and not crash, choke, ect.

Your processor is 64 bit but your OS, if it's XP Pro SP2, is not. You need the 32 bit version.

  • Help With Overclocking AMD Phenom II x6 1035t

Hello, I have recently ran into some problems when attempting to overclock my new(less than 5 days old setup).
The motherboard I had purchased comes with 2 switches called MSI Easy OC Switch. I have enabled both of these for a 20% Increase and booted up with several problems including a windows HDD Integrity check fail of some sort. I quickly worked through those problems with no real losses and continued with running a few stress tests with 20% enabled. I Blue Screened several times as well as having other memory errors from windows.
So, I decided to bump it down to 10% for a while and it was stable for the most part and ran without problems for a day or so until I started having BSoD's with that as well. My question would be if there is any way to overclock this setup while remaining safe and or stable for the most part. I have advanced bios functions for manual OC but I have yet to try them. So far from what I can tell the problems I am having would be related to the ram OC, I personally have heard the OC switch on the Motherboard not only increases FSB but also OC's RAM. If anyone has any suggestions or comments on how this may be resolved that would be great.
    My Build Specifications are below:
    Mobo: MSI 760gm e51
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1035t
    RAM: 2x 4GB Corsair XMS3 1333Mhz
Power Supply: DiabloTek Elite 450 Watt PSU

i m not sure that u can achieve some sort of voltage stability with this psu, i ll not give oc a try with such thing ;-)

  • Nvidia based board for AMD Phenom X4 9550

    Hi,
I want to build system for AMD Phenom X4 9550 ( or 9750)
I am thinking about this MSI board
    MSI K9N2GM-FD GeForce 8200 (MCP78S)
    This has
    - AM2+ support (required for Phenom)
    - DVI-D port
    - DDR2 800 support up to 8GB
    - NVIDIA chipset that probably has support for Linux and Solaris
What does it mean by HT3.0 (5200MT/s) when max RAM speed is 800?
    I want to put
    RAM : DDR2 800 4GB (2GB x 2 or 1GB x 4)
    LCD monitor : 22" (22" Viewable), 1680 x 1050 (Maximum Resolution)
there is K9N2GM-FIH but I really do not want HDMI (and buy HDMI-DVI converter).
    I do not need SLI.
I want best utilization of CPU power , RAM speed and disk IO speed.
there are lot of Motherboards supporting AM2+ cpus
    http://global.msi.com.tw/html/popup/MB/AM2/page_e.html
what would be best motherboard for me?
has anyone tried Linux and Solaris on K9N2GM-FD ?
    - Surinder

Also,  where do I get Thermal Design Power (TDP) information about MSI motherboards.
Your best guide there is to look at the CPU support list for the motherboard and look at the max TDP of the CPUs in the list. For example the one you are asking about shows 125W CPUs are supported.
You can have a look >> here << also.

AMD Athlon II X4 645 ---> AMD Phenom II X6 1090T HP desktop p6813w - stock/no upgrades  windows 7 64bitH-Alvorix-RS880-uATX motherboard w/bios version 6.11AMD Athlon II X4 645 processor8 gigs ram Trying to upgrade my processor to an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T.  This processor is listed under processor upgrades on this page Specs. I have upgraded the bios to the lastest version and done everything else I have found to possible help it recognize this processor.  The computer starts up, fan runs, but shuts down after a few seconds, usually when windows would normally start up and display on the monitor.  I get no display on the monitor, just blank.  Everything is hooked properly and I am able to switch out cpus and use my old one with no problems. The only issue I can see is the mother board is set at 95 watts max and the 1090T is 125 watts, but its still listed as possible upgrades.  I went on the Foxconn website and found an update that supposedly updates the bios to recognize the Phenom II X6 processor, but the motherboard is not exactly like to one in my pc, using there drop down menus I get one similar to whats in my pc.  Heres the web page - Foxconn  - Click the "Tech Support" tab, in the "BIOS" section, under "description" and forth download from the top "Update the AGESA code for support Phenom II x6 CPU".   I'm hoping this is what I need, but it seems I have to Flash my bios to get it to work, if its the right one and I really don't feel safe doing this.  But I tried running the AFUWIN file and some other files just to see if they would run in windows and the AFUWIN file did but then said my bios is write protected.  I know I can make a bootable disk and try to update, maybe that will bypass the write protection, I don't know, I looked on the board for a jumper that might cause a flash block, but didn't see one.   I hope you guys can help me install this processor, maybe theres another update that I can run without having to flash the bios that hp has somewhere on their website.  I also thought theres a chance the processor may be bad, bought it used on ebay from someone in the US and it was guaranteed working and they have 100% feedback.  THANKS for taking the time to read and helping:-)

1090T, welcome to the forum. First, you should not try to use any BIOS updates that are not provided by HP.  They have their components made to their specs and retail versions will not work properly.  In fact, they will most likely will crash your system. Here are the specs for the Processor upgrades for the motherboard: Max TDP: 95WMotherboard supports the following processor upgrades: note:Only Socket AM3 processors are supported with this motherboard.AMD Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core (Thuban core)AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb core)AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka core)AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto core)AMD Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)AMD Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)AMD Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)AMD Sempron Single Core 1xx (Sargas core) Please note that I have highlighted the maximum TDP: 95W.  Therefore, the 125W processor won't work in your motherboard. Please click the "Thumbs up + button" if I have helped you and click "Accept as Solution" if your problem is solved.
