AMD Radeon R9 280x not detected by ASUS Z97-A
Hi all,
I just purchased a MSI AMD 280X Graphics Card (Twin Frozr) and have put it in a new build, but I can't get it recognised by the BIOS/Windows. My PC has the following specifications and I'm wondering if my power supply is the issue:
Asus Z97-A Motherboard
Intel Core i5 4960k Processor
MSI AMD 280X Graphics Card 3GB
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (120mm)
Samsung 2.5-Inch 250 GB 850 EVO Solid State Drive
WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue
G.Skill RipjawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
Corsair Builder Series CXM 600W Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX/EPS PSU
The power supply is 600W and this seems fine when I put my specifications into a power supply requirements test (they seem to recommend anything from 400W - 550W), but I don't know how trustworthy they are.
I have tried a few things:
1) Initially I had only attached the PSU with the 6+2 pin power cable to the 6 pin port on the graphics card (leaving 2 pins dangling). The fans on the card spun at normal speed, however my BIOS did not pick it up. The system booted as normal with integrated graphics.
2) I updated my BIOS to latest version and re-tried, but still no luck.
3) I attached the 6+2 pin power cable to the 8 pin port on the graphics card. This time the fans didn't spin at all and obviously the card wasn't recognised. The system booted as normal with integrated graphics.
4) I attached the 6+2 pin power cable to the 6 pin port on the graphics card (like step 1) and using the remaining molex power cable on my PSU, I attached a two molex to PCI express (6 pin) adapter to this cable, then attached a 6 pin to 8 pin adapter to the 8 pin port on the graphics card. This time the fan spun for a millisecond and the entire system failed to power up.
5) I attached the two molex to PCI adapter mentioned in step 4 to the six pin port on the graphics card to see what would happen. The exact same scenario - the fan spun for a millisecond and the entire system failed to power up.
6) I repeated all of the tests in another PCI-E slot in case this was the issue, it wasn't!
So yeah, long day with no progress. Is there something wrong with the way I'm configuring the graphics card (the molex -> PCI express -> 8 pin adapter attempt seems convoluted, but plausible) or am I right in thinking it may be a power supply issue? How do you normally fill the 8 pin port on the graphics card? Is my card just faulty?
I could be horribly wrong in what I'm attempting or guessing about the PSU - I'm a complete novice.
Any help much appreciated!
Yeah, the explanation was a bit tricky, so hopefully pictures will help. I'll do it in steps again.
The exact card I was using:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/amdradeongraphicscards/amdr9280xseries/r9280xgaming3g.html
1) I connected the 6+2 connector below to the graphics card's 6 pin power slot. The fans were spinning at a normal speed but the card wasn't recognised and PC booted with integrated graphics.

6-2 power cable in the 6 pin power port of graphic's card
http://s24.postimg.org/ymthm2eol/6_pin_adapter_in_card.jpg
2) To supply the power to the 8 pin power port of the graphic's card, I used the molex power cable from my power supply and connected a molex to PCI express 6 pin adapter, then connected a 6 to 8 pin adapter which went in the power port.

PCI-E (6 pin) to 8 pin adapter

3) Assembly of this convoluted cable!

The cable above attached to the molex power cable
http://s24.postimg.org/xlt8wxxp1/molex_to_molex_adapter_to_6_8_pin.jpg
4) Finally the entire cable connected to the PSU and the 8 pin port of the graphic's card:
http://s24.postimg.org/v9l8zcl3p/all_hooked_up.jpg
Which of course resulted in the system not being powered at all! So if the PSU is powerful enough, how am I supposed to get power to the 8 pin port on the card? Can I do this without adapters? As I guess this is where I'm going wrong.
Thanks in advance.

AMD Radeon Graphics Card Not Found! Please Help HP Envy M6...
When I head into device manager, it shows that I have only an Inter (R) HD Graphics 4000 graphics card even though the laptop is said to have an AMD Radeon built in... I've upgraded my version of Windows but it doesn't make sense, why does this driver go away? I've reinstalled every driver there is for the AMD series... I can't get my laptop to detect the graphics card, has anyone had this problem? I've seen this on threads too but the answers weren't helpful at all because they just redirected the user with a link to another thread which isn't relating to a graphics card. Is there any way I can fix this so my laptop can detect my graphics card?
Note: When I run AMD's 'automatic driver checker', it CANT EVEN DETECT IT ... Please help me, there's just one too many problems with this laptop aside from the fact that it overheats like crazy.
Thank you,
Shehryar. This is the picture that I've taken, you can see that the Intel HD Graphics 4000 is indeed there however, I found an unknown device at the bottom. There is NO information of this device, here is the 'info' for the unknown device:
Device type : Other
Manufacturer : Unknown
Location : On PCI Express Root ComplexUpdate driver will not work. I'll look for more but that's really it... Thanks Shovon_Khan! -
Vostro 3560 - AMD Radeon HD 7670M not working
Hi guys,
I bought an DELL VOSTRO 3560 with Intel and AMD graphic card, but when I trying to run switchable graphic card, it show an error message also when I run any games like (MS Flight simulator X) it don't detect my AMD graphiv card.
also my OS is Windows 7 64bit and I upgrade all drivers.
please see attached picture after I run AMD switchable graphic:Hi,
Let me try to clarify you. The AMD Radeon HD 7670M works with Intel HD Graphics with a technology called "Enduro" that define (by the system) which graphic will be used in determined conditions.
If you have the "Automatic Windows Update" setted "on", and like Dell did not released any new graphic driver for more than one year, your system will detect (automaticaly) new drives for Intel Graphics HD 4000 and will install them. And it's the cause of your problem. It will mess your graphics configurations.
Like Ravi Chandra stated, you may need to completely unistall all graphics stuff and reinstall last Dell's driver (http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriverDetails/Product/vostro-3560?driverId=3WKM7&osCode=W764&fileId=3147193857&languageCode=en&categoryId=VI). It will restore your system graphics funcionalities.
To avoid new issues, I would suggest you to read this thread: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3519/t/19486888.aspx?PageIndex=1.
Me and another community member, after the procedure above, have installed AMD Mobiity Graphics Drivers (http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx) over the Dell's A04 drivers. And, after installed latest Intel Graphics updates (http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect?iid=dc_iduu).
We kept all graphics devices functionalities with completely updated drives.
Don't ask me why Dell did not release this solution. Me and the rest of world don't know.
Let we know if this solved your issue
Regards.

AMD Radeon HD 6470M Not working-on Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit -"Hp Pavilion g6 series "
I am now using Windows 8.1 Enterprise 64-bit .the display drivers are not working good. i cant use properly Adobe Photoshop(CC , CS5..etc).
All the "Hp Pavilion g6 series " [Pavilion g6-1201tx]Has the problem. Display Driver .-AMD Radeon HD 6470M
i download lates vertion from here :-
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
But after install i got error message on Device manager.
Error Message:- "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"
my laptop Specification here:-
http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c03061225&prodSeriesId...
Any suggestions?Install the newest Windows 8 (64-bit) driver for your notebook only from the HP web support download section.
uninstall the drivers for both adapters and the Catalyst Control Center by running the softpaq and choosing uninstall all. Once you have done that run the installer again and (select install all) install the Catalyst Control Center and the drivers.
The switchable graphics capability makes your notebook require the drivers from HP to achieve the switchable graphics capability.

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 Not Detected in CC or CS6
So, I have a dilemma, and I'm hoping Adobe staff might be able to help. I'm including all the nitty gritty details, so bear with me.
I'm running an Asus G74JH laptop. Asus has decided not to update the driver for my specific card anymore, leaving me off at version 8.683.
I have uninstalled this driver and updated to the most current stable and beta driver on the website (I tried both on separate occasions), and finally, CC was able to detect my GPU.
However, the most stable version of my GPU driver causes my laptop to crash in games that I play, such as Counter-Strike: GO, League of Legends, and pretty much every other game I try to run. It sits fine for a while, and suddenly, I get a grey / bezeled screen. If I hit my power button and force my PC into sleep mode, wake it up, the game will continue until the next time it decides to randomly crash. If I do not force it into sleep mode, it freezes and requires a hard reboot.
My question is--
Is Adobe able to detect the 8.683 version of my driver rather than have me update to my current driver that causes my games to crash?
I'm conflicted by work and play.
I've also contacted Asus and AMD/ATI. I'm now trying Adobe. I'm hoping someone-- anyone.. can help me with this. I want to get on that CC monthly!
Thank you for your time and effort! The W500 is on the list of ThinkPad models that are not fully supported in Windows 8. My personal experience is that Windows 8 runs rather well on a W500, despite the lack of switchable graphics. Also, forget about using the Display Port output to drive an external monitor. That just will not work without those unavailable drivers. However, the W500 runs Windows 8 rather well, and video is pretty quick without the ATI support. Both a standard hard drive and solid state drive exhibit rather good performance with Windows 8 on the W500.
I'm not too upset about the lack of Windows 8 support for the W500; that new operating system isn't all that much better than Windows 7 anyway. -
Lightroom CC - Windows 7 - AMD Radeon HD 6700 not recognized
Just upgraded to Lightroom CC, discovered that my HD 6700 GPU is disabled.
Photoshop CC however has no issues with the HD 6700:
I checked for the latest AMD driver but that one was already installed. OpenGL Extensions Viewer confirmed that GL support is 100% up to version 4.4.
Some supporting info:
I also installed and tried out the latest AMD Betra driver (labeled 15.4Beta), with no change:
Thanks for your assistance. There are at least six other threads on this subject already:
OpenGL Failure in Lightroom CC
GPU Acceleration not working
Lightroom 6.0 OpenGL acceleration not working with NVIDIA GTX 750Ti
Lightroom CC does not support Intel HD 3000 on MacBook Pro - please add support !!!!
GPU acceleration not working when exporting images on Lightroom CC
Which GPUs are supported with Lightroom 6?
Can we try and keep discussions all in one place, please? -
AMD Radeon HD 7450 DP not detected
I have a new HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT with Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit and an AMD Radeon HD 7450 DP graphics card installed. However although my monitor works when connected to the DVI output of the graphics card, under Device manager it is listed as 'Standard VGA adapter'.
I have tried installing the latest driver packages from both AMD and HP and in both cases the AMD Install Manager does not detect the graphics card, it just installs the audio driver and the install manager and says 'installation complete'.
I have been Googling this for a couple of days with no luck, so any help would be greatly appreciated.Hello Jarnon,

Z68a-gd65 (g3) Not Gen3 pci? (with Radeon R9 280x)
Hi all.
Just got my AMD Radeon R9 280x installed. I have MSI Z68A GS65 (G3) motherboard with the latest BIOS ver.
Doing a check in Catalyst Control Center -> Information -> Hardware the Grapics Bus Capability report PCI Express 2.0 x16
In bios the PCI 3.0 setting is set to auto.
Is this a AMD CCC info bug, I am realy running PCI 3.0? Is there another way I can check if the Grapich card is running on PCI 3.0 or PCI 2.0?

I installed Premiere Pro CS 6.0 on a brand new system.
Win 8.1,
i7 3.4 GHz on an Asus Sabertooth
16 Gig memory
AMD Radeon R9 290 Graphics Board with the latest drivers and Bios.
On starting Premiere I get the (as I noticed quite frequent appearing) error message that Premiere cannot find a capable play module and the suggestion to update my video drivers.
I tried everything I found in this forum or on the web:
Installed the latest drivers
Run the program as an administrator
Updated the Graphics board Bios
Updated Premiere CS6
Started Gpusniffer in CMD-mode to find out what board it found and added that to the cuda_supported_cards.txt in the Premiere directory.
All to no avail. The app will simply not start.
The Gpusniffers report states:

As I invested a lot in the CS6 Master Collection I am not considering an update tot the CC version, also because the same problem occurs in that version too.
I would be much obliged if someone has an answer that truly will work. This problem costed me the best part of two days’ work and fouled up my workflow considerably.==========
I tried to go into display settings and disable the Intel card. (this caused low resolution which is unexceptable)
==========
This makes me think it's using that graphics "card" ( probably built into mobo ? ...called 'onboard graphics ? )
This stuff gets tricky and sometimes the only way to make windows 'recognize' the pci graphics card is to actually take it out and boot, and then put it back in...
Then you get mssg " windows detected new hardware" and you install the drivers...
usually bios gives you choice of using onboard graphics or not ( but this too is wanky sometimes...sorry to say ...)
I recently ( this past year ) had a similar sort of situation but have a desktop, where its easy for me to take off side panel and pull the pci-e graphics card and boot, and get that horrible low res default screen...turn off, install card, reboot etc...
but anyway, it sounds to me like you're notebook is using that mobile graphics driver stuff and not the radeon. Somehow you've got to make it switch to that graphics card is maybe your solution.
sorry I dont have notebook but maybe someone else here does and can help more...
good luck.
ps..its always a weird fact of life...when things aren't working 'right' something has to get done fast....
edit:
I dont know how much you know about windows stuff, but after you disable that intel thing and get your low res screen.. you DID try to update the driver for that card using 'my computer / device manager ' right ?? -
CS6 Not Responding - AMD Radeon 6630m issues
I have been faced with an increasing number of CS6 freezes, primarliy when in the middle of some quick select editing on raw files, which appear to be the video card. Windows informs me that the "Display Driver AMD stopped responding and recovered" in the windows task bar. After this message shows Photoshop is frozen, and listed as not responding in task manager at which point I have to kill the process. Are there any known compatibility issues with this video card and\or drivers and Photoshop? I have the latest driver from HP (this is an Envy 14), which had the version 9.0.0.0 driver from AMD. I tried the latest beta drivers from AMDs site and it gave me an error saying that the hardware was not supported and to use the manufacturer provided drivers.

Photoshop CC only detects Intel GPU instead of AMD Radeon (Win8)
Hi,
I am running a pc with Win 8 and Intel i7-3630QM CPU.
On my system I am running 2 Video Cards, both Intel HD Graphics 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7670M.
I set my switchable cards to high performance when using photoshop.exe, but when I check in PS Preferences, the detected Graphic Processor is Intel HD 4000.
How can I set my AMD radeon for higher performances?
Thanks
CeciliaWith dual-GPU's, it is often necessary to disable the Intel GPU, usually in the computer's BIOS.
Many laptops have dual GPU's, to allow them to run with low power consumption (on the Intel), and then they automatically switch to the AMD/ATI, or nVidia GPU, depending on which chip is installed, for more graphically intensive work. That often works well, but not in all cases. In most of those anomaly instances, the switching in the BIOS takes care of the issue - inconvenient? Yes, but often necessary. Some users have had good results by disabling the Intel in the OS's Control Panel, rather than at the hardware level with the BIOS.
Good luck,

Ipad 2 not detected in recovery mode on my ASUS Windows 7 laptop
I have had this issue on all my idevices since I got this laptop, so this isn't directly associated with the new update.
I can sync my idevices with itunes on my laptop without any issues, but every time I try to install an iOS update, when it get to the stage where it is "preparing to restore your device" or some such, the laptop installs a new device driver and then itunes just spins awhile until it finally spits out error 1601 and then the device is stuck on the screen where it prompts you to connect to itunes.
At this point itunes on my laptop will not detect the device. I can see it listed in my device manager and it claims the usb driver is working correctly, however it no longer makes the beeping sound when I plug or unplug the cable, though it does disappear and reappear in device manager, which indicates it recognizes ipad plugged in, but not in the same way.
I have tried all the advice on the apple website re: unintalling reinstalling itunes an all it's components, disabling antivrus, firewall and non essential services, removing usb devices etc to no avail.
If I take my device over to my parents 32 bit vista desktop it recognizes it, installs the driver and itunes recognizes an ipad in recovery mode and I was able to restore the software and update to the new iOS on that desktop, then had to bring it back to my laptop to restore the software from my last backup.
My first question is....when the new ios is being installed is it putting the device into recovery mode as part of the process or is it going into recovery mode because the process errors out? If it's the former, then my assumption is that the whole issue is that for some reason something on my laptop is stopping itunes from being able to recognize my ipad while in recovery mode. If the later, then ?
My second question is....is the problem the driver, the usb port or something else unique to the laptop? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but if i let winows detect it after uninstalling it can't find a driver and i get the exclamation point. If i try to manually install per the apple instructions, it tells me that the driver file is not compatiable with my device. So either windows is somehow installing the wrong driver while device is in recovery or the comp isn't detecting what type of device it is properly or ?
I'm hoping maybe i can get the next os update over the cloud and this will become a non-issue, but having to go borrow a pc to update this thing gets really old as the laptop is my only computer, so any ideas would be appreciated.
Laptop is an ASUS ROG - not sure the exact model running 64 bit Windows 7 It has two usb ports and i have the same issue on either one.
The PC i successfully updated my device on is an older Dell running a 32 bit version of VistaHopefully this will help you. Try placing your iPad in recovery mode again. You may have to try this a few times.

AMD Radeon Graphic Card 8670 not working on my Pavillion 15 notebook n259tx win8.1
i recently purchased the above notebook and tried to play some games but i am getting error that my graphic card drivers are either not installed properly or they are missing altogether, i had installed drivers from AMD's autodetect driver tool. Earlier i had installed AMD drivers from windows update but the problem still exists. In the game i am getting memory insufficient error, unable to change graphics and display settings. Game crashes giving me error message as to update my AMD graphic drivers.
My notebook specs are-(dxdiag)
System Model: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC

I tried changing settings through BIOS setup, but no such (Advance/Display)setting were available??
I tried setting the app to high performance too through 'Configue Switchable Graphics' option but no success.
Please tell me which drivers i need to install or what i need to do to work my AMD Radeon Card.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi DevangS,
If you are using GTA 4 then that would actually be the problem. According the PC System Requirements for GTA 4 it is only compatible with Windows Vista and Windows XP. Also the game requires a minimum of a 1.8 GHz processor and your model only has 1.7 GHz. You are trying to run an older game on the wrong operating system with hardware that doesn't meet the requirements for the game. Changing the BIOS or the NET framework isn't going to help with this issue.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue.
