Amd up to snuff?
Hey forum,
looking to the future, I have a question for you hardcore builders out there.
When i built my rig, thats in part to many of your valuable experience, I learned that an amd system will not run the adobe universe efficiently as an intel platform, due to amd's instruction sets in their chips.
well amd has a new architecture and some new instruction sets, with the 9590s and 8350s, i know its not brand new as of writing this, but what do you guys know about them? can amd finally run adobe as well as intel?
i am looking into the future and man amd stuff is cheaaaaaap, if amd can take full advantage of the adobe universe, i would love a build for cheaper.

Well I started looking at our PPBM6/7/8 results and out of 105 submitted results I finally found an AMD FX-6300. Now this is not the CPU you were asking about, but it ranked 94 out of 105 very near the bottom of the list. Then another AMD CPU turned up at 96th place it was a slightly newer AMD FX-8150. Sorry with none of those yet tested it is difficult to say yes or no to buying one. If you want to see the results above you will have to register on the site.
Since the FX 9590 is an 8 core unit that may help compensate for any lack of missing code instructions but I could not 100% fine any. If you decide to gamble and experiment, $300 for an 8 core AMD versus over $1100 for an 8-core Intel does indeed sound like an inviting choice. Please run the PPBM test for all of us to see.
i just went back and did a side by side comparison to an i7-4930K and my optimism for that AMD is gone. The AMD does not do hyperthreading so the six-core (12 threads) Intel will blow this eight-core AMD away any day with Adobe Premiere and most other Adobe products. Stick with a proven winner. I would guess that this high end chip might even have problems competing with a quad core Intel chip.

I am running Photoshop CC 2014 on Windows 8.1 with an AMD quad core processor and AMD E1-2100 APU with AMD Radeon HD 8210 Graphics Card. I have installed the latest driver version 13.152.0.0. When I activate puppet warp, the mesh appears over the image and I can place the first pin. However, when I go to add the second pin, Photoshop crashes. I have tried with on a new, blank file, with just a few lines on it, but, as soon as I place the first pin, the image disappears, and then, as soon as I click anywhere else in the image, Photoshop crashes. I have followed all the online advice about settings under the Preferences/Performance interface, but nothing fixes the problem. Can anyone please help?

If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

AMD FireGL GPU + Creative Cloud app = Color Depth & other Issues
Hello, I am writing this post to help anyone who may have ran into the same issues I am seeing with my AMD FireGL graphics adapter when using the Adobe Creative Cloud app on a windows 7 PC.
I ran into a problem installing and setting up the Creative Cloud app on my new workstation that has an AMD FireGL graphics processor.
First off, the system is new (dell precision m4800, with an AMD FireGL V M5100 GPU), and has all the most current drivers and updates available.. that is to say, this is not a hardware issue.
The system operates just fine outside of the Creative Cloud app, but when I installed and attempted to login to Creative Cloud for access to download Illustrator, etc., the Creative Cloud app would open up and then only display a blank white page. No graphics, no data, just white.
When I got stuck at this point I called Adobe support and spoke to a rep who had seen the issue before. The rep worked around the blank white page in CC by loading the windows device manager and manually disabling the AMD FireGL GPU device to re-install and login to the Creative Cloud app. This temporarily forced windows to use the default/dummy VGA graphics driver supplied with windows. With windows using the dummy 256-color vga driver we were able to get the creative cloud app running and get me logged in to install my design software. HOORAY!--or so I thought....
At this point I assumed the issue was resolved, but I found that there was a new issue popping up every time I rebooted my system. Windows would load and log me in using the 32bit color depth setting, but as soon as the Adobe Creative Cloud app started up, my color mode would switch to 256 colors... D`oh!
Obviously I don't want to run at only 256 colors, and neither should you! Adobe, why does my color depth change to 256 colors every time the Creative Cloud app is loaded?
If you want to temporarily reset the color depth to 32bit, you can go to Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust Resolution -> Advanced Settings -> Monitor Tab -> & select "True Color (32bit)" from the Colors drop-down menu. Using this method will allow Adobe Creative Cloud app to continue running 24/7, however this is only a temporary fix, which will need to be applied every time the system is rebooted, or any time a user logs off then back in.. Frankly, its a bit of a PITA, so why bother?
The permanent fix is simple.. go to Start -> & do a Search for "msconfig". Once found, run the msconfig utility and switch to the "Startup" tab, where you will be presented with a list of boot time startup items. Find the one labeled "Adobe Creative Cloud" and disable it by removing the check mark from the corresponding check box. Then click OK. You will be warned that a restart may be required.. go ahead and re-start. This time, when the system boots, Adobe Creative Cloud will not load, and your color depth will remain at 32bit. YAY!
If need be you can always load up Creative Cloud manually from the start menu if you need it, but it will knock your color depth back to 256 colors. Thus far i have had zero issues using adobe photoshop or illustrator without first loading the Creative Cloud app, so it isn't required. If i need updates or need to access other features within the Creative Cloud app i can, but it doesnt need to run 24/7 to use other adobe apps.
The short explanation is that Adobe is failing to fully and properly support the AMD FireGL graphics platform. The adobe rep i spoke to essentially said the same thing, but made certain to blame the graphics device and not adobe software--sure thing boss. The truth is that the FireGL and its varients have been on the market as long or longer than the nvidia products that are supported fully by adobe.
It is clear that Adobe has made a choice not to fully support AMD Workstation graphics (FireGL) since not only is the Creative Cloud app broken and causing problems, but also no graphics acceleration features work in any of my installed adobe apps.. I basically get a message saying "please us a supported graphics processor". Seriously, how is FireGL not "Supported"?
I am not an AMD or FireGL fanboy.. Frankly I cant stand AMD graphics adapters and I genuinely prefer nVidia on my personal systems. At home, my 5 year old $100 nVidia gaming card is fully supported in all the adobe apps..
At work, however, I have no choice what hardware is provided to me and this lack of FireGL support has negatively impacted my productivity more than once. Admittedly, nvidia has much more market share than AMD in the workstation graphics realm, but that does not mean adobe should just ignore AMD completely!
Hopefully this post will shed some light on issues with Adobe Creative Cloud app and FireGL graphics cards that others may be experiencing.

I don't have any links, but I remember a past discussion where the Adobe CEO said they would be going to an annual release cycle... with a .5 (paid) upgrade between the major version upgrades

Guys, I have the above mentioned GPU, Mobo & CPU (Box edition with AMD FUN). Can anyone tell me the best way to overclock them at the highest possible mark?

Best way to overclock???? Humm......
Start with a big Case, then get a large Brand Name Top of the Line Power Supply. Then get a Ultra High Performance Heatsink and Fan for your CPU, I prefer a Peltier, others prefer Water. Then put a bunch of fans in your case and make sure you have all your wires run so you get great airflow. Then get High Performance RAM for overclocking, I use Mushkin Level II Black. (If you can still find any.)
Last thing that many people forget, have your computer in an air conditioned space.
Then go have at it. Overclock like crazy.

This is a newly assembeled system. With the GeForce 4 card installed, the system freezes before Win 98 finishes booting. According to the bootlog.txt file,
the freeze happens after loading RMM.PDR and BIGMEM.VXD....
I thought maybe the files were corrupted, so I extracted
new copies from the Win 98 CAB files, but to no avail.
I tried many different versions of the GeForce 4 drivers, but also to no avail..the system always froze in the same place....
Just as a test, I replaced the GeForce 4 card with an older TNT 2 Ultra card...Sure enough, the system booted up the Win 98 log-in screen.
Unfortunately, at the Win 98 log-in screen, I see the message that the Sound Blaster Live! card cannot load it's MIDI files, so MIDI playback is disabled.....I then see a "blue screen error" that says the "system memory" is running low, and that Norton Anti-Virus Auto-Protect might not function properly.....
The system is running pretty slow, so when I check the "Windows 98 Performance settings", it says that the Hard Drives (and Floppy Drive) are running in "Compatibility Mode", but with 81% system resources free.
I thought maybe the VIA chip-set divers needed to be updated, so I tried 4 different versions, all having no effect...Also, in the main system information screen, while the correct CPU is displayed (Athlon XP 1800+),
the RAM count only says 1013MB... It becomes more strange because when in "Safe Mode", the RAM count accurately shows 1024MB.
So far, I've tried:
New and older drivers for GeForce 4 card
New and older drivers for TNT2 ultra card
New and older drivers for SB Live card
New and older drivers for VIA Chipset
I am at a total loss on what to do, so if you could offer any advice or suggestions, I'd be greatful. Do you think replacing Windows 98 with XP could help?

Andrew B.Woo, finally got Win XP installed, and my GeForce 4 Ti4400 runs GREAT. Also put that extra 512MB back in.
The only problem I'm having now is that any sound coming out of my SB Live (be it, CD Audio, MP3, or something thru the Line-In), starts to get really choppy whenever an IDE device is being accessed (i.e. CD-ROM, hard drive). When the device is not being accessed, the audio is crystal clear. (Never had this problem with Win 98se)
The SB Live card is the only device sitting on IRQ 5, so it's not conflicting with any thing. I've put that card in 4 different PCI slots, but it didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Here's what I've tried so far (following Knowledge Base articles from Creative Labs), all with no improvements:
Disabled unused devices (Serial Ports, USB Ports, Parallel Port, Floppy Drive Controller).
Switched hard drive controller into PIO-Mode only.
Tried 15-16MB memory hole (in BIOS).
Tried lowering EAX reverb.
Lowered both Sound and Graphic acceleration (even lowered to ZERO)
Tried Win XP in both ACPI and non-ACPI modes
Updated VIA drivers to latest version
Udated GeForce 4 drivers
Updated SB Live drivers
Moved SB Live card to 4 different PCI slots
Slowed down AGP slot from 4x to 2x
Installed all of the latest patches/fixes for Win XP.

AMD Trinity A10-5800K with MSI FM2-A85XA-G65! OC'ed on Air
Here is something to share with you guys today, the new APU “Trinity” Processor together with the latest FM2 Socket Motherboard from MSI “FM2-A85XA-G65”.
Let us start with the Trinity. The APU’s cores are composed of 2nd Generation Bulldozer core or called “Piledriver”. Available in Quad or Dual Core with a 32nm die size and natively supports DDR3 frequency up to 1866mhz. The built-in DX11 graphics is updated which is now 7XXX (Northern Islands) series. HD Media playback is smoother while reducing power draw. Display Port is now implemented with these new APUs which in total you can have 3 dedicated display outputs (HDMI and DVI included).
In this short review I will be using one of the four Trinity (A10/A8/A6/A4) line, specifically the A-10 5800K. The letter “K” means unlocked multiplier and makes overclocking easier, basically same with Intel’s K series concept.

•Total Draw Power: 100W

That’s it for the short review but before that here are my last words for the new Virgo Platform. The built-in 7660D graphics performs well and beats all the IGP from Intel. Increasing the speed of the memory module will certainly boost the performance of the Trinity’s IGP. I also noticed that with Trinity, it’s easier to overclock compared from the previous Llano APU.

That’s it for the short review but before that here are my last words for the new Virgo Platform. The built-in 7660D graphics performs well and beats all the IGP from Intel. Increasing the speed of the memory module will certainly boost the performance of the Trinity’s IGP. I also noticed that with Trinity, it’s easier to overclock compared from the previous Llano APU.

Problems with 990FXA-GD80 and AMD FX8350
Hello,
I built this PC back in March, and ever since I have been having problems with it. I get BSOD every now and then. It usually only happens when I am playing a game or trying to render a video. The last time I tried running Prime95, my computer locked up and didn't report the error or go to bluescreen. I thought I might post my issues here, because I can't figure out the cause. I believe it's a piece of the hardware that is causing it.
I ran memtest86 with all passes, and I checked my HHD for errors and nothing came back.
I'm not sure if my BIOS version it out of date, but it says I am on V11.13. When I scan on Live Updater 5, there are no updates so I'm not sure if I need to just flash it or what.
My BIOS settings are all default, except I changed the CPU and DRAM voltages to higher values. 1.35V for the CPU and 1.65V for the DRAM. I seen it recommended in another thread so I figured I would give it a try. All my temps look fine by the way. I'm not sure if it has solved the issues though, I haven't tried playing much games or rendering a video.
If anyone might have an idea what is going on I would really appreciate any help. I don't know much about building PCs, so take it easy :P

First off that ram is 1.6V not 1.65V. Your ram is ddr3 2133mhz which is an overclock ram speed. Hopefully that works ok in "auto".
Next, your cpu is being starved for volts. Set it to at least 1.4V. Do not be afraid to go higher if it still crashes.
The bios is the latest for Win7. I am using it and it works fine.
Do you have any monitoring software like HWiNFO64? It shows my 8350 idling at 1435 mhz and using 1.32V-1.46V right now. Under load it will be higher. Yours will be too. -
AMD Athlon XP 2800 (Barton Core) will not post at FSB 166 MHz.
Per top of the board “stickys” I have read a great number of the post on this board and done my homework to provide as much technical info to help you help me. This should explain some of it’s lengthy nature.
Aside from Memory, HDD and Video card every thing else has been unplugged from board and power or stripped out of slots to isolate the problem.

And shows at post as running 333MHz. MemTested to 1,000% with first 1 stick, then all 3 sticks presently on bios A6712vms.1B0. at fsb 100MHz (aprox. 24hr.) I even installed and ran other AMD utillitys while MemTest was running to “stress” the system memory with zero errors. During this period I checked Windows Task Manager > Performance, CPU usage at 100%, PF usage 1.35gb. No Probs.
Video card: Removed: MSI AGP-8X Ti4200- VTD8X 128 MB DDR 533MHz
Replace with: PCI card (to rule out AGP card prob.) Gilmont, nVidia 64mb
(also tried Matrox AGP 32mb card with no different results then above cards)

BIOS I have tried: The original; Ver:10A, ran fine on Athlon XP 1600 (1400 MP) 3 years.
• Then with MSI Live Update 3: Installed v. 1c which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz (MSI:” Fixes system reports incorrect message for AMD 3200+ CPU.
- Supports Sempron L2 512K 3000+ CPU.)
However, v. 1.c did not work and would not post at all with the newly installed Barton AMD-XP 2800. [frankly this attempt was months ago and I do not remember whether it would post at the slower 100 and 133 FSB speeds, and also to muddle my memory further I was upgrading an A7N8X-D with a Barton XP 3000 and having similar problems on the ASUS,,, which is now running fine at full potential. ; - p
• Then I selected and flashed A6712 V 1.7 122602, boots and runs Win.XP-sp2 at FSB 100MHz & 133MHZ. (MSI:” Supports AMD Barton XP2800+ (FSB333) CPU
-Fixes system sometimes will have IDE CRC error -Fixes D-bracket2+USB keyboard, cannot use keyboard on DOS mode.)” which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz.
I checked with the Tech. at the local shop where I purchased the KT4V MoBo. He suggested I try a different BIOS but he didn’t specify which one. He is a personal friend and admits to some bad luck and dead boards due to flashing bios so reluctant to mess with it.

• No wonder people are frustrated and confused about different MoBo versions there ID #’s and the BIOS versions them selves as seen on this news board. MSI’s fault, no fault of anyone here trying to help.

Runs fine at FSB 100 (shows as XP 1250+) and FSB 133 (shows as XP 2200+) Booting to Win. XP-sp2 on CMOS, default setup other than minor tweaks to accommodate MSI Ti 4200 AGP 8X 125mb graphics card or Gilmond PCI card. But which couldn’t run FSB 166MHz .
No post at FSB 166 mhz (once, it did flash a post screen stating AMD Athlon XP 2800 for about 2 sec. before going blank) Manual power down. Just now I rebooted with FSB 166, and again saw the AMD Athlon XP 2800 at top of the post screen as I hit pause break,,,, then the machine power crashed to Off. Once it even loaded Win.XP-sp2 but crashed to power off with in 2 min.
I must have booted this beast a dozen times or more after Clear CMOS jumper each time it went to blank screen with mach. still running. Start over; set Default settings and work up with FSB 100, 133, each time to read what POST says and see if it will boot to O/S.
Btw: I have looked for clear evidence through the not so specific descriptions MSI uses to separate these board model #s and may be part of my current problem with correct board ID = correct BIOS ID.

Yup, it says all this on the sticker and the in the manual and verified on the MoBo. So I can only guess at all parts of the puzzle as they gave them to me which lead me to the afore mention BIOS versions I ran, or am running. The sticker points to nearly half of the boards above except for the MS-6712 and the Ver:10a which is what I based my BIOS choices on. If someone knows differently and can lead me to official Nfo with a better answer I’m all ears.

Please also keep in mind I’m not trying to scuff anyone’s shoes…I just want to get what’s right for my board so that it and the CPU can live up to their full, "as advertised" potential and run with the other 3 big dogs under my desk.
This seems descriptive enough and rather lengthy. Just doing my homework and reporting my findings so I won’t include actual CMOS settings unless requested. I have notes on all settings I currently use to boot with this problem.

Quick version: Try setting processor voltage to 1,5 volt.
Long version:
Posting at wrong FSB can be put down to two things:
1 The processor isn't what you thought it is, but I think you eliminated that.
2 The system cannot run the processor at the correct speed. Mainly this has to with overheating, and/or that memory and processor cannot cooperate. This must be it, as you noticed the processor is correctly recognised.
You have little connected right? Then the best thing would be to pull power cable out. Take the motherboard and redo the seating of the processor, this is much better done with motherboard taken out.
At the same time, I suggest you clear CMOS. Should always be done when changing processor, and I've noticed on the Internet there are a few 1,5V XP2800 around.

The temperature sensor is obviously wrong I found mine reads that too when the amd graphics are not active. as for the ram that is dynamicly assigned to either the intel or amd graphics you will need to make sure your pro soccer is set to max performance in the switching graphics setting so it uses the amd gpu... the ram should get assigned to it when it is active...

Is there software to cool down my AMD turion duel core (M530) processor?
What it would be is software to lower the Processor frequency thereby lowering heat output of course slowing the speed also. but if I can keep the dv4-2145dx processor from overheating, which it seems to do without hardly any load I think I can relax some. Right now it's 50 degrees centigrade, which I believe is to hot for not doing much just on the net. I have a laptop cooler under it to!! The computer is brand new so dust is not the issue................
AMD's Cool 'n Quiet application is supposed to take care of that.

50 degress C is actually not too awful for a Turion...70 is where it starts to get toasty.
Cool 'n Quiet should already be enabled on your system. Make sure the power setting is for laptop so the frequency stepping can operate. Which Windows version are you running? -

But before buy this power supply I had a NoName 400w.
And when I oc on NoName PSU after 3,3 ghz I receive BSOD.
How to oc more than 3,3 ?
Ty.The CPU itself would work just fine up till the current draw exceeds the limit of CPU VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) and fry it. Even tho it's listed as supported don't use CPU over 95W and even then under heavy loads for longer periods of time a 95W CPU could possibly cause damage also. If using a 95W don't OC it any. The VRM on the 760GM was never intended for 125W CPU.
The only reason the 125W CPU is listed is because competing brands show support for them and MSI made the wrong decision to list them also just for competitive marketing purposes. -

That is not true, 125W support usually have high end mainboards.

I don't really know if I can get away with posting this here, but this is the only forum I know where people are technically competent enough to help me out. Recently I've put together my own computer, I had a few issues to start off with but then everything worked fine. However one day when I loaded Windows it said "new hard ware found", then something along the lines of "x64 based processor found" and "multicore processor detected and installed" followed by "new hardware installed but may not work until computer is restarted".
So I though, o..k, and restarted the computer, when I did I checked my performance panel in windows and noticed it was no longer detecting my 2nd core. After reading about on this forum for a bit I messed about with drivers, installing them, uninstalling them, updating them, rolling back them and finally I got it to work again. However windows did the same thing again a few days later (today in fact) and now after messing about a lot I've not been able to resolve the issue at all. Can someone please help me out or point me in the right direction to get help.

I assume you are using the performance monitor in the task manager. Under VIEW.....CPU HISTORY you should get the option to display ONE GRAPH ALL CPU's or ONE GRAPH PER CPU. On a single CPU system it only gives the option ONE GRAPH PER CPU. This may help determine if windows is in fact not seeing the second processor.
I already knew that thanks, I also had AMD Power Monitor running which doesn't have this option and just shows however many cores are running. O.K, the problem seems to have kind of gone away and I don't know why...
But thanks for the help, if I figure out why it's working again I'll post it to hopefully help other people. -
