AMD Venice booted with Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.6

Here is proof:

Sorry, didnt try with BIOS 1.5. I got the 1.6 official from the Korean MSI webpage: http://www.msi-korea.co.kr/program/support/support_dld_detail.php?part=1&serials=66&uid=K8N%20Neo2%20플래티넘&name=소켓%20939%20(AMD%20K8)&chip_id=51 It works fine and is in english. Boots faster but temp probe still all wrong. Apparently my CPU is currently idling @ 15C. Add about 10-12 degrees to temps for a proper readout
It worked for me and many others on this forum but you should still be careful - I don't know if MSI released any revisions of the Neo2 plat.

When will the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.C be released?
    Thanks
    FearTec

Don´t know the reason for you guys, for updating bios, but basically I would recommend Syars modded EasyBios, based on the 1C3 (1C0) version.
    Check out the link in Syars sig or read it here;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=59711.0
and read about the differant version and you´ll get a pretty good idea whats changed and added.

  • AMD 4000+ and K8N Neo2 Platinum ?

The regular AMD 4000+ (San Diego Core or Venice Core) will work on the K8N Neo2 Platinum right?

You looked in the wrong place: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=587.  As for why. later CPUs had improvements which require updated BIOS support.

  • Again prob with K9A Platinum BIOS ....

After the 1.5 BIOS of the K9A Platinum , BIOS went downhill .... I'm not using either 1.6 or 1.7 now cause my 8800GTX doesn't run ok.It seems it runs downclocked. For example when 3Dmark06 starts , with 1.5 i have 65FPS , with 1,6 and 1.7 i have 37FPS .I had in the past opened a thread here having that prob and in the end it was the BIOS.I was really hoping the 1.7 would solve this issue , but no ... And except that i have an AMD X2 5200+ and i wonna put extra voltage to o/c it but 1.25 is way low.My pc posts just fine in the beginning but doesn't boot on windows.I really think that if the highest vcore voltage value to set to M/B was 1.5 i would be able to o/c my CPU and boot in windows.Hope 1.8 will fix those probs ...

Stick with the BIOS that works best!
BIOS versions are NOT updates! they are bug-fixes....
Newer revisions doe not nessesary offer better OC or better workings...
Also, do not count on too much OC fixes, as they don't make new revisions to solve OC problems.
    (They might, but normaly not)
    So go back to 1.5

  • Advanced Configuration and Power Interface - Slow boot on Neo2 Platinum

    Hi,
Recently I bought myself a Neo2 Platinum mainboard but in WinXP I got some stuttering problems while playing music in winamp. I remembered from my last Nforce2 mainboard that changing the WinXP HAL from 'ACPI Uniprocessor' toAdvanced Configuration and Power Interface' fixes this problem.
But when I try to do this it result in WinXP booting really slow (more than 10 minutes at least). Also a clean install of WinXP where I set the HAL manually during the installation gives the same problem after installing the nforce drivers.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    MSI Neo2 Platinum
    Amd Athlon64 3000+
    2* 512MB Corsair ValueSelect
    Leadtek GeForce 6600GT
    Seagate 120GB
    OCZ Modstream 450W
    WinXP

I also have the same problem.
I have a hardware independant image that i have built in MS VPC / MS VS05 which is then sysprep'd and captured into a WIM file.
Before i built my base image in the virtual environment, i configured all the automation files used to install windows, to include the latest Intel Matrix drivers v8.5, including the sysprep files in the base image.
I have a custom WinPE v2.1 that the machine boots of the network, and runs a vbscript in the background to partition the disks, and map drives to the network, it then extracts the WIM file to the hard disk, and copies the required drivers from the network share for the model being imaged, and then proceeds to updating the sysprep.inf.
One of the process's that is performed is checking what HAL to write into the sysprep file.
I have forced all the different types of HAL's by hard coding them in the sysprep, but after the machine reboots i get the black screen of nothing and no hard disk activity, if i reboot into safe mode it freezes on agpCPQ.sys.
I use this build process to support around 5,000 different machines at two different companies, there is proberly about 30 different models of machines that are supported by this image, (HP, Acer, Toshiba, IBM, Lenovo)and i only have the issue with the new Lenovo x301, T400 & T500.
I have spoken with Lenovo Australia, and dealt directly with the advanced system engineers and even forwarded them a copy of my image for testing, so far they have not been able to provide a solution.
They also sent me a copy of the restore disks for those models and windows xp installed without an issue, but the difference is that their image does a fully automated install where as my image is a sysprep'd image.
I checked the machines HAL type after it was imaged, and it is the same as the HAL used inside my VM Image.

    Overclocking issues with Neo2 Platinum

    hiya nocturnal
1st in Integrated Peripherals / IDE Function Setup....disable sata1/sata2 dma transfer and enable sata3/sata4 dma transfer...sata 3 is top on left side of board one closest to cpu.
2nd ... Cell Menu / DRAM configuration  is where you set memory timing 1T/2T
3rd...Cell Menu / AGP Frequency ..set it to 67
just My 2 cents but why don't you take Everything back to stock (cpu & vid card) , Do the above and see if it will boot. the biggest problem you have (my opinion) is your memory...you do not state if it is pc3200/400 ...if it is go 200 Max Memclock (step 2, 1st option)
set the CAS  settings to stock..see if you can boot to windows, then and only then go Play   as in see what your sandie will do with that memory..Leave your vid card stock until you get a stable windows enviorment...also if you do shift F2 ..alt F3 it opens up other settings within our bios
I believe you will be upgrading your memory real soon if ya got the o/c bug
    Hope this helps
ps...by the way what type of power supply do you have ?

  • Upgraded my K8N Neo4 nForce 4 with a Platinum BIOS!

I surfed the MSI website looking for an update for my MSI K8N-NEO4-F motherboard, and downloaded and executed the file.
However, when i rebooted, I was met with a Platinum screen - and I don't own the Platinum version! There were some differences in the Bios, but nothing major.
To fix this, I found the original BIOS file on the CD I got with the motherboard and exececuted it. But I'm still met with that Platinum screen!
I'm not sure whether this is unhealthy or not, because the computer runs about the same way it did before the flash.

Don't worry.  There have been other posts about this.  They are basically the same boards the Neo4 line, so you will see the Plat. name at the bootup screen with each BIOS update.

  • USB problem with K8N Platinum BIOS 1.C

I was running the beta BIOS 1.CA to fix a problem with one of my CPU cores not being detected on a warm boot and it worked great.
When I noticed the official release BIOS 1.C I upgraded but I noticed problems with my USB mouse and keyboard sticking occasionally, the keyboard sometimes needed two or three presses to type and I was losing mouse clicks, gone back to the beta 1.CA BIOS and everything is fine again.
Anyone else noticed this with 1.C BIOS?

Yes, I've gone back to the beta BIOS now and everything's fine
I only upgraded to the release version because usually releases are more stable than betas, obviously in this case the reverse is true

  • Has the K8N Neo2 Platinum bios poroblem been fixed?

I work at CanadaComputers, and well we've been having this problem w/ people purchasing the K8N Neo2 Platinum, and a 3000+ winchester, mainly because that it wont post becuase the CPU is 90NM, where as the bios that is shipped w/ the board only supports 130NM.
I was just wondering if that was fixed or something because people that still buy the board from us, have this problem. Are we getting just the older versions of the board (the june build i think?) or has the problem just not been looked into?
    Luis

Interesting that you work there. I bought an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and AMD64 3000+ . How are people finding the Asus A8V DX and Epox 9nda3+? Any problems? I may sell my MSI and grab one of those, and actually could easily get it from CC. I don't care if I lose on total speed etc. I want stability and less problems. I haven't even put my PC together and gotten it up and running and the list of potential problems is daunting. That and the fact that I happen to have a Matrox G400 video card which won't even allow me to start my PC! Arrghh. Either that or grab a Sapphire 9600XT even though I hardly play games.

  • No Power With Neo2 Platinum

I posted this problem earlier, and somehow it double-posted.  Now the posts are gone, so I will try again.
I just bought a Neo2 Platinum today, but I cannot get any power to it.  I have made sure the power button connection is good; I have replaced the power supply; I have pulled everything out of the motherboard except for the CPU.  Still can't get the thing to power on.  What can be the problem?

Thanks for the psu details. it would do no harm to post the rest Graphic card drives CPU. Add them to your signature then there there every time you post, saves a lot of re-typing. You can even get them looking better than rollercam's .(RC - It seems shorter now what u altered)
yes your psu is low on the 12v rail & may cause issues down the road. but should at least turm over the fans.
    assume
    Quote
for now check:-1) CPU Fan cable is connected to motherboard CPUFan1
    2) 4pin 12v Cable from PSU is connected to Mobo (clip aligns correctly with mobo)
    3) 20pin cradle connecter is aligned & seated properly.
    4) case power connectors are properly connected to mobo JFP1 & JFP2 see page 31 of manual.
    Checked out ok.
If you have any front panel usb/fireware leads from your case unplug thenm, the connectors may not be compatable & may be shorting.
    If still nothing
Then try taking mobo out of case in case there's a short somewhere.
Mount mobo on a piece of cardboard, the tray from the mobo box is ideal, or a wodden table. mount just memory try 1 module only 1st in slot 1, graphics card, plug in 12v 4 pin & 20pin cradle. Connect case power switch.
this option also gives you chance to recheck the risers that your mobo rests on make sure there are no extra ones, should be 9, & check that these align with mobo screw holes.
Also check that the backplate for the mobo back panel clips securely in case. If loose it's been known to make contact with pors/mobo & produce shorts.
Whilst board is out of case you might also check cpu is mounted correctly.

  • Cooler compatibility with Neo2 Platinum

    Hello,
Would anyone know if the Thermaltake Mini Typhoon CPU Cooler, CL-P0268, is compatible with MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard? Isn't it too heavy for that mobo?
Also, would anyone recommend Zalman CNPS 9500 led for the same mobo?
    Any other recommendation?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jose

Go for the Zalman, its much better than the Mini Typhoon. It will cause no problems with your motherboard.

  • CoreCenter with an AMD 3000+ s939 and Neo2 Platinum with 1.4 (original) bios

hi everyone, ı think ı need some help. I install Windows Xp with SP1 and ı downladed and installed the nforce drivers (5.10 version) from NVidia's site not MSI's. C'n'Q function is enabled in the bios, I install AMD's latest XP driver and set"minimum power consumption" from power options. And finally ı install CoreCenter. My question and problem is; Cooling function i think works (as ı see from CoreCenter and windows) temps go up and down but Quiet (fan speed) function [I mean CPU (~3183 rpm) an NB (~5113 rpm) fan speeds always go up of their full limits] only works when I enable the C'n'Q option in CoreCenter; the program is not adjust fan speeds automatically for lower noice, I have to enable C'n'Q option in CoreCenter every time ı restart my system. What's wrong? MSI's nforce drivers and C'n'Q ı think works before I format the system. Please Help
    thanx for replies

When you are using CnQ the system will automatically reduce fan speed (at least it should) when it is in the reduced operating mode. Your core clock goes down and your effective speed (MHz) also goes down when you are surfing or doing non-demanding tasks. If you start playing games  or doing anything cpu intensive the system should revert to it's highest setting which includes the fans on high speed. If you are getting abnormal behavior with Core Center you can refer to the many posts on that subject. Core Center has many bugs and Known Problems. Most people including myself chose to use other software for this purpose. If it works for you, go for it.

  • K8 NEO2 Platinum BIOS LOCKED UP

I Just finished installing TEC set up on my gpu and cpu via DD Maze 4. First problem was it did not see my promise PCI raid controller. I recalled that MSI Boards had a problem booting cold so I shut down the tecs till windows started to boot and all was well, except it did not see my wi fi card. So I tried a different card with the same result. I got a USB wifi adapter and it worked, restarted the system and it locked at the bios screen, reset the cmos and I got the platinum boot screen, but it still locked. I have know Idea how to get past this, I inserted a bios recovery floppy, but it doesn't even see the floppy, just sees gets to the first line of the bios and stops, PLEASE HELP

It turns out that windows wont activate the wireless zero config tool, so my wifi card won't connect. The boot problem was caused by adding a linsys wireless g usb adapter which stilldoesn't make sense, but I have a system without the internet now.
"Memory note: C2 is a better performer than the xms xl and ll series. runs great with vdimm at 2.7, 218HT at (msi order) 2.0,3.0,8,2.0 timings...I have done extensive testing with memory modules on this board, before I decided to super cool it"

  • Neo2 Platinum Bios 1.9 is **OFFICIAL** Now

It is on the download page, but doesn't list X2 support??  It does have official E stepping CPU support though!

I downloaded the last version of liveupdate from the Msi site and the software made it all automatically! I haven't checked any option! Afer flashing I shut down the pc (it worked perfectly) and when I turned it on it wasn't able to boot. Black screen, optical devices turn on but nop signal to the monitor. If it's a known problem, what can I do? I have to reset the cmos manually from the motherboard?
As far as the other suffering from same with updating from pre 1.9x ,only thing that worked was to replace the bios chip or have it reflashed in another board .
Or if lucky use the award bios recovery flash procedure that involves having 1.80 version file and awfl833d.exe on a msdos floppy disk
and putting the flash parameters in a autoexec.bat file .
You have nothing to loose by trying it .
    http://www.msicomputer.com/support/BIOS_Award_Recovery.asp
(just exchange the flasher and the bios image to match yours : awfl833d.exe and w7025nms.180)
Wonkanoby! I know about the version numbering .
But however you are wrong about as a "rule" the lastest beta being the official .
Sometimes officials have been based on a earlier beta , e.g think I remember from the 1.4X bioses for Neo1-754 - 1.48 was scrapped and official 1.40 was
based on an earlier one .

  • Most Stable K8N Neo2 Platinum Bios for O/C

    I'm looking for some opinions
Take a look at my sig and give me your opinion based of personal experience please.
I plan to O/C this system but just built it.
    Bios Version - ?
    NForce Driver - ?
    Graphics Driver - ?
I'm looking for stability and performance or at least to bridge the gap between them.

    This goes out to everyone...
    PLEASE...THERE IS NO 1.52 Beta NEO2 BIOS.
There was a mixup with someones config, as he had the Neo2 (939)board and not the Neo (754) one.
I say again.DON'T flash any 1.52 BIOS to Neo2 Board. It will fux it.That post quoted was wrong.I just left it there for people to see not to follow.
The latest beta Neo2 BIOS is the 1.51 and i will be sending it later today to syar2003 along with the 1.4 official so all of you can download it.
