AME and CUDA/OpenCL encoding.

Will Adobe implement CUDA/OpenCL encoding or will they just leave it to the CPU only? I know MPE accelerates some effects but it does absolutely nothing with encoding, in fact if you don`t use any effects, only cuts, the GPU will not even be used, all the work is done by the CPU alone.

Hi mate, same here.. I can't do it work, simply.. I select GPU in Premiere and AME (gtx 970 in my PC and gt755M in my laptop, neither is working), GPU is 0% of use to do a simple video conversion.
To show that is a Adobe problem, this guy create his own exporter plugin ( SHAME ON YOU ADOBE!). With it AME work very, very fast, but i have issues too when change the video format to MP4.
NVidia GPU-accelerated H264-encoder plugin, ready for public testing
I don't know what i do. I think Nvidia changed encoder process and Adobe messed up very bad this feature.. Nice Adobe, i have a good GPU but i have to wait very long times (1hr videos conversion) because you guys can't do a simple exporter plugin that use GPU power.. Please, GO TO IMPLEMENT OUR NEEDS! Have a nice day.

  • PPro, AME, and CUDA: What's Actually Happening Here?

    I bit the bullet and picked up a new Quadro 4K for my Mac Pro.  The videos I'll be making with Premiere Pro will include a scaled-down multi-cam PiP, which the CUDA processors can clearly help with.  However, I'm a bit puzzled by something: what's actually going on here behind the scenes, so-to-speak?  I'm coming at this question from a software/computer geek perspective, not from a video editing one.  I'm sincerely interested in what's going on between PPro, AME, and the nVidia card.
    First off, I asked this question back in July.  At the end of the thread, Todd says that if I queue up the export with AME, then the rendering would be done by the CPU.  Fair enough, but something else is going on with AME and the nVidia card.  If I enable the GPU in PPro and then export it through AME, the AME log looks like this:
    - Source File: /Volumes/Users/jvp/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/Multi-Cam Test.prproj
    - Output File: /Volumes/Users/jvp/Desktop/multi-cam_1.mp4
    - Preset Used: Custom
    - Video: NTSC, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps, De-interlaced
    - Audio: AAC, 160 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
    - Bitrate: VBR, 1 Pass, Target 6.00, Max 10.00 Mbps
    - The source was deinterlaced
    - Encoding Time: 00:20:09
    If, however, I disable the GPU in PPro and export the same sequence through AME, the log reads:
    - Output File: /Volumes/Users/jvp/Desktop/multi-cam-no-cuda.mp4
    - Preset Used: Custom
    - Video: NTSC, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps, De-interlaced
    - Audio: AAC, 160 kbps, 48 kHz, Stereo
    - Bitrate: VBR, 1 Pass, Target 6.00, Max 10.00 Mbps
    - The source was deinterlaced
    - Encoding Time: 01:18:32
    A noteworthy difference in time.  Further, during the first export in AME, the GPU is definitely being used at about 33% or so.  So clearly it's doing something.  What I'm curious to know is: what?  Is it actually doing the rendering of the PiP while AME is exporting the video?  Or... ?

    Apart from other effects, the PIP means scaling and scaling is GPU assisted. That could well be a serious determinant for the differences in encoding times.
    Right Harm, I'm certain that the PiP scaling is what's causing the immense difference in exporting (encoding) times.  But what I'm curious to know is: why is it mattering when I punt to AME?  To me, it implies that either:
    PPro is continuing to do some of the work during the export, in the background, even though AME is open and working, or
    AME is actually making use of the video card.
    That's why I'm curious about this and wondering what's going on from a technical perspective.

  • Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder running slow

    Hello everyone,
    I'm having trouble with CS4, which is running significantly slower than CS3 did on a older machine. The CS4 suite is installed on a Dell Precision M6400:
    Windows Vista 64-Bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53 GHz
    8 GB RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M Graphics with 512MB dedicated memory
    The OS is running on a 57.5 GB HD (C:) and the Adobe suite is installed on a 298 GB Solid State HD (D:), except for Adobe Media Encoder, which is installed on the C: drive.
    My project has 4 15-16 minute sequences. The sequences are in DV NTSC, 29.97 fps,  My scratch disks are set to a folder on the C: drive. Media Cache Files and the Media Cache Database points to a folder on the D: drive.
    These are some of the problems I'm having:
    - Premiere Pro CS4 generates peak files every time I open a project
    - It then takes 3-5 minutes to render before I can preview a 16-minute sequence
    - Adobe Media Encoder takes 5 hours to render a 16-minute sequence (as flv) that has been previously rendered
    - AME takes 1 hour to render every 15 minute sequence that has never been rendered before
    Are my settings affecting their performance? Is there any way to improve it? Thanks.
    (Premiere Pro is the only app that is slow)

    The data rate for replay is one thing, the data rate from disk to memory then from memory to CPU and back the other way are different matters and ought not to be confused. It is well-established that for a computer to edit AVCHD you need top end components, and note that I said there were three tasks to distinquish with increasing hardware requirements, namely merely replaying the video, specifying edits in the editor and then the rendering. It is commonly accepted by all the industry vendors that to do remotely commercial AVCHD rendering you need a minimum Quadcore CPU then that eats data fast, in order to not let it go to waste you need a fast motherboard bus fast memory and in order for none of those to go to waste you need the fastest disk set-up you can manage. I in fact have a 4-disk RAID0 volume using SATA (I think the disk model is SATAII but I have to await return from the repair center before I can confirm). For this RAID0 volume I have run speed test software from BlackMagic because I have one of their HDTV capture cards. It recorded that this volume which remember is doing parallelised IO is just fast enough to receive a encoded HDTV stream from the BlackMagic card but too slow to receive an uncompressed HDTV stream, indeed when I tried both I found the volume did keep up with compressed but fell behind with uncompressed. Remember that with a RAID0 volume of 4 SATAII disks a given file gets spread over the four disks and hence IO is spread over those 4 3G/s data lanes. Also remember with these disks 3G/s is just a burst speed, for AVCHD we are interested in sustained serial IO which is much less.
    Before my machine broke down, I found that it took 5 hours to render 33 minutes of HDTV albeit as it went along it transcoded from AVCHD to a Microsoft HD format for Vista-only. Another interesting thing is that I found that the longer this render ran the slower it became, the estimated time started at 3 hours but the actual was five and the last one third took maybe 3 hours. Because the machine broke after that run I couldn't figure the bottleneck. For my machine bear in mind that at the repair shop we found that the Quadcore had only half the necessary electrical power plugged in, the monitor software showed however that it constantly ran around 90% of whatever capacity that reduced power supply permitted. Now then we can puzzle over why it got slower and slower and yet CPU consumption remained consistent and near to full capacity, memory was not the bottleneck because that was constant at 6.4G. But you can say that this was maybe performing like a Dualcore and was hitting some sort of wall, if you had a 1 hour render with that rate of degeneration of performance factored in what would happen to the render time, and for 3 hours you could be running indefinitely. I hope when the machine comes back the correct power supply will make it behave like a Quadcore should for this type of application. Anyway I have two theories for the degradation. First is just that PrProCS4 was getting its knickers in a twist and thereby just doing more computation per minute of video to be rendered as time went by, maybe internal resource management related to OO-type programming maybe, or related to disk IO falling behind, both these theories have problems, for the latter the CPU usage should then have dropped also.
    Anyways, you need really a Quadcore system and blazing fast disk to work fully with AVCHD commercially, we found an external SATAII disk so if I were you I would just go get one and move on with your life.

    For AVCHD you MUST have FAST disks.
    AVCHD actually has a lower data date than DV. You need lots of CPU muscle, but disk speed is really not a factor specific to AVCHD. Anything that works for DV will work just as well for AVCHD (and HDV as well).

  • Dynamic link after effects and adobe media encoder

    Hello,
    I recently downloaded After Effects cc (yesterday). I am running a mac pro with OSX 10.9.3 2.3 ghz intel core i7 with 16 gb 1600 MHz DDR3.
    On previous versions of AE I was able to render straight out of AE, I know this is not the case with CC anymore. I am trying to use AME to export however I am having issues.
    When I try to send to AME from the Composition tab in AE it looks like it is doing something and then nothing happens. I then opened AME separately and tried to "add after effects comp" from the file menu in AME the error message displayed was "Could not connect to Adobe After effects. Please verify that Adobe After effects and Adobe Dynamic link components are installed".
    I have also tried to drag and drop my composition directly from AE to AME and the following message appears "Dynamic link error - Source is empty"
    I have read a multitude of threads on this issue and this is definitely not a firewall issue. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

    > On previous versions of AE I was able to render straight out of AE, I know this is not the case with CC anymore.
    Why do you think that? You can still use the render queue in After Effects to render and export directly out of After Effects.
    That said, there are some formats that Adobe Media Encoder handles better.
    > and this is definitely not a firewall issue
    How have you determined that?
    Does exporting to QuickTime (.mov) format from After Effects work? How about the 3D Camera Tracker and Warp Stabilizer effects? The reason that I ask about these is that they use the same communication mechanism that Dynamic Link does, so if they also fail, then it tells us something about where the problem is.

  • AME won't stop encoding or process won't end

    This doesn't always happen, perhaps about 70% of the time. I'm almost always encoding .h264. I encode a file right out of After Effects (Export>Add to Media Encoder Queue) and the file encodes properly and when finished shows a green checkmark next to the file in the queue. But the encoding window continues to show the file encoding, with the progress bar at 100% and will stay there. If I close the Encoding window (CTRL-2) and reopen everything looks fine. No encoding in progress. But now when I try to quit AME I get the message "Encoding is in progress. Do you really want to quit?"
    Help. please?

    Additional info - using the latest version of AME from CC 2014(2014.0.1) on Windows 8.

  • AME and JSX weird issues

    Hello everyone,
    I'm playing around with AME and JSX in ExtendScript.
    For examples sake I am going to use a very simple script to show the issue I am seeing.
    With this script:
    #target 'ame-7.0'
    alert("Test");
    If I start that in ExtendScript it opens AME and gives the alert "Test" as expected.  However, if I double click the script or run from command line using:  open ~/Documents/Adobe Scripts/test.jsx   it will open/run AME and nothing will happen.
    However, if I take the same script and change the #target to indesign like this:
    #target indesign
    alert("Test");
    and I execute it by double clicking or through command line using: open ~/Documents/Adobe Scripts/test.jsx   it will open/run InDesign and then gives the alert "Test"
    Does anybody know why the script works perfectly using the "start" button in ExtendScript but doesn't work through executing the script directly?  (Even though the same script works fine when executed directly with InDesign (or any other Adobe product) as the #target ?
    Any help or insight on this is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Until Adobe recognises this bug here is a work around for anyone who stumbles on this thread.
    You can use BridgeTalk:
    prelude_bridgetalk.jsx:
    #target 'prelude'
    var target = 'ame-7.0';
    var bt = new BridgeTalk;
    bt.target = target;
    bt.body = function(){
       alert("Test");
    }.toSource() + "()";
    bt.send(30);
    Once you save the script you can double click or open from command line and it will open Prelude which will in turn open Adobe Media Encoder which will then alert("Test");  This is just the open door to pop in any other functions you like.

  • GTX 760 N760-TF-2GD5-OC PhysX and Cuda Not Detected

    I have done google search after google search, but I've yet to find any info on my problem.
    I recently acquired an MSI GTX 760 OC from Newegg, and of course right away put it in my rig and installed Geforce Experience. Drivers were automatically downloaded, and all seemed well. At least, until I opened GPU-Z. OpenCL, CUDA, and PhysX were not checked. At first I didn't think anything about it because I've had similar issues with GPU-Z in the past with my old HD Radeon 6750, but when I opened up AC4, the PhysX option wasn't anywhere to be found. And I did download the patch, so that wasn't the issue.
    Next I ran BOINC, which also did not detect a GPU capable of running calculations, which of course the GTX 760 is. So somehow, the PhysX/CUDA installation went wrong.
    I re-downloaded the driver suite outside of Geforce Experience in case that was where the fault was, but even after uninstalling and re-installing the drivers several times, PhysX and CUDA refused to check themselves on GPU-Z. I even ran my machine in safe mode and used Driver Sweeper, but no avail.
    It does appear that PhysX isn't un-installing itself properly, because every time I run the driver installation program, PhysX always shows up as being installed. I have manually deleted the folders, so there aren't any actual PhysX files on my PC anymore. I figured that the problem lies in the registry perhaps, but Auslogics Registry Cleaner hasn't turned up any errors so far.
    Any help would be great; I've sent a ticket in to MSI, but since it is a weekend I'm not expecting a response until Monday. I go back to college on Monday, so I'd like to get this fixed sooner rather than later
    My specs:
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
    i5 2500K SB @4.6GHz
    8GB DDR3 in Dual Channel
    2 HDD (old ones lol) in AHCI mode
    mobo is an MSI Z68A-GD55-B3
    Thanks again for the help.

    An OS reinstall would be an absolute last ditch there-is-nothing-else-you-can-do option for me, because backing up my HDD is almost impossible in my situation.
    Would a System Restore to a point earlier than the original install of the graphics card perform a similar function to the uninstall? Assuming I did something dumb in the installation or something went wrong in the original driver download.

  • NetBeans problem: Issue with servlets and Chinese character encoding

    Java Version: JDK1.5.0_01, JRE1.5.0_01 (International version)
    Netbeans Version: Netbeans IDE 4.0
    OS: Windows XP Personal Edition
    Dear Sirs,
    First at all thanks for reading this post. I am having the following issue. I am creating an application using html pages and servlets. I am using Chinese and English languages on them (html encoding UTF-8).
    I created a project in Netbeans and added an idex.html screen reporting to a servlet. Both index.html and in the servlet generated html page contains the line:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    Additional, I setup the character code settings in Netbeans:
    (tools-options-Java sources-Expert-default encoding=UTF-8
    When I run the project, index.html displays itself perfectly, with the Chinese characters displayed properly. The problem comes when the html created servlet is displayed, which instead of the Chinese characters some strange characters are displayed ( instead of Chinese).
    I have tried different encodings from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/intl/encoding.doc.html without any luck. I also setup the encoding of the file itself (using right click-properties in the project menu of Netbeans).
    Also, when I am editing the servlet, the characters are displayed properly. I type them directly without any issue, but then the display is wrong at runtime.
    Also, just in case this have something to do with the problem, my PC was bought in US, therefore the default character set is not Chinese. I had to install the Chinese typing stuff later on. But like I said earlier, the html page is displayed properly, so I really think is some problem with Netbeans.
    After a week trying to find a solution, I decided to post it here in the hopes that someone will show me the way of the light.
    Thanks in advance for any ideas or help provided
    Aral.

    Ok, I found out some problems with Netbeans as well.
        public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request,
                          HttpServletResponse response)
            throws IOException, ServletException
            response.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
            request.setCharacterEncoding("UTF-8");
            response.setContentType("text/html");
            PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
            byte[] st = {-25,-75,-124,-27,-100,-106,-17,-68,-102,-27,-80,-113,-27,-72,-125,-26,-118,-75,-26,-105,-91,-27,-82,-93};
            out.println("this works: ");
            out.println(new String(st,"UTF-8"));
            out.println("<br>");
            out.println("this doesn't: ");
            out.println("some chinese copied from the Internet<br>");Right click the .java file and choose properties -> encoding UTF-8
    Then I make a copy of the .java file, rename it to html and open it with IE sure enough
    the Chinise is allready unreadable (not it's still readable in the IDE);
    When I compile the file with F9 I get the following error:
    whatever.java:101: warning: unmappable character for encoding Cp1252
    Tried to set the encoding to UNICODE but then the file doesn't compile.
    I gues you have to download the Japanese version for it to work correctly.

  • Recommend a functional and fast HD encoder for .m2t files hat "copy freely"

    Now that HD .m2t files are becoming very common place, what program do you recommend to encode into mp4 format?
    I'm especially referring to 2048 and 2112 PID which are .m2t files and wanting to encode into .m4v files for ATV.
    Currently Handbrake chokes on these two PIDS and MPEGStreamClip can do 2112 but not 2048. Even so a HDef file using MPEGStreamClip takes about 15 hours on a MacPro and about 70 minutes if the file was not HiDef.
    So I'm thinking that there is a major lacking in free or not so expensive programs able to do the job.
    Even though MPEGStreamClip can do HiDef the 5.1 channel capability is not there such as provided by HBrake 092.
    Please make a suggestion for a free or inexpensive program, exclude programs such as Perian. I just want to keep the application use as simple as possible.

    Check out Turbo.264 from ElGato. It's an mpeg-4 USB stick that works very well. It's fast and the software that comes with it supports 5.1 channel audio if your source has it (even with .m2t files). Another nice feature is it works with other Quicktime applications, so I take a .m2t file, edit it in MPEGStreamclip and then can export using Turbo.264 which is much faster than using the Export to H.264 option. It also takes all the processing from your computer and puts it on the external chip.
    Be sure to check out the frame size limitations though. It can definitely handle an HD source file, but I'm not sure what it is limited to for output. I believe it is fully capable of all the Apple TV specs though.
    Also, there are no options for 2-pass and the quality is not quite as good as Handbrake. I have found exporting through MPEGStreamclip to look cleaner than through the Turbo.264 software, but not by much.
    Bottom line: It has made encoding HD m2t files a trivial matter for me.

    Thanks for your reply John.
    My Premiere Pro is CS5.5 on Windows OS with all the recent updates installed.
    My source footage is H.264 in a .mov/QuickTime format.
    There were no error message(s) before the crashing. The computer just crashes after a few minutes of exporting. My output codec is also H.264 in a QuickTime movie format.
    No other software is running at the time. Also, no third party codecs have been installed.
    I'm not sure what type of engine I use. Kindly direct me to where I can find this information.

    Ignore the message. After Effects uses your CPU and RAM Primarily, not the GPU.
    You would only need NVIDIA CUDA for one rather insignificant function: the acceleration of ray-traced 3D compositions. Your AMD GPU will not ever work for this function as it does not use CUDA.
    The After Effects team is no longer working on this feature and suggests that you use Cinema 4D Lite (bundled) for your 3D work instead. There are also some great third party options for adding 3D elements to After Effects compositions like Invigorator Pro and Video Copilot Element 3D.
    Hope that makes things clearer.

    I am wondering if CS 6 AME uses it in the background or something or not at all?
    I am thinking of sticking with CS  6 for a variety of reasons and just wondered if the later versions
