AME CS5.5 - Would be nice if Watch Folder also understood TIFF Sequences

Hi...
Like the header says...
Did you guys over at adobe forget to add TIFF and other sequences to Watchfolders.
Doesn't work here.
Trying to add a TIFF SEQ folder to AME as a direct Watch Folder will result in AME doing weird stuff and subjecting itself to me force quitting it
A fix would be nice
Thanks

Agreed - I would also like it if Watch Folders in AME could recognize still image sequences of any supported format; unfortunately that currently doesn't work.  We didn't forget about this; it was a case of the amount of time required to engineer and test the functionality exceeded the amount of time we had available.  We hope to include this functionality for a future release.
Also worth noting that Watch Folders don't support Premiere Pro or After Effects projects.  That's an entirely different problem, and much stickier since you would have to somehow identify which sequence or comp inside of the project you want AME to render.
I've made a comment about these limitations on the AME Help page about importing files to the queue and watch folders.  (Note that you too can make comments on the Help pages.)  Hopefully that will be of assistance to people in the future who encounter the same problem.
> Trying to add a TIFF SEQ folder to AME as a direct Watch Folder will result in AME doing weird stuff
Can you be more specific about what weird behavior you saw?  If you put a still image sequence into a folder being watched, the expected result is that AME will add each individual still file to the queue.  If you put a long still sequence in there, that may take a long time.
As always, filing a feature request about changes you'd like to see is helpful.  Each submission really does matter.

  • I Wish for a little more IQ in AME when dealing with TIFF Sequences !!!

    1)
I drop a movie into AME (let us assume a .MOV) called MVI_7899.MOV which I want to convert to a TIFF sequence.
    So far so good.
I set my parameters etc and choose an output destination.
    I click render
Let us assume that my .MOV has 1800 frames.
AME names my new movie as follows
    MVI_78990000
    thru to
    MVI_78991800
Any other app that I have ever been working with would have the chops to add an "_" (Underscore) character BEFORE adding the sequence number.
I SURE would wish for such in AME>>>>> If NOT already possible.
    2)
Also, I think there should be a preference called "Automatically Create Folder for Image Sequences"
This would create a folder with the name of MOV file and put all the sequences inside of it. THat would SAVE time. LOTS.
    3)
Also, I think it would be fair to assume that anyone dropping a MOVIE into AME does NOT wish to create ONE tiff image from that whole movie but a TIFF Sequence. Choosing Adobes TIFF presets will NOT tick the "Export as Sequence"Parameter
    4) Last but not least
Why on earth is it not possible to drag n drop a tiff sequence folder onto AME. I have to double-click in the source name view and then navigate to the sequence I want to import.
    5) Ok LAST wish
When having navigated to a TIFF sequence I cant believe I have to check - Import as sequence - This parameter, in book, should be ticked by default.
At least I know of NO ONE.. Wanting to convert ONE single tiff frame to H264..
Perhaps the guys that make this app could consult a little with folks working with image sequences ;-)
Afterall, if you have a RAID0 system - movies converted to image sequences are going to beat the performance of ANY codec available on the planet currently.
Thanks for reading and for an otherwise great intuitive app !

    Hi,
Thanks for the great feedback.  All of these issues are superb feature requests.  Would you mind filling out the feature request form for each one of these?  Sending feedback that way ensures that it gets routed and filed appropriately.  The forum here is a great place for discussing the issues, the feature request form is the best way get it in front of the right people's eyes.
FWIW, several of these issues are already logged internally, and are on the long list of improvements for the next version of AME.
Specific responses to each of your requests:
    1) Yep.  After Effects does this.  AME should, too.
    2) You're preaching to the choir here.  I'd love to see AME and AE both adopt this feature.
    3) I get frustrated by this, too.  Export As Sequence is not enabled by default for any of the still formats except DPX.  Definitely want to fix this.
    4) AME isn't quite smart enough to distinguish a folder of individual TIFF files from a folder containing a TIFF sequence.  Same reason that you can't use sequence files as a source in a Watch Folder.  Definitely something we want to fix.
    5) Yep.  After Effects does this.  AME should, too.
Again, thanks for the helpful feedback.  It is appreciated.

  • AME watch folder - hangs when too many files

I have about 350 vob files in a watch folder, ever time I start up AME it seems to start processing them but it just starts "not responding".  I noticed that it is writing files to the Media Cache folder but then just eventually stops after about a min or two.   If I only put like 20 files in the folder it works ok.
Is there a way to disable the media cache files from being written?  I don't know that they are necessary just for what I'm doing (i'm not previewing or anything).  I don't know that it is the issue but it seems AME is hanging on the # of files and the fact that they are VOB/mpeg2.  Has anybody ever experienced this?
The # of files is not a one time deal, this will be a reoccurring issue and it would be much nicer to be able to just dump all the files and be done.
I'm using CS5.5, Win 7 64bit, recent i7 Sandy Bridge proc, 16GB ram.  The watch folder is on a Synology NAS connected via gigibit, maybe that is part of the problem (that it is not local).  The media cache folder is on a local 2TB drive (WD Black) with plenty of room.
    Any insight would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Ryan

The fact that the watch folder is not local to the AME machine may indeed factor in.The process is definitely more robust in a local scenario; network environments complicate matters in a number of ways. Can you run a test where you copy the same batch of files to a watch folder on the AME box?
    A few other questions:
Is the "Auto-Encode Watch Folders"  option enabled (at the top right of the Queue panel)? And are all 350 files getting added to the AME queue?
If Auto-Encode *is* enabled and some jobs are *not* getting added to the queue, then please try with Auto-Encode enabled.
We're not suggesting this as a workaround but just to give us more insight into where things are failing.
What are CPU and memory usage though the process, from the time you drop files into the watch folder until AME hangs? Are either getting maxed out?
How big are the VOB files? How long does it take to copy all of them into the watch folder?
I know of no way to disable the creation of media cache files.
Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention and giving us an opportunity to troubleshoot it.

  • FCP XMLs into AME watch folder

Hi, recently Adobe Media Encoder added support for FCP XML files. I am exporting FCP XMLs from Premiere into an AME watch folder but no job is being created in the queue, despite having 'Auto-Encode Watch Folders' turned on and 'Start encoding automatically when idle for:' set to 0 minutes. If I manually add the same FCP XML file to the encode queue, the job is created and processes correctly. Has anyone been able to make AME process FCP XMLs automatically using watch folders?
The point of doing this is to potentially free up workstation resources by doing all rendering on dedicated AME machines, allowing quicker turnaround of the kind of short, simple edits that our users do.
This is on OSX Mavericks, Adobe CC Premiere 7.2.1(4) and Adobe Media Encoder 7.2.0.43.
    thanks

  • PPRO CS5.5 - Would be nice if sorting of project material took place immediately

    Hi there...
Perhaps I am doing something wrong or I have missed some hidden preference.
Anyway, what is really bugging me is that in my project I have LOTS of files and bins etc.
After importing a clip or creating a new bin and giving it a name PPRO does not sort the list according to names until I come up to the top of the project panel
    and toggle-click the NAME pane.
After that sorting of recently added items is alphabetical. On the other hand, if I dont come up and do that little trick PPRO wont sort until I close and re-open the project....
    Not so Pro
Anyway - THis is using Mac OS X Snow Leopard - Latest Version

2 instances I (or a poor assistant editor) has to rename that many or more clips:
    - Anything long enough that's slated & w/ script notes from the shoot - you want your file names to be your scene & take.  Alot of these types of projects are done on MC, which doesn't sort after naming and for a good reason.  With some little details on how it handles it really optimizes how fast you can do the work.
    - In AE, had to make about 200 versions of the same 5 graphic slates.  I named the files so that I can easily go back to find it if I need to make any changes for specific versions; and it saved a bunch of steps in exporting because I named it specifically what the comp name was & exported file should be named.
So, doing around 1000 renames with AE autosorting after every rename (and having to scroll back to where I was each time), was not ideal. That's why it should be optional to whether it "automatically" does it or not .
I agree it would be nice if upon import, it automatically sorts everything into whatever you currently have set.. by name, by type, by label, etc.  Makes sense.

  • How do you configure AME CS5.5 to overwrite existing output files?

How do you configure AME CS5.5 to overwrite existing output files?  So far the only options I have found are to increment the output file name or fail.  From the explaination of file increment I would have expected overwrite to be the alternative.  We work daily with the same file(s) on an hourly basis and convert via watch folder to over a dozen file types and network mapped destinations.  Re-using the same file name is critical to the final project (updating website content). Does anyone have any suggestions?

Has there been any updates on overwriting output files in CS6? This would be extremely helpful.

Does anybody know how to solve the problem or any workaraound?
What I already tried is to drag and drop a "few" files, for example 50 clips manually into the ame. What then happens is that the media encoder crashes completely.
I've got a client that needs all those files converted until the end of this week, so I would be really happy if anybody could help me.
Or has anyone an idea for another encoder I could use? I also tried it with telestream episode but it does not support avi container with cinepro-codec...
VirtualDub doesn't support alpha channels, so which program could work?

    Hello Nariman,
    thanks for your answer
    1. Exactly what version does it say you have?
    Version 7.2.0.43
    2. what happens if you open other types of files like .MOV or WMV and convert to Cineform?
I tested it with mov- and wmv-files:
    No, same problem: [..\..\Src\LegacyTime.cpp-101]
    3. what happens if you take your Cineform files and convert them to other formats like H264?
    This works fine.
    4. How large or small are your files?
The size of the files is between 70MB and 300MB, but 90 % of them are between 90MB and 130 MB.
5  Are these stills or movies ?  How many minutes?
All items are pre-keyed movies (which I exported from after effects via media encoder to the 4k-cineform files). The length of all files is between 2 und 5 seconds.
    6. Are you using 3rd party plugin to import and export Cineform?
I have got the cineform studio premium codec installed. It shows up directly in the media encoder options. So I don't use anything else than media encoder and the cineform codec

  • Watch Folder in Adobe Media Encoder CS3

    Hello,
We are currently working on a project to automate some video encoding. Files uploaded to a server should get automatically converted into a specific format. (Unfortunately) we only have the CS3 to work with.
We couldn't find the "watch folder function" (like in CS5, CS6) in the CS3 AME (since it is not even an own application, but built into Premiere/AE?). Does this AME version even support the function? Is there any other way we could solve the problem?
    Thanks in advance,
    - Marc

This functionality is not in the CS3 version of the application.

  • Files in watch folder not moving to "Sources" after being processed

Files are not moving from the root of the watch folder into the "Sources" folder after being processed, which results in the files getting re-processed everytime AME is re-opened.
I just upgraded to Creative Cloud from the Production Bundle 5.5 with no changes in hardware/software config, so it's not that, however since I'm new I'll walk through the checklist:
    Version: 6.0.3.1
Other applications installed: Premiere, Photoshop, Lightroom, AME, After Effects
    Recent updates installed? Yes.
OS: Windows 7 64-bit, all updates applied.
Using AME through Creative Cloud? Yes.
Source footage: Avid DNxHD exports from timeline in .MOV container
    Error message(s): None.
Error present in specific output format/encoding preset? No. It's a global issue.
What were you doing when the problem occured? Relaunching AME.
Has this ever worked before? Yes, in CS5.5 Production Bundle's AME.
What other sofware are you running? At the time, nothing.
Third party codecs? Nope, other than the ones that Avid installs during it's own application installation.
Computer hardware: *sighs* i7 3770k, 32gb ram, asus motherboard, gtx 570 graphics card, a bunch of hard drives, no third-party hardware.
MPE Acceleration in Premiere: Not really relevant in this issue, but yes, when I use Premiere I use MPE.
Is anyone else running into this issue?

  • Photoshop 9 Organizer - Watch Folder Error

PS9 Organizer is a waste of time, and it would be nice if Adobe would answer a few questions about their product. Can not get Organizer to back up files. When I start Organizer, it immediately brings up a window stating "Elements Organizer Updating", even though there is nothing to update. After several minutes of the bar going from 0% to 100%, it sits idle until a message pops up, "Watch Folder Service: The Watch Folder Service returned an error: Message Format. Invalid Tag ID." The only option is to say "OK". Clicking the ok button removes the error warning box, but the Organizer now sits there with the Updating box, from now till doomsday, and will not run. I am using a 64bit, HP Laptop, with Vista Home and 4GB of RAM. Fine Product there Adobe.

I too get this same error.  PSE 10, no previous versions, Lightroom 3 loaded on as well.  The first time I installed PSE 10, I got this error and had to CTRL-ALT-DEL each time I tried to go into Organizer.  Like others have said, no problems in Editor.  I uninstalled and reinstalled hoping this would fix the problem...it now gives me this error message sporadically, I get lucky every now and then and do not get the message.
It would be nice for this to work, but my alternative may have to be to turn off Watch Folders in PSE 10, import into Lightroom, then Export into PSE 10?  Maybe, I haven't tried yet.

  • Bridge Watch Folder

I'm beating my head against what I think should be a fairly simple problem:
    1. Bridge watches a folder for incoming files.
    2. When files are added to that folder, they get loaded into a Photoshop file as a layer stack.
    3. A Photoshop Action runs, doing some image adjustments, etc.
    4. The processed file is saved as an animated gif.
I found a solution that looked promising here: https://forums.adobe.com/message/4826884#4826884. The first script adds a "Hot Folder" menu item to Bridge. When the hot folder is started, it is supposed to hand off an array of files to the second script, which does the work of opening the files and processing them in Photoshop. It seems like it should work, but I haven't been able to make it fire off that second script, and I can't for the life of me figure out where it's failing. It could be that I'm just not familiar enough with ExtendScript Toolkit to figure out how to debug it usefully.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - pointers toward scripting resources, maybe a different approach to the issue that I may not have thought of - whatever.

  • InDesign automation using watch folder

    Hi InDesign experts,
Can we use InDesign desktop version (CS5) for a remote batch processing work without any manual intervention?
For example, a script automatically picksup the input file and create pages automatically using watch folder. Is this allowed in desktop license agreement.
    Thanks in advance.

    Marc,
Power Switch is available for both platforms. Trial period is 30 days.
Here are some topics I recommend you to read at start in the User Guide: JavaScript for applications,
AppleScript for applications and Adobe InDesign. Here are some samples (see Javascripts for CS applications).
If you, or somebody else is interested, I can post the script I wrote.
Here are a few short tips to get you started:
Don’t confuse Javascript/AppleScript for CS applications with Internal scripting in PowerSwitch (scripts written in SwitchScripter). You need the former: the script attached to an InDesign/Photoshop/Illustrator/Acrobat/Quark/etc configurator. You drop a configurator into the flow, attach In and Out folders and a script to it.
You can add up to 5 arguments which are simple strings that can be passed from the Properties panel in PS to the script.
Attach the script to Command property. Don't use Open and Save in the script -- PS handles them on its own (Open and Save as parameters)
Use $doc in the script instead of activeDocument
If you had any questions, I would gladly answer them. Probably we could even start a new thread on the Power Switch topic.

  • Excel save as pdf hangs when launched through a watch folder

    Hi there,
I've configured a watch folder to launch a batch file which launch a .exe file I've written in C++
In this application I launch Excel which open a .XLS document which contains macros.
At the end of the computations there is a macro which save as pdf.
At this point everything hangs and I have to cancel the job I've created for the watch folder.
If I disable the watch folder and I place the starting file inside the watch folder
and I manually launch the .bat file (which usually is launched by the watch folder) everything works perfectly.
I really really hope there will be someone here coming with a solution for me.
By the way on the windows forum I've got a very disappointing answer where they stated it was probably a fault of my application.
Well fortunately that was not the problem because
I can reproduce the problem even removing my application from the equation so now we have cleared
the issue is not casued by my application.
So if you want to try it yourself just follow the steps below:
    1) create an excel document so that after you open it it automatically run a save as pdf operation and close excel. (let's call this document "PRINT_TEST.xls")
    2) create a batch file named "Excel_launcher.bat" and write the command
    ""C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\EXCEL.EXE" "C:\teststampapdf\PRINT_TEST.xls""
    3) Now create a watch folder job that execute that batch file.
    something like "C:\watchfolderX\Excel_launcher.bat"
    4) now create a watch folder that uses that job and for file filter use "*.txt" enable it and start it
    5) now launch manually the batch file and you'll see that it print the pdf and closes itself
    6) drop a txt file inside the watch folder you've created and you'll see it hangs at the save as pdf operation.
This is something that have to be fixed and it's due to excel.
I can launch and save documents with all the application I want but excel so that's the problem.
Please take a look and keep me updated I badly need to find a solution for this issue.
    THANK YOU in advance,
    Davide

  • Is there any way to tell which formulas a particular cell is in, reverse look-up style? That is, is there a way to search somehow for which formulas in a sheet contain a particular cell in them without opening all of them up? If not, it would be nice

Is there any way to tell which formulas a particular cell is in, reverse look-up style? That is, is there a way to search somehow for which formulas in a sheet contain a particular cell in them without opening all of them up? If not, it would be nice.
I'm fixing a Numbers document that I use in business daily that's become overly complicated, but while I want to clear/delete a number of cells in it to clean it up, I'm not sure if those cells are being used as source for other formulas on the page. I don't have to open all my formulas one by one to see if that cell is in there, do I?! That'd be a huge amount of work if I wanted to eliminate say 10 cells to search each formula on the page to see if it is in there or watch all the cells when I delete that cell to see if the numbers change! There's got to be an easier way! Right click doesn't seem to be any help.
I don't want to damage my daily tool to make it cleaner and reorganize it. Is there really no way to do a reverse look-up of which formulas a particular cell is in?! Any time I click on a formula it highlights all the CELLS in that formula. Why can't I (or can I?) do the reverse and see all the FORMULAS that contain a particular cell?
As a Numbers document ages or gets used frequently, you can sometimes forget which cells are tied to which formulas. You just look for the results of your formulas. Would be a nice thing to be able to do. Thoughts? Work-arounds? Answers?

Answer would be no unless application provided such feature. Numbers does not as far as I know.
Note that even if you have complete list of formulae used in a table, identifying formulae referencing any given cell is not simple.
E.g., cell T20 is referenced not only in
    =T20+1
    but also in
    =SUM(T)
    =SUM(20:20)
    =SUM(S19:U22)
    =OFFSET(S1,19,1,1,1)
    =INDIRECT("T"&(10*2))
In order to identify such formula, we have to actually evaluate it to see if it references the given cell. Especially such formula as OFFSET() and INDIRECT() may not be found by static parser because their parameters can be dynamic.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.

  • How do I determine the name of a file from a watched folder

I would like to generate a log to track the names and outcomes of files processed from a watched folder.  I don't see a way to access the name of the file from within the process.  I have a variable "inPDF" which is data type "document" and "outResult" which is type "xml" but I don't see a way to access the file name (or path) of the "inPDF" "document" object.  Is there a way to access the file name and path?

    Thank you, this sounds promising.
Where can I find documentation describing the attributes that can be retrieved using the getDocumentAttribute function?  Also, where can I find a complete reference on the Document object?
