AME Exported Videos show transparency differently than when viewed in Premiere Pro!

This is kind of hard to explain but basically AME does not seem to treat 99% opaque as 99%...instead the exported file looks more like 90-95% opaque. If you have 2 clips (contrasting clips are easier to notice) on top of each other in Premiere and the top clip is at 99% opaque and the clip beneath it is at 100%, in Premiere you can hardly see the bottom clip, if at all. At 99%, that's how it should be. Just barely peeking through the top clip...
BUT...
If you export that clip using AME, the resulting clip will look completely different and it looks more like you had the top clip set at 90-95%. The lower clip is MUCH more visible. There is not "barely peeking through" like you see on Premiere. It appears that AME does not handle transparency well. For example if you cross dissolve two clips. It looks fine in Premiere but export it out to Bluray/DVD, etc. and all of a sudden, sometimes the beginnings and ends of the clip abruptly clip on or off as they fade into the clip. Again, it's like they go from 5% to 95% but miss out on the subtle start of 1-5% and the subtle ending of 95-99%.
There is a thread about this in the Premiere section but I figured I'd toss it here since it seems Premiere handles/shows the transparency perfectly, but the issue arises when it's exported. To really define the point see the following clip that another user posted in that thread I just mentioned. Notice how the cross dissolves abruptly start and end sometimes. I noticed this in my exported videos too because I use LOTS of cross dissolves. It's easier to notice on more contrasted clips, but I think this illustrates the issue really well.
https://vimeo.com/14536285
Again, I just edited a project that had 2 clips stacked on top of each other and I accidentally had the top clip at 99%. I didn't even notice it in Premiere. You really cannot see the bottom layer peeking through...well, barely. But it's really subtle which makes sense because the top layer is at 99%. But on my exported Bluray/DVD...holy cow, it's VERY noticable! Almost as if the top clip were at 90%, not 99 (no exaggeration).
I don't see a BUG Report for Adobe Media Encoder so I submitted a bug report in Premiere Pro.
Can any one (staff preferably) address this issue please?

Thanks for the response Todd. Is there a way to get around this GPU vs. CPU thing you mentioned? If not, is there a way to export from Premiere (to DVD/Bluray/Vimeo H.264) without using Adobe Media Encoder or export somehow so that dissolves and opacity changes are handled the same way that Premiere handles them so that the exported video doesn't look suddenly different? (I'm on a 2011 iMac with 16gb RAM and the AMD Radeon 6970M Graphics Processor) Basically, am I screwed and there's no current way having these issues with transparency that I mentioned above?
Here, by the way, is the thread I mentioned that has to do with cross dissolves. I figured it was just an issue with that specific transition until I just now did this export with a 99% opaque clip on top of another clip and the resulting export looks more like an 85-90% opaque clip.

Adobe support contacted me on the phone and said that its a known issue if you have multiple formats or codecs when you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze. Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude when trying to view media in browser wont load or it freezes during viewing in media browser. I downloaded CC version and it works fine in both app. I reinstalled both Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude app to rule that out, deleted pref as well.

    Hi Zencuts,
When you try to view media in browser in Premiere Pro CS6 & Prelude it wont load or it will freeze.
I'm not seeing that behavior with various kinds of media. If it's a known issue, it's the first I've heard of that.
Do you have the latest update of Premiere Pro CS6 and Prelude CS6? You can try Help > Updates to make sure. I see you have an iMac on OS X 10.9. What kind of media are you using? Which GPU is in the iMac? Have you updated the drivers recently?
Your issues may well have to do with your installation of OS X, as well. Certain ways of updating to OS X 10.9 can reset permissions in your Adobe folders so that can cause problems. See this doc: Premiere Pro CC, CC 2014, or 2014.1 freezing on startup or crashing while working (Mac OS X 10.9, and later)

I'm not sure how you got through to support with a CS6 issue, as phone and chat support is no longer available for CS6 users (except installation issues in the first 90 days and activation issues thereafter). Forums are the only option for support for CS6 users, sorry. That said, the agent should not have promised you a call back and not followed up in some form or fashion. I will see if I can look up the case and let the agent know their error.
    Thanks,

  • Why does my exported swf show more content than actually on frame?

Why does my exported .swf show more content than actually on frame?
My problem is relatively simple, though, I had some trouble finding a solution to it:
When I play my exported animation using flash player in Google Chrome, if the window is bigger than the resolution flash document/frame, it shows content not meant to show up on the frame -- like parts of a huge background that aren't supposed to show up yet.
In other words, how do I constraint the .swf to the white background/document resolution?

Anyone? I'd appreciate it if someone replied soon -- I am done with my project once this issue is resolved, and I am excited to publish it.
Please respond if you have any useful knowledge on the matter!
    Thanks!

  • Colors in FCP looks different than when playing in QT7

The colors of the video's in FCP looks different than when playing back in QuickTime. I wonder if it can be a color management setting in FCP? I have the same problem when playing a clip in AE. I have two FCP machines, but only one of them is having this problem. Any ideas of what I can do to get the right colors back?

Have you enabled Final Cut Studio Color Compatibility in the QT Player preferences?

  • Safari shows colors different than other browsers and GoLive

Does anyone know why Safari shows colors differently than Firefox, Explorer and Opera, Mozilla and Golive?
For example if I use "websafe" colors in photoshop with 2.2 gamma and sRGBie...2.1 and save, then import into Go Live with the working space the same, North America Web/ Internet, the colors are typically darker, although occasionally they are the same.
I have tried embedded profiles and non embeded.
The difference only happens when I view the page in Safari. By the way I use a mac, GoLive CS2
This is a constant frustration. I have created several tests but have found no satisfactory results. I am in the process of creating a website for teachers who use powerbooks and safari. And this color change really restricts creative possibilities. If the same page is viewed in Firefox it looks like it does in GoLive.
    Thanks for any help,
    Kevin

    >> When no profile is in use.. Safari will assume sRGB becaus this is the web standart profile...
True on Windows Safari and other Windows browsers.
Safari on Mac and other Mac browsers 'assumes, assigns, applies' the Mac's default monitor profile to untagged color.
This is easy to proof here in the sRGB rollover:
    http://www.gballard.net/psd/go_live_page_profile/embeddedJPEGprofiles.html
If Mac Safari 'assumed' sRGB on untagged files, then the sRGB rollover will have zero change.
    +++++
    >> converting to sRGB before saving for the web ensure god color in all browseres, and JPG and PNG can be savde with color profile
Except in Mac browsers that have 1.8 monitor gamma profiled.
The Mac-specific problem with trying to match tagged graphics on matched-color background in Safari is:
    1) The color background is untagged and will Assume default Monior RGB.
    2) The tagged graphic will be Converted to Monitor RGB.
In other words, if you fill a page with 4bb93c and place a tagged sRGB image, filled with 4bb93c, the two colors won't match up in color-managed Mac web browsers like Mac Safari...however, if you untag the sRGB file, it will disappear on the page, but it will be off color depending how close Monitor RGB is to sRGB profile in Mac browsers.
Windows, on the other hand is a different beast, it Assigns sRGB to untagged color, so tagged/untagged sRGB will be good in all Windows browsers.
At least that is what I have seen here on my Windows Vista Business box.

  • Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow

Photo rotaion in organize view different than edit view & slideshow. The fact that the power supply to the computer was accidentally disconnected while I was working in iPhoto no doubt was the cause of this phenom.
Any suggestions as to how to re-sync the rotations back up?

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't aware of the use of theses two keys simultaneously. It occured to me after this post to just trash the whole library which I had just created for this particular group of photos and re-import the photos to a newly re-created library. I still had the camara connected so as it turned out it was fairly easy. Now that I think about it, if this hadn't been a newly created library just for this group of photos it wouldn't have worked so simply, so I guess I discovered another benifit for having multiple libraries.
I'm glad you recomended the apple/alt key combo though as this knowledge no-doubt will come in handy at some time.

  • How do I get audio back on single clip that loses audio when imported into Premiere Pro CC?

I've got one clip out of many that for some reason won't play any audio when imported into Premiere Pro.  I am new to Premiere Pro so am hoping it's something stupid I've done, but this is a problem with just a single clip exported the same way as all my others, the original audio is loud (not quiet) and none of the FAQ issues seem to apply (ie I haven't muted the audio or anything stupid like that)
The clip was exported from Plural Eyes into a "master" Premiere Pro project where the audio is fine. I exported it as a short MP4 clip and if I play the clip in Windows Media Player the audio is there loud and clear.
But when I import the clip into a fresh Preimiere Pro CC project this clip appears with just the "film strip" icon on the far left in the Timeline panel, unlike other clips which have an icon that shows "film strip" in the background and "audio wave" in the foreground.
I'm hitting so many glitches with the CC editions of Premiere Pro and After Effects which have annoying inconsistencies between them I'm tempted to just go back to Sony Vegas Pro (single program, no hassle) but hoping most of these issues are down to "newbie incompetence". Very hard to understand why this one clip out of many should be giving me this specific problem though. Any ideas?

I'm getting so many weird results. Most go away by simply closing the project and re-opening and I only have 6GB memory but even so, I'm disappointed by what I thought was supposed to be more "world class" video editing software than Sony Vegas Pro which I found to be a lot more stable. Also struggling with differences between Premiere and After Effects. Every time I want to do something in Pro I seem to need to go to After Effects and vice-versa. After Effects lets me do more of what I could "just do" in Vegas Pro timeline, but it's hideous for lining up audio and having to render anything in RAM to even get a clue as to what a change has done.  Need to add Audition to the long list as well I suspect. Fun times!

  • 99 or 100% when it says Premiere Pro has stopped working and needs to close. What's going on?

I am using the premiere pro trial at the moment and have been trying to render a video for a solid week now. My computer is far more powerful then the recommended specs and yet it still takes 2 hours to attempt to export a 3 minute video (that isn't even heavily edited) and not only that but it will get to 99 or 100% when it says Premiere Pro has stopped working and needs to close. I have used earlier versions of the product before and never had such problems, even my 2 year old laptop could breeze exporting. What's going on?

Thanks, I'm a bit new to asking for help!
    Version : Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (8.2)
    It is up to date
    I'm using Windows 8.1 build 9600
My sources are contained in .mov, .mp4 and .png. The codec I'm trying to use is H.264
After I set the project to export I got this error message every time it gets to either '99' or '100%' completed. "A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
I have never had such a problem with the program which makes me think it might have something to do with a recent update.
No other notable software was running during the export.
I don't have any third-party effects or codecs installed.
I have 64 bit OS and processor, Intel i5 - 4670K quad core clocked at 3.40 GHz. 12 GB of RAM. And a GTX 770 with 2GB of video RAM.
Unless it was installed in the trial, I do not have the Mercury Playback Engine.
And finally, it can be noticeably choppy during the preview when it gets to the part I don't have rendered but is fine again for a bit if I replay those parts. A part from being a bit slower then usual, I didn't actually run into a major problem until I started exporting.
Thank you for the help! Any suggestions?

  • Bridge CC crashes when opened in Premiere Pro CC

Bridge CC tends to crash regularly when open in Premiere Pro CC. Sometimes it takes longer to crash than other times. sometimes it doesn't crash at all but it appears if I leave both programs open for an hour and then come back to work on a job it will crash in the middle of looking at footage to import into premiere. Is this a bug or is there some way to fix it on my computer?

Need more info.  What OS and ram?
Bridge is a processor intensive program and if processing video in Pro CC it could starve computer for resources.

  • Phantom Flex footage dark when imported to Premiere Pro

Hi everyone (and hopefully Adobe Staff, also),
I am aware this has been posted before, though from what I can see no one, Adobe Staff or users, have found a solution. I am hoping we can change that!
I recently directed a Music video that was shot on the Phantom Flex. Everything went smoothly and after dropping the 3TB of footage via Seance (program by gluetools for Mac) I am now faced with a problem. While all the footage looks fine in Seance and on the Finder; when imported to Premiere Pro (CC v8.1, Caravan (latest update currently) it goes very dark, blue and flat. Premiere Pro is interpreting the colour/luma of the footage wrong.
Adobe states that Premiere Pro supports Phantom Flex .cine files but it seems that while you can edit with them, the colour/luma is interpreted incorrectly. Many other people also seem to have this problem.
These images below are all screenshots from Macbook Pros, one with ‘Glue Tools Phantom Cine Flex 4K’ installed (the gear house’s laptop) and one without (mine).
I need to find a way to get Premiere Pro to interpret the colour/luma properly in Premiere Pro to edit the project, it seems the Glue Tools plugin is not the solution I was hoping for, as some people have suggested elsewhere.
Is there a way to fix this within Premiere Pro or a plugin etc?
Has anyone successfully edited Phantom Flex footage in Premiere Pro?
Any help would be extremely helpful as I am really stuck here.
    Thankyou so much.
Here is an example with some footage shot by the crew before me (still left on one of the cards), as you can see it is not just my footage that isn't working in Premiere Pro.
    Thankyou,
    Jack

It looks to me like Seance (and Finder) are applying a LUT to the footage, whereas PP is showing you the flat image as it was actually recorded, which is normally the desired result.  Was there a LUT applied in the camera viewfinder or on-set monitor, something you might also apply in PP?

  • When I run Premiere Pro CS5, it works for awhile then locks up

My machine has 16gb of memory and a Intel 7 processor.  When I run Premiere Pro CS5, it works for awhile
and then locks up for anywhere from a few seconds to over a minute.  Can anyone dignose this problem?
Could it be where Premiere is installed in relation to where my files are stored?
Any help with this vexing problem would be appreciated.

I edit AVCHD with the computer described in http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694 and have no problems
My 3 hard drives for video editing are configured as...
    1 - 320Gig Boot for Win7 64bit Pro and ALL program installs
2 - 320Gig data for Win7 paging swap file and video project files
When I create a project on #2 drive, the various work files follow,
so my boot drive is not used for the media cache folders and files
3 - 1Terabyte data for all video files... input source & output export files
How many hard drives do you have, and where is everything located?

  • Why do images within a PDF look jagged when viewed in Acrobat Pro 10.1.6?

Using a MacBook Pro running Mac OS version 10.7.5 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB graphics card. High-resolution source images look fine in other software, and embedded images in a PDF look fine when viewed on Google Drive, but curves and diagonal lines look jagged when viewed in Acrobat Pro 10.1.6. Checking smoothing options in Preferences only adjusts the position of the jagged edges; it neither enhances nor ameliorates them.
I created a sample PDF to illustrate the problem I'm having. Created in illustrator, exported to PNG and converted to PDF. Here is a screenshot of the source PNG side-by-side with the PDF I created from it:
Please note that when I preview the PDF in Finder, and when I view the PDF in Chrome using Google Drive, the image looks fine. Here's a link to the sample PDF:
    http://www.sendspace.com/file/77f5m6
    Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks!

Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my original post, I've already tried toggling smoothing options. They don't make the jagged edges go away—they just change them slightly. In some cases, as with the sample file provided, it does help smooth the art out, but it never looks as good as it did going in, in a recent project, toggling smoothing options didn't affect the appearance of the image at all. Zoom does not appear to relieve the artifacting.
A little clarification: this PDF was created from a flat PNG, but I have had this issue with PNGs and TIFFs as well, generated by both Photoshop and Illustrator. To reiterate, the PDFs display fine in other software—Finder preview looks great, and the same file viewed in my browser via Google Drive looks as intended as well. A colleague was able to replicate this issue in Acrobat on his Windows machine. This appears to be a rendering issue specific to Acrobat with regards to the files I use it to create.
