AME fails to encode clips

I recently upgraded to CS6 Production Premium.  I edit multiple clips in a APP project and export (queue) them to AME.  Since I have upgraded about half the time the clip fails to encode.  The error is usually like
- Encoding Time 00:00:15 (range 15 to 57 seconds)
Error compiling movie.  Unknown error.
I never saw this problem in CS5 doing the same kind of projects.
I work on a Dell XPS8300 With Win 7-64.  16GB memory.  NVIDA Graphics Processor  Project files all on a USB3 external drive.
Original footage 1080p-30 .mov and .mts +.wav audio files
Output h.264 720p-30 Vimeo HD preset

Please try following:
Clean media cache Preferences > Media
Remove .mts file from sequence and try exporting the sequence.

  • What can I do when Encore fails to encode during build?

I got the message that my project failed to encode during build, so I went to the Project window and tried to encode it manually. It still came back as failing to encode.
I am afraid I have a corrupt file in PP that is blocking the process.
    How can I fix this?
    Stressed Jim

Hey Bill: Please indulge me with some back ground information for full details.
I got fed up with my project. It was my first project to do. I had to learn everything from how to use a camera, lighting, capturing, editing in PP, (started with PP2.0 and 1 partitioned HHD. I have since updated my computer to 3 internal SATA HHD's with 2 external HHD's. Harm was intent on that. Went from 1GB of ram to 8GB; Xp to Vista to Win7. A new GTX260 video card. I plan on going to 12GB ram and new motherboard and a quad processor. I may need to get another VC that is recommended with my new MB?)
I am saying all this because the same project had to be redone when I updated a lot of this stuff. It was a mess trying to work with the original 2.0 project in XP and then 3.0 in Vista and then in 4.0 in Win7. So I had to start over several times. In all it has been over 2 years with many, I mean many problems. I even got a new camera along the way. You guys were very instrumental in helping me get through a lot of my problems. Most all due to my lack of knowledge about computers in general. There is also a lot to PP. I was so happy when I learned how to cut and ripple delete with 3 steps instead of 4. I have even learned a few shortcuts that makes titling a lot easier. YEA for me.
Needless to say my project was a mess. I did not know about first building a folder for all related sequences. They were all over in Explorer. I had 14 music clips and they were not in a folder; just as an example. You can imagine the mess I had created. My last debacle was to do some house cleaning. (I have a love hate relationship with the Delete butttom.) So I backed up everything on my D: to E: & H:. I then proceeded to delete all the stuff on D: thinking I could just move the project I was working on back to into D: and free up a lot of GB's. (As if that was how you created a seperate workspace from storage and backup.)  It was taking 5-6 minutes to open my project. I was also crashing a lot in Encore; that was my main concern. I had read where crashes were not good on a HD? But what do I know?
This is where I was when I sent you this forum. (Oh, by the way, I was able to successfully burn some DVD's before I did the housecleaning. They have 1 misspleed word and 1 button in Encore menus does not link where I want it to go, but I can live with these minor issues. It is a struggle, but I am working threw it. I put the smiley face, but it does concern me, I am wanting this DVD to be correct. I did not say perfect. I have learned the difference between a silk purse and a sow's ear.
Anyway, like I said, I got fed up not being able to burn a DVD, so I deleted everything having to do with my project except for the raw camera footage, EFX's, and music clips. I just learned by exploring in Explorer I could do that, so every time I started over in the past I had to recapture all my 5 hours of footage. (I used a Canon HV20 camcorder and it is great for my needs.) I found out somehow I had deleted some of the raw footage during my recent house cleaning; however and I can only guess, that is why I could not get Encore to burn a DVD by failing to encode. (But who cares nowww....with a distance closed eye smile.)
Becasue for now, all I have on my 3 HHD's are raw footage in 6 separate folders, as well as my EFX's and music clips in designated folders. That is all that is on my 3 video HHD's, 3 little ol' folders. I now want to start over and do it right this time. This is what I need to know:
    1. How to use 1 HHD for a workspace and the others for storage and backup without messing up my project. Someone mentioned using Project Manager??
    2. I also need to know how to use folders effectively to keep my project organized.
When I burnt my HD project on a Standard DVD going from PP to Encore using Dynamic link, the video turned out great. I can see my finger prints like HD; all the close ups are super clear when watched on a HD TV; except where the camera work was lacking. The face shots at a distance of 4-5 feet are not quite (said with a small huh, drawn out 'q' and face twisted to the right and downward, with a drawn up lip) "huh not q....uite" as sharp as one would have hoped, but way plenty good for an instructional DVD. (Harm doesn't like to hear that.) grrrr... I considered converting HD to SD, but in all, I am very pleased with the outcome of my project using Encore to Burn my HD project to a SD DVD disk.
I have an Epson Artisan 50 ink-jet label printer using JVC VD-R47HPS25 disks which works well together. My next purchase is a 1-3 DVD/CD Duplicator/copier with Copyright protection. All I need is the money. LOL Wife is even OK with it.
Now that you know my life's video history and where I have progressed, or regressed, not sure which, if you know of any good links to help with my 2 concerns, please give me a shout.
    Jim
    Is that detailed enought?

If you are trying to dump the audio from a youtube video with ffmpeg, and encode it to .mp3, troubleshoot what isn't working the way you wish.
Start by seeing if youtube-dl is working.
You can get the formats the video is available in with:
    youtube-dl -F http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=123456789
You can usually get audio only using
    youtube-dl -f 140 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=123456789
That will be .aac or .m4a audio
You can leave it like that or to reencode to .mp3
    Check if ffmpeg is working.
    ffmpeg -i file.m4a -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 128k Oufile.mp3
Or if you have a video file that you want to dump the audio from into .mp3
    ffmpeg -i file.mp4 -vn -c:a libmp3lame -b:a 128k Outfile.mp3
If you get an error about lame then check if lame is installed
    pacman -Ss lame
Post if ffmpeg works ok for you.

  • IDVD failing to encode audio

Help ! I am making a DVD for the high school baseball team and the banquet is next week. I did the same thing 2 years ago without incident. My iMovie is a slideshow of digital photos set to music. When transferring to iDVD, it encodes the menu, encodes the video (takes 2 hours) and then fails to encode the audio. The colored circle spins for a few minutes. The burn circle stops spinning. My laptop (Powerbook G4) spits out the DVD disc blank. I tried taking off all songs expect one that I used 2 years ago without incident. Did not work either. I am very very disappointed. The kids were going to love this. Any ideas ? If worst case scenario occurs, is there someplace (I live in Ann Arbor) I can take the iMovie file to and have them make a DVD ? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am working with iMovie 5 and iDVD 5. Will it help to upgrade to ILife 06 ? Thanks

I only have 1.21 GB at this time because I
transferred the iMovie to my laptop. Having said
that, the reason I put it on my laptop is that I made
the iMovie on an external hard drive with over 300
GB. The problem first occurred on the external hard
drive (Western Digital). I thought moving it to my
laptop might make a difference. It did not.
iDVD needs to use your start-up hard drive for many things when creating a DVD. You need to freeup at least 10 GB (15 or 20 would be better) for things to work.
My son plays for Huron. We split with Pioneer. I live in A2
but went to ND. Are you still willing to help me ?
Certainly - but since I live near Rochester, NY all I can do is offer written support here in the Forum
Just as a general rule of thumb, OS-X needs something like 10 to 15% of your drive kept free of OS use. So if you have a 60 GB drive, you will need something like 6 GB free JUST FOR THE OS! That's why I said you need to freeup about 10 to 20 GB.
The problem first occurred on the external hard drive (Western Digital)
What is the format on this drive? They usually ship with a Windows format and need to be reformatted to a Mac format to work well with all things Mac OS-X.

  • Encore failed to encode

    Hello
Using CS5 on iMac, I exported from Première to Encore.
The project failed to encode and Encore crashed.
Wondering where I can find the error log in the Mac (Lion) to see if there's anything specific there and perhaps post it.
I will try another project to see if that works, but for now this is the second crash since installing.
    Tx in advance

I don't know if the below is specific to Windows, or is also for a Mac... but, free to read
As well as the below, right click the Encore icon and select Run as Administrator, which is NOT the same thing as running the computer with the Administrator account, and which fixes several "odd" problems... To create a dual layer DVD (or a BluRay?), you MUST have Encore set to use the Run as Administrator option

  • AME - Unknown Error encoding failed/freeze/hangs h.264

    Hi Guys,
I am using Premiere  Pro CS (6.0.3) update. I have been working on Premiere , After Effects  and AME for at least 1 year. I bought Adobe Production Premium Box. Usually I use footage from Canon 5d and  GOPRO 2 and 3. Lately, longer video have been  crashing after 10 min  when rendering to H.264 - mov or just h.246 in 1080p 25fps (both using AME and Direct Export in Premiere). I  never had this problem before with longer videos (10 min long and more). I tried different source paths, no effects, frame blending, turn of Mercury Playback engine.
Messages:Unknown Error Encoding failed - if using AME (sheep sound)
Or: Freeze - the program does not repond and I have to close it
Using direct premiere export - freezes or just stands still during rended/hangs.
    MXF, loosles AVI seems fine.
I tried different projects and all formats. I checked CPU temp and it is max 60C.
I lost all hope. Is it hardware?
    Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit
    MB Asus m4a785t evo
    AMD Phenom II x4 955BE
    Nvidia GTX 580 DCII (Cuda)
    SSD - system (256GB)
    2 x hdd 7200 (2x500GB)
Ps.  i used cache clean, mercury playback on/off, different GPU - still  crashes on H.264 (Youtube 1080, Vimeo 1080, Android Table 1080 25fps)
    Any tips?
    Arti

    That dreaded sheep!
While I would still want more RAM for AE to operate off, I dont think that is the problem. The only other thing I persoanlly can suggest is that that is an installation error on AME.
Uninstall all programs that use AME - Premiere, After Effects, Flash etc, restart yourt machine then reinstall.
    Then try again.

  • AME fails to start encoding after AE CC adds to queue why?

Hopping to get some help for a relative neebie.
I am testing a very small AE CC project. I basicly just animage 10 frames of a start moving across the frame.
When I goto Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue... Nothing happens. Well almost nothing. The folder and temp .aep file is generated but then nothing happens.
So I then try adding an After Effects Composition from AME itself.... I use the dialogue to browse to my composition. I click it and I get a connection bar spining at the bottom and then finally a message: "Connected to DynamicLink Server". I can't click OK because the OK button is disabled. I click away and then click back and now the status says it's "Connected to my Project"
Can anyone tell me whats happeneing here?

    HI,
Let's see if we can get you back in business ...
You need to boot from your install disk and run Disk Utility.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

  • AME Adobe Media Encoder Cuda GPU Acceleration not activated, How do I activate it

Mac Pro Early 2009 4.1, Processor  2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, Memory  16 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC, Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2048 MB, Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)

I read this article http://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2013/09/13/enabling-cuda-for-the-mercury-playback-engi ne-in-the-macbook-pro-retina/. it shows GPU acceleration through AME (see below). In my AME que window I do not see this

    Todd:
    (edit)
Just reread - sorry, CS6 vs CC.
    What about AME CC?
    http://blogs.adobe.com/kevinmonahan/2013/09/13/enabling-cuda-for-the-m ercury-playback-engine-in-the-macbook-pro-retina/
So, CUDA acceleration in AME and OpenCL is supported.  Anyway to monitor this?  I get FAILED when I try either (on a box with nVidia, or a box with AMD).
    Found this:  http://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/whats-new-media-encoder-7-1.html#gpu-accelerati on
    GPU acceleration
Adobe Media Encoder now takes advantage of GPU for rendering purposes. Both CUDA and OpenCL are supported. The latest release of AME uses the GPU for the following renders:
Scaling (HD to SD; SD to HD)
    Timecode filter
    Pixel format conversions
    Deinterlacing
    Aspect ratio changes
All effects in the Effects tab
GPU accelerated effects in Premiere Pro
If you are rendering a Premiere Pro sequence, Adobe Media Encoder will use the GPU render preference you have set for the project. All GPU rendering capabilities of Premiere Pro are utilized. The limited set of GPU renderable tasks in Adobe Media Encoder is only for renders that originate in Adobe Media Encoder.
If you are rendering a sequence with native sequence support, the GPU setting in AME is used and the project setting is ignored. In this case, all GPU rendering capabilities of Premiere Pro are utilized directly in AME.
If your project uses 3rd party VSTs (Virtual Studio plugins), the GPU setting in the project is used. The sequence is encoded through headless Premiere Pro just as in earlier versions of Adobe Media Encoder. If Enable Native Premiere Pro Sequence Import option is unchecked, headless Premiere Pro will always be used and the GPU setting is used.

  • Really need help with AME Adobe Media Encoder crash on startup.

Hey all, this is my first time posting in these forums.
I have Adobe Design Premium and need to use the included Media Encoder for a project I'm working on.  It opened well the first time, and I started converting a file - at which point it crashed.  Since then, when I start it, it shows the startup / loading image, but once finished opening disappears and closes itself.  I've tried reinstallig, no dice.  I also read the plugin log files (My Documents > Adobe > Adobe Media Encoder > Log Files) - nothing out of the ordinary.
Very stuck and very frustrated - any suggestions would be really appreciated.
    Thanks!

Hi Michael. Without more information about output settings, the project, the computer, etc, I can't speculate on the cause of the initial crash. I can, however, offer a suggestion as to why the app is now failing to launch: the initial crash may have corrupted the application settings. If you delete those settings, or otherwise hide them from AME, then the app will create fresh settings on the next launch.
    Windows Vista & Win 7: C:\Users\<<yourUserName>>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\<<yourCreativeSuiteVersion>>*
    Windows XP (from distant memory): C:\Documents and Settings\<<yourUserName>>\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\<<yourCreativeSuiteVersion>>
    Mac: <<partition>>\Library\Preferences\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\<<yourCreativeSuiteVersion>>
*On Windows 7 & Vista, if you can't see the App Data folder, you'll need to set Windows Explorer to show hidden files and folders: Tools>Folder Options>View tab.
If this does the trick to get AME running again, and if it again crashes on you, please provide as much information as you can about the project, export settings, system, etc.

  • Premiere & Media Encoder show Quicktime presents but fail on encode

My Premiere & Media Encoder CS6 both show Quicktime presents but fail each time I try to encode directly to Quicktime with .mp4 codec.
Quicktime is installed on my machine, which runs Windows. I'm using Adobe Creative Cloud CS6.
Goal: to use the Quicktime format and sucessfully encode video sequences as .mp4 files at various settings.

BUMP! To this thread as I am still having an issue encoding QuickTime files.  Below is a quick recap with some new information.
All testing is done on a system running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1 with Adobe Media Encoder CS6, CC, and CC 2014 (same results across all versions).
The failure occurs after a few seconds of attempted rendering, with only the following message from AME:
    "Encoding Failed
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie. Unknown error."
Important note:  This problem DOES NOT exist on a similar system running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1.  So it would appear the problem may be OS specific to Windows 7 Professional (although there are a few forum threads with people experiencing the problem on Macs as well).
That said, here's what happens on the Win7 Pro system:
QuickTime movie encoding fails at 1920x1080 both from a dynamically linked Premiere timeline and from a rendered file.
    TESTS:
    1) H264 video with AAC audio FAILED
    2) H264 video with uncompressed audio FAILED
    3) Uncompressed video with AAC audio FAILED
    4) Sorenson video with uncompressed audio FAILED
    5) Uncompressed 10bit YUV .mov with uncompressed audio WORKED!!!!!
Of course, a :30 second television commercial rendered this way is near 5GB and is not the way most broadcast stations want a file delivered.
To sum up:  all of the HD presets and custom settings for QuckTime with any sort of compression, fail to render on systems running Windows 7 Professional.
Here is a link to a similar issue, but the solution listed did not work in my case.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 fails to encode

I have tried numerous times to Export>Encode but invariably dies part way through the encode. Can anyone please help me know what I am doing wrong, and/or how to fix the problem?

    Sorry, folks...here are my answers:
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).CC 2014.1
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.) Creative Cloud Constantly updating
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac". Windows 8.1
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime". Mostly Panasonic footage .MTS/H.264 1920 x 1080 29.97 fps Progressive
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)? Encode failed [can't remember exact wording...very small error window/message]
What were you doing when the problem occurred? Trying to Encode with Adobe Media Encoder
Has this ever worked before? About 10%-15% success rate FIRST time, eventually up to 100%
What other software are you running? Mostly close down everything else, and set performance options (System Properties) to "Adjust for best performance"
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed? No
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).Windows 8.1 Pro, i7 Quad Core, 8gig RAM, nVidia Optimus, GEFORCE GT555M CUDA 208
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration? Yes
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both? Final output
I just get the "bleating sheep" and then "Quits"
Here it the AME Encoding Error Log: (BTW, it says "The Operation was interrupted by user", but I didn't do anything to interrupt it! It just QUIT!), and as for "Disk Full" I am attaching Screenshot of Disk Properties showing 247 GP Free.

  • Premiere or AME dropping frames in clips in sequence like a time remapping

Very strange issue. I have had it happen twice now with two different projects.
I have a timeline setup as 1080 using the raw MOV files from a Canon 60D. Everything looks good. I then render the media and with the output file, one of the clips looks like it is running at an extremely low frame rate. Maybe 1 frame a second almost. but it does not do this in Premiere. And this is why I think it might be with Premiere and not AME....
I found the file I got the clip form and selected a new segment of video to use as my clip. I inserted it into the timeline just before the one that was giving the frame rate issue. I then removed the clip that had the bad frame rate issue (again, only after it was rendered in AME can you see it in the rendered file..it doesn't do ths within Premiere playing the timeline). I then rendered the project again. This time, the clip I replaced looks fine, but the one right AFTER it now has the same frame drop problem. I have no idea what could be causing this. Neither of the clips have any time ramping. Neither does this in Premiere when I play the timeline. It only shows up in the final file I render, but moves down the timeline to the next clip when I fix the one that did it.
Any ideas on what is causing this? Anyone else ever see this?
    Thanks.

  • Batch export to network drive fails on large clips

SO I have dozens of clips to batch export in full quality uncoompressed format. THey come out anywhere from 1-10 gigs per file.
When I export to a desktop drive everything works great, when I do the same batch export to a network attached storage drive I have all the larger files failing on me.
Has enyone experienced this before and can you help?
    Desktop drive works
Network drive works on smaller file sizes.
    G5 Quad, G5 Dual, G4 PB   Mac OS X (10.4)

ah yes, known but ignored issue no. 456282
files over 2 gigs will not transfer over network when transfer is initiated via FCP, either by export, media manager, or any other process.
doesn't matter if target drive is mac format or otherwise, it doesnt work.
doesn't help, but at least you know its not something you did or didn't do.
    cheers

  • Compressor fails to encode .motn projects

It is vitally important that I can batch encode a few thousand .motn projects directly to mpeg2.
It has been awhile but I remember being able to go directly from motion 3 to compressor 3 for encoding/rendering.
Now for some reason any Motion project I try to encode in compressor, regardless of the target format fails and gives an error that reads : 3X REFERENCE WAS SOMEHOW RELEASED TOO MANY TIMES
The motion project previews in compressor with no problems, it only fails on the encode process.
does anyone have any idea what this is about and what I can do to get compressor to play nicely with motion again.
I tried opening my motion projects directly in quicktime and they played with out problems and I was able to export them to any of my quicktime supported codecs. Unfortunately mpeg2 can only be done via compressor.
    I appreciate any help,
    thanks,
    ryan

You can try reinstalling both Compressor and Motion:

  • Video encoding failed, audio encoding successful, both worked before

I have an .AVI that was provided by a studio.  I used this .AVI in the past (February-ish) to create a .FLV using Media Encoder with no issues.  I have to add a section to the original .AVI now.  When i import the video to the new project, the preview monitor does not show video, but the audio can be heard.  When trying to export as an .FLV it errors out and just says "Encoding Failed: Unknown Error".
I can export the audio fine, but the video causes the error (when separated).  Thinking it was a corrupt file, I obtained original copies from the studio and tried again with no success.
