AME rendering outdated AE content

It appears that AME CC (7.1.0.174) will render dynamic-link content in whatever state it was in when it was opened. Example:
I have a Premiere project that has a text card that is dynamically linked from AE. If I open AME, then hide the text in the AE project and save it and render out the sequence from Premiere the text will render (even though its now hidden). So even though the text is hidden in AE and in the Premiere project, it will still appear in the final render when exported from Premiere to AME.
So the only current work around I've found is that if you make a change in an dynamic linked project, you always have to restart AME to have the changes take effect in the final output.
Is there a solution where AME isn't 'caching' this content?

The AME will not use the GPU's Ray-traced rendering. You have two options, render to a production format to create a DI (digital Intermediate, my preferred method) then compress for delivery using AME or open your AE preferences and choose "Show Deprecated Formats in Output Module Settings" from the Output section of preferences, then render and live with single pass compression. It's better than it used to be but AME will give you a superior product for delivery.

• PP & AME Renders AE Clips Incorrectly

Hello, I've run into a problem I can't seem to resolve and think it may be a bug with AME or with QuickTime. I have a series of animated titles rendered from AE at sequence resolution in the Animation codec. When I bring them into PP and add them to my sequence they all play correctly. However, when I render the sequence, one of the transitions turns blue. The rest render correctly.
This occurs when rendering the sequence in the .Mov container format with the Animation, Motion JPEG, or ProRes 422 codecs, but not when I create an MP4 file through AME or use Dynamic link to send the sequence to Encore.
I've included screen grabs from QuickTime showing the original (warm sepia) version and the AME rendered version (blue).
I've encountered this problem on both a MacBook Pro (2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) running 10.6.5 and PP CS 5.5 and a Mac Pro tower 2 x 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Zenon running 10.6.5 and CS 5.5.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jay

Dennis,
Thanks for your advice. I've deleted the cache files, rendered everything in the work area and exported a couple of versions. The problem isn't resolved, but at least we have some more information to troubleshoot.
The timeline is built at 1024x768 30fps (primary output is digital projector). If I export the clip at 1280x720 the blue doesn't crop up. When I export at native size 1024x768, or half resolution 512x384, the blue appears.
Opening it in QuickTime 7 doesn't help any. I can see the blue clip in QTX, QT7, AME's preview window and in a H.264 version exported from Sorenson Squeeze 6.5.
In PPCS4, I had a similar problem with certain clips if Maximum Render Quality was checked. It doesn't seem to have a bearing on this clip as I get the blue shift with and without Maximum Render Quality Checked.
What's really puzzling to me is that the four transition segments (three of which render correctly) are generated from the same AE comp. I simply turn on and off the necessary layers and render the segment I need. If it was a problem with the AE comp or project, I would think the problem would occur consistently between all four clips.
Lastly, the clip previews correctly in the PP timeline.
What do you suggest as a next step? In the meantime, I'm going to try and replace the affected clip with a direct link to the AE comp and see if that helps.
Best regards,
Jay

• Workaround? - Using Interpret Footage AME renders active content only for original movie length

I submitted a bug on this behavior, but I am hoping that someone has found a workaround or maybe I am just using Interpret Footage incorrectly.
Here is the problem:
1. Import 20 second long 23.976fps source file into AME
2. Right-click item in Queue and choose Interpret Footage
3. Choose "Assume this frame rate:" and set to 18fps - Duration will update as expected to 0:00:26;19
Results:
Output file will have correctly re-timed active content up to 0:00:20;00 and then hold that frame (which correctly corresponds to 0:00:15;00 from the source file) to the end of the file at 0:00:26;18
Expected results:
Output file should contain the full content of the source file re-timed for the new duration.
NOTE: This behavior will also be apparent in the Export settings Preview window prior to encoding.
Mac OSX 10.7.5
AME: 6.0.2.81 (64-bit)

We are actually generating the files ourselves and keeping them 23.976fps (or 25fps for PAL-country clients). We're interpreting the incoming 23.976fps file as 18fps because that is the speed at which it was shot. Super-8 sound film like most other sound film was 'supposed' to be shot / projected at 24fps, but many shooters used 18fps to get more time out of a 50-foot camera load. Our company provides 24p (or 25p) files to clients, and in addition to providing 1 to 1 representations of their film at 23.976fps, we also provide 24p files with duplicate frames inserted so they are easy to work with in NLEs, yet approximate the correct motion for material that was shot at 12, 14, 16, 18 or 20 fps. Our Apple Compressor workflow works great for the 90+% of material that is silent or is sound film shot at 24fps. We would experiment with moving the entire speed-correction workflow to AME if it solved the 18in24 sound problem, and it _almost_ does. The behavior I described is obviously a bug and not 'works as intended' - it will then be a question of whether such an outside use case gets any attention. If I can come up with another use case that would be more popular, then I might get more visibility for the bug. I suppose that some may wish to batch out 24p files from 25p files using the same technique. That is, throw a pile of 25p files into AME, interpret them as 23.976 and write them out to 24p files. I would expect that the last 4% of those files would show a freeze frame...

• AME rendered files are bigger than in Premiere CS6

Hi!
I have a big project - 6 hours prepared for rendering in 4 sequences (each sequence is about 1h 30 minutes - 1h 45 minutes) I try to export them with H.264 - Blu ray default settings. Estimated file size for each sequence is about 17 - 20 GB, but when I export them into AME I got files 52 - 55 GB ! When I export same sequences one by one directly from Premiere CS6 I got 17 - 20 GB files. What's wrong with AME? Same input, same settings but files are more than duble sized?!
Thx!

Here are the screenshots of all export settings related to one of these projects. As you can see estimated file size is 16321 MB and when I click on "export", rendering is about 15% faster and file is about 17 GB. But when I click on "queue" rendering is slower and files are about 52 GB

• Source and Program preview look good, AME renders linked aftereffects very poor

I have searched high and low but cant figure this out:
I have CS4 Master Suite installed on HPZ600 workstation Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5550  @ 2.67GHz, 2661 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 4 Logical     6GB ram.
I created a 720p PremierPro (PP) sequence. I added a “Black Video” then rightClick- replaced it with an aftereffects (AE) comp. I added several screen captures to the AE file and animated a few graphics over the images. When I jump back into PP the source preview (linked Comp) looks great, the Program preview looks good and when I Export media the 1st preview (still in PP) looks good. Once it opens in Adobe Media Encoder the quality (mostly text on white background) looks terrible.
I have tried endless combinations of settings and options with no luck. I render out the AE file and it looks great. Import it into PP, looks great. Send it to AME, looks like poop. If I take the images (used in AE) and import them directly into PP I get a good export in AME but I need them in AF to animate.
If anyone has any info that might help I would be greatly appreciative.
Thanks

No, but that does seem to be a good indicator. When the preview (AME) is bad, the rendered video comes out bad. When it is good, the video comes out good. I just rendered this. The preview showed about 1 second of good quality and then the busted look (with linked AE only, video was good). This is a 1280 x 720 png in AE with no animation or effects.
The linked AE is video2 in PP on top of 720p video in video1. If I create a new sequence and place (copy/paste from the old one) the linked AE alone it previews and renders great. Once I add the video (AE fades in over the video) and have 2 720p elements, the AE will randomly look bad.
Do you think it could be a RAM issue?
Here is an example: This is a rendered WMV about 20 seconds in.
Here is the same WMV 21 seconds in. It is the same image in AE. This quality shift was also identical in the AME window.
thank you for your time and info, I appreciate it.

• AME Rendering Slow

I have some 3D titles that I created in AE CC and I need them encoded as H.264 mp4 at 720x1280, which is not possible in AE anymore. AE will only let me encode an mp4 at 480x720, no matter the setting. I could just send to AME, however, it takes AME over an hour to render what AE renders in virtually ten minutes. I have matched the output settings exactly. I also have a Quadro K5000 GPU to speed up rendering but to no avail, in AME that is. Why is AME render time exponential compared to AE?

The AME will not use the GPU's Ray-traced rendering. You have two options, render to a production format to create a DI (digital Intermediate, my preferred method) then compress for delivery using AME or open your AE preferences and choose "Show Deprecated Formats in Output Module Settings" from the Output section of preferences, then render and live with single pass compression. It's better than it used to be but AME will give you a superior product for delivery.

• Rendering different page content in homepage.

Hi,
I have a homepage with navigation header and footer. On selection of navigation items, the respective content will be rendered in homepage.
How can I do this?
Note: I have not used view.js and controller.js, all the content are in html for each page.

Those are separate articles. You asked about the different sizes in the same article. I missed the part about different size articles…sorry.
You can use smooth scrolling with longer articles but they have to be single pages. Make sure to turn smooth scrolling on and use the _h or _v suffix with the file names.

I'm trying to crrate Mepg2-DVD files for output to dvd, from canon DSLR footage, but somhow AME does not render the whole work area an loses the last 30-40secons of the clip on export.
Any help?
MY AME settings are : Codec : Mainconcept Mpeg Video - quality 5

This happens in both 1 pas an 2 pass vbr, but not when I export to h264 ....this seems to be a bug in AME! Is it possble though? How long has these codecs been around!! ?

Ok, I see this is a Quicktimeplayer mistake .... somehow Quicktime player does not play the wholf of the file. It all seemed fine once I opened it in MPEG streamclip! ^&%$%*$ Half a day waste thinking AME is broken and then it ends up being Apple ... Their software is just getting WORSE!

Hi Vinod,
I tried using af:image like below and its the same issue.I have read in most of the blogs that since this is in the content presenter template, the image has to be displayed using output text with escape set to false.
<af:image source="#{node.propertyMap['REGDEF:Image'].asTextHtml}" id="image5"/>
I am not using anywhere, its just that on the webpage when the image doesnt appear, I tried to see the source of the image using Firebug and it shows following:

• AME CC 2014 Rendering with only One Core

This seems to have just begun recently (within the past month) where AME CC 2014 is only using 1 core (out of 12) to render video. No, this is not the CPU Parking issue - I have made the regedit tweaks and also changed my Power option to Performance, all with no difference in AME. Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders the same video just fine using all 12 cores, so it seems this problem lies not with Windows software, nor Premiere Pro, but just AME CC 2014. Was there a recent AME update that might have included this bug?
Adobe, please look into this and resolve it ASAP. Not being able to queue up video renders is killing my productivity.

I just installed Premiere Pro CC 2014 this week and had the same problem, my media encoding time tripled (3 times longer).
The same sequence in Premiere Pro CC (Old Media Encoder ) still encoded at its normal fast speed.
Only one of my eight cores was running during encoding in Premiere Pro CC 2014.
After making the registry changes (below) all eight cores were running and Premiere Pro CC 2014 Encoder was back to normal speed.
Read Below:
I did a search and found this link below.
Go to this link below and read.
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1506298
After you have read the Adobe Forum link above, go to this link below.
This registry change is for Windows 7, I'm not sure about Windows 8
The registry link may be different but you can still look.
Than call Adobe and have their tech go to this link below.
Than have them suggest what to do.
I did call Adobe back and told them it fixed my problem and they were appreciative and said they would pass it on to all their techs.
http://ultimatecomputers.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3644
Just a note,
I was in touch with Adobe earlier this week with this same problem.
I gave them control of my computer (from India) and after an hour the tech concluded it must be my video card causing the problem.
I am using a Nvidia GTX 560Ti, which is not a certified card. I preformed the card hack.
After getting off the phone with them I did some additional test and found that my old AME rendered my sequences with all eight cores.
The new AME CC 2014 was only using one core.
This registry change above keeps all the cores running.
After I made the change all the cores were running during encoding and the speed was back to normal.
Hope this helps,
The Video Guy

• AME CC renders AE projects progressive (not interlaced)

Hi folks,
we updated to CC 2014.2 last week and are now stuck without fields - and as a broadcaster broadcasting 1080i we desperately need interlaced files!
Here´s the detail:
For a quick demonstation I created a simple AE project (CS6) with a blue bar rotating around the center.
This same composition is opened in AME CS6 and in AME 2014.2 and rendered with the identical settings:
This is the result from AME CS6:
This is the result from AME CC 2014.2
During the last week we tried everything to convince AME 2014.2 to render in fields - but we didn´t succeed...
The only workaround is:
open the AE composition in PremierePro
interpret it as "upper field"
place it into a sequence
send this sequence to AME
Then AME renders it interlaced...
Please note
I´m not talking about interlaced or progressive videomaterial but about the field handling of AE animations itself in AME
under "Quelle/Source" it says "progressive", but you can´t change the interpretation on a AE composition
in AME CS6 it says "progressive" as well but renders out fields
we tried this with several different projects and compositions on different computers (PC and Mac)
scary: identical sources with identical render settings produce different files in AME CS6 vs. AME 2014.2
it´s not just the field/progressive thing - mp4 files from AME 2014.2 are half size than from AME CS6
Thanks for your help - we really need our fields back... ;-)
Best regards
Andreas Schletter
Germany

I just ran a test and here's what I found.
Rendering from CC 2014 using the Render Cue and separating fields in the Project Panel gives you an interlaced file. Rendering from the AME and using h.264 you do not get an interlaced result even if you check the separate fields box. I I also tried Jpeg2000 quicktime from AME with the same result... no progressive render. I even tried doubling the frame rate in the AME, again no progressive render. The only way to get a progressive render in the latest build of the AME is by setting the comp frame rate in AE to double the standard frame rate. In your example 50 fps.
Here's how I test for interlacing.
If the footage is interlaced then there will be different positions for your blue bar for each frame if you drag your progressive footage into the new comp window, verify that the comp is the same frame rate as the footage (25 fps in your example) and that AE is properly interpreting the footage, then double the comp frame rate. if you step through the comp one frame at a time and each frame is different then you have interlaced footage but it is interlaced without the empty scan lines. After Effects has tried to fill in these scan lines as long as I can remember.
Looks like this is a bug. I'll file a report and suggest you do the same. In the mean time, if you have to use the AME to render your deliverables then the workaround is to double the frame rate in the comp before adding it to the cue.

• Why does Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders incredibly slow?

Dear Premiere Pro experts
I created a movie with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and I have serious performance issues when it comes to export the movie.
The first 10% renders pretty fast and takes 1 hour. Then it takes for every additional 1% about 4 hours! (never rendered it to finish so far, 14% max so far)
Here are some facts that might help to isolate the problem:
Project:
Length: 24 minutes in total, splitted into several sequences (up to 4 minutes) and arranged on a "main-sequence"
Input: Cineform AVI files, 1080p, 59fps (I converted GoPro 3+ footage (3D!) using GoPro Studio to the Cineform format for further processing)
Desired Output: Same as input, preserving 3D (Render 3D Intermediate)
Effects used: Warp-Stabilizer (default settings) and Auto-Color (smoothing 1-2 sec) on almost every clip.
Hardware / Software:
i7-3770K @3.5 GHZ (Quadcore)
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 (also tried with a ATI Radeon R9 290X)
Windows 8.1
SSD for OS and programs, RAID 0 for media files and project, separate drive for rendering output.
Then I tried to render using AME using the same settings. The whole video rendered in about 14 hours what is acceptable in my case. There problem here is that the 3D gets lost, even if I selected "Render 3D Intermediate". The picture for the left eye is the same as the one for the right eye. This is not happening when I do a direct export. But the direct export get almost stuck at around 10%.
There is almost no difference in choosing Software-Rendering and GPU. Also, the GPU has almost no load. Premiere Pro uses the CPU for about 45% (total usage 65%) and takes up 5-9 GB of memory (total usage 65%). Disk usage at around 14b/s.
I think there are two problems. One is that AME renders differently (no 3D) and the other is that the direct export takes way too long.
Can someone help me with any of these problems?
Thank you,
Martin

I did some additional research and found out, that the slow rendering happens with this combination:
- Auto-Color using Temporal Smoothing
- Render 3D Intermediate
Without rendering the 3D intermediate, Temporal Smoothing is not a problem. And without temporal smoothing, Rendering 3D Intermediate is not a problem.
Might this be a problem in the codec or in Premiere?

• After Effects & Adobe Media Encoder Rendering Issue

Hi,
First of all, just to give a background, I am running Windows 8 and Adobe After Effects CC. We had purchased the computer 2 weeks ago and I was working on a video and everything was fine in After Effects. I then went to render it using Adobe Media Encoder to get the H.264 file type that AE CC doesn't have anymore. AME rendered the first time but I had to make more changes. I went to render it a second time and AME crashed and my computer blue screened. Now when I go to Add compsition to media encoder the program shows the splash screen but then it crashes every time. So after some research I found that there were output settings that you can check to allow AE to render H.264. I rendered my video the first time and it worked fine. I had some mismatched audio so I had to make some changes to it again. I went to render it a second time this morning and I got an error message that said " After Effects Error: Rendering error while writing file...unable to delete existing file." This also crashed and blue screened my computer, now it won't let me render at all in either program. Are there any fixes to this problem?
Thank You!
Frank

Did you re-boot? Did you try re-booting in safe mode? Did you add anything to your computer or run any updates between the first render and the time this problem started?
Did you try creating a new comp, adding a single solid, and then rendering? If that works tell us about your source files including type and compression.
If that fails then make sure that you have run all the updates. Then, make sure you have not installed any 3rd party codec packs. Then, dig up the error log and look for anything you can find that starts with "unable" or "crash" and that may give you a hint.

• Urgent: how to print the contents displayed in JTextPane

hi all,
i've a problem printing the contents typed in styled format in JTextPane, when i print the contents nothing is printed. can anyone tell how can i print the contents typed in styled format or so. the code for implementing the print is given below.
class ContentsArea extends JTextPane implements Pritable {
public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pf, int pi) throws PrinterException {
if (pi >= 1) {
return Printable.NO_SUCH_PAGE;
Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g;
g2d.translate(pf.getImageableX(), pf.getImageableY());
g2d.translate(pf.getImageableWidth() / 2,
pf.getImageableHeight() / 2);
Dimension d = getSize();
double scale = Math.min(pf.getImageableWidth() / d.width,
pf.getImageableHeight() / d.height);
if (scale < 1.0) {
g2d.scale(scale, scale);
g2d.translate(-d.width / 2.0, -d.height / 2.0);
return Printable.PAGE_EXISTS;
}i'd be grateful to all ppl who helps me.
Afroze.

What's the exact problem? The printer printing a blank sheet or the printer not doing anything at all? First make sure in the main program you've got something along the lines of...
import java.awt.print.*;
PrinterJob printerJob = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
PageFormat pageFormat = printerJob.defaultPage();
if(!printerJob.printDialog()) return; //not essential but lets the user tweak printer setup
pageFormat = printerJob.pageDialog(pageFormat); //ditto
printerJob.setPrintable(this, pageFormat);
print(...);
The above code should go in an ActionListener, triggered when the user hits a print button or menuitem. I'm guessing you already have something similar set up.
Then your print(...) method should be similar to
public int print(Graphics g, PageFormat pageFormat, int pageIndex)
if(pageIndex>0) return NO_SUCH_PAGE;
Graphics2D gg = (Graphics2D)g;
gg.draw(whatever's going to be printed);
return PAGE_EXISTS;
Which it is, although yours has clever scaling stuff built in ) The only thing you're not doing is rendering the actual content.
So if you want the contents of the textpane, it'd make sense to use something like g.drawString(myTextPane.getContents()); in the print method. Note it's g and not g2d, since Graphics2D has more complicated text handling routines.
I'm no expert tho )

• ADF UIX: How to use MessageCheckbox to trigger a component to be rendered?

I have two UIX component:
messageCheckBox model="${bindings.Servicelocal}"
and messageStyledText id="mst_TextChange".
I want messageStyledText to be showed if messageCheckBox was checked.
I want to know how to set the “rendered” property of the MessageStyleText.
The following is my uix xml code:
<rowLayout>
<contents>
<cellFormat>
<contents>
<messageStyledText id="mst_TextChange" text="${bindings.Servicelocal}" rendered="${bindings.Servicelocal}"/>
</contents>
</cellFormat>
<cellFormat>
<contents>
<messageCheckBox model="${bindings.Servicelocal}" >
<end>
<formValue model="${ctrl:createCheckBoxState(bindings.Servicelocal)}"/>
</end>
<primaryClientAction>
<firePartialAction event="ShowHide_Text" unvalidated="true" targets="mst_TextChange"/>
</primaryClientAction>
</messageCheckBox>
</contents>
</cellFormat>
</contents>
</rowLayout>

I think you're on the right track here.
Assuming that the values for Servicelocal are 'Y' and null, what you could do is use EL to define the rendered component as follows:
rendered="${!empty bindings.Servicelocal.inputValue}"
or alternatively:
rendered="${empty bindings.Servicelocal.inputValue ? false : true}"
I'm writing this from home so can't check the above but you get the idea.
Note the use of ".inputValue" to retrieve the actual value of Servicelocal.
I note your use of the <firePartialAction> tag in the <messageCheckBox>. Please note I recently found a bug (I've raised this with Oracle Support) where the <firePartialAction> causes the running page to ignore any user input for some seconds (5 sec?) when fired from a <messageCheckBox>. Your mileage may vary.
Hope this helps.
