American Heritage Dictionary version#
I bought the American Heritage Dictionary and awhile back updated to version 2.0. The icon had a little red "2" next to it (which was a bit annoying, but that's another issue). Anyway, I had to restore my iPhone and when I did the dictionary installed fine, but there is no little red "2" in the icon on my phone, BUT there is one on the icon in my iTunes folder. When I check the version in iTunes it is 2.0, but I can't find any way to check if the version on my phone is 2.0. I even deleted the app on my phone, reinstalled it and still no little red "2."
Advice?
It's the same, current version. The icon that appears in iTunes is the one from the iTunes Store for that app, but not the same as the one that appears on the iPhone. Many icons in the Store have little added graphics such as "On Sale" dots or "80% off" banners. Those show up in the Applications section of your iTunes library, but not on the iPhone. The name can be different too.
Note that it's possible that the developer goofed and released a version where they had the wrong icon image designated for the app installed on the phone, and subsequently updated the app to correct that. I do recall one app where the 'changes in this version' listed only a change to the iPhone icon (but it wasn't the app you're referring to here).

I bought the American Heritage Dictionary app last year.
Thru the app I purchased thge elctronic dictionary.
I switched iPads. The app is no longer in the app store so I
had to rerload from iTunes. But now I can't restore my purchase as the

What do I do?If you have neglected to make a secure backup copy and the app is no longer available in the Mac App Store, there isn't anything that you can do. Apple reminds folks continually that they need to backup their iTunes & Mac App Store content because if it is removed at some future date, then it can no longer be downloaded.
VLC for iOS was removed from the iTunes App Store. I only have it to install on newer iOS devices because it is still in my iTunes content library and that is backed up at least twice. -

The installation completes without any errors on my VM running Windows Server 2012 R2, however its not recognized in VS2013 ? It also breaks the Publish functionality when I try and publish a web site to my hosting provider.I tried install, uninstall, reinstall cycle several times without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Visual Studio takes long time to start up
When starting Visual Studio on my machine it used to take a few seconds to start up and be ready to either open or create a new project. Recently however I am finding that it is hanging - stuck on "Updating the News Channel" and "Connecting
to " Visual studio Online. It remains unresponsive until these actions are completed. I have a fast internet connection and a fast computer with solid state drive. I have not experienced any issues browsing using IE or using other applications.
Is there any suggestion that can help improve this situation?
This is the version and installed packages. I am using Windows 8.1 Professional 64Bit

What does "Updating the news Channel" mean? You mean that open the VS IDE, and then some links or videos showed in the start page.
Maybe you could change some settings in your VS IDE under TOOLS->Options.
As you said that the VS hanging when it connected to VSO, one idea is that you could post an issue to the VSO forum:

In addition, for the performance issue, we would think about many elements.
For example, the machine configurations, run the VS for a long time(we often restart the VS), the temp files(clean them), or the add-ins or extension tools (you could disable them), the third party processes in your task manager which make the CPU is high
or others.

From looking at the build it looks like the web part is building correctly but the application isn't passing validation, I have no idea why since it is the default app, I've made Office Apps on previous machines without a problem.

I’m trying to reproduce your issue but failed.
Here is my steps:
#1 Install Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2013
#2 Install Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013
#3 Create a new Apps for Office project and rebuild
According your error message, the failed step is ValidatePackage, I suspect it is an environment issue, but I cannot identify the root cause basing on the information you post.
Have you tried to re-install the Visual Studio and Microsoft Office Developer Tools for Visual Studio 2013 or test it on another machine with Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2013?

In the expression editor dialog box my TAB key doesn't function correctly
This is bizarre behavior that seems to have started recently.
In Visual Studio 2012, an SSRS project, any expression editor dialog:
The tab key doesn't work right.
Open the expression editor and:
* I see a blinking cursor and I can type in the expression box.
* If I hit the tab key, the cursor disappears and I cannot type. I appear to lose focus in the editor but focus doesn't appear to go anywhere else in the dialog box.
* If I hit the tab key a 2nd time, the cursor is still gone and I cannot type.
* If I hit the tab key a 3rd time, I can finally type again and note that I am now
3 tabstops in. In other words it seems like the tabs were working but I lost the ability to type anything until I "tab" 3 magical times.
I can work around this by hitting tab key then grabbing the mouse and clicking where the cursor SHOULD be which returns focus to the text area.

According to your description, as you said that the cursor disappears and cannot type issue. It seems that the issue may be not Visual Studio the VS IDE issue.

Transfer app from one iPhone to another - no longer in App store
I have just received my iPhone 5s. On my 4s I have an app (American Heritage Dictionary) that is no longer available in the App store, so it's no longer listed among my purchased apps, even though it cost $30. Any idea how I can transfer it from the old phone to the new one?

If so, not goo, then transfer it to your computer from the iphone: File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
Everything should be kept on your computer and you should always maintain a backup copy of your computer. -
Cannot write configuration file
Hello,
I have a problem loading up a project I have taken over from some one else. I need some guidance as I can't seem to find the solution. However im not that familiar with .NET or MVS as I once
was. The message I get is as follows :-

Creation of the virtual directory localhost:49623/ failed with the error: Filename: \\?\C:\Users\firstname.surname\Documents\IISExpress\config\applicationHost.config
Error: Cannot write configuration file
However I have checked the permissions and can't see anything obvious. Under guidance from another developer I have also updated :-

How to avoid having to clean a portable class library every time?
WinRT Project Foo references a portable class library PCLFoo. Whenever a change is made to Foo and it is run (by pressing F5 or Ctr+F5), the following error occurs:
The type or namespace name 'PCLFoo' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)
Everything will be fine after cleaning PCLFoo (right-click >Clean). Is there a way to avoid having to do this cleaning every time?

the database has around 400 tables and there are statistics. The execution plan is insane.
The DB version is 11.2.0.1.0OS Windows 7 64 bit and Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate edition with SP1 beta.
I don't understand why this problem is related to dev tool or OS.
Because if I execute entity framework schema sql with sqldeveloper I don't get results quickly.

We're getting this error when we try to build our Windows Phone packages
Visual Studio was unable to verify your developer account. Either the store is unavailable . Either the store is unavailable or an unexpected network error has occurred
Any idea?I am having the same problem. The message I see when trying to Create App Packages, during the login process which is failing after I enter the texted security code is: "Visual studio was unable to verify your developer account. Either the store is

I can log in to the https://dev.windowsphone.com/ via the web browser just fine, and can see my dashboard, etc. However, I'm completely blocked at this point because I can't build package for a new release
of my one existing app (which I published via this process successfully back on 5/29/2014)

Dear Colleagues
I have recently managed to find the length of the hypotenuse given the lengths of the two opposing sides using sqrt.
I have read that sqrt must be placed after Math because it is part of that class's family.
Just so that I can practice a bit other Math classes, does anybody know which keywords I can use? For instance, how could I use cubic root? Incidentally, why is it Math and not Maths? Isn't it mathematicS?

What's wrong with my iPhone 3G???
I was a happy owner of my original iphone and ever since I switched to iPhone 3G, I am so frustrated with iphone 3G. First, the battery really *****. That we all know, and it seems nothing we can do about it. But what about the constant crashed that happened so often? It's been a couple of times that when I tried to launch an application (even apple's own one), the iphone reset! I also got the "No Music" in ipod error once in a while, and this absolutely seems to be related to the software. And the only "temporary" fix of this error is to restore the iphone. When I used original iPhone for 7+ months, I only restored it once. And this iphone 3G I already restored it more than 10 times. And I don't know what's going on but each restore takes at least 2 hours What's wrong? Moreover, whenever I connect my iphone to itunes, it will go backup, and backup will take an hour almost every time!!
So now I am with a phone that once in a while will suddenly got no music in ipod to play and need a 2 hours restoration. This is simply HORRIBLE! I tried to search online and it seems this error got no fix yet and maybe related to some applications. But still, those applications we paid and Apple got a commission from it. So even it's 3rd party, Apple should still be kind of pay a closer attention to it.
I am so sick of the restoration process. And each restoration takes so long also makes no sense, and my iphone 3g became so hot after each long restoration. There are even a couple of times the iphone just hanged and frozen during the restoration (I waited over night). And I have to unplug it (even it says not to) and reset the iphone, luckily the phone still functions. But I mean, what the heck? Buying something like this makes me so angry and frustrated. Don't get me wrong though, I have been a loyal Apple customer for almost 10 years now, owned more than 5 laptops and 2 iMacs and a couple of iPods and original iphone, but iPhone 3G is really the worst! I mean it got excellent potential, but all will be wasted if I need to keep restoring and backing up and run out of batteries so fast.
The most frustrated part come from when I went to "genius bar" at Century City, CA, the "genius" there was so impatient, every single question I brought up, he was like that's normal, that's right, that's what happened. So he admitted iPhone 3G battery *****, 3G reception is spotty, and the software got glitches. I was like, so what the heck are you selling this to me? So frustrated.

There does seem to be a bug with the current firmware that can cause a crash when doing app uploads and syncs. This bug seems to be exacerbated by having large and many apps.
I was experiencing frequent crashes, but have no more - even with 70 apps installed - some of them large like the American Heritage Dictionary which is several hundred megabytes. I did the following:
1. I set iTunes to NOT do autosyncs every time I plug in. This setting is in the Itunes preferences.
2. I disabled the autobackups in iTunes for the iphone. I figured that if it did crash and it was going to take 2 hours to restore, why not just reload. The instructions are readily found using google search; it involves a command line setting. Anyway, the phone doesn't crash anymore since doing this.
3. I no longer install apps using the iPhone. I first install the app in iTunes and the I manually sync it to the iphone. I avoid doing multiple installs at once; at least for the large apps. Right click on each app and get its info from within itunes. If it is large, it is going to take time to backup.
4. I always first shut off the iphone and restart it before installing any apps in itunes. This clears any memory issues left behind from use.
I am going to continue to do these procedures until Apple releases a fix for the bugs relating to the apps.
As noted, since I took these steps, I have had no crashes. I was crashing at least once every 1-2 days before with the same or less number of apps. I too was a first gen iPhone user and was very frustrated with the 3G experience. Since doing the above, I am once again a very happy and productive iPhone 3G user. I know its a pain to do this, but the bugs will get fixed at some point. I would never go back to my old phones - they were just phones. -

After upgrading to iOS 8.02 my apps to stream the show OnBeing crashes when I try to listen to a story and my app for the American Heritage Dictionary 5 crash when I go into the search function. Any ideas on how to fix this? I've already deleted and reinstalled the apps and the crashing is still a problem. Any thoughts would be welcome.
The first thing to try is resetting your iPad. HOld down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and then try again.
Then you can try to force close the apps, forcing them to reboot and maybe fixing the issue. Double tap the home button. Flick the preview for all the apps up and off the screen until all you have left is the home page preview. Tap on that then try to reopen your apps again.
The last thing to do is a restore. You back up your device, then erase all content and settings, then restore from the backup you just made. If you've backed everything up you won't lose any data but you give both the apps and the iOS a clean slate.
