Amex Delta Skymiles

I got an invitation to apply for this card... and I am thinking about it. I could really use some help to afford some plane tickets to take a nice vacation. Can someone please explain the card to me, it says I get 1 mile for every dollar spent... and you need 10,000 in miles to get $100 off a plane ticket. Is that correct? That doesn't seem like a good deal at all, spend $10,000 to get $100 off? Basically that is 1% cash back, which is not as good as my other cards, and is eaten up by the $99/year annual fee. It does say you can get up to 11 miles as a skymiles medallion member... I did a brief search and I can't really figure out what this is. Is this some kind of program you need to heavily pay into to get anything out of it? It does give 35,000 bonus miles which is good for a few hundred bucks... They pull Ex exclusively correct? That is my worse score and I have one disputed collection on there. I have no other negatives, but I do have 2 recent accounts and I think 4 inqs in the last 6 months. Score is 675 or thereabouts. Do they use Ex for the prequalify offers? Thanks for the help.

This is AMEX Gold Delta Skymiles, correct? Some of the data you provide is a little off.Are you already flying Delta, already a SkyMiles member? It sounds like maybe not? They pulled EX for mine in June 2013, that seems to be commonly noted. easy enough. The AF is $95, small point. Waived for the first year, the first $95 would be charged on statement #13. For general spend you get 1 SkyMile for each $1 spent. This goes into your Delta SkyMiles Frequent Flyer account, which also earns miles from flights you take on Delta, or if you fly on a partner airline like Alaska and tell them to route the miles earnings to your Delta SkyMiles account. For tickets you buy through the Delta booking site (competitively priced, "best price guarantee" so no reason not to) and pay with your AMEX Delta card, then you earn 2 SkyMiles per $1 spend on those tickets and related items. When getting on the plane, you get a free first checked bag for each person in your entourage, worth $25 each. Second bag still charged, but pack light.AMEX SkyMiles cardholders are also part of the "early boarding" group, along with the Medallion members. This is one of the nicest perks. You can also get into the Delta lounges for a day fee of about $27. The Delta SkyMiles Medallion program is earned by flying x miles and incurring $x spend to get to Silver (25,000 miles + $2,500 ticket spend for example) Gold (more) Platinum and Diamond (something like 125k miles flown in 12 months). If you aren't flying a lot, you may not get to these levels, but it's possible. The 11 Miles quote is the mileage earned per $ spent on tickets. If you are a SkyMiles Frequent Flyer member (regardless if you have a Delta AMEX card) then the tickets you buy go into your SkyMiles account based on your Medallion status:General Member 5 miles / $1 spent buying Delta tickets, Silver Medallion 7miles / $1 spent on tickets, etc. Diamond (if you fly a ton), yes you can earn 11 miles per $1 spent on Delta tickets. In addition to this, if you paid for the tickets purchased through Delta with your Delta SkyMiles credit card, you'd get 2 miles additional per $1 spent on the ticket. The miles that go into your SkyMiles account, either from spend of all kinds on this card, or miles flown/tickets purchased all add up. One option to use the miles is to pay down your ticket cost, which may be 10,000 miles to get $100 off the ticket cost, but you are correct, this is not the best use of the miles. Instead, you want to accumulate the miles, and then use the miles outright for purchasing a ticket. For example, you can book a one-way cross country flight in the US for 12,500 miles, where that one way ticket may cost $200-$400 depending on timing, how far out it is purchased, whether it leaves in only a few days, etc. Sometimes the cost is 20,000 miles one way, depending on popularity, but on the Delta booking tool they make it clear how you can find the lower miles (or lower $ cost) tickets when planning your trip. You can also toggle between Miles vs Dollars as the currency, and see how comparable days and similar flight arrangements cost. The other, longer term use of the miles is to build up even more of them, and then use them for overseas flights. The value of the miles when used for tickets can be anywhere from "a little better" (say 1.2c per mile) to "much better" (I recently booked two one-ways for my daughter to make a round trip, for 32,500 miles and it works out to 1.6c per mile value) and sometimes, on overseas, "a lot better" over 2c per mile. You do have to be patient and shop a bit to make the most of those miles, but 1c is giving up too early

  • AMEX Delta Skymiles Approved

After months of applying for this card, AMEX finally let me in with a $2000 line.  Not the best, but its something.  I've been unable to get any of my other lines with AMEX increased so this definitely makes me more hopeful. Problem is, my CSP is much more flexible, so I will probably only use this card for Delta purchases only.

Congrats! I just got approved for the Delta AMEX this week with an AMAZING bonus offer. They only gave me a $1000 SL but they are giving me 60,000 bonus miles for only $1k spend. Maybe they will see fit to increasing my limit with a little usage. Enjoy your new card!Wow, how did you get the bonus offer? They sent it to me via email so I think it was a targeted offer. I'm a frequent Delta flyer so maybe that is why they chose me. My CS isn't that great so that couldn't be it LOL

  • Delta Skymiles Page goes wonky

If I (try to) log in to the Delta SkyMiles web page from my main volume, I keep getting Certificate Warnings" ...can't verify the identity of the website...", I click continue and the page breaks, i.e., the menus don't show up and there are question mark icons all over the page.
Now, If I try the same site/login from a different volume on the same computer, (same network) it works just as it should, also, it works fine if I try it at the computer at work (all using Safari 3.2.3).
I've run Applejack, Cocktail, deleted the Safari prefs as well as all cookies associated with the problem site, cleared history and emptied the cache all with no joy.
I can't figure out why it won't work on my main volume yet it works fine on another, and it works on two computers at work (one Tiger, one Leopard) AND why do I get certificate warnings on the problem volume but none on the others?
Any insight on this would be appreciated.
    Geoff

OK, about a week ago I had problems with my keychain and deleted the keychain contents in my System folder, (as opposed to the User folder), anyways I copied the keychain items from a backup and now all's well. Evidently a bunch of (trusted) certificates are in that keychain folder and if they get moved or deleted Safari has nothing to compare to, so, problems.

  • Amex Delta Gold Skymiles card (need some advice/reassurance)

I applied for this card (has a $95 annual fee but waived the first year) on June 28, 2015 and immediately regretted doing so. I really didn't think it through and only did it because the week leading up to the 28th I was hanging out with my brother and he had one and I thought I would use it a lot, etc. Stupid, I know. I canceled it the following Monday (29th), literally less than 24 hours after being approved. The gentleman confirmed I closed the account at my (the consumer's) request. I got email confirmation, and then another day later another email. I still got the card in the mail since it was already mailed out, but never activated it of course and the sticker is still on it. Further, I called Amex and entered in the 15-digit card number and got through some prompts that ultimately said the account was deleted, but that I could reopen it within 90 days if I do so wish. My questions: 1) Is it possible that if I keep this card, can I call and get the fee waived every year? 2) If I have to pay the $95 fee next year, how is it charged? Over 12 months, all at once the first month of your new year? 3) If I keep the account closed as it is now, will it ever show as an account on my credit report? I realize it'll be a hard inquiry, but my hope was to have it NOT show up as an account as to not lower my AAOE. It would literally have been open for 23 hours..... I figure that if it WILL show as an account, I might as well call the number again and go through the prompts to reopen the account.... I've never opened and closed an account within 24 hrs so I have no idea what moving parts are at play here.  Already have: Capital One Card ($750 limit - first credit card, really don't use anymore), Discover It ($2,850 limit - really don't use anymore), Chase Sapphire ($10,000 limit - I pay most of my bills and expenses with this when not using my debit card).

It won't benefit you at all. It will not benefit me at all. Like I said it was a hasty, stupid decision to even apply for it. I really just want to know what to expect on my credit report. Per Credit Karma, my score is consistently around 768.... I always pay my balance in FULL at the end of each month. Basically like using a loan for each month and always repaying it. I've never paid a penny of interest and all payments are on time.. some more begrudgingly than others.

  • Delta Skymiles AMEX Gold Approved with Bankruptcy!!

Just got an instant approval online!!  Credit line is $2,000.  I have applied about 4 times for this card over the past few years, declined each time.  They checked Experian my Fico score is 664 and I have 30+ inquires (i'm a credit junkie too...I have no comprehension of "gardening" LOL) mostly on TU, not sure exactly how many I have with Experian. At any rate my bankruptcy is still on my credit reports until November 2015 so there was definitely some divine intervention at work.    On a side note, I got declined last week for the State Farm Visa and the Alaska Airlines Visa.  Applied for the new Orbitz Visa right before I applied for this one and got the 7-10 day message.  Really wanted another travel card (had the American Airlines credit card a few years ago but got behind on the payments so ended up closing and settling the account for less than what was owed on it) so I'm good now.

  • Upgrade from AMEX Delta Gold to Platinum?

So I'm preapproved for an upgrade from the Gold Delta AMEX to the Platinum.  I can't tell too much difference in the rewards other than the Gold has a $99 Companion Ticket and the Platinum has the annual Companion Certificate.  I fly Delta a good deal and they are my rewards card of choice.  This deal also gives 15K miles and 5K MQM after the first purchase.  The difference in the AF is from $90 for the Gold to $150 for the Platinum.  There is also a spending bonus on the Platinum which I will probably not reach. All in all, it sounds okay.  Nothing great, but nothing lost either.  Any way you look at it I will get the AF back through the Companion Certificate and do even better when you add in the miles earned. Any comments?  Anyone have any experience with this upgrade? Thanks for your thoughts.

Its really not hard to get approved for a charge card. Personally unless you travel enough to make the airport lounge perk a value worth $400,  The Premier Rewards Gold with polnt multipliers and your first year of AF waived,  The main reason to just add another card instead of upgrading is  the free backdating goodness.

  • Amex delta Gold 40k miles (targeted)

Check your emails , snail mails i got targeted for 40k miles after $1k spend plus a $50 statement credit after 1st purchase , i know its not the best offer , since sometimes they will make it up to 50k for 1k spend , but it beats the current 30k miles after 1k spend PUBLIC offer

It was me!! They sent me a targeted offer for 60K points and a $50 statement credit. I jumped all over that bad boy! LOLHeavenlyFlower wrote:

  • AMEX for all things travel?

So, I'm a huge lover of Chase - specifically their CSP product.  I view this as one of the best cards to have for traveling, especialy since I travel of SWA often, and when I don't, if I book through UR, I get 3x's back.  I do not think any other card does this. In about a year from now, I know I will likely close a few accounts.  I was just approved for the AMEX Delta Skymiles cards however its benefits to me are limited.  I really only got it for the signup bonus and after the first year, I'm not sure I can justify it with the AF.   Many people seem to rave about AMEX's MR points.  Is the reward system for the cards that utilize MR points more valuable than the CSP in conjunction with UR? Thanks

I'm not impressed with amex. I got delta. Not because of amex or easiness to get card. Over other airline cards. But mainly because even with small benefits. They are the real only major player does flies everywhere internationally. Not JetBlue my other favorite nor southwest. So,after my Asian trip Xmas. I will pc my delta. Hello, What will you PC your delta card to? Also, for the AMEX Gold Premier, what is the redemption rate for airline miles?  Ex. if you use the AMEX travel site, will the point value be the same as what it would be if you were booking with Delta directly?   I can totally see myself using the AMEX Gold card as it is a truely versitile card as far as point earnings. Will pc to no AF Hilton card. I also think I could pc to SPG. But Hilton wIll do. I know, some will say nthe bonus points. But looks like amex foes not want yo give me a 3rd card. I apped for business simply cash. Denied. Even low util. And 0 balances on my amex. Maybe i should cancel  my green. They might wake up.

  • Delta Gold Amex

Just logged onto the Delta website to check my flight and on the advertisement pane on the right it had 50k miles and $50 credit after spending $1000.00 in three months.  Not quite as good as the 60K offer floating around out there but still better than the standard 30k offer. I applied and was approved for 2k limit.  My EX is 669 and I have 5 unpaid baddies for medical last one updated in April.

Congrat's. I really love my Amex Delta PLAT card. I took full advantage of the 60K offer and $100.00 statement credit. It's definitely a "keeper" for me as I fly Delta frequently. Enjoy the miles !!!

  • Two amex approvals, one on hold, should I cancel the hold application?

Hey everyone, This is my second little "spree". Fico score is around 780-790 according to credit karma. I applied for the Blue Cash Everyday and was instantly approved with a 20k starting limit. I then applied for the Amex Gold Delta skymiles and was told to call in because they wanted to speak with me. I called and they told me that application was put on hold for 5 days because of their system and to call back then to see if it'll get approved. No credit report was pulled yet for the Delta Gold but they will when the application goes through on the 5th day.. I then applied for the Amex PRG and was instantly approved. Now i'm considering canceling the Gold Delta Skymiles because I'm satisifed with getting the PRG and BCE combo. What do you guys think I should do? I don't need the Gold Delta Skymiles and i'd rather not take the hard pull. The only thing holding me back is the affect on my credit score by canceling the application while it's on hold and also the 35k bonus points.

well, if you can handle all the bonus spend requirements, that's the first consideration.if they haven't started with the HP yet, you could call in to exctly verify that, then request the Delta card app to be cancelled.Do you fly Delta at all? That card is a nice set of perks if you do, even 1-2 times per year. The final consideration is that there are a few folks reporting 60k Delta targeted offers. 35k is fine, but you may want to ice this app to try to see if they'll send you a 60k offer. No certainty that will happen, of course, but if you take the 35k you can't get the 60k. I don't know what effect cancelling the app has on the overall scheme of bonus miles awards, however. Hopefully it would be a clean quit. lots of uncertainty in this situation. Good luck, and congratulations on the PRG and high SL for BCE.

  • Amex Everyday easier to get than Blue Cash?

My last three baddies wil fall off my Experian in October and I wanted to get an Amex Blue Cash Everyday to basically buy all my food and fuel and stuff with to earn cash back, but from what I've read, the regualar Everyday card (the grey/silver one) might be easier to obtain.   Once those negatives fall off I should be looking at a mid 600's score with 9 inquiries and very small balances on my few other cards that I keep that way on purpose. (My TU is the best right now with no negatives, but trying to get Amex to pull TU is not an easy task, from what I've read here and there.)

I highly doubt that there's a difference in underwriting for these two cards. I've had many AmEx revolvers over the years, and the only one I noticed that had easier underwriting criteria is the cobranded Gold Delta Skymiles card. +1 For what it's worth, I got a BCP (and a Green card) with two 6-year old COs, and I also had a BK7 in 2000 in which an Amex account was included.  My EX at time of approval in April was 695.Whaaaat? Wow lucky! Also, there is quite a difference for someone with a 695 Fico score and someone in the mid-600s when it comes to approvals by Amex. I still believe the BCP has tougher UW requirements than the ED... but I was too chicken to test this theory out so I only tried for the ED card I agree with you as well.  And you're right, I was very lucky to be able to get 'back in' with Amex.    Actually, I applied for the Green card expecting to get declined, just to get a 'free' copy of my Experian FICO.  Well, surprise, surprise, it was approved!  The only 'problem', though, is I honestly didn't (and still don't) have much use for a charge card.  So I had read about the '2-for-1' HPs with Amex, and I decided to go for the BCP,  which is what I really would have wanted to begin with... and it was approved as well.  Granted, I only got a $1K SL and after the promo the APR is 21.9%, but that's OK.  I just use it at Kroger and Publix, and I PIF each month, collecting 6% back for groceries.  Rinse, and repeat...  In case you're wondering, yes, Amex does 'remember' what happened 15 years ago.  About two weeks after my approval, when I logged in online, instead of saying "Member since 2015" it started saying "Member since 1995".  Also, I was denied a CLI, and the letter said it was due to "...previous account experience with American Express", or something like that.  So it will likely be a long time before I get a CLI, if ever, but for my purposes I have what I need. They remember what happened 35 years ago. A day after I got my ED in January, the MSD changed to 1980.

Generally speaking, would the Gold Delta Skymiles be the easier one to be approved for? Edit: One thing I have noticed is that the offers are higher than if I look up those same cards in an incognito window (50K bonus miles and $250 bonus, as opposed to 35K miles and $150 bonus).Well the Delta card is generally considered to be the easiest of the Amex cards to get approved for.  What a lot of people do is apply for a charge card and then revolver back to back and most often that results in only one HP. Whatevef bonus program you apply under make sure you take a screenshot of the page.  Helps if there ever is any disputes.

  • American Express Delta Gold Card

I have tried to speak to someone in customer service now at least 3 times about getting a CLI, I have been a member since 1984 and have a limit of 1000, I have submitted a request many times for an increase, always rejected. I purchased 6 first class tickets on Delta and couldn't even use the card. The tickets cost 5100. The first 2 times I called after waiting or in the middle of the conversation the phone call got dropped or I got hung up on, tonight I was on the phone for 20 minutes when they transfered me to customer service, not in the USA, after finally getting transfered to the person that I was suppose to be able to talk to about my credit line she told me she did not have a good connection and that I would have to call back.  I am sorry but they have #### poor service, and I am upset!!!!!!!!!!!! Just needed to vent !   Sorry

well, your scores are high enough for the card. do you use it for anything else? I really cant envision myself using my amex delta gold for anything other than delta stuff....even then my PRG has 3x points for flights booked direct with carrier.  Why dont you google amex PRG 50k from private window.... if you apply and get denied its only a soft pull. This is a charge card that must be paid in full every month...not sure if they would let you run all those tickets thru but you can always see. Same goes with delta, you could get on amex.com and see if they approve a purchase above limit, it must be paid at due date (anything over ur limit).   I have had the card for 2 years, I have used the card every which way I can, light, heavy, PIF, make large payments etc, no luck, the always mention that my score is the reason, when I got the card my score was 626, so at that time I understand why my limit was 1000, but after 2 years really????????  I have not had any late payments in closed to 6 years, 2 of the 3 baddies that I had on my report when I got the card have come off, and my score is about 50 points higher than it was when I first got the card. So I pay the 95.00 fee for a 1000 card that is useless except small purchases because it doesn't have enough spending power. I don't want to give up the card because I have a 32 year member since date.  A couple of years back I could actually purchase a couple of tickets on the card, but since airline ticket prices have increased over the past year of so, the same flight that was about 500 a couple of years ago from my home town is now about 1300, rediculousman that really stinks! I dont think they allow backdating for additional cards anymore after earlier this year. Now you could consider a product change to a no annual fee card. Maybe doing a PC would let you keep the date? The ED would be an option, or BC, or Hilton.... I mean, why care about the 32 year if they hold you down with a 1k limit.. We need more info here on how much you are acutally charging and paying off.... amex does use experian primarily and I see that is your lowest score unfortunately... Sometimes you just have to move on from a card company if they cant work for you. And really....that date...is just that...a date on the card... its not like it was earlier in the year where you could apply for a 2nd, 3rd, etc card and get it backdated and have it not only on the card but I think it also was dated on your credit report.....My PRG and my Delta are back dated on my credit report to 1984, and really help with my AAOA. The new rule came out after I got my cards. Not really looking for new AE cards, just to grow the ones I have. Experian has always been my lowest score, I have 1 baddie, a 6 year old paid judgement that will fall off next year, maybe earlier. I don't know why it remains the way it is. My score on exp hardly ever fluctuates more than 10 points. Utilization about 12% or so.right but wouldnt a product change let you keep the date on the credit report, just not on the card???? If you can pc and keep the date on CR, then switch to a no AF version, and then go to another bank. You may find some luck contacting their executive office, but I have no experience in that.  So you have tried 3x CLI every 90 days for how many years?I have had the delta card since July 2013

  • What's the easiest AmEx Card to get approved for?

So I'm starting to set some goals for myself as far as credit goes after not really paying too close attention to my scores. By this time next year, I'd like to have a score in the low to mid 700's and ideally get an AmEx card for my wallet. What's the easiest card to apply and be approved for?

The easiest to get is Amex Delta card.  But if you are planning on applying next year and your scores will be in the 700s, you should be able to get other cards also.
