  • Can i hook up my Macbook unibody to my iMac (2007 model), and use them as one computer ?

I have an iMac 20" which i bought in 2007. Then in nov 2009 i bought a white macbook unibody. I've got ableton Live running on both computers and what i want to do is, use my iMac as a main computer and my macbook as a support computer. I have a few questions.
    1) Can i upgrade the processor of my iMac ?
    2) Can i use my Macbook as a second screen ?
    3) Will the upgraded processor help in the performance of the running sofwares ?
    Please help!
    Billz270

    1) No. The iMac's processor is part of the logic board and cannot be replaced with a different one.
    2) No. The MacBook does not have video in capability.
    3) It might, but see answer 1.
    Best of luck.

  • MacBook Unibody (late 2008): audio + video to HDTV

Have a MacBook Unibody (late 2008), and after reading forums, purchased a miniDP -> HDMI cable as well as a miniToslink to Toslink cable (3.5mm jack to Digital Audio Output).  Video works fine, but unfortunately, even with the red LEDs shining bright, no sound comes through to my 2009 Samsung HDTV.
In preference -> sound -> output, digital out / digital optical-out port is selected, but it does also say "the selected device has no output controls."  iTunes music does not play with the Toslink cable in but will resume after the cable is removed.
Is it a setting on my MacBook or Samsung TV that I need to adjust?  Is it a specific HDMI port I need to use with the Digital Audio Output (Optical) line to audio in sound (no number appears)?
Really appreicate any insight you might have!

I was going to do the same thing then after reading my TV manual I realized that the Digital Audio on the TV was an OUT not an INPUT. In other words it is used to connect your TV to sound system for a better experience. Not a digital input from a connect device.
Check your manual and see what the function of that plug on your TV is for. If it is for both INPUT and OUTPUT then there must be an audio setting.
    Cheers,
    Andrew

  • Case for macbook unibody??

I have the Macbook unibody (aluminum with black keys) that ISN'T the pro and I've been looking everywhere trying to find a hard case for it. The only place I've found so far is www.mymacbookcase.com but the cases they have are plastic and I want to find one that's more rubber so it's less slippery. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hey Sarfitz,
Actually the unibody, aluminum with black keys may not be a macbook pro,
but has the same body as macbook pro.
you can go to mymacbookcase.com and buy the macbook pro case, and get the rubberize one.
there really nice, i have one my self, its beautiful quality case.
that will fit on your macbook, even though it aint pro, its the same body.

  • I have a macbook unibody. the dvd driver cannot pull in a cd and when i ma pushing it a little more it pushes it out! does anyone knows what is wrong? or how can i fix it?

    hi everyone!
i have a macbook unibody and when i put a cd on the dick driver in it doesnt pull it , but when i push it in a little more it push it out!
does anyone knoes what is wrong? or how can i fix it?
    thnx

I'm not sure about your question, it's seems somewhat unclear, but if the above command doesn't work another you can try is using the diskutil command as follows:
    "diskutil list"
    or
    "df -h"
    (without "" quotes)
find where the cd is (usually /dev/disk1 but not always depending on what else you have pluged in)
then simply use the 'diskutil' command with the 'eject' argument specifying the device found from the previous command '/dev/disk1'(or what ever your optical is labeled as).
If this isn't your question, I have a macbook unibody late 2009 model and the strangest thing happends, If I downgrade to 10.6.1 my optical drive works fine anything 10.6.8 and above ejects my disk immediately, I have also tested my optical drive out on other OS's such as various linux distro's.  Therefore I have come to the conclusion its a bug. - just food for thought. Hope some of this helps

  • My macbook unibody screen has vertical black triangles on the bottom of the screen. Does anyone know if this is fixable, or do I need to purchase a new screen?

Recently, I started my computer and black triangles appeared on the bottom of my Macbook unibody screen.  I restarted several times (tried the command + option + p + r trick). Does anyone know what could be wrong?

It can be fixed by Apple, some authorized Apple repair shops, or third-party repair shops.
Apple actually replaces your iPod with a refurbished iPod and the price will depend on what model you have. Others will repair your iPod and the prices tend to be lower.

  • About the MacBook Unibody Late-2009 Model's Battery

    Hi,
I want to know something about the MacBook Unibody's battery... does anyone's battery lasted to around 6-7 hours in one go from 100% battery to 0% ???
And what is the full capacity for a built-in battery last for 7 hours of battery?
My Full charge capacity is = (mAh): 4786
anyone has a higher number than this number? is that number look normal or different?

Even if someone says yes to the first question, it doesn't really matter. Battery life is unique to everyone, because it depends a great deal on what you're doing with the system how long the battery will last. You always have to take manufacturer estimates with a pretty big grain of salt however. They don't lie so much as base their figures on employing every little trick possible, and leaving the laptop in what would be a completely unusable state for probably 99.9% of people. All the major computer makers do this, not just Apple.

I have done some research on line and I have the following questions:
    RAM
    1) What is the maximum RAM my mac can take without causing problems. Apple mentions that the maximum RAM is 4GB (2 x 2GB) but I have seen mentioned in threats that up to 8GB have been installed.
    2) The RAM quoted in the specs from apple is DDR3 PC3-8500/DDR3-1066. Could I use a faster chip such as DDR3 PC3-10600/DDR3-1333 or is this upgrade not advisable.
    Hard Drive
    1) Is there a limit to the maximum capacity re hard drive. The maximum apple used to offer this model was 320GB. I would ideally would like to go up to 500GB to 1TB.
    2) The specs of my existing drive are: 160GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard disk drive. Could I get a faster disk, say 7200 rpm to increase performance and will this have any significant impact on battery life and heat?
Further more any recommendations in terms of any of the above welcome.
A lot of information but I wanted to offer all the info needed for meaningful advice.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Christos77,
I also have a late 2008 13 inch unibody MacBook - mine has the 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 250GB Toshiba hard drive.  At the beginning of January I upgraded my RAM from the original 2GB to 8GB from OWC and it made an enormous difference to the functionality of my machine.  In fact, it turned it from being almost unusable to working in a reasonable way.
The recent death of my Time Capsule has prompted me to re-think my setup and, basically, what I need is a drive with greater capacity than my original Toshiba 250GB that the MacBook shipped with.  I'm currently working with only 11.65GB of Available disk space so I need to do something pretty quickly.
I've been researching over the past couple of days and decided that my need for storage is greater than my need for speed so I've decided to replace my existing HDD with a new HDD instead of going down the OWC 'Data Doubler' route.
I, too, thought that the 750GB WD Scorpio Black 7200 rpm drive would be the best (and most cost-effective) solution but I've read reports from some users that it was either noisy and/or hot.  However, none of these comments came from users with a late 2008 MacBook.
I would be very grateful if you could confirm that, after almost twelve months, you're still happy with your WD Scorpio Black drive in your late 2008 MacBook?
One last question ... when you now check the Serial ATA details in the  System  Report, does it still show your new WD hard drive having a 'Negotiated Link Speed' of 1.5 GB or is it now SATA 2 (i.e. 3GB)?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Cheers
    Tricia
BTW I've been running OS X 10.7.x on my system since it came out - no problems at all with it - am thinking of upgrading to 10.8 because I've read that it takes a little less space and is more efficient in memory management - but will have to check a few more things first before I decide to do that!

  • OS X Yosemite on Macbook Unibody late 2008

    Hi Good People
When i install OS X Yosemite i have something annoying me after install it.
    Macbook Unibody 2GHz RAM 8GB 1333MHz HD 500GB
    1. iTunes goes to delay when i play on bluetooth speaker, and much much delay when Safari also open (just open, not in browsing),
    2. all video Player also delay, voice with video isn't syncronize.. i use VLC, Quicktime, all format video, any MB or GB size of video.
    3. after turn on my Mac, why is slow response ( when i open application folder on dock, then i scrolling up and down delay too)
BUT, if i restart my mac then do PRAM twice, everything is normal and work fast then before..
are Processor on my mac is not on requirements?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
    5. Reinstall Yosemite from Scratch:
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • How can I reinstall Mountain Lion (already bought before) after I restore my MacBook unibody (restores it to snow leopard)?

Originally I had upgraded my MacBook unibody to mountain and used time machine to back up my data. I then wanted to restore my MacBook so I did but it restored my MacBook to snow leopard. After restoring to an old time machine backup some of the apps aren't compatible because they require mountain lion but my system got restored to snow leopard. How can I reinstall my already purchased mountain lion if snow leopard doesn't have an App Store?

10.6 Snow Leopard will get the App Store when you update it to 10.6.8. Download the 10.6.8 combo updater to bring it up to 10.6.8. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399

  • MacBook Unibody A1342 no power after water damage to logic board

MacBook Unibody A1342 no power after water damage to logic board
Ive sustained damage to my logic board after water damage. Can anyone tell me if it can be repaired or what the parts which have fallen off do(looks like 2 tiny capacitors?) . Magsafe has green light and battery charges but machine shows no other life signs. any help would be most appreciated thanks

    @CoccoBorg:
I need your help, please. I spilled wine on my mid 2009 unibody macbook pro, now when  I power up I see Hard drive light On, I hear fan noise, but don't hear any startup Apple chime and nothing on display, I cleaned the logic board with 91% alcohol, but that didn't change anything. Before cleaning the logicboard, their were no signs of wine on the logicboard, but there was a lot of wine on the keyboard black sheet.
    My guess is:
    1. The keyboard might be causing this behaiour, I wan't to bypass the keyboard, can you please confirm if these are the right power pads on logicboard?
    http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/106612/Where+are+the+power+pads
    2. You mentioned something about fuses, where will I find them on logic board?
    3. Any othe suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Backlight Macbook Unibody

I installed on my Macbook unibody A1278 a backlight sheet. However, it's not working. I installed it right (I think)to the connector on the logic board. In the preference pane section keyboard however there is nothing mentioned about a illuminated keyboard. There should be an option “Illuminate keyboard in low light conditions”. The apple help section writes that my computer does not support illuminated keyboards if this option is not present. From many forums (eg ifixit)  I know the A1278 does, even the one with te 2.0 processor.
Do I need to install additional software(drivers) from the OS installation disk?

    look at this link:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/9617/Is+backlit+keyboard+compatible+with+MacB ook%21
You see people didplace the backlite on a 2.0 Unibody
