Amp Simulator causing huge delay

So Ive had my mac since Aug 2006. Its worked perfect, all the features worked fine on my simple 1GB of ram. I bought the New iLife 08 a few months ago and it worked fine and I enjoyed the new features. However as of a few weeks ago my computer is acting like it weird, it seems it cannot use the Amp simulator anymore. Why? it causes a HUGE delay in playing. When playing, it will start like it usually does but the delay keeps going and going until I am play a note and dont hear anything till 5-10 seconds later.
How could this happen? I dont know. It worked fine, nothing new was installed nothing new was added... It just suddenly decided it wanted to stop using the amp simulator. I even upgraded to 2GB of ram and I still! am having the same problem.
Any suggestions?

Hello,
Accordin to the following link
http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/lvtextmath/msfunc_eval/
Using the "eval" function in Mathscript node will slow down a lot the process.
Try to use mathematical functions directly rather intepreting the string.
kind regards,
Ion R.

  • Amp-simulator guitar woes

    Hey all,
I've been starting to try using the guitar amp simulator recently. I'm a piano guy, so I've been using my keyboard for a while before this to just record piano tunes and thus although I've been working with GarageBand for a while, I'm pretty much an electric guitar/amp newb.
Now, I've finally started to understand what most of the different controls on the amp simulator are supposed to do to the guitar. Unfortunately though, I can't play the guitar and I don't have an amp, so I'm stuck with GB software instruments + amp simulator.
So I've been trying to work with the amp sim to get a good electric guitar to play under my singing (which I haven't recorded yet) but it seems to be too gritty and dark. I don't mean it's just really distorted, it just has that gargly sound on most of the notes. (I know it's not due to clipping, I've been monitoring the levels.) I'm hoping to get something that would sound good in alternative rock; the gargly gritty thing sounds a bit too harsh for what I want.
Unfortunately, when I lower the pre-gain any more than I have (which I assumed would simply "clean up" the guitar a bit so it still had distortion but wouldn't sound quite as gargly) I seem to just lose fullness and end up with a really quiet normal-but-still-gritty-sounding guitar (the gargly effect doesn't seem to go away until I'm at just under 2 for pre-gain, but at that point it doesn't sound enough like rock. I'm at a loss of what to do here to fix this.
    Here's my amp settings, currently:
    Model: American Gain
    Pre-gain: 4.8
    Low: 5.4
    Mid: 7.3
    High: 7.0
Presence: 10.0 (I don't know what this does...)
Master: 8.2 (Don't know what this does either)
    Output Level: -2.0 dB
I've tried the other amp models and they either sound too gritty or they don't sound like an electric rock guitar at all (for example, with american clean). They still clip when I increase the output level though -_-
Any ideas, tips, links, resources, or amp presets etc. that anyone can provide to help me get to understand what I'm doing with guitars and amps would be greatly appreciated.

First any Gain Amp model will be gritty, start with a clean amp and dial in gain. Amps work with two stages pre amp stage and power amp stage. Turning the pre gain up will overdrive the power stage causing distortion. Amps with high gain preamps will naturally have more crunch. As you turn up the pre you turn down the master, the output is the amount of master signal that gets sent to your track.
Presents is a boost in the upper mids to high frequencies.

  • Huge delay after "liveconnect: Invoking JS method: document"

    Hi,
We're trying to deply an application which uses a Java applet on the (browser) client. All went well in v.1.4.2, but when I switched to v1.5.0_02 I had serious delay on starting the applet.
Turning on level 5 (output is at the end)in the console shows there is a delay of sometimes more then 60 seconds between "liveconnect: Invoking JS method: document" and "liveconnect: Invoking JS method: URL".
After "liveconnect: Invoking JS method: document" CPU goes up to about 50-60% for approx. 5 seconds. It then goes up to 100% for about a minute. Once Java continues, everything works fine. However, startup times of more then a minute is just not acceptable to our customers and most will probably close/kill their browser before that.
Can anyone of you tell me what is exactly going on during "liveconnect: Invoking JS method: document" and why that could take so much CPU and about a minute. It is even before loading the actual JAR file, so I do not suspect the applet itself.

  • Plugging iphone into PC causes keyboard delay in online game

I keep a charging cable always attached to my PC for convenience.  Recently this failed so I bought a 2m replacement rather than 1m, from apple store.
I play starcraft 2 for fun, and I have noticed that whenever the iphone is plugged in (iphone 6), it causes massive delay in keyboard commands executing within the game.  This delay is up to 1-2 seconds.
    - The game otherwise runs at normal speed, no lag
    - No difference whether keyboard plugged into USB or through PS/2 adapter
    - Mouse (USB) is not affected
    - Does not happen with 1m cable, only 2m
    - No other attached USB peripherals cause the delay (printer, scanner, mouse)
    - The instant I unplug the 2m cable, the delay goes away
    - It appears to happen no matter which USB ports I use for lightning cable or keyboard (black, blue or red)
Any ideas?  Any way to stop this?  Should I just always unplug it once I get into a game?
    Thanks

I will add that this delay affects only the game, there is no keyboard delay in any other functions.

  • Amp Simulation + Logic + TDM/HD Hardware = Works?

    Hello
Ive spent alot of time trying to record the electric guitar (Gibson Studio -> Boss GT5 -> Marshall Overdrive -> Marshall JCM900 Amp - > Shure SM57 -> Presonus Firepod Firewire Audio Interface -> Logic Pro 7), Im finding it very difficult placing mic's around and trying to find the "sweet" spot. But as im on my own, i need to find a replacement for guitar recording.
Ive been doing some research on other latest methods and ive found, amp simulation plug-ins.
These plug-ins require extra power, as I'm using Logic Pro 7 on a Quad G5 (1GB Ram) i thought there was sufficient power for these plugins, but they require HD/TDM hardware?
I think DigiDesign create this type of hardware for there products. Does anybody know if Logic Pro 7 can uterlize DigiDesign hardware for its own purpose.
Also I don't think Logic's native plugins will work on TDM/HD hardware. Therefore is it possible for Logic to use TDM/HD hardware for plugins that require it and also use its native plugins simuteously?
Does anyone have any idea's on this? Or can they direct me to another source for possible solution.
    Many thanks.
PS. Sorry for the bad grammer, just got up.

When i posted this topic today and did another search plug-ins, and i found the Amplitube, i heard some of there sounds and im impressed.
The reason I brought TDM/HD in the equation was the use of Line 6 Amp Farm, Ive read and watched a review on this plug-in and I was amazed with the quality and realistic sound, but it required additional hardware. And your right "$8000 to get started with new TDM hardware, that's pretty hard to justify just for a guitar sound".
Ive tried using the Logic's Guitar Amp, now don't get me wrong its a brilliant plug-in, but I want a certain amp sound like a Fender/Mesa/Marshall, Ive spent hours modifying the settings but I can't achieve the sound I want.
I will try Amplitube 1.0/2.0 first. Lets hope it solves my problem.

    wadams5641,
Let's add some speed to your service and ensure you can make calls without the
delay. When was the last time you turned off your phone? Is the software up to
    date?

  • Removing hiss/noise from amp simulator

Iv recently started to record using Garageband and just cant remove the hiss/noise from the amp simulator without compramising the sound i want for recording drastically. I use quite high gain as i play mainly heavy rock, iv tried turing the gain levels down but im not getting anywhere near the sound i would like to achieve. So do you know of any methods that i can give a go or will i just have to live with the results and compramise?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Scott

Cheers guys for the help, it went down a treat and now i practically have no hiss/noise on my tracks. Thanks very much for letting me get my music down as i want it, you were both very helpful!
    Cheers!

  • Huge delay in Printing Crystal Report Layout

    Good Day Experts,
I am experiencing big delays when printing a document that makes use of a Crystal Report Layout Design.
    For example,
The Sales Quote is set to automatically print when added by the user.
When clicking 'Add', SAP freezes up and only about 30 seconds later does the printer finally print the document.
During that time, the user cannot use SAP at all.
The layout does have a lot of fields and a few formulas here and there.
Logically, I am thinking that that is the reason for the delay, as SAP needs to calculate and populate those fields.
Is there any other way that I could speed up this process? Or if you know what might be causing this speed issue?
    Your assistance will be appreciated,
    Thanks
    Regards
    Dario

  • 6480 issue: huge delay in printing.

The problem seems to be a lack of communication or hugely delayed communication between my pc and my printer. Once it starts to actually print, it prints at normal speed. If i print a document, it goes into the que, but won't print. Then all of a sudden, it will start printing anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes later.
If i clear the que, it won't clear at all unless i reboot or use the HP Print Diagnostic Utility to "fix" the que. it will just say "deleting" for a while and then disappear suddenly.
I've tried connecting the printer both wirelessly and with a usb cable and am having the exact same issues.
I've tried printing directly to the printer without spooling, this causes programs like word to lock up and just locks the to-be-printed documents in the que.
I've tried with spooling, this just puts items in the que and then delays the starting of the printer as described above.
I've used the HP Print Diagnostic Utility and if nothing is in the que, then everything comes up with green checks and shows all clear.
I've checked to ensure proper driver usage (using 6400 series driver, version 10).
I have plenty of RAM, hard-drive space and have my printer set to use "plain paper."
    I'm using Vista 64 SP1.
All in all i've been busy with this for over 7 hours. I'm at a loss.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks for your time.

Are you using a static IP, my printer is wired not wirless.  Solution Center (10), printer, scanner etc. was working just fine when I had my printer set to use a DHCP address.  Oh using Vista Home Premium for the OS.  After I switched it to a static IP (outside the DHCP scope) the connection to it went belly up.  I added the printer hostname and IP to a host and lmhost file which seems to have helped a (very little) bit.  Now if I turn the printer on after the PC is up the first print job hangs and a solution center pop up appears and if you open it, in the window is a fix it box that does a reconnect to the printer.  I think it is just restarting the print spooler or one of there many memory hog .exe's or .dll's
THE PROBLEM as I see it (and apparently on other posts on all the other forums I've checked) is that the HP Solution Center Software is for Sh_t, and using the printer without it and with only the drivers does not work well either.  I haven't wasted my time as yet to contact their support but my first questiion to them is going to be how do I get a refund on the Solution Center portion of my purchase.  It's a simple thing using a static IP!  Did your developers not bother to try it on a printer with a static IP.  Sorry went off a bit on this reply as you can tell I am not pleased at all with the HP software, printer works well though when you can get connected to it.

  • Cause for Delay in Report Starting?

We have a process running under BusinessObjects XI Release 2 (Enterprise) submitting a report, and there is about a 30-40 second delay between the report being created and the report start time.  We are setting setRightNow =true.  Any ideas as to the cause?

    Hi,
I'm facing similar issue in our BO environment ..XI3.1 SP3 on win 2003 server.
There is a schedule job based on database event which scheduled to run every 5 mins. From inception I found, the schedule job sometime ran on time, some time delayed by 15-20 mins or sometime got failed.
I've checked the services in delay or failure...but no clue. Please advice what could be probable causes.

  • After 10.5.8, Skype is causes huge slowdown of my MBA

I practically cannot use Skype any more after updating to 10.5.8 on my 1.6Ghz MBA. If I start up Skype, the icon will be bouncing away for a good 5 minutes before it will launch, and while it is launching, nothing else on the MBA works. Everything else freezes. Once Skype (latest version) is logged in, the MBA runs real slow and I get the spinning ball very frequently for just simple stuff like writing an email or clicking on a Safari link. Everything slows down tremendously. the moment, I quit Skype, all is back to normal. Strange thing is, activity window did not show any huge increase in CPU or memory usage. I only see the occasionally red indicating an application is not responding.
I have repaired permissions, ran Onyx, reinstalled 10.5.8 using the combo update, all to no avail. I have to do without Skype. I have no such problems with my iMac or the white Macbook. Any possible solutions?

Hi Allan, thanks for your response. The problem for me right now is that Skype, in its latest version, is unusable for me. My laptop virtually grinds to a halt with the spinning wheel coming up each time I try to do something new. It takes a good few minutes for Skype to start up each time. As I am unable to find a solution, for the moment, I am using the old version, which performs admirably. The size of the file is almost half the latest one, so I do not know what is new in the present one to cause this problem. I repeat that this happened only for my MBA and not for my iMacs or the other more powerful Macbook.

  • 6500+ contacts causing lag, delay, or crashes system wide in iPhone

Hi, I've got 6500+ contacts that worked fine in my Treo 755p. In the iPhone I get lags, delays and crashes. Recently I've noticed some of the crashes I got in Maps and other apps seem to be cause by all my contacts. (I think Maps goes through your address book. Some of the crashes seem to be gone when I don't load my contacts. Is there any fix for this?
I know you can choose to sync individual categories between the iPhone and iTunes but I paid for a 16Gig iPhone so I could take it all with me.
Also, is there a way to have and choose multiple address book files in Address Book? I may like to sync with MobileMe but don't want to sync it all.

In order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below
Install the WPT (windows Performance Toolkit) http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/4847.install-the-windows-performance-toolkit-wpt.aspx ,
When you have open an elevated command prompt and type the following
WPRUI.exe (which is the windows performance recorder) and check off the boxes for the following
First level triage, CPU usage, Disk IO.  If you problem is not CPU or HD then check off the relevant box/s as well (for example networking or registry)
Let it run for 60 secs or more and save the file (it will show you where it is being saved and what the file is called
Zip the file and upload to us on Onedrive (or any file sharing service) and give us a link to it in your next post.
