AMS supported on AWS hosting on a generic CentOS AMI?

Hi,
I've been trying different ways to have AMS running on AWS EC2. first using the community AMIs provided by Adobe, but they won't stop/start to keep the filesystem, only create/terminate.
I've also tried to make a snapshot of an AMS AMI, to use it with a different storage type than instance-based, but in that case, it won't start because of the AMS product license as pay-per-use, which won't accept my AMI.
So my questions are:
- Will Adobe support AMS if I use a generic CentOS AMI, install AMS on it with a license I would pay? (so no Adobe AMI and no pay-per-use license)?
- Is it relevant to do so? Won't AWS try to charge me the use o instances even when shut down?

You can purchase an Adobe Media Server license and run the product on a CentOS AMI. This is similar to running the server on a CentOS Server on your premises.
AWS does not charges when instances are shut down.
Could you suggest why you would not use the AMS AMI available on AWS ? It comes with two default EBS Volumes. You can configure them to persist even after the instance is shut down. By default, the primary EBS volume which has AMI related data is terminated . But the secondary EBS volume that has video archives or other video streaming data is persisted.

AMS 5 on AWS - Support

Hi everyone, we currently have an AMI in Amazon Web Services with v4.0 that we need to upgrade to v5 (with the rebranding in between) for our customer. So far it's going good, I have launched a new instance and started copying the configuration info to one another. This made me question how or what is the best way to maintain a backup of this servers, since it is an instance type and a reboot or shutdown erases all configuration.
I would also like to know how can I take metrics of the RTMFP connections, as the instance we're using is a "large" type, and it is currently limited to 100 simultaneous connections. This was an issue we were having with an older instance; at some point the FMS stopped recording and we had to do a restart once a week.

Hi Martin,
Yes a reboot/shutdown of the AMI will erase all instance data. I think the best bet to back up is saving on an external EBS Volume. You can then create a snapshot of that and actually create a volume only on need-basis. You might want to confirm from AWS experts whether this is the right approach.
For RTMFP connections, I believe you can monitor them via the Administration Console.

File Data Source: does not support any other host except LOCALHOST?

I am using US 1.0.3.
This exercpt is from the OTN iLearn Subscribed course titled "Oracle9i UltraSearch New Features" on operating system file access:
"The file protocol is used only for the machine that launches the crawler. You can not specify any other host for this kind of URL, except LOCALHOST."
Does it mean that US 1.0.3 can not be used to search other file servers on the network? For example, we have US 1.0.3 installed on a server S1 which is on a network with other servers (e.g. S2). I want to use US to search files in the folder myDir on server S2. So I tried to create a file data source with this URL:
file://\\s2\myDir\
But I got this error:
Invalid file protocol URL: file//\\s2\myDir\
Hostname of the file URL "file://\\s2\myDir\ is not "localhost".
My question:
(1) Can US 1.0.3 search files on a different server than the one US is running on?
(2) If so, how to specify the URL using the above example for it to work?
(3) If not, how about the newer version of US, 9.2 or 9.02? Can they be used to search files on other network servers/drives?
(4) If no to question (3), is there any plan to support this in the future version of US?
My comment: Not able to search other servers really limits the userfulness of US. I really hope Oracle will consider adding this capability.

Since I posted my previous question, I have read on the 1.0.3 online help that we can define remote crawlers to crawl "on a remote machine other than the Oracle Ultra Search database". So I assume this is how to make US to search on other servers. In the online documentation it also includes the following paragraph on "Remote Crawler Profiles Page":
"Use this page to view and edit remote crawler profiles. A remote crawler profile consists of all parameters needed to run the Ultra Search crawler on a remote machine other than the Oracle Ultra Search database. A remote crawler profile is identified by the hostname. The profile includes the cache, log, and mail directories that the remote crawler shares with the database machine. "
The Remote Crawler Profiles Page, however, displays only remote crawlers already defined and the page seems to be used just for editing the porfiles of these defined remote crawlers.
My questions:
(1) How do I create the remote crawlers and defines the profiles in the first place?
(2) Where can I find more documentation on remote crawlers?
(3) Once the remote crawlers are set up, how do I specify the file URLs for each remote crawler?
(4) With US9.02 or 9.2, does remote crawler work the same as in 1.0.3, or are there any enhancements?

1.4.1? The reason I ask this is because one of the features mentioned for
v3.3.3 is the support for Java 5 generics, which is available on WebLogic
9 -- but not in WebLogic 8.1 sp4. The documentation for Kodo 3.3.3 seems
to indicate that it can be deployed on WebLogic 8.1 -- can anyone tell me
if this is accurate?

Does Adobe support runtime media hosting?

Hi Team, We are currnetly using lots of Adobe solutions but wondering if adobe supports runtime photo/video hosting. Essentially looking to allow our guest to upload their profile picture and couple more pictures of their life time events like wedding or baby birth. Also a moderation capability for the business teams to validate the content before its published. Do we have any such solutions in place?

OCS 10g - Does it support multiple domain hosting

Hi,
We have installed OCS 10g for a domain university.edu
Now, It provides only two available domains as local domains. ie, university.edu and .edu
I would like to add some more sub domains (at least one more) such as college.university.edu to be a local domain in OCS for which it should accept emails.
It this simple feature of multiple domain hosting supported in OCS.
Kindly let us know some tips for it.

I configured the domain about 2 years ago, so I have to go and look in my archive (which is at the office, I will not be there before the end of next week).
The setup has 2 top level domains (one is .nl and one is .com). Under .nl about 4 domains are running, under .com only 1. If I remember corretly issues did raise with files. Calendar and mail are running as expected. This is on a 9.0.4 release though (not a OCS 10 R1 or R2). I did read loads of articles and had to patch even more. Luckily I printed all articles I read, so I can lookup the exect document numbers. If you can wait until next week, I can help you out.

Cisco support of ldp host address FECs

I am wondering how I would configure my cisco 7206 for ldp host address fecs. When my cisco gets label mapping messages with prefix fecs (fec tlv type 2 as opposed to fec tlv type 3) with a prefix length of 32, it does the right thing, The label binding is added to the ldp lib and the mpls forwarding table is updated appropriately. However, when the cisco recieves a label mapping with a host address fec, it does nothing with the message. It seems to just drop it. How do I configure the cisco to do the appropriate thing with these label mappings?? Are host address fecs supported by cisco??

Host FECs are curently supported. We use an address prefix with a /32 to accomplish the same. A notification is sent to the peer issuing this type of FEC and this event should be logged locally on the receiving router as well.

Dynamic live streaming on AMS 5 on AWS buffering and skipping

I'm having a lot of trouble getting Adobe Media Server 5 on Amazon Web Services working with live dynamic streaming, I've done a of this on Flash Media Server 4.5 and am trying to duplicate what I have done there on AMS since I got an email that FMS 4.5 will be dropped soon.
I have tried replicating my own setup from FMS 4.5 and I have also tried using the base install and following Adobe's tutorial. I get the same results in both events.
First, the HLS streaming appears to work fine. I've watch it on several iOS devices with no problem.
I use StrobeMediaPlayback for HDS streaming and that's where there are problems. The streams usually play fine at first and even transition well, then after a few minutes I start getting a lot of buffering and then video skipping. The longer it goes on, the more it buffers and the larger chucks of video get skipped. Sometimes I also get and error that says "TypeError: Error #1009"
I am using FMLE and both it and the server are set to use absolute time.
Any help would be appreciated!!

May I know the FMS URL and the stream name you are using inside the FMLE and make sure you have full permissions on Adobe media server folder. And also check the streams folder inside the livepkgr folder and see if you are getting all the files created.
And would you mind if you can send me the logs folder at [email protected] so that I can analyse this issue at my end.

AMS 5 on AWS, Video on Demand and CloudFront

I recently subscribed to AMS on Amazon and was able to stream audio content (mp3) on demand to a HTML page using flow player. What I need to do now is integrate CloudFront to the stack. All I could find regarding AMS and CloudFront was related to Live Streaming video, which is not what I am looking for.
Can I use CloudFront together with AMS to do On Demand audio streaming? Thank you in advance.

I am creating a video sharing section on my site and I need
FFMPEG support for on-the-fly video conversions and thumbnails. My
current host does not offer support for FFMPEG. I looked into
CirtexHosting and everything seemed good except the disk space.
Even the most expensive plan only offers 30GB, which is definitely
not enough. My host now offers 300GB and double the monthly
bandwidth for nearly 1/3 of the cost. Does anyone know of a good,
affordable host that offers lots of disk space and FFMPEG
support?

I think it will be hard to find shared hosting that allows
ffmpeg support,
most shared hosting packages limit the amount of time and
resources an
operation can use, ffmpeg would consume lots of CPU resources
and slow-down
other sites on the same server. I've run similar applications
on the
windows platform (Windows Media server / Encoder) on a
dedicated server from
www.easynet.nl
