AMS won't scan new MIDI device in 10.4.11`

I use a M-Audio MIDI-sport 2X2 and have for 6 months. One day the G5 AMS decides it doesn't want to send back MIDI info. through the 2X2 to a Mackie MCU and a keyboard controller. I decided to delete the devices in AMS and start all over again with a new configuration. Now 10.4.11 won't see any MIDI devices and I have no bi-directional MIDI communication. And it doesn't see the MIDI-sport even after a new install of the device.
Any suggestions here>
JIM

Thanks for the thought, but yes, I did register the folder with the printer. When I register the folder there is a 'Save and Test' button to see if the printer is able to communicate with the folder. When i click it, I get an error message--forget exact wording--but it says to check that the file path and name are correct.
Even though the test failed, the folder is listed in HP Utility and also shows on the printer's screen as a network folder. However, when I attempt to scan to it, it fails and gives an error message very similar to the one from the 'Save and Test'.
Other than this mode not working (apparently broken with the update to 10.7), I like the printer. Agree that HP ought to solve the problem for the current OS and currently shipping products.
No, it is not a 2013 MacBook Air.

  • Scanning for a newly plugged in MIDI device

    Hi all,
I'm currently using javax.sound.midi in my project and I have to implement a feature where the program detects if the user plugs in a new midi device during runtime.
This is a bit of a problem as mentioned here:
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3752352/java-sound-api-scanning-for-midi-devices
Basically javax.sound caches the providers list for a minute, and I did what was suggested in the thread to set the caching period to 1 second. Unfortunately, this did not work for me (I'm running on Mac OSX). I can see that the providers list are new objects but it still doesn't detect the new plugged in device. However, it does work on the PC. So my question is, does anyone have any suggestions on how to getting this working on all platforms?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • New iMac w/ Lion: MP Navigator software won't scan on my PIXMA MP780

Bought the iMac w/ Lion, and now my MP Navigator  2.0 software won't scan on my PIXMA MP780. Tried installing MP Navigator 3.0, but it gives me the "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and retry". Any help?
I know that there have been similar answers (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15333807#15333807), but I'm curious to know if these answers will work with Lion.
    Many thanks!
    Dave
P.S. For those of you with similar issues, I did find a workaround; I found I could use the printer driver from within system prefs as a scanner. Here's what you might try to do if you're having the same trouble I am:
    Open system preferences
Select "Hardware -> Print and Scan"
Click on the icon for your installed printer on the left side of the screen
After doing so, you might see buttons for Print and Scan above the data that then shows on the right side of that window.
Click on "Scan" and see if this particualr utility works.
It worked for my MP780. Not ideal (I'm used to the MP Navigator software), but it'll do.
    Dave

Be sure to do some homework before trying again.  There is plenty of advice on the internet, for example:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1161087/install_lion_over_leopard.html
As gumsie says, it is important atleast to backup your own data, photos, music etc on another disk.  I would get Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) and make a bootable clone of your existing Snow Leopard. Then copy the new Lion installer to this clone as well.  With this, you can keep functional (and ask for help here) while you get the Lion installation working and your apps updated.

    Hello there, TempestBelcher.
It seems you've covered all the bases, but feel free to review the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant for connectivity here:
Apple - Support - iPhone - Calls Troubleshooting Assistant

Ah.. then I suspect you just need to go to Logic's prefs/Audio and check CoreAudio...
    It has been unchecked somehow...
Also.. as an aside.. Be careful not to create such large subject names in future when posting here.. They can cause issues with replying to posts in such threads.. due to a bug in the forum software.. so please keep them short and to the point...

  • New pc running on Windows 8.1 and OfficejetPro L7480 but the printer won't scan.

Have new pc running on Windows 8.1 and OfficejetPro L7480 but the printer won't scan. It will print via usb and I've downloaded the full drivers Full_win_WW_140_408 but won't install. I've also tried to install the original drivers but they were for windows XP. The printer is approx 7 years old but still works (or did!)

    Hello RevPhil,
    Welcome to the forums!
I noticed your post about your printer not installing properly for you on your Windows 8.1.
I would suggest trying to use the HP Print and Scan Doctor to install the printer.
If that doesn't work, please let me know what exactly happens when you try to install, for example, do you see an error message or code? Does the installation stop?
Have you tried installing both USB and wireless methods?
Hope to hear back from you shorly!

  • IMac won't recognize midi device

IMac won't recognize midi device (Roland Fantom) which is connected via USB only; no midi interface. I have rebooted both the Roland and the iMac, still no go. I have manually added the midi device under Audio Midi setup, still none of my apps will recognize the device; Logic Pro, ProTools and Sibelius. How do I get this configured? I've read through some other posts and nothing has worked.

Its standard for all computers - if you have 3rd party things that do not work - contact that company - they may have a driver for you to download specific for mac.
Some 3rd party things are windows only - probably same for Mac.

  • New midi trouble.. device or my computer?

i recently got a plug and play midi device (alesis controlpad usb/percussion controller) that is not recognized by my macbook. ive tried all of the troubleshooting provided by alesis and what i could find online, and it seems almost nobody else online is having problems getting it to work (maybe some problems afterwards, but i cant even get it to work!). all other midi controllers i have work completely fine and confusion free. what could be wrong? ive heard something about alesis devices not being able to work on 64-bit OS's, but anyone who regularly updates their software probably has a 64-bit os, and theres not much online about problems with that. ive been sitting here trying for about 6 hours now and have literally come up with nothing. ANY and ALL help would be much appreciated.

Your psu of course does not deliver 36A on +12v. You can't add the 12v lanes. The 18A listed means one rail can be stressed up to 18A but not both simultanously. That is a common mistake people make with split rail psus. It is quite hard to check what it indeed delivers on +12v as it lists a combinded power across both +12v and +3.3v and 5v not +12v alone. As it is an older unit powering your 4870 (requiring 32A and a 500W PSU minimum) most likely stressed it to the max and made it age quickly. Quite possible it is slowly dying. Replacing the psu with a quality single rail psu like Corsair CX600 is recommended.
But I'm using the Radeon 4870 again and I can play for example Battkefield 3 for hours without any problem, and it's overclocked... So why can't I play with my new gtx 660 if it uses less power? I think it has no sense...

  • My HP Officeject 4620 Won't Scan

I see multiple posts about different models of all-in-one printers which can print and copy but won't scan. My new printer is a HP Officeject 4620, and it copies and prints fine but won't scan. I tried calling support once, and the tech said Windows WIA might not be working.

I have Officejet Pro 8500 wireless with same problem, printing works, scanning does not when using Windows 7- 64 bit.  Network diagnostic tool reports no issues.  Scanning diagnostic reports OK for everything but HP Twain test.  There are two versions of printer driver installed each time I remove the two drivers and start new.  I am using the latest download from HP for installation.  The second version of the driver seems to be aimed for a fax.  Using scan diagnostic util reports can't connect.  Also, there is an unknown device showing in device manager that has no driver installed.  This device show in printer device screen and can be used by Microsoft Paint to scan a .bmp frile from the scanner.  I've downloaded and applied the patch to fix network connectivity and this has no effect on the scanning problem.  A second computer runing vista pro can run the scanner using HP solution center software.  Problem is the second desk top is located too far away from the Officjet Pro 8500. It appears there isn't a driver being installed for Windows 7/64 bit to run the scanner part of the multifunciton printer.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless Won't Scan Under Snow Leopard

After installing Snow Leopard, my new HP Officejet Pro Wireless 8500 all-in-one printer won't scan. It delivers the following error message: "No Scan Options - refer to device documentation".
Also, when I attempted to check and adjust scan settings using HP's Scan Destinations program, that program hangs and cannot save any setting changes. Then I have to use "Force Quit" to stop the program from hanging up while saving.
HP's software update reports the printer software is up to date.
It appears there are a ton of printer problems appearing for people after installing Snow Leopard, but I sure would appreciate any help on solutions if someone also has this problem.
    Thanks much.

I also just tried connecting my 8500 wireless printer directly via usb and then downloading the HP printer drivers from Apple downloads and reinstalling.
The install hangs nearly forever on the final step, but eventually says the driver install was successful. However, then when connected via usb, I am unable to print. Printing works when you reconnect via the wireless on the 8500.
So connecting via usb and reinstalling HP printer drivers does not solve the issue. And it's puzzling, because the list of supported printers under Snow Leopard lists the Officejet Pro8500 Wireless as supporting both printing and scanning.
    Somebody has it wrong.
If this scanning problem continues very long, I may be forced to uninstall Snow Leopard, because my printer is brand new.

  • Generic "usb midi device" in 10.9 / Mavericks

What does Mavericks need to use the product string from the USB descriptor as the name of the MIDI port?  I have an assortment of USB Audio Class 2.0 compliant audio + MIDI interfaces.  Some behave as they do in Mountain Lion and earlier:  If manufacturer Foo makes a product Bar with audio and MIDI interfaces, then the Audio Midi Setup windows will show an audio interface named Bar, and a MIDI port named Bar.  If you double-click on the MIDI port, it shows the Model, "Bar," and additional information, including the manufacturer Foo, as retrieved from the USB descriptor.  This is expected and desired, especially with devices that unlock features in non-free software.
However, with Mavericks, some devices (staying with the Foo/Bar example), though the audio interface gets named Bar, show up in the MIDI Studio window of AMS as "USB MIDI Device," and double-clicking reveals the manufacturer and model to be "Generic" and "USB MIDI Device," respectively.  If you use the drop down menu at the top of this window to switch to a different configuration, or define a new one, while the device is connected, it appears in the second configuration as Bar, with the correct manufacturer.
Now, according to https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/technotes/tn2274/_index.html, the Interface Association Descriptor needs to group all the audio descriptors together, they need to be contiguous, and they need to be ordered by Audio Control, then Audio Streaming, then MIDI streaming.  The device that isn't coming up correctly meets those criteria, so I wonder what else is missing.

    Hi,
I have same issue with my device, but what's strange  is that it's correctly detected under Yosemite but not under 10.9.4,
It's always detected as Generic Midi device under 10.9.4
Do you find the reason ?
    Thx

  • Hp office jet pro 8600 won't scan

Wirelessly connected office jet pro 8600 won't scan in windows. I've checked to make sure proper services are running and they are. Started running diagnostics utility and the driver didn't check out but I have the correct one installed and the printer works just fine. Occasionally a message pops up and says that the computer has lost connection with the scanner. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi GradyIV,
I can help you scan from your Officejet 8600 to your Windows operating system. It sounds like you have run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, is this whee you say the driver error?
I suggest using the following steps to delete the printer from device and printers, and the driver from the server properties.
    1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
If the issue persists let me know and I will do what I can to help.

  • Cannot obtain Transmitter from virtual MIDI device

    Hi all,
working on Linux, I'd love to be able to process MIDI events generated by some other program (say, the Rosegarden sequencer) from within a Java application. Rosegarden itself doesn't show up in the list of devices detected by MidiSystem.getMidiDeviceInfo(); however,
I figured out that the snd-virmidi kernel module might be the way to go. And indeed, after loading it, I get some new ALSA raw midi devices:
    Port     Client name                       Port name
14:0     Midi Through                      Midi Through Port-0
    16:0     SBLive! Value [CT4830]            EMU10K1 MPU-401 (UART)
    17:0     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 0
    17:1     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 1
    17:2     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 2
    17:3     Emu10k1 WaveTable                 Emu10k1 Port 3
    20:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-0              VirMIDI 1-0
    21:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-1              VirMIDI 1-1
    22:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-2              VirMIDI 1-2
    23:0     Virtual Raw MIDI 1-3              VirMIDI 1-3
    128:0     rosegarden                        record in
128:2     rosegarden                        external controllerEach of the virtual midi devices now nicely shows up in Java's device list -- actually, each of these virtual ALSA devices seem to be represented by 16 different Java MidiDevices (does anyone know why?). All these devices report -1 as their maximum transmitter count (which, I understand, indicates an infinite number of transmitters) -- but whenever I try to obtain a Transmitter object by calling getTransmiiter() on one of the devices, all I get is an exception like the following one:
javax.sound.midi.MidiUnavailableException: MIDI OUT transmitter not available
         at com.sun.media.sound.AbstractMidiDevice.createTransmitter(AbstractMidiDevice.java:444)
         at com.sun.media.sound.AbstractMidiDevice.getTransmitter(AbstractMidiDevice.java:299)
         at de.tcrass.midicast.MidiCastServer.<init>(MidiCastServer.java:63)
at de.tcrass.midicast.MidiCast.main(MidiCast.java:8)Any idea why those devices won't give me any transmitters?
    Regards --

    Captfoss,
    >
Which does not necessarily mean that Java has the necessary permissions to access these virtual devices...
    >
it doesn't make any difference whether I call my test program as myself or (via sudo) as root -- I consistently get the "MIDI OUT transmitter not available" exception. The kernel (and hence: ALSA) version doesn't have any influence, either (2.6.24 vs. 2.6.26).
Do you (or anyone else) have any clue where else in 'the longest text adventure ever' (as some people have called Linux ;-) something might have to get adjusted to grant a Java program permission to obtain a Transmitter? As I said, the value of -1 returned by getMaxTransmitters() suggests that there shouldn't be a shortage of Transmitters... (Or should I file this behaviour as a bug?)
Regards, and a good start into 2009 --
