An apple skull appears on my i-pod and can not sync
an apple skull has appeared after i cleaned out my i-pod, and it is now frozen. It will reset, but goes right back to the apple/skull i-con. How do i correct this??
Restore it as a new device in iTunes.

Scenario:
Apple TV obtains an ip address, I can view movie trailors on my DLP TV and I can successfully ping the ATV from my XP computer. Once I turn off zone alarm, and try to sync with my computer, ATV appears under iTUNES devices. I enter the password that ATV provided. iTUNES says it is confirming password. The computer thinks for ~20 seconds then ATV disappears from iTUNES. ATV now has my shared name in the sources menu, but it is grayed out and says the library is unavailable.
I have tried all trouble shooting recommendations:
ATV: Factory restored settings, unplugged ATV
iTUNES: 100% uninstall then reinstall
XP Computer, router and DSL modem: shut down, turned off, turned on. (I have done this in the exact order recommended in the forums.)
I am at my wits end and feel I have exhausted all possibilities.
Does anyone have advice?
I was soooo hopeful of ATV, but I am very discouraged. :-/

Dell Windows XP SP2I'm having the same problem (synching works fine but streaming is disabled) except I'm using an AirPort Extreme router (802.11n). I was on the phone w/ support for 2 hours and the only thing that we came up with that worked was to disable/re-enable synching. This has the unfortunate side effect of blowing away the ATV hard disk. I only did this the one time (which re-enabled my PC in sources), but now it is disabled again. Since I was able to temporarily "correct" the problem by resynching, I'm thinking it is a ATV 1.0 sorta bug. I was hoping that this last ATV update would have fixed the problem but it didn't. Maybe I should try re-synching now that I have the update.

Ipod not syncing
I tried to burn 2 cd's worth of music and two things happened:
1. 1st CD synced with my Ipod, but only as an album (touch 2nd gen) but, disappeared from itunes.
2. 2nd CD appears in my library but will now sync to my ipod
I have space left and am not at the 4GBgb limit.
Any help would be appreciated.I have the same problem with my 2nd gen itouch.
I've tried other computer and my childrens iPods work on my computer so not a windows problem. I've tried reinstalling iTunes and resetting itouch as per apple support pages but nothing, it doesn't even show on my computer. Any help greatly appreciated :-) -
if i was to get a ipad 3 would i be able to sync my iphone with it instead of using a computer ??
this helped me alot my main problem was my music and backing up my phone and i cloud does that for me without actually having to fire up the monster as i like to call my computer will still consider the microsoft surface now thank you for this x

Put it in DFU mode (Google it), and Restore it as new in iTunes.

My iphone 5 suddenly died and won't turn back on even after doing the recovery procedure. Even when I put it on charge the apple sign appears for 5-7 seconds and even after that it won't turn on. Help?!?!
DFU mode an try to restore to iOS6.1.4 it will wipe out the whole device if it works but than youll kno if its a software issue if it works or ahardware issue if it dont work

The red X has appeared in my Ipod Classic Screen. Apple support tells me that I need to first put it manually on disk mode. to put it on disk mode I ought to press menu and select buton togeher, when the apple sign shows up, hold select button and play together.
After pressing Menu and Select, when the Apple sign appears, I immediately press select and play/pause, but again the red X sign appears. so it does not go to Disk Mode. Has anyone had this issue? I would be grateful if you could tell me what to do.Thank you everyone for the replies. It defiantly helped point me in the right direction. With any luck, I will have my replacement phone sometime tomorrow.
I was able to call the iPhone support line this morning. The Apple rep stayed on the line with me for about an hour until he was sure the new phone would ship out. For $199 plus $29 for expedited handling I was able to get the replacement ordered with overnight shipping. Since the replacement doesn’t involve ATT&T I have no reason to suspect any further delays. Kudos to the Apple rep that helped me straighten out this mess.
It’s a shame that AT&T cares so little for their existing customers. Not only did they try to sell me the same phone for $499, they outright refused to help me. They also lied to me on numerous occasions and strung me along for close to three weeks for something that only took an hour to complete with the Apple rep.
I filed a formal complaint against AT&T through the Better Business Burrow as well as requested a review of our cooperate contract with AT&T. Our company currently has over 3000 phones with AT&T and there contract comes up for bid the end of our fiscal year (this October). We will be giving it heavy consideration before we consider renewing their contract.
I doubt that any of that will matter to a company that cares so little about their customers, but you never know.

I have an ipod nano 7th generation and can not get it recognised by my Windows 8.1 laptop (it appears briefly on My computer, then disappears). This happened after I updated iTunes to the latest version. Does that have something to do with it?

my ipod 160g says it only has473 mb free and only 20 songs on it
will not sync or resetHallelujah!
First I reset the iPod Classic by simultaneously pressing <menu> and <select>. As soon as the Apple logo appeared I pressed simultaneously <select> and <pause-play>. That enabled disc use. From thereon I connected the iPod to an old desktop running Windows XP and iTunes version 8.n.n. It allowed me to restore the iPod but syncing proved erratic. It would stop after say 30-40 songs.
So I bravely connected it to my usual desktop running Vista and iTunes version 10.5.3.3 and behold, It restored the iPod and synced the entire music library just as before!
Needless to say I shan't be syncing this little baby again. There is enough music on it to last me on a long flight to the end of the world and back!

Now a secret - I called the Apple help line and a nice lady from the Portugal call centre told me to press the buttons in that sequence to get it going as a disk. She has also emailed me some helpful articles but I did not need to read them.

You are correct. Syncing should transfer any purchased media, including videos, from your device to your iTunes library provided your computer is authorized for the Apple ID used to make these purchases. You mentioned that you have uninstalled iTunes before, but if you didn't follow this guide exactly, uninstalling iTunes and all of its components in the order specified, it may not have been successful so you should try again: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7.
