An Apple that runs garage band?

What is the cheapest Apple laptop (it can be an old laptop that I could buy off of ebay or something like that) that comes with/can run Garage Band? I am 16 with a budget of about $500 and I currently have a PC, which does not run Garage Band. The main purpose of the laptop would be for creating music as well as basic typing documents and the internet. Thanks for your help!
icky PC   Windows 2000

I would say _at a minimum_ you'd want a 1Gc machine with at least 1GB of RAM.
If you don't need the portability of a laptop, you'll be able to get a lot more out of something like this mac mini, and if your PC has a USB keyboard, you can use the Keyboard and monitor from that.
GB will run on older hardware, but you'll run into limits quicker.
Just a suggestion. ~~HangTime V1.9.9.9.7 [Will Compute for Food] B-)>

  • Memory to run garage band?

does anyone know how much memory it takes to run garage band? say if your recording live using all 8 tracks?

Anything under a Gigabyte will make the program rather slow, under 500 MB is a no-no.

  • Ibook g3 panther run Garage band??

does the ibook g3 run garage band with 10.3 panther installed? thanks

dannyboy6188, Welcome to the discussion area!
This is the iBook G4 discussion area. Since you have an iBook G3 you really should ask any future questions there.
The original Garage Band would run on a 600 MHz G3 CPU but a G4 or faster was required for software instruments.
The current iLife 09 requires a G4 processor.
You may want to visit the GarageBand discussion area.

  • Can I run garage band and I photo with 10.6.8

Can I use garage band from osx10.5 and I photo, when I have upgraded to snow leopard 10.6.8 .  Or do I just need to move on.  Thanks

Try to update them, running software update.
If they don't work you will need to buy iLife '11(OLD VERSION) to work with 10.6.8 from Amazon.
As seventy one mentions, run the update to 10.6.8 before trying to update iLife, there are updates that will need to loaded, if I remember correctly, there are GB updates, as well as  iPhoto updates. keeep running software update till there is nothing left to update.
Hey seventy one, looks like they are'nt mesing with you today:-)
Your post popped up just before I hit apply.
    Have a good one.

  • Duplicate "Apple Loops for Garage Band"...which ones should I keep?

Hi. I've just started using GarageBand 3 (3.0.4), and noticed that I have duplicates of each and every instrument loop. Both Loops folders are located in my user:Library, one in "Audio" the other in "Application Support". Once you drill down to the actual "Loops" folder, the contents are exactly the same. Which one should I keep, which should I toss (it takes up a gig, which is why I want to toss one.)?

You have to locate your Loops Index files (good chance you have two folders with that name), then start GB and drag the loops that you still want into the Loops window for re-indexing.
Uh presumably after you have located the Index files and before you start GB, you are supposed to do something to the Index files (like delete them)? Maybe this was implied, but it was not explicit.

  • HT1338 What Interface does Apple recommend for Garage Band as the D.A.W. ?

I Have a Line 6 Toneport UX-2. It does not work with my new MacBook Pro.I need to know what the Experts recommend I use as an Interface for Vocals,Guitar and Bass. I'm very excited about GarageBand and need a way "Into" my Computer..Thank you .GuitarGordy.

I use The Apogee Duet. It's a wonderful interface..straightforward, clean, and solid. They make an eight track model, The Apogee Ensemble. It's quite expensive, but if you shop around perhaps you could find a deal on it. It would be over your budget, but it's worth considering.
Here's a link to it on Musician's Friend:

  • How to contact Apple for Garage Band iPad bugs?

I looked around a little bit, but couldn't find a place to report Garage Band bugs or contact Apple support for Garage Band iPad. I wanted to notify Apple of the problem that bluetooth audio output in Garage Band does not work. (Yes I am aware of the latency, however, this would still appear to be a bug in Garage Band if a user has explicitly set audio output to bluetooth. Not all applications fo Garage Band require zero latency.)

  • Can i share garage band between 2 ipad 2s in the same household?

Until now, I've been able to share apps between multiple ipads/iphoness/ipod touch within our household all linked to the same Apple account.  I haven't been able to do that with the iPad 2.  For instance, I'd like to run garage band on 2 iPad 2s.  Do I have to buy it twice?

If both iPads are linked to the same account, you should be able to.

  • Cant get rid of download error message in garage band learn to play

I had trouble downloading lessons 5 and 7 in the Blues Guitar learn to play.  I found a discussion addressing this, and was able to complete the down load by logging into the guest account.  I have all the lessons, but now I can't get rid of the error message that says Garage Band still is waiting to download the lessons.  When I click on the message it refers me to call the Apple Store.  I was in their electronic feedback loop for 15 mins before I bailed.  Any ideas?

Might be easiest to run their uninstall app.
This might mean you have to reinstall it if it is already deleted or better yet download and just mount the volume to open the folders to get to the uninstaller.

  • Garage band errors

I am running Garage Band 11. I am making voice recordings that last about an hour. It took over an hour to save the last recording. I am sending/saving the recording to the desktop. Occasionally, I get and errror code. Today I got an error code 39

assuming you meant a -39, that's an EoF error (End of File), which means the file is likely damaged.
if you're seeing these often, you may want to run some kind of disk repair utility (you can start with Apple's Disk Utility, though it doesn't do nearly as much as other third party software)

  • TS1702 If one of my apps has info on it and I uninstall it and reinstall it because it isn't working will everything be erased ? Please help it's my garage band app I've made songs on there and I'm afraid they'll get deleted if I reinstall the app after I

Please can someone help me with a problem I'm having with my garage band app?
Not to long ago I was using my garage Band app and I was making some songs when all of a sudden it closed on me I was so mad because I was in the middle of making a song so I never got to save it , so I continued to try to open the app again but now all it does is it seems to get ready to open but then it shuts off without even opening . I went to trouble shooting and have done everything except for uninstalling the app reason why is I'm afraid of all my work on there will be deleted and I won't be able to get it back.
I only know just a little about iPads mine is and ipad2 and I need someone's help is there a way for me to fix this without erasing the work I've done on there. And or should I just wait for garage band to have an update on the App Store and update it without deleting it? Please I don't now what to do.
If someone could walk me through what is wrong what I need to do and how etc.
    thank you
    Your fellow apple customer
    Simachyahi .

I have tried all those things I even updated the software to the new iOS system and it still did fix my problem.
What happened is that my garage band looks like it will open then it shuts down.
I have lot of important things on my garage band and I'm afraid that if I uninstall it deleting it then reinstalling it all my work on it will be gone and I can't have that happen.
Everyday I am hoping that when i go to open the app that is will work but it doesn't it gets ready to turn on then it shuts off , the app doesn't even open all the way and turns off.
I really hope I don't have to erase it.
It'll say it's ,lading my songs then it shuts down .
If I waited for the App Store to come up with an update for garage band should I wait till then to update my app so it doesn't get damaged . I don't want to erase it and all my data get erased . I figured if I wait for an update then my garage band will reset itself but won't delete my data. I'm not sure if that will help. Is there anything you or anyone else might know that can help me with this matter ?
    Thank you
    Simachyahi

  • Why doesn't Garage Band Make any sound anymore?

I recently installed Pro Tools to my Mac Mini and it works great but now when I try to run Garage band this what it says:
"GarageBand has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers.
(Be sure to install the latest drivers for all audio and MIDI equipment connected to your computer. For instructions on removing older drivers, consult the manufacturers' documentation.)"
I don't know what that means. All I know is that my Axiom 49 keyboard worked with Garage Band the day before yesterday and now it doesn't. How can I fix this without having to uninstall pro tools
    Please help.

Look into your midi driver folder (HD/Library/Audio/Midi Drivers) and see what's in there. Try to at least temporarily move the files somewhere else and see if GB starts up without making a fuss!

  • Garage Band

I have two issues concerning Garage Band.
    1) I cannot find the older version of Garage Band 6.0 for my operating system. Apple has a download of Garage Band for 10.9+, my version is Lion 10.7+.
I am afraid of upgrading to 10.9+ because the reviews are 50% don't do it, and 50% it works great.
    2) If I have a musician that has Garage Band for OS version 10.9+ and can record are the files from the Garage Band Version 6.0 compatible.

To get GarageBand '11, version 6.0.5 for Lion, buy an iLife '11 DVD from Amazon or eBay.  It will have an early version of GarageBand '11. You can update   and you can update it from the support page:   GarageBand 6.0.5
    2) If I have a musician that has Garage Band for OS version 10.9+ and can record are the files from the Garage Band Version 6.0 compatible.
The newer GarageBand 10.0.3 can GarageBand 6.0.5 files, but but not vice versa.

  • Wrong MIDI signals in Garage Band

I bought a cheap MIDI to USB cable from eBay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/170884868173 and connected my piano to my Macbook Air running Garage Band. It works when playing separate notes, but chords seem to play partially, not at all, or keys are played once I release them.
Here's an example from MIDI monitor (playing a C chord, then releasing):

    From Port 1
    Note On
    1
    E3

    14:18:56.270
    From Port 1
    Note On

    C3

    14:18:58.062
    From Port 1
    Note Off

    14:18:58.063
    From Port 1

    14:18:58.066
    From Port 1

Could this be the work of a dodgy cable? Or is there some other settings I should be looking at?

As suspected, it was the cable.
Bought Roland UM-One Mk2 USB MIDI Interface and works 100% fine.

  • New to Garage Band and my MacBook Pro

I was wondering if I can use Garage Band to edit preexisting tracks. I am a choreographer and I would like to edit the songs I use for my dances. Can I do that with Garage Band? Can I drop a sound track into Garage Band and edit it to my liking? How would I do that?

Of course garageband can do this but it is really meant more for music creation. But you can just drop the 45 minute track into garageband and use the cycle region function to mark a track and export to itunes. If you plan on doing this often check out http://rogueamoeba.com/fission/. If you have Toast from roxio it also comes with software just for this.
