An application refuses to uninstall

I want to uninstall an internet modem application. It refuses to uninstall. I dragged it to the Trash, it returns back to the Launchpad. What do I do to uninstall it?

Did you install it from the App Store or from somewhere else? In Launchpad, you can hold down your cursor on App Store icons and they will present an X in the top corner which you can click to uninstall the app. If you downloaded it from elsewhere, do not use Launchpad - go to your Applications folder and trash it from there. Make sure that the app is not running (check for a light under its dock icon, or look for a menubar icon), or you will not be able to uninstall it.

    Hey oakman15!
Try using the information in the following article in order to restart your Apple Mobile Device Service to see if that will help you uninstall the program:

  • Mail 1.3 for 10.3.9 version : application refuse to function correctly

My problem is the following : when I open Mail 1.3, on my 10.3.9 version, the application refuse to function correctly : the first window wich must open at the beginning doesn't want to open, and when I want to quit this, I can't quit it normaly, it's always necessary I force it to quit.
If you have a solution to my probleme, thanks to specify it to me (in French if possible, otherwise in English !).

In case anyone is still scoping this, I am having the same problem. Additionally, I have zeroed and random wrote my harddrive, trying to avoid that archive and install problem, reinstalling my OS from the ground up and installing OS 10.3 as an upgrade. No matter what, Mail is still pulling the same stunt... I open it, but the viewer window doesn't pop up until I select a new viewer window from "File". When I try to quit, I have to actually force quit the app. Also, Mail will not finish logging in or fetching new mail...whether or not this is the same for the previous post, I don't know, though.

  • HT1338 Since my last update to Itunes the application refuses to close

Since my last update to Itunes the application refuses to close and slowly locks my laptop until I reboot.  When I reboot it reloads all of my email deleted all day and sometimes the day prior.  I have run disk utilities repair disk permissions.  This works for a short and the whole thing starts all over again.  Does any on have any hints?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • Theme Refuses to Uninstall Even With Nokia PC Suit...

I downloaded a theme from Nokia Suite a few months ago but I can't seem to be able to uninstall it, not even using Nokia PC Suite.
While on Nokia PC Suite, I go to the Application Installer, find the "stubborn theme" and click to erase it. However, despite the bar below shows it's erasing, after finishing, the theme continues there as well as the same amount of available memory. :/
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My appolagies forgot to write down the phone model, it's a Nokia N97.
The "Applications Manager"within the phone shuts down on my face after few seconds and returns to the previous page, the usual lack of memory problem on the N97. I also tried to install the same theme as you suggested already 2 times, but to no available, the theme still refuses to "go away."

  • I can't get ITunes to install. I get the message: Error 2 Windows. Not able to find Apple Application Support. Uninstall iTunes and reinstall.  I did that and still get the same message.  Thanks for your assistance.  I'm using a Dell Computer, Windows 8

Can't get iTunes to install. When I download it, and go through installation, I get the message, Error 2, windows 2; can't find Apple Application Support, uninstall and reinstall iTunes.  When I do that I get the same message again. Thank you for your assistance.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Firefox.exe application error, tried uninstalling firefox but will not delete Scriptff.dll says access is denied. so i can't make a complete clean reinstall. how do i fix this?? thanks!

saw in previous questions that to fix this application error, i need to uninstall and do a clean install of firefox. however, Scriptff.dll says that access is denied and can not be deleted from the program files. how can i fix this so i can run a clean install?

Hello cor-el, thanks for your reply. I changed my settings for downloads to desktop and it has appeared on there. When I double click I am asked which program I want to open file. I click firefox and another box "opening install" says I have chosen to open the file which is an application and do I want to save it. This is the only real option so I press save file. I get a box saying this is an executable file which may contain viruses - do you want to run. I press ok and the final box showing C drive file name and desktop appears stating application not found.
This happens the same whenever I try to install.
To my untrained eye the application is not being recognised as an application and I cannot work out how to get it to do that.
My plugin is still showing as out of date.
Is there anything you could suggest. Thanks for your time.

  • Acrobat Pro refuses to uninstall!

I've had to uninstall CS3 on my Mac Pro (Leopard 10.5.2) because of a licensing glitch. After using the Adobe uninstaller, I used Adobe's CS3Clean script to supposedly erase all traces of the former installation. However, when I try to install the suite again, it tells me it will install everything except Acrobat 8 Professional because it is "already installed." It lists the file size as 894.6MB. It is grayed out in the selection list of apps, and I can't see any way to override it.
It's not listed anywhere in my application folder, and when I do a spotlight search on "acrobat", apps only, nothing shows up. Then I realized I don't know the name of the installed Acrobat Pro app, and it might not include the entire word "acrobat" in the filename.
I'm starting to think there must be a residual log or initialization file that keeps telling the installer Acrobat's still installed when indeed it's not.
    Help?

Try also deleting the following support files/folders:
    ~/Library/Preferences/Acrobat
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat
(where ~ is your user directory)
    Hope that helps.

  • Adobe Air Application, launch Another Uninstall.exe on Uninstall of Air App

    Hello,
how can i launch anothe uninstall.exe when my air application is about to be uninstalled?
this is needed because the air package does not include the data that is needed by the application
the application will be delivered on cd rom ... we have an uninstaller ready, but if the user chooses
to deinstall the application through software->deinstall the data remains on the harddisk, which is not
nice, and could be solved by simply run the provided uninstall.exe created during installaiton process
    any help is very appreciated!
    thx

After futher investigation, I have isolated the line that causes the crash
    in the NetConnectionChannel constructor
    public function NetConnectionChannel(id:String = null, uri:String = null)
    super(id, uri);
_nc = new NetConnection(); //ADL Crashes/Hangs on this line
    _nc.objectEncoding = ObjectEncoding.AMF3;
    _nc.client = this;
Oddly, this only happens in the second adapter module instance that is created.
And as stated above, this error is not thrown in the release AIR runtime.
I'll update this thread if I discover any more details.

  • How do I uninstall labview application with no uninstall program

I have built an application and selected to not have an "uninstall" application in the various 5.1 app builder options. I did not think this would be a problem since I thought the application would show up in my add/remove programs and could be removed from there. However, it seems that if no uninstall program is selected then the application also does not appear in the add/remove section of control panel. Do I just delete the directory of the application? Are there any registry settings to worry about. I have seen this on Win 2K and Win 98. I have not tried others.

There are registry settings when you install the application builder, and probably an association is made in the registry to open your application and have it spawn the runtime engine of the correct version. However, as the Windows Registry is the most obsolete piece of software junk on the planet, and so chock full of mysteries, incosistencies, and well, a whole list of things that I could complain about, I cannot say for certain what registry settings are added/changed when you do an installation.
I will make this suggestion. Just delete the folder, and also, you will need to delete the "my application".ini file in the root directory, or wherever your application is located (which could be taken care of when you delete the folder, but who knows.)
    On
ce you have deleted the folder, any remaining registry settings left over will be added to the rather large list of leftover registry entries from other applications that are unistalled/deleted. The truth of the matter is that I have NEVER seen an application completely remove all of itself, or its registry entries. I don't even know if uninstallation removes ANY registry entries.
If we are all lucky, someone at Microsoft will take a hint and get rid of the registry. Maybe then we can have flash resident operating systems. Until then, I'll stick with Linux, thank you....

  • Under mac Os have two firefox applications, which to uninstall and how?

Hi! Have Mac Os 10.4.11 and tried many times to install firefox (wich does work) since required to drag icon into application and would load untill almost very end . Had this problem for months and could always use browser although at opening of computer would always ask to drag picture and did so quite a few time as new trial but to no havail. Since dragging didn't work, kept copys of both to keep bookmarks and now would like to either delete or uninstall one of firefox applications.

Might have been better sticking with one topic for this; could get confusing with two.
However; The only Applications icon in the finder window sidebar should be an alias to the Applications folder in the Macintosh HD (at least by default). I would suggest you just drag the one in the Places section to the desktop and watch it disappear, then go to Macintosh HD>Applications and drag that folder to replace the one you just removed - that will ensure that the correct one is in Places.
As for the one in the home folder, my new MacBook surprised me by having an Applications folder in the home folder, too; though as it's a new computer it was empty. So I can see how you might have one there, as it appears to have been part of the SL install.
What's intriguing though is how you come to have so many applications in that folder, including duplicates of some of those in the HD Apps folder. Are these Applications at the same standard of update as those in the HD folder? or are they earlier versions?
If they're earlier versions (and I'm guessing they may be), is it possible they've been migrated from a previous installation on that iMac during upgrade?
Whatever the reason they're there, if they're not required, trash them (from the home folder Apps folder) or indeed if there's nothing you actually want in there, trash the whole Applications folder from the Home folder.
The Dock behaviour sounds correct if two different versions of an Application are open, so you shouldn't see it again once you've removed the duplicated apps.
Whatever you do, *DO NOT* remove the Applications folder from Macintosh HD!

  • Superseeded application is not uninstalling

    Hello,
I have an application deployed to almost 100 machines. I'm deploying a newer version of this application but the older version is not uninstalling. The problem seem to be isolated to one particular machine only. Here's the details:
I've created a separate application for the new version. Simple enough since it's an msi installation. Configured the supersedence setting for this application. Added the older version (currently deployed in production) to be superseeded and made sure "Auto
    Uninstall" option is checked.
I created a separate device collection and deployed it to a few test machines, including 2 user machines who requested for the new version. Now, in my test, the new version gets installed successfully (old version is uninstalled if present). For one particular
machine, the older version is not being uninstalled and it's causing the new version to fail to install. The particular machine happens to be one of the user machine in production.
For the problematic machine, it seems the content for the older version is not even getting downloaded on the client machine and the uninstallation is being skipped before the new version's deployment begins. I can't recreate the issue on my test machines.
What could be special with this production machine? Why isn't the superseeded application being uninstalled?

Thanks Peter for your reply and the suggestion. I had already checked several times and confirmed that the exact same version is installed on that machine. I can see that in the add remove program list of that machine.
I just checked the AppIntentEval log and saw something interesting. It seems for some reason the machine is detecting the old version as "Not Installed"
    ScopeId_AD6690A9-FF5D-4C83-B2EC-064FDAD5DD23/Application_267a84d4-7e5c-48d2-b003-add93500dd36/8
:- Current State = NotInstalled, Applicability = NotApplicable, ResolvedState = None, ConfigureState = NotNeeded, Title = Salesforce for Outlook (1.7.102)
I checked the MSI product code in the registry of that machine. The same product code that is used for detecting the application. It's definitly there and the software is obviously working. But according to the AppIntentEval log, that application is Not
Installed. That would explain why the supersedence action is not taking place.
Now, I guess now I'm wondering why it's not being detected as installed when the MSI product code used in the detection method definitely exist. The condition for the detection is just to check if that code exist.

  • Adobe Application Manager Complete Uninstall

    Hi!
I've been using Adobe Acrobat XI for a trial period. The program is good, however I'm not willing to purchase a license at present. So, I've removed it.
BUT Adobe Application Manager still resides in my system. I cannot uninstall it neither through Windows Control Panel, nor with the help of third parties uninstallers (Revo Uninstaller, Absolute Uninstaller, Final Uninstaller). Using Creative Suit Cleaner Tool. http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html was also unsuccessful.
So, the question is: How can I completely uninstall Adobe Application Manager from my system (Windows 7 HP x64)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

AAM is needed if you run any other Adobe software. see this post for uninstall info and more: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4723542

  • Need help FAST Application refusing to launch

My PowerBook is refusing to launch an app, the app works fine on all my other computers. In the app's crash log I get this:
    http://pastebin.com/664099
This computer used to run the app fine until earlier today when a folder named 501.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (the x represents numbers that I can't remember). I am loosing my patients with this **** computer and am about to smash it with a hammer if I don't get this fixed FAST.
    --Thank you for your help

If you really want this fixed fast, you should consider:
The more information you provide about the crash, the better. You didn't indicate what program you were using and you also seemed a bit frustrated when you posted and didn't quite finish the sentence concerning the 501 folder, which I can only assume, appeared in your trash, as I think I've seen this before after a program quits unexpectedly.
According to the crash report, it appears that the program that is crashing is Adium.
You can try reinstalling the program to see if something has been corrupted in the program package.
You can check to see if there is a more up to date version of the program. You might be dealing with a bug that has been fixed in a more recent version.
You can hunt for the preferences by doing a file search in the library/preferences folder to see if you can find all the preferences associated with adium and delete them. You will most likey loose all your preference setting and any login information, since it's an IM program, but at least you can get it up and running again.
Don't delete the preference files until you have verified that the other two solutions do not work. There's no need to go through re-intering the preferences you want if you can fix the problem by reinstalling the program, which doesn't mess with your preferences.
