An error occurred loading this content message when trying to watch i player on the tv via Apple TV
I cannot get the content of bbc i player playing on my ipad or i pod to tranfer to my TV screen. The error message comes up each time. I can do it succesfully from my PC but not the Ipad or ipod.
apps have to support airplay and or airplay mirror for it to work

Same problem here as well. Downloaded an update back in August because it was forcing it down my throat. Ever since then I've been having the same problem over and over. I downloaded the most recent update (October 2014) and the issue was not fixed. I've restarted, rebooted, waited, downloaded most recent software, done 42 headstands, gone to counseling and still no changes. I don't have cable but watch Netflixx and Youtube on my ATV for entertainment. Netflixx and Youtube are not issues on my phone or computer. I believe this is an ATV issue.
Come on Apple, whats going on with you guys recently? Your quality in products is declining, people are starting to buy other than Apple products, and it doesn't seem like you guys really care for the consumer. I've been a die hard Apple guy owning iphone, macbook, and ATV but strongly considering switching. Calling the Apple gurus who know things about stuff. CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ME AS A CUSTOMER????????

My ATV keeps telling me... "an error occured loading this content" I have tried playing this movie i downladed for 2 days how long will it take? Why after resetting the ATV is it still not working...?
Did you try unplugging the power cord for a few seconds, then plugging it back in? That usually fixes similar problems for me.

This error has occurred 3x in the last hour.... Trying to download John Carter.... Tried restart, unplug unit, reset, unplug hdmi cables.... No dice. Very frustrating... Any ideas out there?

Apple TV 6.1 Netflix "an error occurred loading this content"
Since the upgrade a few weeks ago, my 3rd gen Apple TV (6.1) hs been giving me "an error occurred loading this content" message when viewing a program. It can be at any time -- from a few seconds in, to a few episodes before it occurs and seems to be getting more frequent. I checked by connection speed while it was running and was getting 55-57Mbps, so I don't think it's the ISP; I've restarted several times, including pulling the power. I finally did a reset -- still getting the problem.
I'm assuming it's Netflix, since SkyNews, Hulu, iTunes, YouTube, and my home sharing are all fine. i was wondering if there were more having this issue -- it looks like it was common with the last iteration of OS. It's not happening on the first gen iPad, nor on the iPad2 or 3, or the iPhone 5 in the house.Doesn't do anything. Restarted the ATV: stil happens. Reset it: still happens. Reset the router: still happens. It's a 3rd Gen ATV and up to date on its software. It started only a few months ago and has been getting consistently worse, to the point that I have to Airplay Netflix from an iPad through the ATV. The issue does not occur on three different iterations of the iPad, nor an iPhone 5, which tells me this is an Apple TV issue that needs fixed.
This seems to be a common complaint among Apple TV users, and unfortunately, there's not much in the way of programming options on the device (Hulu is pretty close to useless for children's programming.) It might behoove Apple to shift it and fix the issue.
I'll wait a little while to see if it gets rectified, but I suspect I'll be buying a new Roku. -
I am unable to play a rented movie on my ATV 2. I get: An error occurred loading this content. Try again later. My ISP has the TCP 80 port blocked but the TCP 443 port open. My first gen. Apple TV is OK.

I doubt port 80 is blocked, that port is used for http, which you might recognise as the basis for the world wide web.
The message you get can be as a result of an extremely slow Internet connection, you can test your connection speed using speednet.com, however more commonly it's a simple error that can be corrected by unplugging and restarting the Apple TV and/or restarting the router. -
When starting a rental movie, I get the message: "An error occured loading this content, please try again later". Any ideas how to solve this issue?

Now that's an interesting comment you make, out of interest do you have any purchased HD movies in your iTunes collection, if so, do they play on the Apple TV with your new tv. -

I'm facing the same issue.. Just updated the software a few days back and I started getting this error... logged into youtube can view the playlists, subscriptions etc but when I try playing any video or Rent a movie etc...the message kept popping up... "Error Loading Content, Try again later"....

Make sure DNS is set to ISPs (settings - general - network - DNS should be set to automatic). Trey rebooting ATV, and router. Make sure all are up to date.

I've rented several movies over AppleTV, but can not download. I get a message "An error occurred loading this content. Try again later. " i've been trying for 3 days now... anyone with similar problem?
I have the same issue, to temporarily fix it go to Settings > General > Restart. When it restarts the movie should play. You have to do this for each movie for the most part.

When Streaming a movie or tv show it stops after a short time and does not finish downloading. We watch the TV show or movie than nothing !!!

Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore) -
