An error occurred while attempting to communicate with the AirPort Express

I have an Airport Base Station (ABS) and 2 Airport Express (AES) units spread through my apartment connected in a WDS network. The ABS was using version 5.5.1 and the Express units were using 6.1.1 because I had read these versions had less problems disconnecting. But yesterday, while changing the access list in the different stations, both of my AES came back with an error that read 'An error occurred while attempting to communicate with the AirPort Express'. No resets or firmware updates would restore them to a working state from a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz where I had the latest Airport Utility. There was always a communication error.
I was able to update the units using an old PowerBook G4 running at 500MHz with the old Airport Setup Assistant. Both AES units were updated to version 6.3 and were put back in the WDS. Airport Setup Assistant has trouble communicating with the Airport Card in the MacBook Pro 2.4. I hope this helps others get their AES working again.

Thank you! That was helpful. I guess I'm lucky that I have an old ibook to use.
Does Apple know about this issue???

  • A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server.

    Hello All,
I am getting some new error messages when opening the server app on my Mac Mini server running OS X 10.8.2 and Server 2.2.1. First I get a message that says "A network error occurred while trying to communicate with the server." and then after trying to open some of the service panes, I get additional errors that say "Multiple errors occurred on the server while processing commands." The services don't load and I just see "Error Reading Settings" in the server app.
I started to get these errors when I added a new website to the server. All the services are working fine but I cannot access them in the server app.
In console I'm seeing these errors when I try to access various services:
2/24/13 8:02:12.692 PM Server[956]: Error: The server '10.0.1.150' reported an error while processing a command of type: 'readSettings' in plug-in: 'servermgr_dns'. I have already restarted the server and used terminal to stop and start postgres. Any more thoughts on how to repair this?

Just as I had suspected, the whole GUI crashed because of certificate problems. After two and a half hours with enterprise support, it turns out the com.apple.servermgrd certificate in the server keychain had become corrupt.
We determined this by typing https://127.0.0.1:311 into Safari and we could see all the server modules and interact with them through the web interface. All the services were working properly as well so we knew that it was just the Server.app GUI that simply couldn't read settings that was causing the problem.
So, first we closed the server app. Went into /var/servermgrd and deleted all the files from this folder. Then, in Keychain, deleted the com.apple.servermgrd certificate. Did a search for com.apple.servermgrd in Keychain and deleted everything else that came up for it.
Then restarted the server. Now the server app was able to properly connect to the services in the background and read them properly. This was the jist of the troubleshooting that solved the problem. It also seems like DNS is causing problems because that is the only service that will not read right but is functioning properly in the background.
I will post an update once Apple figures out what is wrong with DNS. Hope this helps anybody else having these problems.

  • An error occurred while trying to communicate with the web browser.

I have opened a PDF in the Acrobat reader V 8.2.4. It has live links.
Only the FF browser is open.
When I click a link in the PDF, I successfully get the message 'The document is trying to connect to...' which I allow and then successfully hyperlink to the web page displayed in FF.
When I click an image in the PDF, which has a url attached to it, I get the message 'An error occurred while trying to communicate with the web browser.'
[Sorry to say in IE7 when I click the image, I hyperlink to the web page like I do when I click the link.]
Question is: What setting or other step do I need to take with FF so when I click the image in the PDF I link to a web page like I do when I click the link in the PDF?
    Thank you!

  • I'm having problems with a message that says: An error occurred while Attempting to create the directory: C:/program files/itunes/cd configuarion

I know this is a long story, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to get the most specific help I can (as Apple seems to specialize in assuming user error for all its demonic software). I've never had issues with iTunes before (barring a "Connect to iTunes" snafu with my iPod Touch) -- and never, in fact, with Windows Vista, if you believe that -- but this is the most bizarre thing I've seen.
I recently downloaded the new iTunes v 9.0.3 as I am occasionally prompted to do whenever a new version comes out, and immediately I had problems. Access to the iTunes and Quicktime folders was mysteriously denied after the update, and after several hours of frustration, I was able to grant my own Administrative access to these two folders and installation went through. Thank God.
Then I bought some music. No problems -- downloaded just fine, along with a copy of Cinderella Man and the new episode of Smallville. Life was good for a few days.
Then I connected my iPod Touch to the computer. All of a sudden, Microsoft Windows informs me that the "Apple Mobile Device Service stopped working and was closed," with subtext, "A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available."
Bullsh*t Windows can help me with anything from Apple.
So I've tried to get iTunes to work with me on this. I've come up against the infamous "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (OxE8000001)" message. My God, when does it ever end?
So I go into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Apple Mobile Device and start it back up... only to watch it stop again inexplicably moments later. Hmm... Restart. Stays on. Unplug the iPod and plug it back in. Apple Mobile Device Service stops again. Maybe it's the iPod Service itself. Hey, that one's not started! [Start] "Windows could not start the iPod Service service on Local Computer -- Error 5: Access is denied."
What the f*ck is it with this "Access denied" crap? I've never been denied access to even the most intimate functions, files and folders on my freaking computer before! What has Apple created!?
I thought, perhaps Apple Mobile Device software was somehow removed. Okay, let's redownload iTunes (aka Repair the program from the Programs and Features menu in the Control Panel -- same thing). Huh. "An error occurred while attempting to create directory C:\Program Files\iTunes\CD Configuration," and I can choose to Retry or Cancel. So, instinctively, I deleted the CD Configuration folder, assuming iTunes Setup would just recreate it.
Well, that didn't work now, did it? I deleted it and hit Retry, and it said, "The installer has insufficient priveleges to access the directory: C:\Program Files\iTunes\CD Configuration. Log on as administrator or contact your system administrator." Running the .exe file as an adminstrator changes NOTHING about this predicament.
So that's where it stands. No CD Configuration folder; full access to all files and folders involved; Apple Mobile Device Service still keeps going off for no reason; iPod Service still doesn't run; Repairing/Reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, Bonjour, etc. does nothing; and God (aka Steve Jobs, apparently) hates me.
    . . . . . . . . . . . . Help me.

  • Switch Executive with SCXI "an error occurred while attempting to access device"

I get "an error occurred while attempting to access device" when trying to validate or use the test panel for my current configuration:
    PXI-1010 (PXI/SCXI combo chassis)
PXI-4060 in the PXI rightmost slot
SCXI-1129 in slot 1 of the SCXI portion
Clean install of all NI software (2012 DS1 developer suite) and a reset of MAX configuration data after not getting this resolved previously.
Because the SCXI-1129 is being controlled by the 4060 (legacy), I can't use DAQmx in NISE 3.5. So I'm stuck with IVI. I've configured everything in IVI so that I can at least add my device (SCXI_1129) into a new NISE virtual device. But when I go to validate or make a connection in the test panel within NISE, I get the above error.
    Am I configuring something incorrectly?

    Frank,
Thanks for continuing to look at this issue. Here are my responses to your questions.
    1) You get an error when your driver setup string in in the General tab of your Driver Sessions is "1129/2-Wire Quad 4x16 Matrix"? Are you using a
PXI-4060 in the right-most slot of a combo chassis. If you're using a DAQmx device, it's a whole different ball game. If you're not using a PXI-1010
combo chassis, it's a different story too.
    2) I can't seem to find a way to cleanly export my IVI configuration files. Even the VI you wrote (Programmatically Export All Virtual Devices & IVI
Configurations for NI Switch Executive) didn't copy the IviConfigurationStore files. So I manually copied them over and attached them. When I create
my driver session, I type 3 things: the topology ("1129/2-Wire Quad 4x16 Matrix") in the driver setup string, "SCXI-1129" and "SCXI1::1" in the
hardware tab (It would be "SCXI0::1" if the dip switches on the PXI-1010 were set to address 0, which is the default), and niSwitch in the software
    tab for the software module.
    3) The error I'm getting is the name of the post. "An error occurred while attempting to access device". It get this when validating my NISE virtual
device when simulation is not checked. It's also peachy-keen for me when I simulate.
    4) See the screenshot.
    5) Production line down is par for the course for this lab due to how many people have messed with this station in an effort to bandage it over the
years to keep product flowing. Long story, but there has one problem after another on this machine for a while with no owner. I'm now responsible for the automated tests on it. I'm adding new devices because I'm essentially starting from scratch so I know what's going on and can trust it. But apparently I'm either getting the same error they had before or it's a new one. I suspect it's the same one but it "used to work". I had another coworking here yesterday and he opened a phone SR, gave the information, and was told they'd get back to him. I haven't heard anything yet.

  • Despite it is claimed in Adobe forum that Lightroom is fully compatible with OS Maverics on my MacBook Air IT IS NOT. A message "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" appears and I cannot go any further. Can anyone help?

Despite it is claimed in Adobe forum that Lightroom is fully compatible with OS Maverics on my MacBook Air IT IS NOT. A message "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" appears every time I try to open Lightroom. This happened immediately after upgrading to Mavericks. On my doughter's same machine Lightroom works perfectly. Can anyone help?

Surely the Adobe forums are the place for help with Adobe applications. The fact that the problem doesn't occur on your daughter's machine suggests that it's not an issue with Mavericks but a local problem on your own machine.

  • An error occurred while attempting to change modules

I installed Lightroom and when starting the program I get, "An error occurred while attempting to change modules." I get this message within the program when clicking on any of the top right menu items. Also, importing a photo is not listed in the file menu. I deleted the preference file and Lightroom folder in my user preference and reinstalled. I tried many reinstalls, it still has reoccurring error message. Anyone now a fix? I'm running 10.5 on a Core Duo with 2meg of RAM on a 320 gig hard drive with lots of room.

For what it is worth, I was unable to change to the Web and Print modules, and I was also unable to record new presets (though I had successfully done it many times before) though I could still use already created ones.  I was baffled, but found a workaround using hints from this and other forums.  Much thanks to those who provided me with a starting point as I never would have figured this out on my own.
My wife is a separate user on the same computer, and I tried switching our catalogues and preference files, ... nada.  Looking at her folder structure under user/library/application support/adobe/lightroom, she had folders for Web Templates, Web Galleries, and Print Templates but I didn't.  So, simply copying her folders (not creating new ones of the same name, which may still have worked) into my own lightroom directory worked.
Where I screwed up initially was tryiong to use my own presets under her install of lightroom and then creating new ones (which worked) but then trying to import them back into mine.  I had the new presets working under my own install, but still couldn't create new ones under my own setup.  Finally, I realized that it was the "Develop Presets" folder under my own install that was in some way corrupted and copied her Develop Presets folder into my own install and every thing was fixed. I could even copy the subfolders from my own Develop Presets folder directly back in without issue.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when launching lightroom

I get the message  "an error occurred while attempting to change modules" when I launch the app on my mac.
Every other adobe app works like Photoshop
I have followed all the troubling shooting steps in the link below, not one of them makes anything different. Except I tried the last one. I created a new account, simply logged in and launched the app and everything ran normally. No problem. However it doesn't say what to do if that works it just says try it.
    Error changing modules | Lightroom
Obviously this means its going to be an issue with a support file in the one user account but what one?
I also can't un install lightroom either, when I go to the creative cloud plug in on my menu bar the uninstall says its unavailable but the others are fine.
    Any ideas?

I just found the answer for me.
I did step 5 on this support article:
Troubleshoot unexpected behavior | User account-specific | Adobe software | Mac OS
It is to repair the permissions on the hidden Library folders.

The problem occured when I added a calculation to woorkbook that was working perfectly fine before. Now I can't even remove any item or calculation (or anything) from the worksheet.

    Robert,
We encountered this issue with our 10.1.2.54.25 installation on a Solaris OS. We are currently at CP3. We have tried CP4, 5, 6 and 7. No resolution. Oracle has replicated our issue assigned a bug # and say that they have found a fix but it will not be made available until the release of 10.1.2.3 CP2. We have requested a one-off patch for 10.1.2.54.25 CP7. They are currently thinking about it. We have been hung up since Feb. '08 and not be able to resolve any bugs because of this problem.

    When I typed tnsping80 fndfs_win2000 it's returned OK .
When I try to connect apps/apps@fndfs_win2000 from SQL/PLUS
    it returs :
ORA-12514: TNS:listener could not resolve SERVICE_NAME given in connect
    descriptor.
I created another listener for APPS through Network Manager.
Please let me know at your earliest Convenience.
