An HTTPs site gets the nasty "This Connection is Untrusted" on Firefox 12 on Mac - however works on Firefox 12 on PC and all other major browsers on Mac and PC

Works on all other browsers on both PC and Mac, only Firefox (and I have the latest version 12.0 on both PC and Mac) has the issue, which of course will make everyone seeing this scary popup click the "get me out of here" button.
What is causing this issue to happen on the very specific setup of Firefox 12 on Mac and not anywhere else?

Does it mention a cause in the technical details why the certificate is untrusted?
You may have a corrupted "VeriSign International Server CA - Class 3" certificate.
You can check that certificate in the Certificate Manager to see if it OK.
*Firefox > Preferences > Advanced : Encryption: Certificates - View Certificates > Authorities
Stored intermediate certificates show as "Software Security Device" in the "Security Device" column in the Certificate Manager. 
Build-in root certificates show as "Builtin Object Token" on the Authorities tab in the Certificate Manager, so do not remove those. 
You can try to remove the currently stored intermediate certificate to make Firefox store a new version.

I use Mozilla Firefox and have never had difficulty before, but today I got 'this connection is untrusted' when trying to open iCloud. There was no option to override this.

Clear your history/cookies and stuff like that on Firefox and then retry. If that doesn't work try restarting the computer or accessing iCloud via Google Chrome or Safari for the time being. I feel your pain, I love Firefox.

I had a power failure and for a number of websites why do I now get the message "This Connection is Untrusted."

After rebooting after the power failure when I go to new websites or even within some websites after clicking on a link the message box appears and I have to add a security exception to get past the message and see the link. I am using V4.0. I do not get that message on another computer using V 3.6.15.
What can I do to reset the browser?

That did it! I no longer get that message. The clock was set to the wrong day and time. So far it is keeping time correctly, but per your suggestion I will also check the battery.

Open System Preferences > Date & Time then select the Date & Time tab.
Select: Set date and time automatically
Then select t he Time Zone tab.

How can you add an exception if the notification "This Connection is Untrusted" is not seen complete and hence you can't click in the button "I Understand the Risks"?

When I open the window, I can see the place to sign in; but, where the logo and images (at the top and at the left) must be appear, two separated "Untrusted Connection" certificates appear. Rename the file cert8.db to cert8.db.old in the Firefox Profile Folder to remove all intermediate certificates that Firefox has stored by visiting secure websites. 
If that helped to solve the problem then you can remove the renamed file cert8.db.old unless you have user certificates that you may want to export first and import them in the new file. 
Otherwise you can restore the certificates by renaming (copying) the file back to cert8.db 
Firefox will automatically store new intermediate certificates when you visit websites that send them.

The "text-overflow: ellipsis;" style is supported by all major browsers EXCEPT Firefox. I had thought that this would have been fixed with Version 4. But it was not. Then I had hoped that it would be fixed in version 5. Yet it still is not supported.

I get this message when trying to log into my Yahoo mail account and now get it when accessing my cellular company's website. I'm concerned about overriding this, so need some input. I'm using Windows XP and of course Firefox

The site doesn't send the intermediate certificate, so you can either make an exception, but better is to install the missing intermediate certificate. 
Because the www.networking4all.com website show the certificate text of this certificate, you can copy the certificate text to the clipboard and paste this text in a text file and save the file as "NetworkSolutions.cer" (be sure to select All Files and not Text Files when saving in Notepad).
You can install the intermediate certificate by importing this NetworkSolutions.cer file in the Firefox Certificate Manager.
*Tools > Options > Advanced : Encryption: Certificates - View Certificates > Authorities

unfortunately the do_not_trust certificates might be a sign of unwanted software present on your pc that is intercepting secure network traffic. please go into the system control panel and uninstall programs like BrowserSafeguard, BrowserSafe, SafeGuard or other software that sounds suspicious and didn't get installed by you intentionally.

All works OK on Chrome and IE, but Firefox just suddenly stopped access to https sites yesterday, e.g. Google, Facebook and Linkedin. Non secure http sites are OK though. Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details to expand this section. If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
