An image misplaces itself on IE6

Hello all.
I made my website a year ago using frontpage. I was in a
hurry to make it and having all of the office suite I figured I'd
use it.
I now have Adobe Creative CS3 design premium and I am trying
to remake my website bigger and better.
I've been learning and accomplishing a lot with dreamweaver
but have run into a few problems.
The main one at the moment is on my "homepage". I only have
FF3 and IE6 on my computer. (By the way, how do I preview in
others?...can you tell my experience is limited?). Previewing in
either one that I do have, there are very, very minor differences
with one exception which has me baffled. On the page I have an
image that shows correctly in FF, but in IE it is displaced to a
lower spot, as if I had two images one on top of the other. That's
just so odd.
If anyone has any ideas on what I can or should do, I'd truly
appreciate it. And please be gentle with me as I virtual always
work in display mode and only look at code for curiosity's sake.
I'm sorry that's all the info I can give you as this page is not up
and running since I want to finish everything before I replace the
current website.

Please post a link to the page. The answer is always in the
code, not the
narrative.

  • Spry Bug? Background Colors/Images not showing in IE6/XpP

    I'm trying to wrap up my site for MiniMAX SE7EN (Cheap plug,
    it's on 6/26 in DC) and I've got a Spry Accordion Component I used
    in Dreamweaver CS3 to display all the speakers and then I switched
    the CSS file to allow for different colors and a background image
    to show through. Seems fine in Firefox and IE7 but in IE6 for PC's,
    it appears black and only black. Is this a Spry bug or something I
    screwed up with regarding the CSS?
    http://www.minimaxconference.com/

    I am having the same problems in IE7. I'm using the latest
    version of everything (Spry 1.6.1 and javascript file version 0.12)
    and at first I was having the problem on my drop down menus
    appearing horizontal with all the correct styles but when I changed
    the rule ul.MenuBarHorizontal ul to position: relative; the drop
    downs appear vertical now but I have no beige border around the
    whole ul anymore and I'm getting white space inbetween list items.
    http://www.wusf.usf.edu/Header_Nav_Footer_newStyleSheet.cfm
    so if anyone has any advice I'd much appreciate it. Also i'm
    using 1px width on my borders no decimals.

  • Background image not repeating in IE6

    I have a background image in a cell of a 1x1 table -
    http://savanabar-leros.com/art7tables.shtml
    the image is set to repeat x and y.
    In FF2 and IE7 it displays as expected.
    In IE6 the background image is not repeated
    For the moment I've increased the size of the image to
    compensate - but
    obviously I would like to know what I have done wrong. It's a
    very temporary
    fix anyway as increasing the text in IE6 shows the text
    dropping out the
    bottom of the background image.

    I was trying to find this the other day - something to do
    with /75 being the
    percentage of transparency I think.
    Frankly I would love to use an "easy way out" - I have tried
    and failed
    despite having been given some excellent help - how oh how
    please do I do
    this?

  • Body background image not displaying in IE6

    I've looked at lots of questions about background image problems in IE6 but didn't see an answer to this one. I have a horizontal stripe on the page that's made of a background image in the <body> tag. The home page has a different size stripe than the subpages, so on the subpages I'm using a class style to call the background image.
    The home page body style looks like this:
    body {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    And the subpages use this class style:
    .subpage {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner_sub.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    It works in all browsers except IE6, which loads the background image on the home page but not the subpages. So I suspect it's the class style it doesn't like. Is there an IE6 fix that will get it to work correctly?
    Here's the url of a subpage.
    Thanks,
    R-Co

    Well, both fixes still don't seem to work in IE6. And for some reason, the embedded style in the home page doesn't work at all. Here's the CSS for the method using different class styles for home and subpages:
    body {
        margin: 0;
        padding:0;
        text-align: center;
    .bodyhome {
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    .subpage {
        background-image:url(../images/background_banner_sub.jpg);
        background-repeat:repeat-x;
        height: 100%;
    Here's a screen shot from Browser Lab showing what it looks like in IE6.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks again,
    R-Co

  • Background image display problem in IE6

    I'm having another problem with my CSS. This one involves some background images not displaying properly in IE6. My navbar is an unordered list, and I'm using an image replacement technique to swap out the text for background images that serve as the buttons. The height of each button is 12 pixels, and the rollover is created by offsetting the image -12 pixels to reveal the bottom half of the image. So far so good. The images appear in all browsers, but IE6 displays more than 12 pixels of the image, revealing part of the rollover below it.
    Here's the page in question: http://www.colbydesign.com/redesign/index.html
    Here's a screen shot from BrowserLab of how the page looks in IE6: http://www.colbydesign.com/redesign/images/ie6_screenshot.jpg
    The <ul> height and image height are set to 12 pixels. I can't figure out why IE6 has a problem with the CSS. Maybe there's an IE6 hack I can use? Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    R-Co

    I didn't have a chance to work through the whole problem, but I believe that the font size of your "off-screen" menu text is pushing down the size of your ul and your li, as I see "overflow" outlines on that specific div.
    Try giving those items #header h1 a, specifically, a smaller defined font size.
    Alternatively, try applying an "overflow: hidden;" to the hover definition.

  • Photoshop keeps rotating images by itself

    Hi,
    When I open any image, photoshop rotates the image 90 clockwise by itself. All the other programs (even windows imageview) dont do that. Only photoshop does that.  I can open the photo in any other application and they are fine, but when I open them in Photoshop CS5, they get rotated.
    Tim

    Welcome to the forum.
    What is the orientation of the Images, when shot?
    Was Rotation done in some other program, such as Bridge?
    After that Rotation was applied, if it was, was the Image actually Saved with that new Rotation?
    What often happens (and this depends on the version of PS that one is using), is that Rotation is applied by some other program. However, that Rotation affects ONLY the display of the Image, and no pixels have actually been moved. When that Image is Opened, the pixel alignment is still the same, as when the Image was produced. This can be very confusing, as the user assumes that they actually Rotated the Image, but they did not. They only added instructions to display programs, on how to display it. The pixels, themselves, are unchanged.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Change object view to reverse or mirror image to itself

    I am using Illustrator CS3 and have Windows XP. I have a vector object that I would like to flip over,or see the mirror image of it. How do you do that?
    Doug

    If you mean you want to see a mirrored image of the object as you draw and manipulate it, you can do that using the live effect found in:
    Object>Distort&Transform>Transform. In the dialog, enter 1 for Copies, and turn on the Reflect X checkbox. Set other options (horizontal or vertical move distance, proxy box handle point, etc.) as desired.
    Another method:
    1. Select the object. Symbols Palette flyout menu: New Symbol. In the resulting dialog, select Graphic and click OK. The object is now a Symbol Instance.
    2. AltDrag the object to make a copy of it. Use the Reflect Tool to flip it horizontally or vertically, as explained in Post 1.
    3. DoubleClick either of the object's Instances on the page. That puts the Symbol in Isolation mode. Edit the artwork as desired. When done, rightClick it and select Exit Isolation Mode. All other Instances of the Symbol update accordingly.

  • Emailing screen shots (image resizing itself so its unreadable!)

    i'm a big fan of screen shots. i've noticed that since i changed over to leopard if i want to email a screen shot using mac mail it resizes the image so it is completely unreadable. but if i open the screen shot in preview i can view the screen shot at the size i captured it at. any ideas how i can go in and attach it to an email and the email will view & send at actual size. I've tried various things such as going into preview and going to file->mail image. i've tried saving the file as a different type (gif, jpg). i've tried pulling the image into the email body, as well as going and clicking the paperclip to attach. all method result in the same cruddy quality image.

    after you drag an image to the mail composition window, a small button called "Image size" should appear in the lower right corner of the window. Click on it and select "Actual size".

  • How do I rotate an image itself?

    I understand how to use affine transforms to rotate an image as I'm drawing it but I need to rotate the image object itself. I cant find anything in the API. Is there anyway to do this?
    Thanks.

    I meant "How do I rotate an image in java?" I know I can load the image into gimp or whatever and create a new image. But that means my applet will have to download 4 times as many images to the client. I need to rotate an image object itself within java.

  • Images in IE6

    I am having trouble with images not loading in IE6, there
    seems to be no reason for it, sometimes they load sometimes they
    don't. This seems to work fine in IE7 and Firefox2.
    The page giving me the problem is located at
    www.boxclevergifts.co.uk/shop
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Mark

    Hi Mark,
    This is a bug with Internet Explorer 6 and it's handling of
    images in the DOM. It's nothing you are doing wrong. To combat
    this, you have to first pre-load the images in the cache.
    Check out the spry image loader js file that's in version
    1.6. This should help your situation. I ran into this while doing
    pagination for photo galleries.
    Hope this helps!

  • Help with a liquid image

    Hi,
    I am having a problem with an image stretching in IE6. The
    image stretches beyond the height of the screen, but when i adjust
    the window, the image corrects itself. The image works fine in
    safari, firefox and other browsers.
    Attached is the code - please help me...I am going insane!

    Nothing should be above the doc type declaration, your script
    should be
    in the head section, fix that and it *might* work.

  • Images are not comming out when application is running through jar file.

    I have written an application program using j2sdk1.4.1 that needs your help.
    My application folder's contents.....................................................................................
         C:\Examination\Examination.class <-----This is the main class and application's entry point.
         C:\Examination\ExamBox.class
         C:\Examination\PaperSetterBox.class
         C:\Examination\pspBox.class
         C:\Examination\epBox.class
         C:\Examination\TimerBox.class
         C:\Examination\ReportCardBox.class
         C:\Examination\HelpBox.class
         C:\Examination\AboutBox.class
         C:\Examination\Images\(some jpg & gif files)
         C:\Examination\Sounds\(some au files)
    Compilation Report:     There was no error.
    Execution Report :     Was working properly using the command:- java Examination
    Now, I created a jar file for my application in the following steps.................................
              STEP-1:          Firstly, I created a text file(mainclassInfo.txt) that contains
              the line:--     Main-Class: Examination
              This line would be automatically added to the default manifest file when I would include the                name of that text file with the command to create the jar file.
              Location of the text file I created:     C:\mainClassInfo.txt
              STEP-2:          Then I went to C:\Examination and executed the following command(by using                'Command prompt'):--------------------------------------------------------------------
    jar cmf C:\mainClassInfo.txt Examination.jar Examination.class ExamBox.class PaperSetterBox.class pspBox.class epBox.class TimerBox.class ReportCardBox.class HelpBox.class AboutBox.class Images Sounds
    Finally, I got the jar file:-     Examination.jar
    Double clicking on it application ran as it was expected.
    Then, I thought, that as all the files & folders the application needed to run properly were packaged in the jar file; I should delete all the contents of the folder 'Examination', so that no one could see or use anything of the resources easily. I did that.
    So, then it became only:-- C:\Examination\Examination.jar
    Thereafter, I tried to run the application again and there a problem occurred! The application was running, but the images, those were to be used and shown by the application were missing somehow!!
    Moreover, when I kept a copy of those 2 folders('Images' and 'Sounds') into the C:\Examination and ran the application again all the images came out normally!
    I just can't understand why it's happening so mysterious?
    I don't want to leave anything of the resources in an open place; I mean, outside of the jar file. The images should be used and shown by the application.
    Help me please!

    The Image class itself does not have any methods for loading images from files so you must be using something more. Most methods for loading images from files have an overload that lets you use a URL, so you just need to use that method with a call to getResource like in the other thread. If you can't think of anything else, you can use ImageIcon to load an Image (the Image is returned by a call to ImageIcon.getImage). See also "how to use icons" from the swing tutorial:

  • Why can't I open a .jpg image

    I recently copied some images on a CD. I can open half of them and the other half, I get the following message.
    Item "DSC.0647.JPG" is used by Mac OSX and cannot be opened.
    What the heck does that mean? I have tried Preview, Photoshop, PhotoElements, everything to try to open these images and to no avail. There is no difference in the ones I can open, all are .jpg images, and all were copied the same way at the same time. I tried to open them before I upgraded to 10.4.5, and tried after, also tried on my laptop - won't open.....
    Does anyone have any suggestions....I need these images!!!!!

    Is your laptop also a Mac? If not what error mesage
    do you get when trying to open on that machine. If
    it is a Mac, copy the image to something like a USB
    flash drive and try to open on a Windows PC. The
    point is to see if the problem is with the image file
    itself or your Mac.
    Other things to try are as follow:
    1) rename the image. Click on the file name to
    highlight, hit enter and type a new name. If you are
    going to open on a Windows PC you must add the.jpg
    after the name.
    2) Create a new user on your machine and try to open
    the image when logged in as the New User.
    3) Run Check and Fix Permissions from the Disk
    Utiliy.
    Report back here on what you discover and perhaps
    someone will recognise the problem.

    Alan, thank you for your suggestions:
    My laptop is also a MAC and I get the same message. I've actually already tried the other options you mentioned, but to no avail. What I discovered that I did not see at first is that when the images were copied, they somehow were copied and show up as a 2KB file. I know that is not right, since the other images show up as regular large files 1.5 mb etc.
    I copied all the files at the same time, but I did not take the images all on the same day. I cannot imagine how this happened, unless through some means, which I have no clue, my camera settings got messed up somehow and perhaps was set on email size images, but I'd still be able to see and open them. However, I also tried to email the images to myself or someone else and still can't read them. Unless someone has an answer as to how that might have happened, then I have to assume there is nothing I can do to get them restored.
    I believe these images are a loss after seeing the size they copied, and think I've lost those items which is a shame, since you can never duplicate a picture taken at a specific time.....

  • Image file

    I'm trying to open a file from the JFileChooser and turn the selected file into a BufferedImage and display it in a panel.
    I've got no issue selecting an image in the file chooser, however when I tell it to create an Image from the selection, it fails.
    JFileChooser jf = new JFileChooser();
        MyFileFilter ff = new MyFileFilter(new String[] {"jpg", "gif", "png", "tiff"});
        jf.setFileFilter(ff);
        int val = jf.showOpenDialog(this);
        if(val == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {
            Image i = getToolkit().getDefaultToolkit().getImage(jf.getSelectedFile().getAbsolutePath());The absolute path is definitely pointing to an image, I've checked this, but the error I receive when trying to then convert to a bufferedImage is that the width and height of the image are -1 and not what they should be
    Why is this happening?
    Thanks

    This method
    Toolkit.getImage(...)caches previous images, so you'll eventually get a HeapSpace error if you use it. Read the API. What you want is
    Toolkit.createImage(...);Furthermore, Toolkit images need to be flushed when you're ready for them to be garbage disposed (to release native resources). BufferedImage don't need to be flushed.
    image.flush();But in all honesty, forget the Toolkit and go with
    javax.imageio.ImageIO.read(...);That method returns a BufferedImage already.
    EDIT
    This bit of code
    g2d.drawImage(BI, 0, 0, this);Dosen't make sense. You're drawing an image onto itself.
