An image mutes film sound, how do I have it continue?

I'm having some issues with iMovie 11. I had recorded an interview of my grandmother using iMovie 9. I have since upgraded to iMovie 11 and I would like to finish editing the movie.
To break up the interview, I have quite a few pictures I would like to 'overlay' over her speaking to reflect different periods of her life, of which she is discussing in the background. Once I drag the image into iMovie 11 from the photo browser (all of the images are in iPhoto), the audio portion (her speaking) of the film stops and it's merely the still image for a number of seconds.
All I want to accomplish is to have the audio of the film continue in the background, but I can't for the life of me figure this out. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Turn on advanced tool
Use Picture and picture (drop the photo on the video track where you want it)
Zoom the pic full frame
or
select the clip and extract/detach the audio
replace the video with the pic

to prevent every clip from becoming unlinked as you add it to the timeline, be sure LINK is activated. It is a chainlink button in the upper right corner of my timeline but yours might be different.

In that case I'm afraid you're out of luck. Your N82 was obviously intended for a region where the camera must make a noise.

Don't edit the audio into the timeline. Or pull the audio level down to zero in the inspector or on the audio waveform in the timeline.

How to mute incomming sound from all callers when ...

We sometimes transmit a meeting for worship to sick ones who dial in to listen. If they don't remember (or don't know how to) mute their microphones we get feedback through the PA because the laptop headphone socket is fed into the PA to play music.
Is there a button I've not yet seen in Skype that will "Mute all incomming sound from callers"?

I've never tried this but I think its what you are after.
On the skype menu, go to Tools and then Options
Select Sounds
The is an option to Mute all sounds - this should stop any incoming sound including erroneous cam and mic audio from all callers and I think will allow your outgoing sound to transmit ok.

It was red earlier, but not now.
Then try again. The red light indicates that an analog plug jammed the digital audio-out port in the "mute" position. The spec for the tip-to-shoulder distance is apparatenly tighter for digital ports than it is for analog plugs.
On my MacBook Pro, I insert the headphone plug only enough to hear that I have proper sound, and then quit pushing. In this photo, the headphones are giving proper sound quality and separation but the jack's stop shoulder, on a pair of name-brand headphones, is obvioulsy not touching the computer case.
The iMac has the same kind of port. Don't stick plugs in all the way--just until you here proper sound.

System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

My phone is on silent but my camera still makes sound how do I turn that off ?

I have an iPhone 6 and i turned all my phone onto silent and there's no sound what so ever but once I take a picture it makes sound how do i turn it off it won't stop every time I take a picture !

If your iPhone is muted using the Ring/Silent switch on the side of your iPhone and you're still hearing the shutter sound, this function may be disabled.
Adjust the volume of the shutter sound with the Ringer and Alerts settings in Settings > Sounds. Or mute the sound using the Ring/Silent switch. (In some countries, muting is disabled.)

There is no 'mute internet sounds' option in OS X. The game you're playing should give you the option to turn off sounds - look for options or settings on the page immediately before you start playing the game. It will probably be a button in the list below the 'play' button.

Back in the day...
I had a mini headphone jack adapter that wasn't hooked to any headphones. I'd just pop that in the audio jack on the front of my computer and leave it there. That was back when you couldn't turn the startup sound off.
Maybe that would work for you too. You know... those iPod ear buds only seem to work for so long before they crud out... I've got a mess of them that I never use anymore... I'd just cut the end off one of those... hmmm... sounds like an eBay sale for sure!!!

There is no option for turning off the start-up sound (which is actually meant to signal the end of a successful hardware check). I believe there are (or used to be) third party gadgets which might turn it off, but I always shy away from such things.
The simplest solution is to mute your sound before you shutdown/restart.

I see that you are having problems with the sound on your HP computer. I have a couple of suggestions that may help with this issue.
Have you checked what programs are open on the computer?
I would suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Are you using Windows 8?
