An iPhone web simulator for designers

this is the best siteapp I've seen, however I have some questions for the seeqpod people who have logged on this forum. I'm in no way intending these questions to be seen as flaming because I love the concept.
1. How is your service legal?
2. Are you concerned that your database is an open invitation for the RIAA to go straight to the stored source of copyright infringement and get a lot of people in trouble despite your potential innocence?
3. Would a service like yours potentially better serve the hundreds of thousands of independent artists who are freely giving their music away right now on the web?
Again - not a flame in any way, just important questions. Ive been using seeqpod for 2 straight days

Xcode iPhone/iPad Simulator?

Does anyone know if you can use the Xcode iPhone/iPad Simulator for Mac with Indesign and DPS to view on rather than the Indsign viewer? I have seen people like Colin Fleming look to using it in some of his videos on DPS.
One downside to the Indesign view is that it can show things that don't work on an iPad becasue they do work in indesign and it can be confusing at times, especially for new users.
If you can, any help, suggestion, links to how to's would be greatly appreciated.

No vector images in web-app for iPhone !?

I am developping a web-app for the iPhone
as the bandwith is low (in edge mode) I want to use vector images instead of bitmaps (gif, png ...)
- but flash (.swf) is not supported
- SVG is not supported, only Canvas is supported
- but no "Canvas editor" is available (I don’t want to draw icones using hundreds of javascript lines ! )
- and no "SVG,SWF -> Canvas" convertor is available
Am I wrong ?
Is there any solution ?
Is 1.1.3 now solving the problem (SVG now supported ?)

I made some tests, a vectorized icon could be 30 times smaller (and therefore faster to load) than its ".png" version !
15ko in edge mode = about 1 second to wait ...

Web gallery for iPad and iPhone -- your suggestions

Hi,
My current website has Flash-based galleries created in LR using SlideShowPro. I want to create an alternate web gallery for viewing on the iPad and iPhone. Can someone here recommend a LR web gallery plug-in for this purpose? If possible, I'd like the gallery to work the way the iPhone Camera Roll works, but at very least, I'd like viewers to be able to simply flick their way through the images. (SlideShowPro Director does this, but I'm not quite ready to take on its complexity.)

Someone else just asked this and I answered. You can use the hard drive publish service to push photos into a gallery that synchronizes with iTunes. It works really well.

I use the hard drive publish service to create galleries for my iPad. I setup iTunes to sync photos from a particular folder, and then setup Lightroom to publish to that folder. Each time I want to create a new gallery for my iPad, I just create a new published folder and drop the photos into that folder. Then I publish the photos. The publish feature allows me to update photos in collections easily, as well as setup specific sizes for export to my iPad.
I have also used published smart collections for my portfolio images. When I tag a photo with a particular gallery keyword, it gets added to the collection. I then just publish the photos in the service and I've got them on my ipad. It works really well!
Setup a hard drive publish service
Open the Library module
Go to the Publish Services.
Press the + to and choose Go to publishing manager.
Click Add
Choose Hard drive as the service type. Name the publish service iPad Photos
Choose to export your photos to a specific location. Make note of this location and instruct iTunes to use the same location for synchronizing photos. Do not choose to put in a subfolder.
Choose the format as JPEG, Color space as sRGB, and set your quality in the File Settings section.
Choose to resize your photos to fit the iPad in the image resizing section. I have chosen Width & Height of 1500x1500. This will give black bars if your photo doesn't match the aspect ratio of the iPad. You can also choose Dimensions and set a dimension. The output photo will be cropped to fill the screen. I have an iPad 2 and wanted to be able to zoom a bit, so I chose dimensions larger than the iPad.
Set the other options as needed -- sharpening, metadata, and watermarking.
Click Save.
Back at the Library module you should now find your new publish service. Create a gallery.
Right click the service and choose Create Published Folder.
Name the folder the name you want to appear in your iPad Photos app.
Drop files from the photo browser into this new collection.
Right click the collection and choose Publish Now.
Repeat these 4 steps anytime you want to create a new gallery on your iPad.
All you need to do now is to sync the photos on your ipad using iTunes.

I'm looking to develop a web site for use by the iPhone. Is there a best practice around development? Should I be detecting and redirecting to a dedicated location (http://iphone.name.com), or detecting and using an iPhone friendly CSS file?

You can register at no charge to be an 'entry level' developer and gain access to the iPhone Development Center by going to this page. The iPhone Reference Library, Tech Talk Videos and sample code projects are all available once you have logged in using your Apple ID.

Web Apps for iPhone Testing Anyone?

I got my post removed because it was was regarded "advertisement". My company developed an iPhone Chat service and have noticed that Apple does not have any developer forums. Perhaps one of yous can direct us in the right direction. We would like iPhone users to test our iPhone web app, but do not want to "advertise" any further.

IPhone Web App - Mail link breaks stackLayouts

Hi,
I'm having a problem with an iPhone Web Application that I'm building that uses stackLayouts to navigate around. On the contact page I have a mailto link that opens up the iPhone/iPod Mail.app when clicked.
When a user clicks on this link, Mail.app pops up with the email address pre-populated, completely as expected.
Now that Mail.app is open, I can either cancel or send a message, but when I return to the Web App, all the stackLayouts seem to be broken, the only links on that page that seem to still work are the ones that open up the Maps application. Refreshing the page doesn't work, it needs a complete reload before it will work again.
Additionally, it seems that buttons with event handlers set through the Dashcode property inspector break completely (as in, they don't receive click events after Mail.app is closed). Buttons with a custom event handler still fire their click event.
I'm wondering if anyone has had similar issues, and maybe found a solution for it.
If anyone is interested to look at this, I can put a zip of the test case project online somewhere. The test project is a Dashcode project file, I can also put the exported version (including zip) online of course.

OK, I've got a copy of my test case online, it's over at http://geekyjohn.com/lab/iphone/
If you click through to the "stacklayout_issue" folder, there is a zip file containing the Dashcode project and another folder containing the exported code. If you view this on an iPhone/iPod/Simulator you will be able to run the test case. (Just head to geekyjohn.com/lab/iphone/ with MobileSafari and click through to the "stacklayout_issue" and "mailtobreaks_stacklayoutcase" folders respectively)
KT: I've tested this in MobileSafari on iPod, iPhone and on a Simulator with iPhone OS 3, same results on all 3
I was doing some more testing and noticed that if I went back to the Home screen and then back in to Safari the app would work correctly. This seems to support my suspicion in this being a focus bug in MobileSafari.

Iphone web app

i am thinking of developing a web app for the iphone. if i do not plan on charging for it do i have to go through the approval process? can people start using it immediately. i do realize that it would not be on itunes but that is okay with me.

Hi,
No need to do approval process for iphone web apps. But if u want to advertise ur apps on iPhone users through Apple Store then u have to register with Apple Developer Center.

IPhone Web App Directory

Does anyone know if there is a version of the Apple iPhone web app directory formatted for the iPhone? Every time I go to load the page it displays full.

Why not use your desktop or laptop computer to create collection of bookmarks for the iPhone.
In Safari the top left collection on my bookmarks bar is called iPhone. Those bookmarks synch automatically with the iPhone.

Creating An iPhone Web App

I am creating a web app for the iPhone. The program I am trying to build, is an Inventory web app. I am trying to make the web app add, remove, and movie certain items to different rooms within this app. I know the task I am taking on is big, but I plan to learn. I new to programming. Can anyone help me threw the process.
p.s.- I started up Dashcode, and starting using the browser template, and I managed to play around with that, But I need help.

I too would like to know this. As sometimes you can't go online, being able to create web apps that can be used offline, simple ones, like games maybe, that could be stored "locally" on the iPhone, or more appropriately the iPod Touch (Since it has no 3G and Wifi isn't everywhere) so you could use them when in an area without internet access.

Test webi report for Mobile (iPad) with Xcode in a Mac

I need to develop some reports which will be visualized in an iPad.
I'm using a VM with Mountain Lion + Xcode. I know that Xcode is widely used by Mac developers. What I'm trying to achieve is the following:
1) Develop some webi reports for mobile, using MicroCharts, Scorecards, etc.
2) Test reports visualization without using a real Ipad (we don't have any).
Of course, no. 2) is the real problem. I'm trying to accomplish this using Xcode, anyone know the way? As far as I cocern, what I need to do is to give Xcode a proper URL (open document of developed report). Am I getting close?

Hi Pablo,
You can down the SDK for the SAP BusinessObjects Mobile app from the SMP. You can then use Xcode to generate an .ipa file.
Use the iOS simulator in Xcode to load the .ipa and then you will have the app installed.
Connect to you BI server with the app.

Problem - 1: I am trying to develop an iPhone Web Application –(client ) using eclipse IDE( version - 3.3 Europa)

It is not working getting error “Network connection error”. Even when I tried to download the same from the Browser (Safari and FireFox) it is not working .
Is there any other way to download the same from Network – Please Guide .

But I am not able to understand how to proceed for the same .
Does iUI kit work only with Eclipse . If yes is there any specific version which we need to download ?

GUI iPhone web app builder like iWeb

Does anyone know if someone has built a GUI iPhone web app builder?
I am very interested in building an iPhone site in conjunction with the development of my new site http://www.thecutsquad.com , my main interest in this is so that there is an optimized site for the iphone without having to load all of the rich media which I will be hosting.
So if I could build an iPhone specific website like http://app.getleaflets.com/ where I can host content media optimized for iPhone viewing over EDGE and people who are browsing using the iSafari (is that what we are calling it these days?) are redirected automatically without having to type in a specific web address, although I do not mind having a sub-domain which hosts this.
So, anyone know of anything, or is anyone interested in helping with the development of such an application?
Also, what would I need, if no application exist like this, to start coding web 2.0 and Ajax? I am new to all of this web development stuff, but I learn extremely quick when I am pointed in the right direction.

a web building application that is similar to iWeb, except that it builds web 2.0 pages.
I'm not sure that phrase has much concrete meaning. For the iPhone you often essentially try create the "javascript in a web page" equivalent of a desktop app. You get the javascript from libraries or compose it yourself with a text editor, and integrate it into the html created by any web editor.
Here is an example I happen to be familiar with, a virtual keyboard for other languages, where you can examine the source (to get everything, download as a webarchive and folderize it).
