An odd "kind" problem with some m4a files

I have 610 m4a files that iTunes thinks are mpeg-4 video files, while the Finder clearly shows that they're audio files. I only discovered this recently when I got my first video iPod, and went to sync my usual playlist of songs. In the first moments of the sync, I received an error message that stated that some of the video files I was trying to sync weren't compatible with my video iPod. This was a shock, as I hadn't yet selected any video files to sync. I tracked all the files down and found that they all shared the same problem. I've looked at them with a few extra info utilities and nothing seems out of the ordinary. I'm wondering if this is just a bug with iTunes? If it is, it wasn't fixed with 7.0.1,
I even went so far as creating a new user account, setting up a fresh (and empty iTunes) and adding a few of the files in question. Same problem...iTunes thinks it's a video file, yet the Finder thinks it's a audio file (which it is!). This seems to rule out iTunes library corruption and points the finger more at the file.
I went ahead and removed all of these files from my library and they're sitting in limbo in a folder on my desktop. Any tips? Anyone else having similar problems?

Problems with some PDF files

Hi,
I have problems with some PDF files. After clicking on link to the file Safari shows me insted of normal document (which is working on Windows) hashes, numbers etc like it was a problem with coding or something. First I was using Preview, I though that maybe installing Acrobat Reader with plugins will solve the problem, but ofcourse it didn't. Did somebody has this same problem?

Back up all data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
defaults delete -app Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Quit Safari. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

EMERGENCY! Problem with an .m4a file

I was recording an episode of my podcast (Radio Allegro- radio-allegro.com) and for some reason my software quit on me. I was using Audio HiJack and recording multiple people in Skype. I have never had a problem before, but when I repopened Audio Hijack Pro it was like I had never recorded anything. When I found the file the .m4a file was obviously corrupted. My question is: is there a way to fix this and if so and with what. If you can answer this question I will publish your name on my site and give you the DVD of your choice. PLEASE HELP!!

A few questions - (although most likely you're probably screwed):
What's the file size like? Does it look like the data could be intact? For example - if you think you've recorded an hour of audio - and your file size is only like 150K or something - most likely your data is gone.
If the filesize looks like it's in order for what you think should be in there...then it could be just a header screwup in the data file. Theoretically - you could get into the file and figure the headers out - adjust them properly - and go from there...
I've managed to pull that kind of stuff off a few times in the past with corrupted data files - but most often - your stuff is just gone.

Printing problem with some pdf files

This problem is with Windows 7 and XP.
When trying to print I receive the following error:
"The Document could not be printed.
There were no pages selected to print."
I tried the print image button and same error.
This is Adobe Reader 10
I have also tried saving to different files and still same problem.

I've tested the issue again with Adobe Reader 10.1.4 on MS Windows XP Pro. SP3, MS Windows 7 Pro. SP1 32-bit and 64-bit with the following drivers:
- HP Universal Printing PS package ver. 5.5.0.12834 (driver ver. 61.130.04.12834) for printing to HP LaserJet 4100 DTN (224 MiB of RAM) and HP Color LaserJet 4700dn (288 MiB of RAM)
- Samsung Universal Print Driver PS ver. 2.03.09.00_41 for printing to Samsung ML-3051DN printer with 64 MiB of RAM
Printing of the sample 6-page PDF file (https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=ojv64pOBncq6XxtSiRqSkw) is still slow because the document stays long in the Windows print queue. Here are the test results:
- printing with the HP UPD PS driver - 120 sec.
- printing with the Samsung UPD PS driver - 220 sec.
When the same PDF file is printed in FoxitReader 5.4.4 the document stays in the print queue for only 15 sec.
Enabling the Print As Image option in the Reader's Advanced Print Setup can help to some degree (it gives better kB/sec. ratio but it increases the size of the print job).
I'd really appreciate it if developers at Adobe improved the Reader in order to solve the issue with the PS drivers.

Problem with some video files after upgrading to iPhoto'11 ...

I just realized that after converting from iPhoto'09 to iPhoto'11, I found 176 small video files that don't play anymore. All problem files, can be found in iPhoto with a «.MOV» search. When played I get this error message (it's in French :
The problem is that I cannot find any file nested in my iPhoto Library corresponding to the iPhoto's info (name or size). I get no corresponding file. Also most of these «.MOV» files seem to have another file that plays and that is bigger. It could be the original file or maybe my real file ... As an example, one «.MOV» file is named MVI_6480Web and the original that works is named MVI_6480. Not all problem files as the Web suffixe though.
I did not pass all those 176 files one by one, so I am not sure what is the exact problem. I wonder if some of you can help me understand what is going on ?

you bought an upgrade to a separate application. i'm sure the iLife'11 manuals don't state a guarantee of compatibility with any appletv?
i'm not saying this is definitely the cause, but in the past there has usually been a requirement for an update when new iLife products were released.
Is it so unlikely to have an upgrade of ATV 1stG ?
the original appletv has been replaced and as such i doubt there will be any more software updates at all.

Command + R gives you access to restore, repair, or reformat the drive using OS X Recovery
No idea why that was suggested.
You may have a third party video player installed that's causing an incompatibility issue.

The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder.The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.

Problem importing some .MOV files into Premiere Elements 11

Hello,
I am trying to import film footage into Premiere Elements 11 and am coming across a rather confusing problem. All of the footage is in .mov format and all of it was taken on the same device on the same day with the same settings.
When I try to import the footage, some files import ok, others will not import at all and I get a message saying 'The importer reported a generic error'. It seems very odd to me that some .MOV files are OK and others are not.
This same footage can easily be imported into Premiere Elements 10 and into Windows Movie Maker - which makes me think the issue is with Premiere Elements 11.
Does anyone have any ideas on this?

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it? Did you use Premiere Elements to get the video from the camcorder to your computer?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime installed on your computer?

Problems with spaces in file or directory names and Word.exe

I'm trying to open a file with Word from my java aplication, and I have a problem with some file/directory names.
I have this

Here is what happens:
if path is something like this: "c:\people\info.doc" , there's no problem, Word opens the document, but if path contains blank spaces somewhere, it doesn't work. For example:
path = "c:\Documents and Settings\info.doc"
path = "c:\Hi everybody\info.doc"
path = "c:\tests\test results.doc"
with the above examples it doesn't work :( Word tries to open "c:\Documents", "c:\Hi" or "c:\tests\test".
Can anyone help? thanx a lot ! : )

Hint: use the variant Runtime.exec(String[] args).
Create a command array, with each token in a separate argument. The entire filename with spaces goes into one argument.

Tempo problems with imported wav files

Hey everyone, sorry if there's a quick fix for this in the forums that I couldn't find, but I've been having some tempo problems with imported .wav files.
Long story short, my system couldn't handle playing all the tracks for a song while recording drums, so I bounced out an mp3 of the song and put it in a new Logic file so my drummer could just play along to that as I recorded him. Unfortunately, the original song is at 167 bpm, but I forgot to change the bpm in the new Logic file with the .mp3 file of the song to 167 bpm, so it was left at the default 120 bpm.
So, the drums were recorded at the correct 167 bpm, but Logic thinks that those new drum .wav files should be played at 120 bpm, so when I import my drum tracks back into the original file, they do not play correctly at all.
I could get record it all again, but I wanted to check if there was a way I could salvage what I already have, since my drummer lives about an hour away right now and can't just come over whenever he wants.

First, do not use MP3 in Logic, the sound quality is less than AIFF, WAV or CAF, and Logic has to decode it for playback, making it a heavier burden on the CPU than an uncoded audiofile, such as AIFF, WAV or CAF.
Secondly, audio files are independent of Logic's tempo. If you bounce down an audio file in any format (other than Apple Loop), it will play back at the same speed, +regardless of Logics' tempo setting+, either at recording or playback. Logic doesn't 'think' anything. The BPM is only important to MIDI tracks, or to the spacing between audio files. The audio files themselves *are not affected* by the tempo setting. If you import an audio file of tempo 167 into a 120 BPM project, the file will still play at 167, only Logic will indicate the wrong bar positions.

Problem with uploading a file in Clustered Environment

I have a problem with uploading a file in a clustered environment. I have an iview component which facilitates an upload action of an xml config file. The problem is that the upload of the modified XML file is reflected only in the central instance of the cluster and not in the dialog instances. The dialog instances hold the old config file.
Is there any solution to upload the file to all the nodes in the cluster.

Hi,
This is a known problem with clustered environment. Remember that your portal component runs on just on dialog instance and it doesn't automatically have access to the other nodes. However, there are some ways to get around this
1. Use KM to store files. KM is a common repository for all application servers and therefore you needn't worry more
2. Use an external batch oriented product (suresync/robocopy) to synch folders on the different DIs. You basically use your existing portal component, but there is a batch job which makes sure the upload folder is identical on all DIs (however, there is a slight delay depending on how often you run the batch job)
3. Store the files on a shared disk directly from the portal component.

I've been trying to understand the problem I'm having with some audio files of my website, but to no avail. Some audio file are not loaded up with Quicktime, and only show a question mark with a blue "Q" around it.

You could cut your files names like < Beethovens_Piano_Concerto_no._2_in_B-flat_major%2C_op._19_-_i._Allegro_conbrio.html >
to something like BthvnPC2BfM.
Publish to a folder and look in the "Media" folder to see that all your files are there.
A better way to provide a download is to ZIP the music file and link to it via "Link to: A file" in the Link Inspector.
Type "Download" over the file name that appears and select your rollover colors and U or not in the format page.

Problem viewing some video files

I get this problem only with some video files, not all. They are all .mov files so it's hard to tell what is causing it. What it looks like is that the video and sound plays but the video is "barred out" with thick white stripes so it looks like three is only 1 pixel size width of video showing through. almost like this:
"menu bar here"
Just pretend with the dotted lines, you can see the video in it's place. I tried reinstalling quicktime but it does not work. Any ideas

It seems I have two networks available at work, one is behind our firewall, and I login to it. This is the network that I can't view streaming video. There is also a "Guest" network that I don't need to login to. This one works with the YouTube and the news site videos.
Thus, I conclude there is a setting that WiFi network administrators can invoke that specifically can block streaming video on some protocols (whatever the ipod touch uses) and not others (whatever the Macbook uses). But the same router hardware supplying the Guest network does not block these protocols. Presumably this has to do with security on one side of the firewall(?)
Anyway, apparently outside of the WiFi controls available in the ipod touch settings.

(using Win2000) when given an absolute pathname;

But it can't find theFile. I am not sure what's wrong.

No that can't be it; he takes the filename from the command line, so escaping isn't an issue (unless he used a shell that unescaped '\\' for him, but I think he's using the win2000 cmd shell).
Dunno, I have no idea of your filesystem or shell. Just do some debugging, around the lines of:
File f = new File(theFile);
if (f.exists()) {
System.err.println(theFile + " exists.");
} else {
System.err.println(theFile + " doesn't exist.");
}

My problem related with some symbols in Bold .
After upgrading Adobe Reader to 9, I got some problems with my PDF Files.

Notes :
1- I was using Adobe Reader 5.0 and I didn't get this problem.
2- I tried Foxit Reader and I didn't get the problem too.
3- All needed fonts are embedded to PDF Files.

Please post a link to a questionable file.
