An overclocker/modders dream come true - 7900gt?

I have been reading about the simple conductive pen volt mod for the 7900gt to get it to a 7900gtx level of performance...wow...if true and this easy, this could be an all time overclockers/modders dream come true.  So if you thinking about upgrading and willing to mod your vid card, this may well be the card to get!
Here is but just one discussion with pictures on the volt mod for the 7900gt.  I know that this will void my warranty, but isnt the risk worth the benefit?  I wonder if nvidia will try and "fix" this so you wont be able to do it in the future.  Anyway, Im waiting another 60 days to see if these users start reporting blown cards so I just dont happen to mod mine too soon...any comments?

The picture you provided looks far simplier than the first one I posted in the link I provided.  Was this because later you or users traced it back to this one chip and pins?
Actually it started with the chip.  After looking at the white papers it was discovered it was a binary input VRM setting the output voltage.  The concern was that the pins are so small that beginners/intermediate users will not be able to solder or short the pins.  Those pins were later traced to areas of the board where the user has more room to work.  I thought the d511 to that ground pad was the easiest way for the masses to get 1.4v so I posted the "yellow line" picture.  There are tons of ways to do the various mod, I have seen other ways to get the extra 1.15 volts for 1.55v total that maybe more appealing to your style of modding.  The way I did it was the d511 to ground yellow line which gives 1.4v, then also the shorting of pins 30-32 on the chip to get the 1.55v, both mods are required for 1.55v.  The 2nd part of the mod in the picture I posted here is actually a bit more patience inspiring then you would think.  Those pins are small.  I use a sewing needle with so little conductive paint you could hardly see it and I still got a pretty big blob on there.
Quote
In some of the other threads on either xstreamsys or guru3d, they talk about modifiy the card greatly to get to 1.7 or more volts...but when I look at the difference in performance of a pen/paint mod which is reversable and a 1.7 mod, I dont see a huge increase in performance.
The 1.7v mod is only for the extreme user.  It requires soldering and is not worth it in my opinion.  You are effectively changing the chip to read Intel VRM code from AMD VRM.(So you get output options up to 1.7 with the same binary inputs.).  I also think the gains are minimal to pump that kind of voltage through the chip.  The damage possible is not worth a few more clocks.
Quote
I also read somewhere that these 7900gts shouldnt go above the 1.4 volts....how true is that.
The core themselves are the same, so 1.4v(default for GTX) is beyond a doubt safe.  Going above that...same as overclocking the CPU I suppose,.... risk is involved but staying around 10% or lower overvoltage probably will not shorten the life of the card enough that it will be obsolete before it dies.
There was some initial concern about the fact the voltage regulators are different on the GT's then the GTX's.  I forget the numbers but I measured temps from 1.2v to 1.55v with a contact temperature probe and noticed a slightly evelavated temperature(something like 5-8C) on the mosfets and chokes.  Supposedly the overcurrent protection will shut them down if they draw more current(making the heat) then they can handle by design.  This one I'm not so sure about.  It very well could shorted the life of the card drastically, not the GPU but the voltage regulator.  It may be a time will tell thing, however I haven't heard of any deaths do to a properly done mod yet but it's only been a month and a half.  Personally I didn't see anything getting so hot that it had me concerned that immediate death was coming.
1. I either use a conductive pen or window defogger repair kit.  I think it's harder to remove the window fogger once dried though but it still comes off.  I got my pen at Fry's Electronics but they don't have Fry's everywhere, they might at Radio Shack.  The window defogger repair kit is in most Auto Part Stores.
2.  I'm not really sure about the Zalman 700.  What I would do is the 1.4v mod from d511 to ground.  Run ATI Tool and monitor the temperatures to determine if you are going to have the cooling capacity headroom for 1.55v
3.  One of the cards I had could only do 640 at 1.4v, still a nice improvement from the 580Mhz it could do at stock 1.2v.  Like I said above I would try 1.4v at see what it gets you.  If you are 650 +/- 10 then I'd just stop there.  You then end up giving the card alot more volts for smaller gains.
4. Yes I like ATI Tool. If you are artifact free in it, usually I notice no issues in games.  Not that I play tons of games though...
I also recommend a multimeter, but not necessary.  I like to verify my work.  Checking continuity between my shorted pins, and isolation from pins near the mod.  There are pictures that show the test point for Vgpu also.

    Hi l1e0n5,
Before anyone else posts some obnoxious stuck up comment about speculation, i thought id get in there first! As much as a lot of Apple users would share your anticipation no one can say for sure that it is a definite for an MB 'Touch'
Its all a waiting game when it comes to Apple products but its looking likely that Apple are going to hold an event some time in Sept so who knows! As users on the forums though we cant speculate! We can live in hope though! Good Luck!

  • Logic dream come true?

I have multiple MIDI tracks that I want to bounce individually and I was wondering if there was a way that I could do that in one take and bounce all the tracks to individual files. So, I want the bongo track to bounce to one file and I want the piano track to bounce to its own track, etc on one play through, instead of having to do one entire play through for each track bounce. Thanks for the help!

    hi.
go to file menu>export>All tracks as Audio files.
    only works with VI's.
if you are using external synths, real time, one track at a time is the way.

  • How to come true a constant temperature control through PCI 7344

I have one PCI-7344 to control three motors.I also need to come true a constant temperature control through 7344.
using "Analog Input"and "Analog Reference",is it possible to come true the control.
To come true it, what others I need?

    Langtian,
In general the PID control loop of the 7344 can be used for a wide
variety of control applications. You can use the analog inputs to
acquire the feedback signals and the analog outputs to control e. g.
torque, flow rates and so on. For temperature control the board seems
to be a bit oversized as temperatures typically change very slowly
compared to the high control loop rates of the 7344 but this shouldn't
    result in a problem.
Please note that the "Analog Reference" Output can't be used for
control tasks as this is a static analog output fixed to 7.5 V which
    can't be changed.
For more information about how to use NI motion control boards with analog feedback please refer to this link and to this document.

My main problem with something like this is that, essentially you're tying together lots of recognized standards i.e. Protools, Logic, Cubase, with a proprietary format, i.e. Euphonix. So cross compatibility may awkward, and clients won't be familiar with it.
With Compatibility it use's Madi which is a partner of RME, therefore when it comes to Compatible it gets no better believe!
This thing is not new to the game its been out since 1999 making it 8 years in development
merging with Giants like Digi-Design/Steignberg/Apple/Madi/Apogee/Digital-Performer and more bringing them to the table, its a take over,
for the very first time all these Giants working together.
However it won't be cheap, i think its aim for the top guys in the Music/Audio Industry and fat cats that integrates with Audio/video then its a must have.
Secondly for post-production with the M.C. rig. who has client that pays well, but then again for those who are freak in Technology.
Key-Command on the M.C. is so easy to modify for just about anyone its a joke, and the work-Flow is so fast.
check below on how easy this thing is, another two three years then its a must have,
even just using Logic, or Pro-Tools on it own with the M.C. Console, its lighting speed it seems in the Video below,

I'm looking to create a flash multiplayer game and would like to use Stratus for p2p.  I have high hopes for this game and let's say it becomes the next big thing and I start having a couple 100k users playing everyday.  What can I do to ensure that my game is not blocked by the Stratus service or that it won't have significant down time?
I read that Stratus will never exit beta and that p2p will eventually be moved into FMS, but there is no timeline/roadmap that I've been able to find.

You might have a point but by judging from past history. Nokia rarely "refreshes" with major construction upgrades. It would be like selling a normal car then introducing one with a new engine, turbo, interior, etc.... If something comes out, it will be a successor to the N85 but it will not be N85 branded. The N85 is seen as the successor to the N81 series.
The fact that they have not released a software update yet is a good sign that they have reworked quite many things and that they are testing them. I remain hopeful.

  • [Share]Have you heard "Beginner's luck" after assembling a new PC?

    Source:http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=174&t=4197107&p=1#53642903
    Well, long, long time ago….
The man’s dream is gaming with his girlfriend, and through the amazing gaming skill to take a place in the girl’s heart.
However, my girlfriend is using a very old notebook which the brand is Sony.
I was too poor to buy her a new PC, so I can’t make the gaming dream come true…
After a year that I tighten my belt, I save the money for this high end PC.
(even much better than my PC…..)
My is AMD 970 MB, as I remembered the cost was about USD1, 000.00 and the new rig is about double of that!!
Basically, I buy all the components separately, let’s see:
    CPU – Intel i7-4790
    MB– MSI Z97 GAMING 5
    VGA – MSI GTX970 gaming 4G
    Memory – Geil DDR3 Dual channel 2133MHz 8GB
Power – 500W SilverStone Strider Essential Series
Case – SilverStone Fortress Series FT04
HDD – WD…. It is my old one… Just settle for it. Cause I really don’t have much to buy a new one…
As for the color, my girl likes white, after search for a while I only can see sliver one. (most of the case are black)
    (picture from official website)
Silver, ATX, although it is for ATX, but when I put my MB inside, looks like an ITX….
The case comes with 2 fans in front, and you can adjust the fan speed. Basically I tuned it to max, I don’t think it will have any different on the noise level.
As for the power switch, it is designed on the left side.
HDD can be assembled separately instead of disassemble whole PC, quite convenience.
As for the memory, I use Geil, the design and color are quite nice, as well as the price, so I took the sales’ recommendation. Cost USD70.00
ow is about MB, I was thinking maybe can assemble an overclocking PC, but after searching online, lots of users recommend MSI Z97 Gaming 5, and there is no white MB at that time, so I just bought MSI gaming MB with black and red theme.
    Then, the tragedy happened………
MSI just launched the white theme motherboard…. Z97S SLI Krait Edition……
And my Z97 Gaming 5 cannot be returned…..so… I just lie to my girlfriend that there is no white MB…finger crossed that she will not find out…..
Otherwise, the MB will be under my knees not in the case….
This is the one….why can’t MSI launch it earlier….
Forget about the sorrow, overall that MSI gaming motherboard is really nice.
All the features satisfy gamers’ needs, like they enhance the audio, and equipped with Killer LAN on gaming series MB.
Well, so far so good, no complain.
Like people said: good things come in pair, but it became bad thing come in pair to me….
I was planning to buy a 660 for this rig, I think it will be enough for my girlfriend.
Who knows that GTX970 got launched, and it is not that expensive….so…. I changed 660 to 970 and plus the CPU 4790….
Although just add few penny, but I really don’t want to live the life with bread…
Here are some pictures with shinning LED.
Just find out that VGA also have LED with dragon, can tuned as shinning, breathing, on and off. Amazing!!
This is whole rig picture, I bought the red fan to match the MB theme color.
There is a red line nearby the audio chipset section, according to the information online, they made some adjustment for the audio to avoid the Interference.
Let’s run this new rig with 3D Mark.
(I am not sure how to see the numbers with the efficiency actually….)
Then let’s try out LOL ~
Wow~~ NEW rig with good luck. How amazing it is!!!
I tried again for to make a team with friends, see ~~ this is the first time that I got this number!
In order to figure it out if this is really about luck or not, I tried another game: Diablo 3 Farming. The rumor said it will increase the mission success rate when you use a new pc…. Well, I was thinking it just a rumor….but I was wrong…..
This is the result within 1.5 hours… see the magic?
So, I opened my mobile to play Tower of Saviors….
How lucky am I!!! 3 special cards in a row during the lucky draw… that didn’t happen in my live until now….
Last one try out this mobile game not that popular as Tower of Saviors….
Well…. I am on my way to buy the lottery…

    so funny hahaha
I trust that ''Beginner's luck” is real.! good luck for the game, bro~

  • Is 420 watts enough?

    Hi Folks!
I wrote a while back asking for help with a PT880 system that kept crashing and then staying frozen for several hours. After trying out a different PSU - unfortunately, also only 350 watts - and getting similar instability but no more lengthy freezes, I've pretty much concluded that I need a better PSU. (But just to make sure, I've also RMA'd the mobo.)
Anyway ... I need to choose between two PSUs: the TSP 420 (420 watts) and the TSP 450 (450 watts - with a lot more on the 12v line). What's your call: Do you guys think the TSP 420 will give me enough juice to run my rig or do I need to take the more powerful unit?
Demands: See below. Note, this is a Northwood CPU, not a Prescott. But I have a softmodded 9500@9700 running. And I'd like to be able to do a *modest* bit of overclocking on this system - say, maybe from 2.8 to the 3.4 - to keep video filters purring. Otherwise, my sig tells the story.
I've dredged up the specs on both PSUs:
    1) TSP 420 (roughly translated):
    ATX Netzteil AMD/ Intel P4
    420 Watt Total
    220 Watt combined (+3,3 and +5 Volt)
    180 Watt kombinierte (+12,0 Volt)
    aktive Leistungsfaktorkorrektur (PFC)
    maximale Belastbarkeit der einzelnen Schienen:
    +3,3 Volt: 26 A
    +5,0 Volt: 42 A
    +12 Volt: 18 A
    +5 Volt Standby: 2,5 A
This model has great reviews and can be had at very good prices. There is a newer model out, the TSP 450, with the following specs:
    2) TSP 450
    Gesamtleistung 450 Watt
    +3.3V&+5V: 220W
    +3.3V&+5V&+12V: 430W
    + 3,3 Volt 28 A
    + 5 Volt 45 A
    + 12 Volt 22 A
    - 5 Volt 0,8 A
    - 12 Volt 1,0 A
    + 5 Volt Vsb 2,5 A
This piece is newer and a lot more expensive. Not much info out there yet, no reviews - but it seems to pack a pretty big punch.
If I can count on the 420 model, I'd like to go with it. But after my expereinces with the 350 Zalman, I really, *really* don't want to put myself through any more grief ...
    Thanks for any advice!

BTW, I'm trying to overclock further... As you can see I got a PT880 too ( a different model though but from msi). PT880 haven't been known for overclocking (so far my max is 225 FSB with a similar setup compared to you). It may be my PSU, not sure though, and I can't get a better one (at least for now).
    Heya!
Well, well - we really do have two pretty similar setups! PT880's, P4-2.8's and Kingston ValueRam (though you have 512 chips against my 256s). I *would* be interested in keeping tabs on your setup!
Background: I started out running the system with a Zalman 300. Not only did it keep crashing - it developed a tendency to crash and freeze for several hours after the crash (couldn't even post).  I had a few indications that the mobo was defective and quickly realized that the PSU was underpowered, so I'm having the mobo RMA's while I buy a new PSU.
You seem a little skeptical about the TSP 450. Thing is, it's a near silent piece, which is a priority for this project. (It's pretty expensive, too - ca. 100 Euros.) I'm using my rig as the center piece in a home sound system & cinema setup - it's sitting in our living room and hence must (1) look pretty and (b) not make any noise. Since it is connected to a second keyboard and TFT in our bedroom for normal surfing, mailing, and office chores. it'll also be on a lot! Hence everything has to run silent.
OTOH, I *also* need as much juice as I can get to run advanced video filters over the video projector in the living room, so I'll take as much overclocking as I can get. OTHO #2, I also need to be able to shut said OC on and off to let the system run in silent mode for everything else ...  complicated!
How are you doing your overclocking? Dynamic Overclocking would be a dream come true - but form everything I've heard, it's more of a nightmare. The CoreCenter software may be reasonable avenue, but I've also heard some bad stuff about it's OC-ing capabilities. How are you doing it?
I'll definitely report back once the RMA and PSU stuff is taken care of. If only I knew how long the RMA will take ...

  • FMIS vs LCDS for Real Time Messaging In Flex

A team that I am working with is launching development for a new Flex app. The app will have multiple text chat rooms and video chat too.
Since for video the architecture must include Flash Media Interactive Server (FMIS), the client assumes we will use FMIS for the text messaging.
My question is, for text chat what advantages does LiveCycle Data Services (LCDS) have over FMIS?
Does anyone here have experience with both that they can comment on? Can anyone provide links that might compare the pros and cons of LCDS vs FMIS? Or, dream come true, links providing comparisons of LCDS vs FMIS vs BlazeDS?
Any thoughts or assistance will be appreciated.
    Thanks,

It sounds like you are changing the multiplier sometimes called the dX
on the graph scale. This changes how the graph is labeled, which is
sort of a unit or timescale change, but it doesn't affect the numeric
formatting of the scale. On the same dialog, as well as on the popup
are items for choosing scientific display or choosing digits after the
decimal to display, if that is what you are interested in seeing.
When you say you want to expand the waveform,
    you might also want to
type into the min and max of the scale to view less data in the graph,
thus leaving more detail on what is viewed. This is effectively
zooming. If I still haven't guessed what it is you are trying to
change, please explain your problem again in more detail or post a VI.
As for choosing between a chart and a graph. The major difference is
that a chart shows the new data attached to older historical data. If
you are looking at individually sampled blocks of data, the graph is
what you want. If you want to look at a window on all of the data you
have gathered, a chart may work better. Also keep in mind that graphs
have cursors, charts do not. If your chart's data isn't a waveform,
then the X axis is simply samples and it tells the chart nothing about
    phase.

I only needed the visible layers.  So, I go to "Delete Hidden Layers" right? Ooops it was grayed out, I could not use it -- Ahhh that was because of the locked layers...
    No problem. Ugh wait.
Then I realized -- in the complicated layer structure I had to go through every single folder, open it, look for a locked layer and unlock it (nested folders inside of nested folders etc.). If the layer was not visible and it was locked, I had to first turn it to visible, then unlock it, and then turn it off again.
Aaaarrggghhh I was on a deadline, and I just didn't have time -- but I had to do it anyway.
This was a painful experience... I'm telling designers from now on NEVER SEND ME A PSD WITH LOCKED LAYERS AGAIN
It would have been so much easier if I could just search for "locked layers", and "unlock all."
Does anyone know of a solution? Probably something I should have known years ago, or maybe a feature request?
    Thanks!!!
    :B

This feature is now available in Photoshop CS6. Layers panel has a layer filter option that simplifies the workflow and is designers dream come true! Please see screenshots below:
