An SDHC card for storage?

I know this is not a FCP question but you all have been so helpful in the past so... I'm thinking about storing my video footage from my NX5U onto an SDHC card for archiving. Transferring it from my pro SDHC card, which I shoot on, to an inexpensive SDHC card (using only once for archiving). Any thoughts? How long should an SDHC card hold up vs. a mini-dv tape? Anyone doing this?

Don't have an answer for you, but I'm waiting not so patiently for 100 gig class 10 cards that cost the same as a box of good video tape.  Shoot, log and transfer, put away the card.  Keep a life's work in a shoebox.

  • 32GB SDHC Cards For 5800 XM

Hi there A number of discussions in the past have concentrated on the compatibility of 32GB SDHC cards with the Nokia 5800 XM (and other units), but no answers were given at that time because it was stated that no 32GB cards were available yet. Looking on Amazon, for example, I can now see that there are many 32GB SDHC cards available and one (a class 6 from the Transcend company that has around 200 favourable reviews) is described as "Compatible with all SDHC-labeled host devices (not compatible with standard SD)" and further states that "You can store your entire music or picture collections, video clips, or even complete full-length high quality movies." Does this mean that this card will work in my 5800 XM? Has anybody tried using one of these cards and, if so, what happened? Any advice or feedback will be gratefully received. Many thanks Simon.

  • Suitable SD and SDHC Cards for Capturing Video for FCP?

Not exactly an FCP topic but this is the only forum that comes anywhere near!
Until a few weeks ago I assumed that all SD and SDHC cards were equal with regard to capture speeds.
Now I know better and have discovered that for trouble-free (consumer) video capture you need a Class 6 card to be safe.
I note that SD cards (by definition 2GB or less) have no speed classes.
I have trawled the internet, including the SD Card website but can't find any mention of the reason for this.
Is this because small SD cards are very fast or simply because nobody would conceivably use them for video?
I am asking because I have a small stock of 2GB cards which, if possible, I would like to use for short videos in the near future.

I've not used FCE so can't add anything there. Perhaps Tom W will drop by. He would know.
Regarding the VHS footage. You really ought to think about using a Time Based Corrector (TBC) between your VTR and the digitizing device. They will help deal with mis-timed frames (the 'tearing' effect) as well as chroma shift.
The Canopus ADVC-300 is the least expensive one I've seen and as an added benefit, it does the Analog/Digital conversion for you as well.
    Good luck.

  • Mastering a sdhc card for archive on external hd properly

Just finished watching Shane's video on tapeless workflow and log and capture in FCP. I highly recommend it for those who are interested in this topic.
My question is this. Is there a way to "safely" offload an sdhc card as a master to external hd without purchasing a software such as shotput pro which verifies the transfer among other features.
According to Shane "dragging" file to the new folder location sometimes results in uncopied file content.
Is there a method to safely mastering 16g sd cards without shotput pro?

  • 4GB sandisk micro SDHC card for 6110

I have purchased the 4gb Sandisk card believing it is compatible.
I have copied old (512mb) card memory & 'phone memory to computer, removed old card, installed & formatted new card & restored info.
My problem is that even though the 'phone is showing 3.8gb of memory when I try & load maps of Europe (1.8gb) the message is "not enough memory" & even though the 'phone says "maps loaded" (when referring to the old Australia map) when I try & search an address it says "no search results. Please check your search string" & "streets not digitised" when looking at map outline.
It would seem the new card is not being recognised?
    Help!

When you copied the stuff off the old card did you enable the display of hidden and system files? If not, there's your answer.

  • Does the Palm TX allows for a 4GB SDHC Card?

I recently purchased a Palm TX and bought a 4GB SDHC Card for it but when I insert the card, the Palm TX does not detect it.  Is there a limit as to the storage size of the SD card?  Or, did I purchased the wrong card?
    Thanks,
    JoseMaria
    Post relates to: Palm TX

    1. To access photos, you use the Media application on the TX.  To transfer photos, use the Media option in Palm Desktop.  Look for "Add Photos" on the desktop, import them into it, then sync your TX.  The direct method is to use a Card Reader with your PC and drag and drop the pictures into the DCIM (Digital Camera IMages) folder on the SD card.
(This all assumes you have read the above posts, and are using the correct type and size of SD card, or have purchased the driver mentioned to use SD HC cards!)
    2.  There are 3 programs available to read PDF files on a TX - Adobe for Palm, Documents to Go version 10 or higher, and the freeware PalmPDF.
Adobe is an ancient program that requires you to process any raw PDF file on your PC with the desktop client of Adobe for Palm.  It will not read a raw PDF on your TX.
Docs to Go will read raw PDF files, but requires purchase.   PalmPDF will read raw PDF files from your SD card.  These files have to be DRM-free; i.e. not an ebook that is copywritten.
To access files on a card, open the corresponding program on the TX first, then direct the program to look on the card.

  • E65 and 4gb Micro SDHC card

    Hi out there
I bought a 4gb Kingston Micro SDHC card for my new E65, but the phone don't regognize the card.
Can the card be used with the phone, and if so - how.
My phone has softwareversion 3.0633.69.00 from 06-02-08
    Thanks in advance

The card cannot be used with the E65.
The E65 only supports the micro SD standard so it's maximum is 2GB. 4GB cards are the newer SDHC standard and cannot be made to work on older hardware.

  • Writing DVD content to thumbdrive or SDHC card?

I would like to place DVD content on a thumbdrive or SDHC card for viewing via WD Media Player Live or similar device. These devices can be of different size than typical DVD discs, and they are written differently. When I try to write a iDVD as a disc image, to copy onto a SDHC, I get an error because of project size even though it would fit on a SDHC card. Then if I copied the disc image to the card, I'm not sure that I would get something that would act like the DVD.
I don't really understand DVD formats and processing versus HD formats and processing in a media player. Apparently media players can download movies, store on a HD, and play for viewing on a TV. And DVD players can "download" movies from a DVD disc, and play for viewing on a TV. Perhaps I don't need to use a DVD format, but then I would seem to loose the menus and such.
Perhaps someone can help me understand the problem more fully or provide a solution. Thanks.
    Derek

You may wish direct your disc image inquiry to WDigital - the description below implies it can use the VOB files from a DVD, but perhaps it cannot look inside a disc image to find those files.
    "The Western Digital WD TV Live is a media player that supports AVI (Xvid, AVC, MPEG1/2/4), MPG/MPEG, VOB, MKV (h.264, x.264, AVC, MPEG1/2/4, VC-1), TS/TP/M2T (MPEG1/2/4, AVC, VC-1), MP4/MOV (MPEG4, h.264), M2TS and WMV9 video format..."
    (from: http://www.testfreaks.com/media-centers/western-digital-tv-live-hd-media-player/)
You can also do some testing, eg, open the disc image and try copying just a VOB file to your thumbdrive, and see if that works. It looks like you can also just go directly from iMovie to a format (like H.264) that TV Live understands.

  • SDHC card exchanges

    Hi
I recently bought asus transformer tf300 online on thanksgiving day. Along with that I bought 16 SDHC card for it
A day back received both of them and realized I was stupid to order SDHC card as it is not supported. I want to exchange it with microSD card. So is it possible to exchange and do i need.to pay extra as it ws bought on sale.price and as unfortunately I have opened the pack.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi achalrshah,
That's exactly right. You would get the full price of your initial purchase to put towards the new purchase. The difference in your example would be $20.

  • Optimum allocation size Toshiba Class 2 16GB Micro SDHC card

    Hi --
Be gentle, please. I am newly registered here and am not sure that I found the correct forum to post this question.
I have a new Toshiba Class 2 16GB Micro SDHC card, just received today. Before I used it and while it is still under warranty, I wanted to test it for genuineness with the H2TestW program, which requires that I format it first.
Certainly I want to retain the default fat32 format but what file allocation size is best?
The card will mostly be used in my Sandisk Clip Plus to play MP3 files. A quick glance shows most of those files to be 5,500-10,000 KBs.
    Suggestions, please?
    Thanks.

    Hi buddy,
I use different SD and SDHC cards for years now and I always use the default settings for allocation size. I never had any problems with that.

  • Selecting sd card as storage

Why dont we have this? They have been working on this for two years.

Can confirm that after clearing  cache, uninstalling, I also had to do this for the app to use my SD-Card for storage, it only  put some cache files there before. From: [COMPLETE GUIDE] How to fix most Android issues
    - If using an external SD card to store your cache (Offline Playlists) on Android 4.4.2+ then make sure when installing the app you have more free space on the SD card than in your phone memory. Another tip is to set the download quality to 'Extreme' as this sometimes helps ensure the right location is being targeted for the cache
