An't open pdfs; can't save pdfs on my MAC Computer

I have problems with my Adobe Reader on my MAC computer…Mac OS X version 10.10.1. , I always get a window saying "Adobe Reader could not open "_______" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded."
I couldn't open any pdf file on my desktop.  I also couldn't save a paper as a pdf form .

Hi moti-b,
In the screenshot you have attached, on the bottom right hand side, 'When visiting other websites : ' check 'Allow Always' for Adobe Reader. Close Safari app. Open any pdf in Safari again. Check for HUD tab at the bottom of the pdf to ensure that pdf is rendered in Safari via Reader only.
For Reader the HUD looks like :
If pdf is rendered using Preview in Safari,HUD
After chosing 'Always Allow' option,  the pdf should open via Reader and the Save button should work fine as well.

Ruchika

  • Cannot open PDF files on Mac

    I cannot open PDFs on my Mac but can open the same files on my PC.  When I create a PDF from the computer and when I send it to our office printer as a scan-PDF, I cannot open either.  Have downloaded Adobe Acrobat, etc., and still waiting for a response from them.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Don't use Acrobat, use Preview. Preview is already pre-installed on your computer. If you cannot locate it, type Command-Shift (opens Spotlight) and type in Preview and hit return.

  • I cannot open pdf in my new computer in the internet. Help please

    I cannot open pdf in my new computer in the internet. I have Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 11. All it does is open up a blank page with a white x in a black square. How can I fix this?

    Hi Pat..When I tried to run Fix It the computer pops up a screen that says this trouble shooter does not apply to this computer .The article refers to Internet Explorer 10 and Im running Internet Explorer 11. I did try to see it it would fix my problem but the registry entry does not exist on my computer (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\TabProcGrowth) I can get as far as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer but I dont have the option to choose Main. I only have the option to choose New Window which does not open up when clicked. Internet Explorer also has no value. Is there anything else I should try?

  • Can't open pdfs; can't save pdfs on my MAC Computer

    Hi   I have problems with my Adobe Reader on my MAC computer…Mac OSX version 10.7.5.  It began when I did update my current Adobe Reader.  Eversince, I always get a window saying "Adobe Reader could not open "_______" because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and was not correctly decoded."
    I couldn't open any pdf file on my desktop.  I also couldn't save a paper as a pdf form but it looks like a notebook file on my desktop…not the normal red pdf file.
    I am not sure how I can correct the problem.

    Hi jcs174,
    If you just want to save a pdf opened in Safari to your machine use the save as option from within the Reader window. Just click on any of the buttons highlighted in below screenshots to Save a pdf at any location on your machine.
    or
    To summarize the issue, if you had opened an Internet PDF in a browser plug-in, you must use the save feature in the plug-in, not the Safari File > PDF Export, or File > Save As...
    Please let us know if this solution works for you and you are able to save and view PDFs files locally.

  • How to open PDF ebooks on a computer

    I bought $350 worth of ebooks from ebooks.com so I could read them on my bebook (mybebook.com) and the files don't open on my bebook, so I tried to open them on my computer so I could convert them to another format, but my computer can't open the files. This is what happens:
    1) A window comes up that says: This document can't be opened because it's ownership hasn't been established on this computer. But I bought the books on this computer! There are two choices that I can click: 1) I own it and copied it to this computer or restored it from a backup and 2) Someone else gave it to me and I would like to own it. I click number one and then click on a button that says "establish ownership".
    2) Then another window comes up that says: You will now be taken to the adobe DRM activator website where you will get instructions on how to reactivate your Acrobat or Adobe reader to allow for sharing and restoring of documents. You must be connected to the internet for this. If not, cancel and try again later.
    3) So I click OK and am taken to an Adobe page that says:
    Here's the problem and how to solve it:
    You have tried to open an Digital Edition that was downloaded to another computer. You can open such a document on two computers only when you have activated Adobe Reader or Acrobat on both computers using the same Microsoft .NET Passport or Adobe ID.
    Problem: This computer and the computer to which the document was downloaded were activated using different .NET Passports or Adobe IDs.
    Solution: Return to the retailer, library, or other location where you acquired the document and obtain permission to open it on this computer.
    I wrote ebooks.com and told them what was going on also, but I don't know if they will be able to help me because I downloaded the books to this computer.
    Does anyone know what I can do to be able to open these PDF files?
    Thanks,
    Kyle Pounds

    What is your operating system?  Reader version?
    Can you open such a PDF in a text editor, then copy and paste the first few lines here in the forum?

  • UNABLE TO OPEN PDF ON MY MAC!

    Can someone help me with this error message below?  It is preventing me from opening PDF files on my MAC but not on my PC.  Thank you!
    "Adobe Reader could not open 'AIS_Research_Compression.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

    The message says:
    Please wait
    If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of your document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document.
    Then it goes on to suggest an Reader upgrade, which I already did.

  • Open pdf-file on mac OS 10.4

    Does anybody know how to open a pdf-file on mac OS 10.4 (tiger, jvm 1.5). I already saw related links but couldn't find the clue.

    JDIC seems to me a little complicated, just to open a pdf file, Why do you think this? Sure it does more than just what you want, but so what, that does not make you code any more complicated. It would just be a call to org.jdesktop.jdic.desktop.Desktop.open
    and Desktop.open is a methos in jvm 1.6. The Desktop.open in 1.6 is taken from JDIC.
    Isn't there a simple way like in windows Why is that simple in your eyes? You would have to create a version for every supported OS, using existing code (like say JDIC) you can let someone else do the complex part.

  • Adobe won't open pdfs on my mac anymore

    adobe is messed up on my mac all of a sudden it says i need to install it and accept end user ag

    Download the offline installer from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    Quit your browser (Cmd+Q - don't just close the window)
    Download AppZapper (it's a free trial): http://www.appzapper.com/
    Install and open AppZapper. Drag the Reader app from your Applications folder to AppZapper and "Zap" it (and all accompanying files) to the trash.
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
    Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin file if it's there
    Trash the AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin file if it's there
    Empty the trash.
    Mount the DMG and run the installer to reinstall Reader
    Reboot
    Go to your Applications folder and open Reader
    Accept the license agreement
    You can now open PDFs in your browser

    Recently my computer won't allow me to open PDFs. After looking into the situation, I'm being informed that my PDF previewer is not responding.

  • Cannot open PDFs on my Mac using Safari

    I downloaded Adobe Reader for my Mac and still cannot read PDF docs on Safari.  I continue to receive this message that I need to sign the licensing agreement and relaunch my browser.  I read that by installing Adobe Reader you are automatically signing the agreement.  I've also relaunched my browser and I still cannot open PDFs.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated?

    No, installing does not accept the licensing agreement.
    You need to launch Adobe Reader. Not launch the browser.
    Adobe Reader is launched from Applications like other Mac apps.

    I converted from a PC to a Mac Mini.  I have my PC documents backed up on a DVD disk.  I have an external DVD drive connected to the Mac Mini.  I want to open these documents up from the DVD storage and save them to the Mac, BUT....when I put the DVD disk in the Mac is NOT reading it!

    Hi Joe,
    Thanks for your quick response.  I should add....it worked before.  When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac.  Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed.  I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD.  SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac,especially where I could open it previously.  I do not remember changing any settings since then.
    When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc.  The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents.  I just want to be able to see them in the finder.  I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents.  Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
    Any additional advice?
    Thank you!

  • Open a JavaScript in Google Chrome on a Mac computer

    My question is simple:
    How can I open a JavaScript file with Google Chrome on a Mac computer using Java?
    This is my code so far:
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Please browse to Google Chrome!");
                                JFileChooser fc = new JFileChooser();
                                FileFilter ff = new FileFilter() {
                                    public boolean accept(File pathname) {
                                        if (pathname.isDirectory()) {
                                            return true;
                                        if (pathname.getName().toLowerCase().equals("chrome.exe") || pathname.getName().toLowerCase().equals("chrome.app")) {
                                            return true;
                                        return false;
                                    @Override
                                    public String getDescription() {
                                        return "chrome.exe; chrome.app";
                                fc.setFileFilter(ff);
                                int returnVal = fc.showOpenDialog(null);
                                if (returnVal == JFileChooser.APPROVE_OPTION) {
                                    try {
                                        Runtime.getRuntime().exec("open " + fc.getSelectedFile().toURI() + " " + f.toURI());
                                    } catch (Exception exxxx) {
                                        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Unknown exception occurred! It's: " + exxxx.toString() + "\n" + "fc.getSelectedFile().toURI()");
                                }I have little to no Mac knowledge, but this code opens Google Chrome, Safari and Finder at once...

    Okay I have figured the exact mac command needed to open a file with a custom program, however, if I use the exact same command in Java, nothing happens, Chrome doesn't open, no errors, nothing...
    I am using this code:
    try {
         Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("open -a \"Google Chrome\" /Users/noskill/Desktop/1.0.user.js");
    } catch (Exception p) {
         System.out.println("Even this doesn't happen!");
    }Which is weird because whenever I use the exact same string in Mac Terminal, Google Chrome starts and loads it...
    So my question now is: How to run a Mac command in Java?
