Tape drive and pci-x card with Solaris 10 on VMWare environment
I have a Sun X4170 server (x84_64) running VMWare ESXi 4.0. On it I have two VM guests- my production file server running Solaris 10 U7 and a test file server running Solaris 10 U9.
The X4170 has a PCI-X LSI Logic dual external U320 parallel scsi card. I have a tape drive + auto loader cabled to the X4170. It is a Quantum branded autoloader but I believe the tape drive itself is HP. The autoloader+tape drive share a single SCSI ID (6) but have separate LUNS.
I have two choices for making this system accessible to the OS:
- Virtualize the tape drive and loader individually.
- In VMWare, enable the scsi card as a pass through device. The SCSI card is then added as PCI device to the virtual machine (actually two devices since it is a dual scsi card.)
I had virtualized a single-drive tape drives with Vmware in the past.
However, when I tried I virtualize tape drive and loader, Solaris complained about the scsi id’s being invalid. I don’t think it likes two devices with a single scsi ID. Also, I think I need the backup software to see the REAL tape drive and autoloader (for inventory, changing tapes etc)

Any ideas? Maybe a need to update the MPT driver or is that dangerous?
ThanksActually, updating the kernel patches (and enabling hot plug service) did solve the problem. At some point during between testing the system before and after patching, the tape drive got turned off. Since the system patching was being done remotely it was not immediately obvious that the tape drive was off.

Joining multiple views from different HANA systems
Hi
We are on Business suite on HANA environment ;that means ECC , CRM , BW on different HANA DB / instances.
For reporting ; i would like to combine calculation / analytical views from these different systems.
Any thoughts on approach?
Thanks in advanceIf you are looking at something like HANA Live from multiple systems then check following
How to Realize Cross System Reporting Using SAP HANA Live Content
But if you are really looking at multiple HANA systems and remote connectivity options then may be links below helps out. There are bunch of articles on Cross-System reporting/SDA so may be you can do some research.
I have not tried this so can't give real hands-on feedback

How to connect to the multiple system in the same environment
Hi Everyone ,
We are integrating SAP EP and BOE . We are facing SSO problem ,as there are 2 system in same environment .
Suppose we have XX1 and XX2 as BW backend system . IF Default entry on server is kept blank then we get :
"u2022 Account information not recognized: No SAP system was passed as part of the user name and there was no default system defined. User credential validation cannot continue. " error.
Whereas if we give XX1 as defaut system on server , then SSO is not happening we as are XX2 users .
Anyone has any idea on how to connect to multiple backend system in the same environment .

As you can see in the help link below:
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/45/2f873d1ca96d7be10000000a114a6b/content.htm
There is a trust system and the trusted systems. One system can trust in many other systems. You have just to configure it exporting and importing the certificates as explained in the link. -
Ok, I finally have my system working:
XP 2400+
MSI K7N2 Delta
512Mb PC3200 OCZ Performance
MSI FX5600-VTDR128
HD 80Gb Maxtor Diamond Plus 9
From my point of view, it's a beautifull system And it let's me upgrade my processor from time to time
Now, I want to test my system, to see how much it can give, what soft do you recommend?, and where can I get it?
Best Regards,
FernandoFernando,
Glad to here your up and running, nice rig! Here is a link for you where you can find some benchmarking programs. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?id=4 Enjoy your machine. )

Multiple HANA systems connection for Smart Business Fiori Apps
Hi Experts,
I could configure and run standard Fiori apps through launchpad and able to configure all type of Fiori apps through web dispature and single HANA system1 [retail]
As per the recommendation from SAP, we have separate HANA system2 for finance.
Now here is the tricky part.
I have added HANA system2 in web dispature. Also I have the trusted connection in my front end gateway server for transactional apps.
Transactional apps from HANA system2 db is working fine. Now, I would like to configure Finance related Analytical apps from HANA system2 views. For this I am not able to get KPI IDs for evaluation and drill-down configuration.
The path for Smart Business KPI modeler in both the HANA systems are same. Is this causing issue to bring KPI IDs and HANA views into modeler?
How to get both views in single KPI modeler tool to configure the KPI tiles?
Please let me know how to proceed?
Thanks!

How to copy the bookmarks which are created in SAP BW 7.3 to New SAP BW on Hana System?
Hi,
We have requirement of moving the Bookmarks from SAP BW 7.3 system to New SAP BW on Hana System.
Please let me know if it is possible? If possible how to do it.?
Thanks,
tmsHi TMS,
Are you talking about Web template bookmark or QueryDesigner bookmark?
If yes then in both the cases its is stored in your client machine as a browser favourite. This has nothing to do with HANA or BW system. So you can transfer browser favourite file from one system to other.
If you are talking about in anyother context please be precise and more elaborate .
Thanks & Regards

Hi HANA Gurus,
Would like to know in a normal system replication based HA for SoH, without memory preload, after an automatic failover to the second node,in how much time HANA becomes available for the SoH(ERP) users to continue transaction. Consider an ideal scenario with 512 GB appliance , with allocation limit of 490GB approx., considering normal 90% of first 64gb and 97% of every further 64GB memory on the single host. Also consider a used memory of say 128 GB(indicating database size and considering no custom configuration for specific tables preload .Consider the save point is every five minutes as default and committed transactions are written to the log. Host is replicated to second node using HANA System replication and with HANA automatic failover option. This means on first node failure the HANA system will be restarted on second node and data will be loaded to the memory based on the last state in the other node. As I understand the save points are loaded, logs are applied and database become available for users, the lazy load continues etc. Kindly answer me if anyone knows by experience how much time it takes from the failure detection to next state of the system becoming available for user to start updating for example a Sales Order. Also like to know more about this start-up process to understand it better(for example the last save points are done by saving the changed pages, so time taken to load the last savepoint pages to memory, then applying transactions from last save point (last 4 minutes for example before failing over etc). The purpose is to understand whether the failover time from Primary to standby takes similar time like a traditional db (for example db2) or more due to memory load time in HANA. At the same time I am aware of other options available to reduce the RTO by using memory preload, cluster solutions from vendors , OS like SUSE etc.
Thanks in advance.
Rajesh VikramanHi John
My question is specific to a system failover which is not replication with memory preload, where you require cluster software to do the failover. My question is in case of a automatic failover configuration using a standby node . For example gpfs / hana automatic failover option, where standby note starts hana, and loads last savepoint , applies logs and then start lazy loading.

How to get Maintenance_HDB certificate for BW Powered With HANA system.
Hi,
We need to install Maintenance_HDB license in order to install BI -CONT addon component on our newly installed BW Powered With HANA system. But we could not get Maintenance_HDB license, as we are able to get only Maintenance_ADA License for our system.
The main clarification required here is while adding a new entry in SMP (Service Market Place) of BW Powered By HANA system, what is the product that needs to selected in order to get HANA as database. We did selected Netweaver 7.3 for which we were actually made to select MAXDB as database but not HANA.
Thanks & Regards,
Pavan IndrakumarWell even though it says your customer number is not authorized for HANA DATABASE license for BW, we can add HANA as database product under Netweaver 7.3 and proceed requesting for Maintenace License.
Not sure about the exact criteria behind the license provisioning. -
No suitable SAP HANA system configured in Administration Console
Hi All,
I have been trying to attach my HANA system to BW on HANA system to create CompositeProviers and such. However, even if my HANA system is logged on and running fine in HANA Studio, when I try to attach it to BW system I am getting "No suitable SAP HANA system configured in Administration Console" error message.
I am also following the link below to attach a system.
http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a0c5d872-fb76-3110-f288-bf714be4a406?QuickLink=index&…
Has anyone have idea why I am getting this error? Or what else sould I do no to receive this error?
Thanks a lot.Hi Zahid Yener,
I have seen the following in an different forum..
Could you please have a look into this:
Before you assign HANA system to a BW project you have to add the HANA system of the BW system to Systems View of the SAP HANA Administration Console perspective:
*) Change the perspective to the SAP HANA Administration Console
*) Right-Click in the Systems view and execute the context menu function Add System...
*) Add the HANA system of the BW system (you can find the host and instance information of the HANA DB on the status window in the BW system)
When the HANA system is now added you can then go back to the BW Modeling perspective and attach the HANA system to the BW project. Maybe you are not logged in to the SAP HANA system after you have attached it. Then please execute F5 (refresh).

Adaptive RFC use in test/dev systems
The Adaptive RFC model requires a msg.server for metadata. Does that mean it can't be used in test/dev system where there is only an app server? I find that hard to believe.
Secondly, during the creation of JCO Connections in the webdnypro content admin tool, the drop down boxes for message server and application server are empty. where is this data defined? saplogon.ini + ...drivers/etc/services files were copied to the WAS/SLD host machine.
Furthermore, is the Adaptive RFC the best way to use SAP data (called from function modules) in a webdynpro?
Thanks,
faB.
Message was edited by: faBHi,
1.Even in development system you have centrall services, and as part of this you have a message server. So you can use Adaptive RFC model in development sysetems without any problem.
2.Regarding you second question: you should define you application system in SLD before using JCO destinations. Just search for SLD in this forum and you will fine the how to configure it.
3. AFAIK, Adaptive RDC model <b>is</b> the best way (it's better to say the <b>proper</b> way) to use your SAP application system in the WAS context.
Hope it helps.
Victor.

MBA standby 12 hours with 7% power consumption?
My newly purchased MBA seems not able to be power-efficient as advertised. I put it to sleep for 12 hours on battery, and it drains up 7% power. Sleep for 30 days without power adaptor? I doubt so. How much power does your MBA take when in sleep mode
