"An unknow error occurred (-50)" when downloading.

iTunes 10.7.0.21 on Windows 7 Service Pack 1.
Recently purchased my first .mp3 from the Store. Received a receipt so payment should be ok.
Still, every time I "Check for Available Downloads..." from the Store menu, I get this error message stating "There was a problem downloading... An unknown error occurred (-50).
My Internet connection is fine; Google, www.apple.com/itunes/ are accessible.
Windows Firewall is not blocking connections; I have the same problem with the firewall turned off.
No other firewall software is installed.

Perhaps try the "Error -50," "-5000," "8003," "8008," or "-42023" section in the Specific Conditions and Alert Messages: (Mac OS X / Windows) section of the following document:

I am Trying to restore my ipod 4th gen 5.1.1 but when i try to restore it in itunes "The ipod couldnt be restored, an unknow error occured (3194). what should i do?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.
Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com
Error 1004, 1013, 1638, 3194: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:
Install the latest version of iTunes.
Check security software. Ensure that communication to gs.apple.com is allowed. Follow this article for assistance with security software. iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.
Check the hosts file. The restore will fail if there is an active entry to redirect gs.apple.com. Follow iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting to edit the hosts file or revert to a default hosts file. See section "Blocked by configuration: (Mac OS X/Windows) > Rebuild network information".
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.

  • Getting "An unknown error occurred (-50)" when trying to download my purchases

For the past few weeks I've been getting "An unknown error occurred (-50)" when trying to download my purchases. I've tried downloading from past purchases and by clicking on the cloud symbol on the files in iTunes itself. Same every time.
I'm using iTunes version 11.3.1(2) running OS 10.9.4.

    Hi lachima,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that it is frustrating when you are getting an error when trying to download previously purchased content. There are some great troubleshooting steps for this specific situation though. I recommend reading over and using the steps provided in the attached article to help you get this resolved.

Which operating system are you running on?
We might be able to help with Photoshop Elements but lightroom has it's own forum
    Photoshop Lightroom
It would be useful if you could give us any error message you are seeing.
Are you trying to download Photoshop Elements from here

For Lightroom, you need to say if you have bought the standalone version or the cloud version.

  • Frequent error message (8248) when downloading songs. Please help!

I am hoping to resolve an issue I keep encountering when trying to download songs from itunes. I frequently receive a message stating "there was a problem downloading the song. An unknow error occured (8248)" However, the song appears in my purchased history and of course I get charged. This has happened often, however occasionally a song will download properly, and we have been able to download applications (games) with no problem. Please help! Thank you.

  • ITunes 7 fails to start - unknow error occurred -50 - how to fix it?

I have recenly upgraded iTunes on MacMini (PowerPC). Every time I try to start, it asks me to agree on terms and than shows the error "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknow error occurred (-50)." I have reinstalled the app 2 times already. I have verified permissions via Disk Utility. It only works well with other user (also admin). Any ideas? I have seem some similar posts here but no solution. Please help. Thanks in advance.
    MacMini (powerPC)   Windows XP Pro

I'm having the same problem. It seems to happen as iTunes is trying to parse my music files after it starts. Gapless playback was someone's thought, but I turned that off.
That was when I could still catch it before the crash. NOw it starts up and crashes instantly.
This started happening when I had to upgrade to 7.0.2 from 6.?.? because I bought a shuffle.

    try this...
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes.

  • "Internal Error Occurred" appears when .pdf is opened from Outlook 2010 email

"Internal Error Occurred" appears when .pdf is opened from Outlook 2010 email
I am absolutely pulling out my hair over this one!!
    PC/Win 7 64bit/Adobe XI/Office 2010
I have tried Uninstalling and re-installing
I have tried using an adobe software removal tool
I have tried modifying the security settings in reader
I've tried running repair on MS Office
If you open the .pdf from an email directly, it opens Reader with the error "Internal Error Occurred"
If you drag and drop the .pdf onto the desktop, and then open it, it opens.
If you open Adobe Reader FIRST, then open the .pdf from the email, it opens fine.
ONLY when you open a .pdf from an email with Adobe Reader closed (so Outlook is asking AR to open first, and then present the .pdf) is it behaving this way.
Hypothesis: Outlook 2010 does not like to open Adobe Reader.
SO....tell me all of you brilliant geniuses? How do I solve this puzzle and become an end user's hero?
PS: WorkAround - the only work around I have found for this at present, is that the user first opens up Adobe Reader and lets it run in the background. I pinned the shortcut to his task bar to remind him.

I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Reader DC and installed Adobe Reader XI and everything works fine. This will be our current fix until a solution is found for the above error

The chat link can be elusive as can the people that support it over the weekend.  It does work, at least for most people, but not all.
