An unknown error has occurred (-108). Adobe illustrator will now quit.

HEllo
I have an Adobe CS3 Web Premium. After installing and running the illustrator cs3 this error occurred:
An unknown error has occurred (-108). Adobe illustrator will now quit.
My friend has this problem too. I'd appreciate if you can tell me what is the reason for this problem and how can I correct it and how can I prevent it in the future. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely
Meissam Rasouli

Meissam, you are welcome.
Some of the issues are caused by corrupted files.
The usual suspect is the aiprefs file, which held almost all preferences up to 10; since CS(1), some preferences have been moved to other files in the same folder, so in many cases the advice is to move the folder to the Desktop (deleting does not always work).
In other cases, corrupted fonts are the issue. It has been noted in some cases that the -108 has occurred during loading of font, but moving fonts out of the Fonts folder has not helped.
Is the name TypeSupport, in one word?
I believe the files will be rebuilt with the default values as is the case with the aiprefs and other key files. I believe you will find that it has a new content after your starting Illy.
And it should not affect other applications. It may be used for more Adobe applications without causing trouble, but Illy is known to be more particular than most when it comes to fonts; probably because fonts are both text and curves/art, which is why we call it Type.

  • Illustrator won't open "An unknown error has occurred (-108)"

I installed Yosemite a couple of weeks ago and it took several days to finally get things working again. All was well for a while, but now Safari tries to reload pages continually, Mail crashes when I check new mails (it just disappears without warning), Illustrator gives me "unknown error (-108)", InDesign just disappears when I try to start it, Word won't open at all, preview doesn't work in the finder. This is a major inconvenience and makes my Mac pretty much useless.

    Hi Rutherford,
There could be a issue with the Operating system or the user account.
Try creating new Admin user account on the Mac. If the problem happens on new user as well, may be you can contact Apple support and get some advise.

  • "An unknown error has occurred (-120)"

I have been having a lot of trouble with the "An unknown error has occurred" thing for three days now, and I'm freaking out. First, it started with the (-50) error message. I found that topic and the answer, and I attempted it, but then I tried to open iTunes and a message popped up that said there were missing files and it couldn't open. I did as the instructions told me for THAT error as well, but then I couldn't restore my iPod!
I asked my dad about it (I'm only a teenager) and he told me that I should uninstall iTunes THEN reinstall it - which I did only today, then I tried syncing my iPod Shuffle. When that didn't work and I got the (-50) message again, I tried restoring my iPod, and it didn't work.
Being very frustrated, I decided to try and sync my iPod once more and went downstairs to wait for the result. I came back up about an hour later and there were 170 errors - all of them about my songs!
It said my iPod couldn't sync, and all of the other errors said: "'[Song Title]' could not be synced. An unknown error has occured. (-120)"
What does the (-120) mean? Because I can't get any of my songs back on my iPod anymore! I don't know what to do and can't LIVE without my Shuffle! HELP?

Try this user tip > https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4133
If nothing there helped, disable anti virus software and turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security (or Security & Privacy)
    Then try the App Store.

    Hi
I have just upgraded to a new iMac late 2013. After running a migration from my old mac to the new. I now have the following error: "Unknown error has occurred" when trying to save an illustrator CS5 doc.
How do you  fix 'An Unknown error has occurred" when trying to save?
    All help, most welcome.

    Hi
Thanks for your response. I have reinstalled and used the adobe clean software to remove all adobe software first. still not working. Can you explain in more detail "fix the permissions on your User: Library folders"? I have verified disc perms in Disc Utility.
    Thanks

  • Illustrator CS6 - An unknown error has occured

When saving a file in illustrator CS6 the error comes up as "An unknown error has occured".
I can not save my files at all, export them as any other filetype or print them to PDF.
I have figured out it is any element with transparancy causing the issue... if I delete or flatten the items, I can save..
Any Ideas hoe to rectify this as it is stuffing everything up for me...

I've been having the same problem when I save a ANY of my AI file as PDF with Printer Marls (Trim Marks etc). No transparencies, no effects, just pure type (tried outlined and live) and flat shapes. Not sure what to do, I tried to trash the settings folder, reboot computer and nothing

  • 'an unknown error has occurred' CS3

I keep getting the error message, 'an unknown error has occurred' trying to save files in illustrator cs3. I've read some forums and they seem to say that Zune has something to do with the error message. I do not have Zune installed on my computer. Does anyone know what causes this error message and how to fix it?
    Please help!!

That is quite a general error, more than Zune can cause that. Do you get a -108. What platform are you on?
    WIN
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/403/kb403151.html#main_solution2
    1. Open the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe folder and look for the folder TypeSupport;
    2. Create a namesake folder on your Desktop;
    3. Move all the contents to the namesake folder.
    MAC
    Flush Cache
    delete users\(username)\library\preferences\com.adobe.mediabrowser.plist

  • An unknown error has occured while saving to .ai file

After reading through tons of topics about "An unknown error has occured" I still can't find any suitable sollution for the problem.
    So, my observations are:
I have both 32- and 64-bit versions of Adobe Illustrator CS6
The error occurs only with the 64-bit version,
The error occurs only when saving files containing text objects.
Unchecking "Create PDF Compatible File" doesn't solve the problem.
Reseting Illustrator's settings also doesn't help.
If somebody has solved this problem, please help. It's pretty much time taking switching between the two versions and I also have files pretty big enough that require opening in the 64 bit version.
    Best regards,
    Yani.

I have the same error, I'm working with Illustrator CC on my MacBook Pro Retina 15" (late 2012 model) with OS X Yosemite, my video card is NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M.
Earlier I haven't any problem with illustrator, but now I have. Help ma please.

  • "An unknown error has occurred" AI 18.1.1

I downloaded and installed the latest Illustrator CC 2014 (18.1.1) last Saturday. I'm using the updated software today for the first time and, in the two documents I've worked so far, I already lost some work. I'm getting the "An unknown error has occurred" message.  The files have a simple b&w drawing and one or two lines of text. I'm moving text blocks and/or resizing fonts using fonts I've used before and files that were working well last week. I cannot rescue the updated documents: trying to save to an eps gives me a "Can't save the illustration. A necessary resource is missing. ID: -192" message. Trying to save to a pdf give the "An unknown error" as well.  OS 10.7.5  I'll appreciate any insights.  ETA - I've been testing the issue: I open a page, type one character in Any Font and the "unknown error" appears - I cannot use this version of ai until I resolve this issue, can I revert to the previous CC version?

    YThom,
This should help to revert to the earlier CC version:

  • Unknown Error Has Occurred

I used my illustrator CS4 just find for who knows how long, at least a year, and then yesterday I went to create a new file upon opening the program and when I clicked new website or even new print document I get an error message that an "Unknown Error Has Occurred" I tried to open an Ai document and I got the same thing. I've looked online and I see this message most of the time with a specific file, but I didn't even have a file. I was just trying to start new. What could have happened? And, what can I do to get my Illustrator working again?

    Erika,
For rarer cases where the advice given by Monika fails to bring relief, you may
look through and try out the relevant among the Other options;, maybe with special attention to the font cashes (item 11).
Even more seriously, you may: uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

    Hi Monika.

  • Unknown Error has occured on CS4

My team member run the AI CS4 on her XP SP3 machine, and all of a sudden, she kept getting the "Unknown Error Has Occured" error message even by just opening a new or any existing AI files.
    What could possibly caused this?
    Pls help.
Tried disabling acrotray and there's now Zune btw.

    No, he meant do this
    1. Quit Illustrator.
    2. Rename the AIPrefs file (for example, to AIPrefs.old) in the Users/(user)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings folder.
    3. Start Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new preferences file.
Or try logging into a new user and if that does not work try creating a new user and log in there an see if all goes well
But the settings folder could just as well need the permissions repaired

  • CS3: "an unknown error has occurred"

There is “an unknown error has  occurred” dialogue that pops up when I try to save, this time when I enter text.   I also had an issue when I copied the text as a smart object into photoshop and  then editing that smart object in illustrator that says that the items are  created in an older version of illustrator (even though they were not) and  needing updating.
I have reinstalled, removed the  adobe illustrator cs3 setting folder, cleared the registry.  This is on a  windows vista machine.
Any thoughts or advice?  System Restore only goes back a few days, and this issue started 2 weeks ago or so.

This might be a permissions problem s you might have to reset the permission on the directories folder s and files which Illustrator is following to get to you files or to the place you want to save the files to. It may be related to any fonts you recently install or perhaps used for the first time. it may have something to do with you Font Cache files which might have to be deleted.
It could be a corrupt font.

  • CS3 when saving message "an unknown error has occurred"

In illustrator CS3 when trying to saving the message "an unknown error has occurred" pops up. The only way I can get a file to save is saving it as an template. I've tried reinstalling and removing the preferences. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    AArrrrrrrggghhh!!!!!!! phew.. sorry.
I have the same problem and I have come to a schtuck. The problem began out of the blue in my illustrator CS2 which was working fine before, so I upgraded to CS3, and the problem is still there, I have tried removing the preferences, I have uninstalled all versions of illustrator including preferences from the PC and reinstalled only CS3 brand new straight out the box. Still won't save.
    Any ideas anyone?
I think it's ridiculous that we have paid £2000 for the New CS3 master collection and it doesn't work properly! how can adobe release software with a problem so big as this and charge so much for it? My boss rang adobe yesterday to ask for help and after a long while of not getting anywhere the adobe guy he was speaking to said 'I've had enough of you' and hung up the phone!!! What is that all about? we are legitimate paying customers of adobe for the last 10 years or more! I have now missed a big deadline because of this and am in a mind to asassinate someone at adobe! hahahaha.
Sorry to rant guys but come on adobe! sort it out!
    Anyway,
If ANYONE has an aswer or an idea of how I can fix this problem and get back to work I would be very grateful.
some info about my project incase it helps:
I am using CS3 master collection freshly installed on a Dell precision 650 PC with intel xeron processor, XP operating system, 37.6GB free hard disk space, 2 Megs of ram, Nivida Graphics card.
My Illustrator project is a 0.5x2 metre banner made up of a large number of collaged Hi resolution JPEG photographic images. The only composition I have used is Opacity masks with feather effects.
There is no text in the project and no other elements apart from the masked and feathered images.
the original images are stored on an external hard drive with loads of free space on it.
Any ideas I would be very grateful, as I said I have already tried deleting the illustrator settings and preferences files, and re-installed CS3 to no avail.
    Thanks! Beth
