An Unwanted Feature of Mail

I have a problem with Mail that I never had with Snow Leopard.
In OS 10.7.2 I find that when I'm typing in Mail, these annoying AutoComplete boxes
keep popping up as I type. I have a pretty decent command of the English language
and I don't need these idiotic hints as to what I might be trying to say. I looked through
Mail's Preferences to try to see if I could turn this feature off but I couldn't find the
checkbox for this that I could then uncheck. Could someone tell me where I would find it?

OK - bear with me and here is the latest on my problems. Just to make sure that we are all on the same page, here are my current settings from your previous notes of advice -
Mail
Preferences
Compose
Check Spelling
Never
Systems Preferences
Language and Text
Text
Correct Spelling - unchecked
You would think that with both these commands, the phenomenon that I now show
wouldn't happen but - it still does and these inane little boxes popping up constantly as I'm typing are driving me nuts. I don't need it nor want it and how is it that with these settings, I'm still getting them?

Features of "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" under Settings menue are disabled

I'm having major issues with the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" section of settings (in iPhone 5S). I have synchronized my phone with MS office Outlook 2013 for mail, calendar and contacts, it was running well. but problem arise when wanted to erase a account from iphone, I see all features in "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" is disabled and no features of mail accounts can be changed. I need to changed one of my email account but it can not be inputted in iphone, and hence the phone is not exchanging any email. . I am in great trouble. I not even able to delete any account from it. please help me.

I just got off the phone with Apple Support. Fantastic service! I love Apple.
Okay, this is what they had me do, and it fixed all of my issues:
Go to Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network SettingsThis deletes all of your Wi-Fi settings and passwords, among other things, apparently.
The phone thinks for a while, and then restarts.
Go to Settings -> Wi-Fi -> and sign into your Wi-Fi network, as usual
That's IT!!
After that, I was able to delete accounts freely, set up a new account, change the options I wanted, and now everything works beautifully.
It's such a simple fix, and I wish I had thought of it on my own, but I never would've thought that all of these problems were caused by a need to flush out the network settings. Anyway, I hope this might help anyone else who runs into the same problem. Thanks for your help, pdroth.

Add the following line to $ORACLE_HOME/search/webapp/config/search.properties and then restart oc4j:
ses.qapp.similar_doc_handling=disabled
Maybe you didn't restart oc4j (using "searchctl restart")?

How do I get these Entourage features in Mail?

Long time Mac user, just installed Leopard (10.5.2) and decided to switch to Mail. (actually I have both Entourage and Mail receiving mail until I decide which to kick offline)
I miss these Entourage features in Mail and was wondering if I'm just not seeing how to make them happen, of if they just aren't available in Mail.
1. *Inbox divided up by when mail was received*, "Yesterday", "2 Days Ago", "Last Week", etc.. Love this feature, is it available in Mail?
2. *Buttons for Ital, Bold, Underscore, etc.* right in the menu bar when I'm composing an email... can i make that happen instead of having to open up the fonts and colors palettes?
3. *When I attach documents in Mail* they appear in the body of the email instead of the little "Attachments" line at the top of an email in Entourage. Can I do this in Mail?
4. *If i don't capitalize an i* in Entourage, it does it for me... can i have this feature in Mail?
5. *Can I press a button in Mail to make the address book (iCal) pop up?* Or do I have to go down to the dock and launch it everytime I want to add a new contact from scratch?

In short...
1. No, but you can make Smart Mailboxes to do the same thing. Make one to show all e-mail received Yesterday, one to show all e-mail received 2 Days Ago, and one for Last Week, etc.
2. No, but you can use ⌘I for Italic, ⌘B for Bold and ⌘U for Underline
3. Your attachments should appear in the "attachments line" for the person receiving your e-mail, but not for you when you send it
4. There isn't an auto-correct feature, as far as I know
5. Yes, you can add an Address button to the Toolbar by Customizing it. You can also summon the Address Panel by pushing option⌘A

Problems using the 'stationery template' feature in mail

I have used the stationery templates feature in mail without any problems in the past. Now when i send a stationery template, like a photo template, the email is unreadable for the people receiving my emails (both Mac & PC). Sometimes the email looks like a Picasso painting or the receiver gets a bunch of attachments as if the email came in a bunch of separate files. Could this be possible due to the upgrade to 10.6 from 10.5? Or am i doing something wrong? Is there a separate upgrade for this?

I don't think there's a way to edit the previous recipients. Not easily, anyway.
I'd just delete what's wrong and make sure to get it right the next time.

Good catch. However, there is a "Save to Pocket" option for larger transfers. Personally, I use Dropbox for larger documents.

Tab Feature in mail

Would like to see the Tab feature in Mail similar to Safari, I think this would be a great enhancement.

Missed useful feature in mail.app spotligth

In Leopard OS was a very useful feature in mail.ap spotligth.
When you drag'n'drop a letter to the spotlight window of the 10.5 mail.app all the letters from mail recipient were shown as a spotlight-find-result. It was a very useful feature in previous MacOS. Not it's lost.
Is this feature lost only in my OS?

Export feature in Mail.app literally does nothing?

I used to use the export feature in Mail.app fairly frequently to back up my GMail and some other email to a local disk.
Now the export feature seems to do almost literally nothing.
No matter what account, folder, sub-folder, or "mailbox" I choose, when I export it, I end up with 3 files: Info.plist and table_of_contents, both of which are trivially small (maybe 30 to 200 bytes) and an mbox file, which should contain my emails, but it's zero bytes.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?

In the upgrade to Yosemite, the distribution list feature in mail appears to have been eliminated. Any suggestions?

Prior to upgrading to Yosemite, mail allowed you to select all from a contact group and paste the e-mail address of the group to an e-mail send field. This "distribution list" feature does not seem to work in this new system. Any suggestions?

Unwanted name in Mail

A few weeks ago, Mail started calling me by "Friends of ECSONG"<address> instead of what I want, "John Sankey"<address>. I can't find where this unwanted name is stored or how to get rid of it. I've gone through the preferences (full name in Account in particular) and even all my Address book and can't find where this came from.
How do I get Mail to use my full name as listed in my mail account? (I've only the one, and it's standard POP)

First shh. Oddly, just today I had a friend call me about the Mail on his MacBook. It had put "Russia fund" in front of his name. He called me claiming that his Mac had been hacked. I told him that was probably not the case, but it was wierd and to contact his isp. After, 2 hours of trouble-shooting with TWC, they found it was on their end and "didn't know how it had happened".
The fix was to re-enter the settings.

Search Feature in Mail only partly works

I have two questions today
1. when I search for a specific sender in my mail for Mac software I doesn't find or rarely finds any of the received messages, basically the search feature FROM doesn't work. When I switch FROM to ALL it will only show my sent messages.
Which setting can I update to fix this?
2. What do I need to use if I wish to search for two words in Mail without seeing results for each individual word?

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
          Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
A folder window will open. Inside it there should be files with names as follows:
          Envelope Index
          ExternalUpdates.storedata
Move those files to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have longer names that begin as above. Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK. Typically, the process takes a few minutes, but it may take hours if you have gigantic mailboxes. In that case, you may be able to speed things up by temporarily adding your home folder to the Privacy list in the Spotlight preference pane. Remove it when Mail has finished importing.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the files you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

Highlighted words in the search feature in mail

hi all, ok, maybe i am going crazy, but in mail under tiger, i thought i use to be able to see any searched word highlighted in the messages mail found containing that word. now when i perform a search in mail under leopard, the searched for word is not highlighted in any of the messages. am i crazy or did leopard do away with this feature? if so, does anyone know of a way to get searched words highlighted in mail under leopard?

Hi mountart2, thanks for the hint. It helps a little bit, better than nothing
But again, it works only, if you click in one of the listet mails and you press then the command+g. Only the words in this email are then highlighted. For a search in the next mail, you have to select it, mail after mail.
I agree with you, there must be a preference somewhere, where you switch it on.

Adding font features to Mail

A lot of email programs make it easy to change font features by having a bar across the top of the message page containing buttons to do so. In fact, as I'm typing this, I notice that this window has something similar. Bold, italic, underline, size, etc. Is it in Mail's future to have a bar across the top of the window to be able to do this without having to open a separate window to do it? It would be a real time-saver. TIA
