An upgrade to 10.4 cut iTunes cd import speed nearly in half? Help!

Just upgraded my Mini to 10.4 and saw an immediate negative impact on import speed in iTunes. What was average 8.0-10.0X import speed has dropped to 5.0-8.0X average. If I'm REALLY lucky it jumps to 9.5X. I'm not the smartest tech-type person out there, but I can recognize cause & effect. Any suggestions or ideas?

iTunes import speed is reliant on both RAM and processor speed. Tiger has a host of applications that run in the background called Widgets. Starting with 10.4.2 you could manage your own widgets with Apple's Manage Widgets button on Dashboard. Try disabling all widgets and see if it makes a difference.

is available for 10.4 and 10.4.1 to do the same thing.
Also if Spotlight hasn't finished indexing, that could slow down other system processes. Check the Spotlight menu (the blue circle with the white magnifying glass in the upper right corner) to see if there is just a search field, or a search field with the words saying that it is indexing. If the latter, wait until it is finished.

Have you looked in the Music App on your iPhone? On the iPhone music is played by the Music App not iTunes.

I downloaded this new 7.0 version of itunes, and now my import speed is about 0.3x !! before it was at least 3.5x 0r even higher!! i tried different cd's, cleaning them, changing the encoder that I use!! can anyone help me? please!!!

Same problem after installing the latest version of iTunes. I tried the workaround and that did improve the importing speed dramatically (from maybe infinite to 2-3 mins for a 2 - 3 minutes song), but I still don't get much higher than 1.0x speed. This is much worse than with the old version of iTunes. Someone from Apple needs to provide some input here...

Upgrading to Windows vista means itunes wont detect my ipod?? Help please.

Recently upgraded to windows Vista. Big whopdeedo.
But anyway, when I plug my ipod in, windows tries to update drivers for it, but of course failas horribly.
However, this is having a knock on effect that means itunes wont detect my ipod. So, while my ipod recharges, I cannot sync it. Thus I can't add new songs and what-not.

Yes my ipod is jailbroken, but this has never proved an issue before.
Its not just itunes that now wont recognise my ipod, my other software wont either, and they used to work with the jailbroken ipod.
This all started after i synced a nano, then connected my ipod and a screen came up saying ipod camera connected.
I click on the camera icon in mycomputer and properties tab then selected take no action in the events tab.
This hasnt resolved my issue, and the ipod still comes up as a camera in mycomputer, the only difference being im now not prompted to choose a program to view my photos with.
This is really getting up my nose, as for the second poster, sorry that article was no help at all.

My Valetplus M20 router cuts speed near in half?!?

I did a test to check the speed of my connection with my PS3. First I checked the speed straight from my internet providers modem and I get 18.9 Mbps. Then checked it through the Valetplus router and the speed results are 8.5 Mbps. Both tests were wired in with same cable. Can anyone explain why this happens and if that is common with wifi routers? Thank you.

First thing to consider about this is the firmware of the router. If there is a new firmware available then proceed with the upgrade and reset the router afterwards. Next thing to consider is the link/card speed that the computer gets when the computer will be connected to the modem and the router. If there is no discrepancy with the link speed but there is a discrepancy with the actual internet speed; then there’s a possibility that there might be something wrong with the router. An exclamation mark means that it doesn't know where you moved the music to. To fix this, click on the exclamation point and when it asks you to browse to the location where you moved it to, use the normal commands to go up and down folders in your external drive until you find the song. Repeat as necessary.

Just for information in case helps anyone else, I have now accessed the back-up, I tried a different password from memory but it is not the normal iTunes password I use - which is what you'd expect them to be after. But you'll have to use your Apple ID to sync bought media to her device. Disable all other things you don't want to sync like photos, contacts, etc.

The price of FCPX pretty much is the cost of the upgrade of FCPStudio, but a much better value (at least so far -- every update has been free.) However, it's only the single app so you might feel like you're not getting as much for your money. Don't be fooled. Most of Color and Soundtrack Pro are built into FCPX. FCPX will conform video automatically so Cinema Tools aren't really needed anymore. The Motion engine is part of FCPX, although I do recommend buying Motion 5 (an extra 50 bucks.) (Motion 4 seems to have died in Yosemite - you can't even launch it.)
I "upgraded" from Final Cut Studio 3... it took me about a week to decide to pack up all the old software for good. YMMV. However, if you use DVD Studio Pro... hang on to that.
