Analog-Formac-DV? help!

Can anyone help with this? I'm trying to import analog video into Final Cut Pro 3 or imovie HD and getting error messages like "Camera not detected" and "No firewire found". I've disconnected and reconnected all cables several times, but have had no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I use the Formac with FCP from time to time, so perhaps I can be of some help.
Formac accepts either composite or S video as analog sources, but you must set the Formac channel controller to either S or composite using the Formac software. I am using version 3.2. This selection tells the Formac which "channel" to accept through its FW to your CPU. As already advised, you must use uncontrolled device and of course only Capture Now in FCP.
If you cannot set the channel while in formac, use the iMovie (gasp) option in Formac's software (preferences) which pops up Formac's channel selector panel when you start FCP. I can only guess why this works this way.

    Hi achyuth,
Thank you for posting on the National Instruments forum.
I am not sure what you are trying to do.  Are you trying to input and output at the
same time?  Are you just trying to
synchronize all of your inputs?  Do you
want them to run off the same clock?  If
you could, give me some more information so I can understand your problem
    better.

  • No output sound from output port/analog audio: Need help

hello, I want to connect my analog audio equipment to my iMac. I have done this in the past with my old G3. I have connected the RCA cables to a 3.5 mm jack and put it into the audio input port, which was what worked on the G3. When I open the sound page for input & output, on Output I can see the volume bar thing moving in relation to the sounds from mic, turntable, etc: all the analog audio things. However, there is no actual output of sound through the iMac;s speakers or a headphone. The output page is pretty simple so I am real sure I have all the rigt things checked, unchecked etc. Any ideas? Thanks.

I had what sounds like a similar problem to jazzzrat. i had my macbook setup to a stereo and it worked for over a year. suddenly no sound came out of the stereo. in my case, it definitely was a software setup thing.
plug in your stereo jack into the audio out port. then go to system preferences-->sound-->output. on there you should see, under "device for sound output": Name=Headphones, port=built-in output. (if you see name=built in speakers, you plugged in the wrong plug). Now go down to the bottom of the window and UNcheck the "mute" box, and make sure the volume slider is midway or more.
For some reason, mac allows you to mute the "headphones" and "built in speakers" selectively. we have no idea how that box got checked, that remains a complete mystery. but when we eventually found -- and unchecked -- the box, our stereo output came back just fine.
i hope this works for you. good luck and have a good new year.

  • Analog signal staircase help

    Hello all,
I'm still new to LabVIEW, but I've played around enough to create a simple analog waveform generator. The signals produced appear staircased when displayed on an oscilloscope, but are smooth when I reread the signals into an analog input (as shown by the waveform graph). How can I change my program settings so that I can view this staircased signal?
I run LabVIEW 2010, and use a USB X Series Multifunction DAQ.
    Thanks,

    Olivier,
Thank you for posting. I am a little unclear about what some of the front panel controls are in you're images, but I will explain the best that I can about what I believe is going on.
Take a look at the following images.
    Generating a 1kHz sine wave:
    Acquiring at 100kHz:
Acquiring at the Nyquist Frequency (2X the input signal's frequency):
What I am trying to demonstrate here is that you are only going to see a smooth signal if you are sampling fast enough. For instance, if you generate a 1kHz and sample at 2kHz, you will only see two samples per period. This will give you an accurate period and frequency, but nothing else. Because an analog to digital converter is used here, you must sample at a much faster rate to get a "smooth" signal. In my above 100kHz acquisition, you see that we are getting 100 samples per period which produces a much smoother waveform. I would suggest that you acquire a 5kHz signal at something on the order of 500kHz to see a smooth signal.
Let me know if you have further questions!

  • Getting Rid of my Old 14" Analog TV-Need Help & Suggestions

I am thinking about getting rid of my old 14" analog TV and Verizon provided me with a digital box. I want to replace the TV but it has to be smaller in size. Right now, I have just a white cable going into it.
    1) When I buy a new digital (I need it small in size), will I be able to simply plug this white cable back into the new TV?
    2) I believe I have to return the digital converter but I don't see anywhere on the website on how to do this.
I am limited in space and would need the same type of connection (not using HDMI). Can anyone recommend a TV small and thin in size that would work?
    Thanks in advance!

Try searching (Google, Amazon,) or looking at R/S, Target, Best Buy, etc for a "portable HDTV".  Mostly all have AC/DC capability and a wall wart so you can plug it in for power.  Then look for one that has a coax connection for a signal in so that you can use a box and won't need to use the antenna provided.
Most are like small tablets, with a stand.
On the other hand, there are small (15") HDTVs out there.
Anything you get in the digital world should be much thinner than your SD.  I'm running  12" and a 15" RCAs SD, and even my 55" HDTV is thinner than either of those
You will find that you will undoubtedly need a box and when you get an HD box, it will be larger.  That may change your mind
Otherwise, you can look at thrift stores, etc, to see if there is an old smaller used SD around.

  • Which analog VI to trigger relays?

I inherited a prototype scientific experiment that wasn't working. The setup is USB 6009, with analog output triggering solid state relays.
All my labview work has been with digital VI. I'm not sure which Analog VI to use for this digital type function.
Can someone suggest example analog VIs for outputting 4 volts to trigger the relay, leaving it on for several minutes, then setting output back to 0 to turn it off.
Please excuse the elementary nature of this request.

The USB 6009 has digital outputs, so do you actually *have* to use the analog output channels?
If so, there are generally 2 ways to do this:
Method 1: Write out a single value (4V), wait, and then write out a 0.
Method 2: Create a waveform that's your pulse, and write out the waveform.
Unfortunately, the USB 6009 is a software-timed device as it has no onboard memory, so you can't use Method 2. You can find examples that ship with LabVIEW on analog output generation (Help -> Find Examples). You can also just use the DAQ Assistant.

  • Another way to look at Events and albums (smart and dumb)

Maybe this will help others, but I had an epiphany regarding iPhoto 08 and the organizational method (or lack there of) in regards to Events and albums, etc.
Here it goes: iPhoto is now iTunes for pictures. I know it has been said before, but this time it truly is.
When you import a CD with iTunes, it creates a directory of songs in your library. When you import a group of pictures in iPhoto, it similarly imports them as an event. Events = CD's, plain and simple.
Think of searching for photos the same way you would search for songs. By typing in the artist, the album the specific title - etc you can easily find a song. With events, all the pictures are linked to the title of the event, so searching is very easy and fast.
Gone are the days of complicated hierarchy systems in Winamp or iPhoto 06. If you want a photo, you type the name of the event - or a keyword tagged into the photo.
But say you want some albums of specific songs, or in this case, photos. You can create albums or smart albums to accomplish this for quick access. Or maybe a Christmas album that automatically updates with every christmas photo entered and tagged.
I am an Aperture user and all my folders are setup like this:
    Vacations --> Beach --> Florida --> 2007
If I switched to iPhoto, they will be created in a simple event, for example:
    Florida Beach Vacation 2007
Now every picture within that event name would be searchable by typing in florida, beach etc. Even deeper, by tagging individual photos by the person's name or any other photo-specific info, these pics would even be more searchable.
Anyway, I hope this helps some people grasp the new concepts of organization in iPhoto 08. Surely it can be done several different ways, but I think this may be the best way to do it.

Events = CD's, plain and simple.
Great analogy! May I then add,
    Albums = playlists
I see people here asking why a photo can't be in an album and in No event; perhaps the iTunes analogy would be helpful to them. If you don't have the song in your library (because you don't have that CD) then you can't put it in a playlist. (Nevermind that you can download single songs now - it doesn't fit the analogy. Remember when you had to buy the hard copy.)
    Thanks for the information.
    Regards.

  • What sensor should be used to measure speed of motor

    Hi,
I am using NI PCI-6624 to control the speed of dc motor. I have used "PWM-Counter Output.vi" example to generate PWM pulses to control the input power of motor. I am using "counter output" and "analog input" terminals of PCI-6624. Counter output terminal is used to generate PWM signal and "analog input" terminal will be used as an input from speed sensor.
Can someone tell me what sensor I can use to measure the speed of motor. Please note that the output of the sensor will be the analog input to PCI6624, so it is essential that speed sensor's output is ANALOG.
Please help me in this matter and tell me which sensor can be used and from where I can buy it ?
    Thanks

    Ayaz,
the straight forward low-cost solution for velocity measurements is using a quadrature encoder. With your  DAQ device you could use the second counter of the board to measure the frequency of one phase, but that's jus one option amongst others.
I haven't come across sensors that output a voltage that is proportional to velocity but expect such a device to be much more expensive and probably less accurate.
Do you plan to do closed loop velocity control? Are you using Windows or a realtime system?

  • Adobe Photoshop 3.2

Hi, I am having the same problem as other people on here about getting pictures out of the Adobe 3.2 after the sunscription ran out. Of course I can't register and unlock it because it is no longer supported. I tried this a couple of years ago and tech support would not help so gave up. This time the Adobe tech told me to go to this forum. It seems like someone at Adobe Tech line would be able to help you instead of telling you to go to this forum. Is the page I am looking at the album? I went under My Pictures and found a Adobe file and then a Digital Camera file and deleted the pictures on there some of which were on the 3.2 page. After reading other forums, I still don't understand how to get to these pictures. I have tried the Search using the picture id and it found just that pic. I know a good bit about using a computer, but there is still a lot I don't know or understand. Any help that can be given in as simple terms as possible would really help. I really want to look at the pics as they were taken in 2003, but will probably delete most of them. Right now am downloading pics from my cell phone which I think is being done by Adobe Photoshop and then putting them in My Documents. I did notice that if I double click on C Drive, then double click on Program Files, then click on Adobe, then double click on Photoshop Album Starter Edition, then double click on 3.2, then double click on Apps, all kind of files, folders or apps whatever they are are there. Some of the pics may have loaded with the software that came with an HP camera I had. I don't know it has been so long. I have been trying some of the things on the forum and not having any luck. I can get some, but not all of the pics.

Yes, that helps. I have looked in those folders and found some of them.
However, I don't know exactly what you mean by using Windows Explorer  to find
the files. I think that is what I did. However, if you could explain I
    would know for sure.
    Thanks,

    Hi  DCrosen,
The way you phrased the problem; "can't get photos 'out'  of 3.2', reveals
a common misconception about Album and your photos. I just  thought of an
    analogy that might help.
If your in the restaurant  and you look at a picture menu, that's Photoshop
Album. When you order the  food, the waiter goes back and gets your meal
from the kitchen; the kitchen is  the folder where your pictures are actually
    stored.
The menu is  not a replacement for the kitchen; it's simply a
representation of the  kitchen. If the menus all burned up some day (unfortunately, as
this is  basically what happened with the Starter Edition app), your food
doesn't go  away, just the pictures of the food.
One of the benefits, yet  drawbacks, of Starter Edition is that is easily
masked where the kitchen was;  people who had gotten used to using Starter
Edition to access their photos  were unaware of the actual location of the
files, so that when the app stopped  working, many were asking the very same
question you ask, which is 'how do I  get my photos now?".
The answer is that you will have to resort  to the 'normal' routine of
    dredging through the file system using Windows  Explorer to locate the files;
all we can do is guess where you may have stored  those files; they could be
in your My Pictures folder; they might even be in  an Adobe Digital Camera
folder in your My Pictures folder, if you used the  downloader to copy files
    to your computer.
The files and folders  in your Program Files folder are where the program
itself is stored, not the  images which would have been downloaded by the
program; those generally go  into your My Pictures folder (but you could have
changed the default to go  anywhere).
Does any of this help explain where the files might  be?

  • No audio from Optical Input

Hi there. I've recently bought a new TV which I use as my monitor but I also want to play the TV sound through my Mac (when i'm watching a tv programme, i want it to play through my mac). I've plugged the Optical cable into the line in and nothing is happening. I've checked all the settings and they all seem ok. I'm confused.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Sam.

    dear sam...
I think you're a little confused. Optical input would mean a dvd player/cd player
giving you an optical signal out. I haven't heard of any tv's that would do that, but I might be wrong. best bet would be to use a twin rca--> 3.5 mm jack cable
as the audio coming from your tv probably is analog
    Hope this helps

  • What is the best way to use Sharepoint to manage rotations of responsibilities?

What would be the best way to manage rotations of responsibilities in SharePoint (2013, cloud)?   We have several such cases where we rotate people taking turns (sometimes overlapping and more than one at a time and other times not)
    - just a simple document or simple list or other good ideas?

Thank you - I'll give an analogy that may help to see if you still think the type of list you descried may be best.
If you think of a school system where there is a rotation of teachers required to cover sports events:
There exists a list of teachers in the order that they would normally be assigned
Certain events have special rules (night football game requires 3 teachers to be assigned)
Holiday events are "burdensome duty" and so past holiday coverage is noted and try to avoid repeat person on holidays.
Each year the admin would look at those factors and assign out coverage for the semester and then update the list with what occurred.  The next semester, the admin would fill out the next assignment on the calendar factoring in what occurred last time
    and new teachers, etc.
I think a given semester's calendar is easy to visualize what to do in SharePoint - the list used to build that each semester is harder for me to picture how to maintain/display (for transparency sake).
    Thanks!

  • How do quarter tones work?

Could anyone please explain in detail the difference between the top vs. bottom sliders in the levels control when quarter tones are enabled? Thanks!

The way I consider the sliders working may not be THE way, but it helps me.
    Gross oversimplification, but ...
Bottom sliders = amount of change
Top sliders = point at which change takes place
So, the top sliders are akin to where we would move the drag point(s) on the curve in CS2 Curves, and the bottom sliders are the degree we'd move the curve away from linear.
Not the best analogy, but it helps me, and maybe it will help you.

  • Scoring a perfect 300

Although it is rare to score a perfect 850, there are probably thousands of people who have done it, The flip side (perfect badness = 300) is something I am guessing, however, that no one has ever attained.  Does anyone know of a documented case of this? In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if nobody has come even close.  Scoring in the top 50 (the "800 club") is not unusual at all.  The chart below suggests that 18% is the approximate number of consumers year by year who attain an 800.  But I don't know of any data that show the % for the bottom 50.  Even the chart below lumps all the bad scouts into a big 200-point range (300-499). http://www.fico.com/en/blogs/risk-compliance/fico-score-distribution-remains-mixed/ Anyone have a guess as to what the lowest anyone has ever scored?  My thought is that it's probably in the upper 300s, but if someone produced hard evidence that the worst scorer of all time was (say) 413, it wouldn't surprise me. PS.  Note: I am confining this to FICO algorithms where the lowest theoretical score is 300.  Various specialty metrics can go lower. (Auto, Bankcard enhanced, etc. I think go down to 250.)

Hey TT.  Well, it sounds like there are a couple ways to understand the ranges provided by Jello77 (which he is getting from various sources, e.g. the EX doc). (1)  They are first and foremost reports of what has actually been achieved.  Secondarily some inferences from them are possible about what is possible in theory. (2)  They are first and foremost descriptions of what is theoretically possible.  Secondarily some inferences from them are possible about what has actually been achieved. It sounds like you understand them as #1.  I understand them as #2.  I also think this is how a number of other people see them. Take the example of Jello77's range for EQ FICO 04 (334-818).  With perspective #1, it means that the highest anybody has ever managed to score is 818.  But perspective #1 leaves open the possibility that somebody could score higher next week, much like the idea of a sprinter setting a new record for the 100 meter dash.  The world record might be 9.58 seconds, but maybe someone else will come along next week and do it in 9.47 seconds.  Here one assumes that FICO's theoretical range as a given: it really is 300-850 and the"real world range" is just a description of what individuals have done. With the perspective of #2, however, we see that as first and foremost a description of the model itself.  818 is the very highest it is possible to score.  Now additionally, if we add the observed fact that people do indeed get perfect credit scores, we can infer that people must be getting 818 -- since 818 is perfect in that model for that CRA.  But the range itself (in perspective #2) was fundamentally first a description of the model.  So one difficulty that a proponent of perspective #1 would have as in understanding the ceiling of 818 for FICO 04 Equifax.  That's the reason I gave that to you initially.  Why is it nobody is ever able to break this sound barrier?  It becomes a kind of grand coincidence -- apparently none of us have good enough data at EQ.  But with #2, you can explain the range as a description of the model itself.  Furthermore, and this is key, once you see the 818 as a description of theoretical maximum then the other end is the theoretical minimum (not ncessarily an actual score someone achieved). Another huge difficulty for #1, which I also mentioned, is looking at the actual data (such as we have it) as you get close to the low end of the spectrum.  Look carefully at the Experian chart we have been talking about (for FICO 8). http://www.experian.com/assets/consumer-information/brochures/risk-based-pricing-rule/experian-fico-risk-model-v8-table_0612.pdf You'll see that at the high end, the scores are finely gradated.  The people in the very top 1% are scoring in a tight cluster of three points: 848-850.  In the next lower percentile, people are clustering in another tight range of 7 points: 841-847.  And so on.  Each cluster is a very small range and much like the one before it.  Gradually the ranges for each cluster become larger as you move toward the middle scorers.  Then the clusters start to become smaller as you move toward the low end.  Then suddenly (!) there is a gigantic gap.  We go from a cluster of 10 points (465-475) for percentile 2 to an utter non cluster of 149 points (316-464) for percentile 1. #1 can only view this as a bizarre fluke.  Why should that last percentile suddenly explode into such an enormous range?  I dunno, says #1.  But with perspective #2 it makes sense.  316 is not a description of what some specific person has scored.  It is the absolute lowest value that is theoretically possible.  The chart says that the lowest 1% of consumers score in that huge range: 316-464.  That will be true if a real person really scored 316, but would also true if the lowest score that has happened thus far is (say) 417.  Here is an analogy that may help, back from when (most of us) were in high school.  We all remember taking tests.  And we can remember that the teacher would give us a score, which was the percent we got right.  Very often he'd group those as follows:    A = 90-100    B = 80-89    C = 70-79    D = 60-69    F = 0-59 If someone asked him what his ranges were, he'd give them those numbers.  Note that each of the top four letter grades are reasonably tightly clustered.  A little range of ten points.  Suddenly the lowest category explodes in a huge range (0-59).  Does that mean that somebody actually answered every single question wrong (and therefore got 0% right)?  No.  The 0-59 describes what is theoretically possible.  It does not say that somebody actually did the absolute worst possible that one can imagine.  As a matter of fact, it's immensely unlikely that any of your classmates answered every question wrong, though it is quite possible that several of them got every question right. Now one thing that the chart does tell us is that someone really did score 464 (or lower) -- much in the same way that, if the teacher says that somebody failed, we know that somebody must have gotten a 59 or lower.  But how much lower did the lowest real person actually score?  The chart (as given) can't tell us. Hope that helps!  Best wishes...
