Analog Mix and Windows 7

Hello,?
I just installed Windows 7 (x86) and the driver for my SoundBlaster Audigy Soundcard (drivers 6.0..377 from file "Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series driver 2.8.007").
But now here is my issue:
I use the "line in" to record audio. This "line in" is managed via the "Analog Mix" option.
On Windows XP, we had the possibility to set the volume of each input of this "Analog mix" (for example mute CD and record "line in"). I can't find back this possibility in Windows 7, the "Analog mix" records everything. Is there any way to manage the volume of each input separately in Windows 7 as in XP?
Thanks

It is possible, but unless you are familiar with the "BCD" to which you can manually modify and then know how to  reset the bootector after you install XP, you'll have to install XP first then Windows 7. For them to co-exist natively, that is without a third party boot utility, the system has to be setup in a "bootmgr" not an "ntloader" environment. I'm not sure why you wish to run both, but if this is just a compatablity issue, you might be better off just installing the XP Mode utility under Windows 7.

  • Leopard, Linux and Windows mixed networks

Oh oh so funny. I installed Leopard on my mac. I have a mixed network, with PCs, Macs and Linux machines.
I discovered that Leopard networking is a nightmare, something back like Windows 95. Is not a joke!
After installing with an upgrade from 10.4.10, all the Windows machines of my network disappeared. )-: . No way to see in the finder. But ok, using the terminal I can manage to use. But...
My real problem started when I tried to reconnect the drives from the Linux machines. The new networking act like Windows, Iit doesn't allow me to choice different passwords and usernames from each drives in the same server. Ok, I say myself "for the moment, I mount one volume, I use it, then I unmount, I mount another volume etcetera". Not so useful, but manageable. And here the second nightmare begin: Finder isn't able to disconnect my disk! I use the eject button, or the "disconnect" button and the disk remain mounted. I rebooted the machine. Same, the disk is mounted. I restarted both mac and linux machine. Same, it reconnect the drive )-: . So I'm locked to one drive of my server and I can't do nothing else.
If someone with a mixed network is experimenting the same issues, please help!
    Thanks a lot!
P.S. I'm really disappointed. Before making jokes (with the PCs of the network displayed with the blue screen of death icon) they must use the time to test their system... and hey, please don't display the BSOD icon when the machines connected to the network are Linux computers (-: !!!

Read the hint is this blog about the Mac to Linux SAMBA fix.
Did you go to System Preferences->Sharing pane and turn on File sharing on (hit the 'Advanced' button to choose the kind of sharing protocols)?
Also do mix and matching from the articles File Sharing With OS X 10.5 - Introduction to File Sharing With Your Mac (for XP sharing) & File Sharing With Snow Leopard: Sharing OS X 10.6 Files With Windows 7 (for 10.6.x sharing). Mixing these two articles can help you share as long as you are in the same IP subnet.

  • Audigy 2 ZS and Surround Mixer in Windows 7

    +?
Ok, I just installed Windows 7 Enterprise on a new HP XW 4600 workstation (NL, Dutch). This is a clean install. I have a Audigy 2 ZS (SB0350) and I dont have the surround mixer. Here is what I did:
?Install Windows 7 Enterprise and take all the pathes from Microsoft.
    2.
?Intall the Audigy 2 ZS soundblaster? card in the computer
    3.
?After the boot up I ingnore the message ?found new hardware?
    4.
?I go to the Creative website and download the following programs
SBAX_PCDRV_LB_2_8_00 and WAVESTD_PCAPP_LB_7_2_00? which are recommended for my sound card.
    5.
?I cant find the surround mixer, it is even not installed
    6.
?I try the ?webupdate? there are some updates and I install them all
    7.
    ?Again no Surround Mixer.
Can someone explain what I do or did wrong ?
I realy need the Surround Mixer !!

/Re: Audigy 2 ZS and Surround Mixer in Windows 7? i got problem with recording any sound. Recorded sounds are terrible. Sometimes playing sounds are terrible too. i should restart pc for fix playing terrible sound.
    i found 2 third-party driver but i didnt tried. Because of decription of 3rd-party driver ;
There is no DirectSound hardware acceleration on Windows XP 64-bit (x64)
The Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, disabling the DirectSound hardware acceleration and causing multichannel sound to be played only in the stereo channels (front left/right).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows XP.
    - limit to less than 4GB the amount of RAM available to Windows.
    - enable the ?Memory Hole? setting in the BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports it.
Microphone issues on Windows 7/Vista 64-bit (x64) with 4GB?of RAM or more
Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, resulting in random issues with the Microphone (static, robotic or distorted voice, white noise).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows
    - limit the RAM available to Windows to less than 4GB
    - enable Memore Hole in BIOS Setup, if?your motherboard supports the setting

Before, Windows ME was installed, but I have now Windows XP.
The Surround Mixer and AudioHQ cannot be installed on Windows XP.
But I would like to use them. I have checked with no success for updated in Creative Labs download site:

  • Best wireless security for mixed Mac OS X, Windows XP and Windows 2000

While I am posting, I may as well ask this question too.
It seems that WPA/WPA2 are only supported by Windows XP or later.
But I also think I read somewhere that there are different flavours of WEP for Macs and Windows.
For a home network based on AE, what is the best form of wireless security to handle 2 Macs (iMac and MacBook Pro), a Windows XP and a Windows 2000 notebook (all running wireless G).
    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion Michael - unfortunately software changes to the Win2k machine are not an option for me - it has been completely locked down by my corporate IT dept.
So I think I am stuck with WEP. From scouring the Apple tech discussion posts it looks like a five letter ASCII or thirteen letter ASCII password in WEP are my only options, but I am not sure which of these is most appropriate for all 4 machines.

  • I have partitioned my time capsule, but I can't get it to work as a Time Machine back up and permanent media server for both mac and PC. What format do I need to partition the drive to so that it works for both mac and windows and so that it will be visab

I have partitioned my time capsule, as I want part of it to act as a media server for both mac and windows. However I don't know what format that I need to partition it to. I also can't make it a permanently accesible drive. I want to restore the drive to the original format (which I don't know) and start again and re-partition the drive in a format that can be used for media by both mac and PC and for time machine back-ups and make the media part of it permanetly accesible so I can add and acccess my files.
    Thanks

You are mixing up a couple of things here.
The TC drive cannot be partitioned without removing it.. did you do that?
If you partition it you must use a Mac disk utility and use the HFS+ ie standard Mac format. And GUID partition table not windows type.
You can select erase disk in the airport utility.. that will take the disk back to original format. No partitions. TC is deliberately not partitioned as it is not a media server.. it is a backup device for TM. Over time .. the disk will be filled with TM backups so you have a long history of file changes to your computer.
There is no media server in the TC.. it is merely disk storage.. you can serve files from it to a media device.. but the TC itself is dumb as dumb.
Now the actual format of the drive is irrelevant to the PC.. The TC offers SMB file services to the network. You can copy files to and from the TC as if it was a local disk without caring one iota about the format. The TC handles that .. it is not a local disk .. it is a network drive.
Although you cannot partition the TC. you can still copy files to it.. this does have implications for TM.. but as long as there is plenty of free space should not be a major issue.
You can create a disk image via the disk utility in a Mac.. and as stated you can create partitions if you do it on a Mac with the disk directly connected which means breaking warranty if any exists on the TC.

  • Using Logic 9 with mixer and audio line in on Mac Book Pro.

Hello, I Just began studio recording, and am making the switch from garage band to logic 9.
I do not know how to make my instruments play through logic 9 using a mixer and a Line In connection to the mac like I could with garage band.
Please scroll down to the bold underline text for tl;dr
I am self taught, and never thought I would love working with sound, and I spent over a year touring the US doing live sound for concerts and am now helping out with live studio recordings, and projects on my own.
It started as something to do to fight boredom and to help, basically making sure nobody touched the mixer or to unplug it if things caught on fire.
By the end of the year I had been helping "Others" with live sound, and I learned a lot about the features and trims on the analog mixer that are more complex than "mixing the volume of each track" lol.
So please be patient with me. I do not know many of the terms, I just "feel" when something is not right and know where to go to in order to fix it or make it better, I dont have much practice when it comes to the technical side with computers and sound.
so I will try my best to understand your help.
Anyway's, I looked up online, and I cannot figure out how to get logic 9 to playback instruments set up on my mixer.
I currently have Male L/R 1/4inch to 8th Inch cables coming from main into the Line In port on the mac.
I know this setup is called "stereo" (I think?) and Im limited with only two separate tracks to record, so I have my selected tracks panned right and left for two separate inputs on the program.
I know everything works because I had it all setup on garage band, I changed nothing for logic, but all I can find are MIDI tutorials and I am using analog to line in, not MIDI.
Please let me know what I have to do to bring up two separate tracks, and also be able to hear them wile I play before recording.

Kudos to figuring it out yourself.
Yes, Logic is geared to the professional user, you will need to set up the program to your particular way of working, Logic was well developed for professional use long before Apple purchased it, it's not an Apple program per se. It's complex and offers a myriad number of choices so that it can be configured to many styles of working, there's often 3 or 4 ways to perform the same function.
Logic insists the user educate themselves... which is a good thing.
    Here ya go!

  • Group policy Preferences server 2008 and windows 7

Hi I have been struggling with an issue with group policy preferences for a while now with regard to pushing out printers to windows 7 (32/64 bit) Machines. I have two DC servers one is 2008 and the other is 2008 r2. I have setup the group policies on the
2008 server as it is the only one i am allowed to access regularly to do this.
Basically here is my problem. I have created multiple GPO's to send out printers from out print server to classrooms across the school district I work for, I have a mix of xp and windows 7 machines. I have the server setup with both 32 and 64bit drivers
for all printers on that server, we have a mix of oki and hp and ricoh. I know all the connections work and the drivers work well, however when I push them out using the group policy, the windows 7 machines don't install the printers. The xp machines do this
perfectly well when I install the client side extensions patch, but they just will not pull down on the 7 machines unless i install the printer first manually, then delete it and then run gpupdate. In that instance it will work, but obviously i don't want
to have to go round thousands of computers doing this manually.
Just as a side note, each classroom has its own user account and its own printer.
If anyone has any advice as to how i can go about resolving this issue i would greatly appreciate it, this has been a problem i have been researching and trying to fix since January.......

    Hi,
    >>The xp machines do this perfectly well when I install the client side extensions patch, but they just will not pull down on the 7 machines unless i install the
printer first manually, then delete it and then run gpupdate.
Before going further, we can run command
gpresult/h gpreport.html with admin privileges to collect group policy result on the troubled Windows 7 clients to check the issue. Besides, we can also check event logs in Event Viewer to see if some related error events were logged.
Besides, I want to confirm if we have disabled
Point and Print Restrictions under both User Configuration and Computer Configuration. To have a consistent experience, it’s recommended that we disable the policy setting in both locations if we are dealing with mixed-level clients.
Regarding this point, the following article can be referred to for more information.
Point and Print Restrictions policies are ignored in Windows Vista SP2, Windows Server 2008 SP2, and later Windows operating systems

  • How to use an external hard drive and copy files to the disk for mac and windows??

please tell me how to copy files to external hard disk and use it for both mac and windows. there is the fat32 formatting bt i dont wanna use formatting because i already have a lot of content on the exteral hard disk. thank you.

It is simplest to have the HDD formatted to noe common to both Mac an PC.  ExFAT is one.  But to do that will erase all data on the HDD.
If the HDD id formatted NTFS, Mac can read but not write to it.  The solution then is to use a third party application such as Paragon or Tuxera which will overcome that obstacle.  These applications do have mixed reviews.
    Ciao.

  • New hard drive and Windows 7 issues

I bought a new 1 Tetra Samsung hard drive for my computer since 150GB was not enough. I did this because I need windows partitioned for school. After I installed the hard drive and inserted the Mac OS disk, it would not recognize the hard drive to install. Since then, I have read previous forums such as: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3322843?start=0&tstart=0
Now, the issue is: I went ahead and installed my Windows XP SP2 because I could not get Mac OS to install. I have also downloaded the Windows 7 Professional update from Microsoft and have a Operating Disk on its way in the mail. I am having some issues with sound and camera and probably others that I don't know about yet, like my graphics card and such. What should I do?
    1. Erase HD and install the Mac OS, because I do want this on my computer. Then download updates for Windows 7 bootcamp and reinstall Windows 7 when I get it in the mail.
    or,
    2. Is there a way to fix the driver issues that I am having without having to reinstall windows. I have not tried to partition yet and install mac.
I think it would be best to:
    Install Mac OS
    Download updates
    Bootcamp and Install Windows 7
What do you think and do you have any advice as how I should go about this. Oh, btw, living in a PC world and coming home to my Macbook Pro 3,1 and realizing that it is not as functional is kinda disappointing.
So, I found this site for the sound: http://www.stuffedcow.net/macbook_audio
    And: http://www.cirrus.com/en/products/cs4207.html
I am not sure how to go about installing a new driver. Do I download and save or do I run a certain .exe?
I found this post and was reading, but I am not certain about the right driver for the sound. If I erase the hard drive and install mac. Then, bootcamp and install windows, will I loose my wifi driver? Windows 7 should have that update, but according to this post, it may not.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2534313

If I were in your shoes I would want to understand why I couldn't install OSX on the internal drive before going any further. Without getting past that hurdle you may or may not be successful in your aims, but you are outside mainstream intended ways of running Bootcamp.
    Just a couple of starters:-
    1. Is your internal hard drive (samsung) formatted with a GUID partition table and HFS+ file system? All done in Disk Utility, booted from the Install disk.
    2. The Apple Install disk (plus subsequent Apple Software Updates) has all the drivers Bootcamp needs, without having to find and download from elsewhere. I run Windows 7 64 bit on two Macs and have never had to go and find a driver. (Of course Windows does it automatically for me for other hardware). Sorry if this next point is insultingly obvious, but just to check that you know you can put the Apple Install Disk in while running Windows and Windows find the installer.
You don't say anything what your MBP is or what version of OSX you are running. I am not fully up to date with the inplications of Lion and Bootcamp drivers as there is no install disk. I believe 2011 MBPs won't run XP.
Your comment "Oh, btw, living in a PC world and coming home to my Macbook Pro 3,1 and realizing that it is not as functional is kinda disappointing" implies that you haven't had a Mac very long. Although Macs are easy to pick up and use, there is a LOT to learn about customisation and using it properly and getting the most out of them. I have a number of relatives who still use OSX "out of the box"....it's like driving a car in first gear, and complaining "this car doesn't go very fast". Not a perfect analogy as speed is not the issue here.
Sorry if some of this post is missing the target...just take on board the bits that apply.

  • How do I send audio from my analog mixer to my wireless speaker?

Ok, really hope someone can help.
I have just purchased a wireless airplay speaker  (audio pro) and have it working fine with my iPhone and iPad.
I have a music room with my decks, mixer and speakers etc up the stairs and want to be able to stream my music from there to my new wireless speaker.
I was told I could do this with an Airport express, so purchased but can't get the music to play. Have I been miss sold this or can it work it this way?
    Decks to mixer
Mixer speaker out using two 3.5mm jacks to a single jack connected to airport express
    Airport express connected to router
I can get the Airport Express to show on my iPhone, but no music through my speaker. I now have two wireless networks, AirOne Airplay and Airport Express.
How do I connect the airport express to my AirOne Airplay network?
Hope this makes sense but any help would be greatly appreciated.

...looks like PC World have told me a lot of rubbish.
    Maybe not.
AirPlay is a networking protocol that runs over TCP/IP on either a wired or wireless network. At least three things are required, as minimum, to stream using AirPlay:
An AirPlay "server." Typically this would be iTunes. However you can stream from other sources using third-party solutions, like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil.
A network. AirPlay can stream over both wired or wireless networks ... and this network would need to be in-place for the stream to reach the "speaker."
An AirPlay "speaker." Of course, Apple provides these by ways of either the AirPort Express or the Apple TV. However, a number of other manufacturers now provide "AirPlay-Ready" devices as well. Your Audio Pro Air One speaker is an example of one of these.
Do you know of anything that let's you do this, streams from a non airplay system to an airplay wireless speaker?
In addition to being AirPlay-Ready, your Air One is also DLNA-compliant. DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) is an alternative solution to AirPlay. So, in this case, this would be the means to stream from non-AirPlay sources to your Air One.
Finally, your Air One has two audio input ports: 1) A digital optical, and 2) An analog line in. You should potentially be able to connect your mixer directly to one of these ports ... bypassing both AirPlay & DLNA.

  • Licensing Acrobat Pro Mac and Windows on same Mac

I have a large number Macs in our business running Creative Suite 6. A number of those operators also have a need to run LiveCycle Designer, which is a Windows only product. At present we buy addtional 4 GB RAM, VMWare Fusion and a Windows 7 licence in addition to purchasing a standalone copy of Acrobat for Windows. Is it really necessary for us to buy an additional licence for Windows Acrobat or would we be OK utilising the existing Mac Acrobat Pro licence?

If you're buying the perpetual license version of Creative Suite 6, you would have to buy separate licenses for Macintosh and Windows versions. If you're getting Creative Suite 6 through your subscription to the Adobe Creative Cloud, you can mix your two eligible copies, and download both Windows and Mac versions.

  • Analog distortion and digital's lack thereof

    Djokes wrote:
"analog is distorting - without a doubt - tape decks were like compressors in a way and that is what being simulated by e.g. mcdsp or crane song... However, using no eq or tape deck - the distortion is minimal.... but analog is distorting what is actually there - digital is not - cuz it aint "Seeing" it all....so the distortion will be false...And we dont need to start a discussion about that we like the distortion that analog brings - do we now?"
Let's start one though shall we.
First I fail to see how digital isn't seeing it all. Unless you're talking about inaudible frequency ranges which I will admit may be more important than not. Digital lays it all on the table. No compensation, no analogesque minimal distortion. So this would be a true picture of the audio right.
I mean if you're talking about the nuances of environment then digital still captures that stuff as it's mic'd. The thing digital doesn't capture is the distortion signature of the analog device. Now if you've been trained over decades to appreciate that distortion, hearing digital which lacks that of course would lead one to say it sounds cold.
The question is whether that distortion is the signature of quality music, or whether a talented producer/mixing engineer, can create a signature digital distortion which is either as good or better than analog. I'm a firm believer in the latter though I will admit we haven't surpassed analog yet. But I also believe the answer isn't in trying to emulate analog, but rather using the digital for its own strengths to create something all together new.

then we'd have to start a new topic called what is accurate:-))) Anyway, listening to a guy playing an acoustic guitar live would by many be considered a true source of audio.... So if we have a mic that can actually capture the movements the gas molecules in air makes and translate those correctly into currents - then we can assume that at least the mic is giving us the true source...If the mic "Which it cant" could translate the audio one 100 percent accurately into current the mixing board would only "see" current actually VOLTS and treat those as such...if we were to apply no eqs and no effect at all - the next step of inaccuracy would be your speakers which would have to translate the currents and make the membranes vibrate - which would then again compress and rare-fact the gas molecules in the air - thus making u able to hear it....
The mixing board is treating the current coming from the mic more or less constantly the way it came from the mic - the digital converters are only treating what comes from the mic 44100 times per second - this is why analog is called analog and is seen as treating the signal the way we hear it....
What do we hear - and what is there and what is our brain doing.....
the air that is being put in motion by a source being a true source or speakers is hitting our ears with the speed of sound - our ears are like a mic we a picking up differences in the molecules and our brain is translating it into what we call sound... Digital audio is actually exploiting our imperfections this is why we only need to sample 22050 times per second (Hearing Threshold) - the actually reason for sampling at twice the freq of hearing is because of the problem that causes the low pass filters to be there in the first place...(why the lowpass filters are needed would be too long to desribe)
The reason for 44100 is the hearing threshold of 22050 Hz - I dont really no anyone above thirty that can hear above 18000 Hz and make use of what he is hearing - so why not sample at 16000HZ - or 32000 Hz - the reason is mirroring cuz of imperfect sinuses - and facts of a physical law : There can be no 90° Low pass filter....
An EQ works with phase displacement - what actually happens when u cut 4 KZ by 4 db. is that the original signal is being phase displaced at the freq. u enter - what happens is that those freq.'s are being less amplified - There are physical laws about waveforms e.g. when two waves layer each other at the same maxima you will gain 6 db aka doubling the amplitude...when two waves hit each other where one has maxima and the other minimum you'll achieve complete cancelation...
what really happens when u talk analog dist. is that the sinus(Wavesform) is being distorted so it looks more like a triangular waves form.... This gives us a feeling of loudness and warmth...
If u want your digital mix to sound loud - take the "beautiful" sinus and turn it into a triangle by changing the gain - after that you will see the wave form being cut at the top and bottom but it aint sounding bad - only louder - Unless u overdo it:-))))
There's a lot more to it than what I just described - and it is quite interesting - If u go to amazon.com there are two kind a books about his stuff...1) The book describing it fragmental like I just did and Books that really describing it according to physics....Latter mentioned are VERY dry but if u take the time and have the interest you will find them real helpful and it will also change the way you "Look" at audio and mixing and recording
This is a huge topic consuming man since the day of recording audio...
analog |ˈanlˌôg; -ˌäg| (also analogue) noun a person or thing seen as comparable to another : the idea that the fertilized egg contains a miniature analog of every adult structure. • Chemistry a compound with a molecular structure closely similar to that of another.

  • Pp 2.0 and Windows 7 sound problem

I received the error "The currently installed sound card driver does not support direct sound input. Recording is not possible." I tried many of the solutions offered on forums. This is what I found worked for me. (I have an HP with realtek hd audio)
    I plugged in external speakers.
In adobe I went to Edit, Preferences, Audio Hardware, selected Pp windows sound, clicked on ASIO settings. For direct sound output ports I only have speakers selected and  "Yes" for sync reference. For direct sound input port I have stereo Mix selected and sync reference no. To the left I have "Direct Sound Output", "Full Duplex", and "Start Input First" selected.
In my computers control panel under sound I have "speakers" selected as my playback and "stereo mix" selected as my recording.
I hope this helps others who like me are not computer savvy.

Thanks! Though I upgraded to solve the problem, this is good to know.

  • Norton identity safe with firefox 5 and windows 7 compatibility?

Will my Norton Identity Safe work with Firefox 5 and Windows 7?

This is an old thread and the question was asked in relation to Firefox 22.
We are now on Firefox 23.0.1
If anyone has a problem using Norton with Firefox 23.0.1 or Firefox 23 please start a new thread. Use [/questions/new]
    mikeymack2002 says above
''1 temporarily disable Firefox auto update''
'' 2 download the new version of FIREFOX ...''
'' just simply that it doesn't like the new Firefox update at present,''
If I understand that correctly mikeymack2002 is saying Norton does not like the Firefox updater. If that is the case it is a separate problem. Please start a new thread.
I do not wish to go off topic and continue discussing Firefox 23 and Norton here but will just add some information before locking this old and solved thread.
With regard to Firefox 23 please note this Norton post about Norton <s>not</s> '''now''' being compatible with Firefox 23

'''Also note Norton sites may have a problem with Mixed Content Blocking (MCB) that my be an issue from Fiefox23, but there is no need to downgrade Firefox, just click on the shield in the Firefox addressbar and allow the Norton site'''.
