Analog  sound

i make music on my macbook but i want that analog sound,i dont like the digital sound its too clean and predictable, what kind of output gear should i get to bring me back the analog feel in my recordings, does logic pro have plug ins that are worth a try

The first thing I would say is that ALL Logic plug-ins are worth a try to see what they do. There is a very rich and diverse world awaiting you.
Second, you must get a decent audio interface. The built in audio in and out was never designed for high end music production... otherwise we would all be paying a lot more for our macs. I use the RME fireface at work, and like it a lot. On my Macbok Pro at home, I use the Focusrite Saffire LE, and I like that a lot as well, especially because it comes bundled with some very useable plugs.
Then there are any number of 3rd party plugins you could try. Great bang for buck, simple plugins can be found at airwindows.com. Many there are free to whet your appetite. They have no fancy graphic interface or metering, but they sound really good and are quite unique. A plug called "iron oxide" will give an analogue warmth that you will like, and there are others as well.
If you're really serious, though, you would get an external card made by Universal Audio, called the UAD2. The plugs that are available for that are a class above.
Happy hunting.
And BTW, get great monitors or phones, because the sound you are currently making might actually sound better than you think.

  • How Can I Get An Analog Sound From Logic's Plug-In's?

    Hi all,
I'm working on an 80's New Wave influenced project, for which Logic has many plug-in's -- unfortunately most all of them have a distinctly digital clean sound to them.
What are some ways (filters, compressors, etc?) that I can alter some of these sounds to sound more like they did on 80's analog recordings?

Well, 80's New Wave music was known for lots of things, but clean analog sound wasn't necessarily one of'em in my opinion.
The 80's was the first "digital decade", and as all the new toys showed up musicians everywhere went wild using and abusing them. Hence the 80's proliferation of digital reverb, gated drums, drum machines, buzzy synths and grainy samples.
I'd say that sound would be best approximated with Logic's Silver or Platinum verb, or Space Designer with some old Lexicon patches... And maybe the 'bit reduction distortion' plug, whatever it's called (in the distortion directory).
Are we talking Elvis Costello, Joe Jackson "New Wave", or Duran Duran, Thomas Dolby, Human League kinda new wave? There were lots of variations... But again, the over-use of digital effects and synthetic elements is what generally what makes the 80's sound like the 80's.
(at least, that's the way I remember it.... I'm still mad at the guy who convinced me to sell my Jupiter 8 coz that "buzzy" sound was dead now that DX7's had the 'clean digital sound of the future'. !!!)

  • Analog sound out of SPDIF

Analog sound out of SPDIF' I have connected a digital coax cable from the digital out to a Harman Kardon stereo receiver. The cable has been run to another room in order to watch downloaded shows/movies in my living room.
I receive DTS and DD sound just fine using this connection however PC sounds/MP3s and other analog sounds do not work. Is there a way to get this to work without having to add cables? Being forced to manually switch the output signal on the computer and on the stereo receiver is not a very good option.
If this is not supported are there any other sound cards that do support this? I can't imagine I am the first person to want to be able to watch DTS movies and listen to MP3s on a stereo receiver without having to swtich inputs/use a different set of cables.

? I just wanted to what I have experienced based on my digital spdif connection:
After looking at the support site for stereo receivers, I see the following statement:
"If you are going to connect from the Digital Out on your Sound Blaster to the Digital Input on your receiver, you will only receive multi channel audio when your are playing DVD games, or DVD movies, or standalone AC3 files. You will only hear stereo (front left and right channels) when playing MP3, MID, AVI, WAC, or WMA et."
This statement is confusing bc the last sentence leads me to believe that I will hear MP3, and WMA audio from the digital out but it will only be in stereo sound, not surround sound. That is fine with me, I simply want to be able to hear sound from a single cable.
Can someone clear that statement up from the support site? Will any MP3, AVI, or WMA? sound play on a stereo using the digital coax input?

  • Analog sound signal no digital sound

I have a A660-BT2G25 laptop which includes DOLBY® Advanced Audio.  I connected it via an HDMI cable to the back of my Denon receiver and set the receiver to receive either digital sound input or analog sound input from the laptop that I am currently using as part of my entertainment center. All items in my device manager are operating properly (the system shows NVIDIA High Definition Audio under sound four identical times with all divers identical in each, all with normal operation & no conflicts-not sure if this is normal). The computer recognizes the Receiver as an Denon AVAMP-3 in the sound setup in Control Panel. Further,  I have set it as the default and run test after test. The properties there indicate the device is operating normally and shows DTS, Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. w/HDCP supported, up to 192 sampling rate, 16 & 24 bit. Here is the rub. My receiver is only receiving analog signals under PCM (analog signal) and not DTS (digital) so while the sound is good and clear per my receiver upgrading the signal, there is no digital splitting of the signal to the 5.1 channels. If I force the receiver to take only DTS signals over the HDMI cable there is no sound at all. There is nothing wrong with the receiver. Anybody have any suggestions???

Hi, I just purchased a Mac Pro and am running 10.5.2. I am seeing the exact same behaviour when using the optical digital out from the Mac Pro to a Teac Receiver. It takes about 5 seconds for the audio to start playing from a "silence". If there is continuous playback there are no problems, but if there is ever a significant pause in the audio the receiver shows "unlock" on the display and stops playing out audio.
It certainly does seem like the digital stream is getting interrupted which then causes an issue with the receiver.
I haven't been able to find a solution yet.

  • 5.1 analog sound for games with dtt2500

    Hello,
For the sound on my PC, I have the material following, illustrated by the images below: an audio sound card Crative X-Fi extreme PCI express OEM connected with my decoder Crative Desktop Home Theatre 5.1 (which manages digital Dolby but not DTS) itself connected with my 5 HP and my subwoofer.
For the sound of a DVD, no concerns, thanks to an adapter, I can connect the optical grip of my sound card with the grip AC3 SPDIF of my decoder and obtain a digital sound dolby in 5.1.
On the other hand, for the resulting sound of video games, I do not know one single which take advantage of 5.1 digital but only 5.1 analog. I know thus how to connect my sound card via the black links (rear) and green (front) in my decoder to obtain an ANALOGICAL sound in 4.1. But impossible to obtain a sound in 5.1. I do not know how to connect my exit center/subwoofer via an orange-coloured cable in my decoder, which does not possess this entrance.
As a result, not possible to obtain from the analogical sound 5.1 for the games. I thus thought of this solution, the decoder DTS-610 from Creative http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=49
It decodes the signal resulting from three cables (orange, black and green) or 6 "ways" to convert it in DTS on the HP. I thus connect it between my sound card and my decoder via 3 analogical cables and a yellow optical coaxial cable. BUT, as my decoder does not manage the DTS, will it still work ? Could I thus obtain an ANALOGICAL sound 5.1 coming from games instead of the sound 4.1 Or is there another solution?
    Thank you for your help

    hi davebeme,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
That Logitech x530 is meant for a Desktop Audio that support Surround 5.1 channel that has 3 ports as you mentioned (Blue, green and orange)
You will need a USB Audio Adapter like this
    http://www.usbgear.com/USBG-SOUNDX.html
Like the Diagram,  the Surround 5.1 sound effect is your Logitech device
    Hope this helps
    Cheers!

  • S/PDIF Suddenly Stopped Working... Analog Sound Still Works

    Hi,
I'm running a setup with an Asus Crosshair IV Formula motherboard connected to a Sony receiver via S/PDIF cable. Until a recent reboot, it worked fine with ALSA / PulseAudio. I'm assuming something I upgraded stopped it working but I don't remember what was in the last update.
Plugging headphones directly into the soundcard works fine. Using a microphone plugged directly into the soundcard works as well. The issue appears to be purely with S/PDIF (I'm yet to try HDMI audio...).
I've tried plugging the receiver into another piece of equipment and that worked fine too, so there's some issue with the PC not sending information to the receiver, not an issue with the receiver or the cable.
I removed pulseaudio and this didn't help.
Please help me get this working again...

Found this thread on the Gentoo forums which suggested downgrading so that alsa-lib and alsa-utils were the same version as in the kernel, used downgrader to try this but still didn't work. Tried another approach, installing this package from AUR and upgrading back to 1.0.25, still no luck.
Trying to play something on the device gives no errors:

However, trying to play to the aplay -L listing 'iec958' gives:

I have no idea if that's normal or not.

Did you try this while running a DE? Did you try disabling/enabling powersaving?

  • How to play analog sound with PC input

    Hello,
I have connected a pc to the pc input (VGA sub D15) in my TV 46TL933. I am looking to connect the analog audio output from the pc into the TV. I already tried to connect the audio signal to the component input, but the tv doesn't listen that input when switched to pc input. How to play sound from pc on the 46TL933 TV ?
Thank you in advance for everyone who helps me.
    Kind regards
    John

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • 890GXM-G65 No onboard (realtek) analog sound

About a month ago I saved up enough of my precious dollars to upgrade my slow, single core computer into something a bit more passable for this day and age.  The new computer is much better, but it is lacking something very important to me: sound.
I can't hear any audio.  Windows, in all flavors, thinks the device is functional, while the Realtek control panel app swears up and down that I have not plugged anything into the back ports.  I've talked to my dealer, friends, one online forum, and finally found my way here, a forum dedicated to MSI boards that I somehow didn't come across earlier or I would've come here straight away.
Well, without further ado, here are the specs:
    890GXM-G65 MS-8642 BIOS 1.B0
    AMD Athlon 2 X3 3.2Ghz
    Crucial 2x2GB CT25664BA1339A
    Antek25 650W +12V~38A, +5V~24A, +3.3V~24A
    XP Pro SP3 x86 / Server 2003 R2 x64 / *cough* 7 x86
I have other hardware of course, but since I've been testing I've stripped it down to the bare essentials.
I also found a very similar thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=151266.0).  It was resolved by putting in a different sound card, but that's not an option for me.
As I've said, I've tried to figure this out with the help of others for some time now.
    Things I've tried:
    * Tried multiple OSes, including to my chagrin Windows 7.  I was going to try Delphi but the installer didn't like my setup, and well, this IS a gaming rig so it's not worth figuring out why.
    * Tried multiple drivers, both new, old, MSI, Realtek, and on 7 the default drivers, across all of the OSes above.
    * Tried jumping the front panel connector.  Supposedly you don't have to anymore, but just in case I shorted 5-6 and 9-10 to no effect.
    * Tried every combination of settings I could think of in the realtek manager, especially the one related to ignoring the front panel jack detection.
    * Tried removing, reluctantly, the board from the case.
    * Tried fresh install of 7 on the stripped down and removed board.
    * Tried RMAing the board after everyone concluded that the board was bad.  This was very painful.  I was without any reasonable computing power for a week.  To my great shock, this did not help and I am right back where I was last month.
    Things I can't try:
    * Testing the front panel audio (I don't have any such connector; JAUD1 is open)
    * Testing the digital out (again, no such equipment)
Things that people always ask just in case (if there's a stupidly easy thing I've missed though go ahead and ask it--I sometimes miss stupidly easy things):
    * Is the on-board sound enabled in the BIOS?  Yes it is.
    * Do the speakers work?  Yep.  Worked since the 90s, works in laptop today.
    * On 7 did you switch it from digital out to analog out?  Yes, sort've.  The analog out options couldn't be selected normally, but I could select the headphones option if I disabled the front panel jack detection.  Not having a front panel, I was not surprised to find that this didn't work (though the green volume bar was moving).  A 'disable rear jack detection' setting would be very nice.
I am stumped, as is everyone else I've asked--we all thought the old board must have been defective but getting a new, equally incapable board seems to put that theory to rest.  I'm well past the point where I'd normally write it off and use a spare sound card, but this board only has one PCI slot, and it is occupied.  The only available slot is the second PCI-E 16 slot, and I don't think they make sound cards for that.  And even if they did I really don't have the money to buy anything new; I've already sunk more than I budgeted for on this.
    Any ideas?

Enable Digital IO.. is not under properties.. Control Panel/Sound/Double Click (to open) on your choice of 'playback devices'.. in this case 'the default out choice..Speakers and then under the 'Custom' Tab.. it is the Only check box or option under the 'Custom' Tab. Odds are it is unchecked but worth looking. I unhooked my Speakers and it was still there. Also without my speakers attached is the  Configure Icon box.. but it is unavailable to open, unless the output choice (the Default out choice) is clicked on and highlighted. Then you can enter Configure.
We are both using Windows 7.. The question of your posted pictures is seen in the pictures. Lower picture shows 2ea Default.. Green Circle active as default. Your upper picture doesn't show Speakers as a selection, it shows a Headset. So my question was leading to a possible conflict of Default outputs. No I'm not drunk, but I am electronic capable.. poss that's a reason my explanation is seeming drunk..lol
My point is.. when setting your DEFAULT output choice... If you have your speakers 1/8" plugged into the Boards 'Green" jack. Have it that way only... no other speakers or headsets attached. Make the Speaker out choice under Control Panel/ Sound and under the Playback tab.. the only Default choice. Undo any second Default selection. That is the Output choice showing a Green Circle with a check mark inside it. That is what you are assigning as the audio out you are using. Just to see if there is a conflict. Again the posted lower picture that you show under the Sound box has 2 defaults.
You also have the Realtek HD Audio Manager shown. Possibly that is a conflict.. Is one set different than the other? You have 2 separate audio control programs. One is the Windows OS Sound control choice, and the other is your Realtek HD Audio Mamager. If you un-install the Realtek HD Audio Manager program, you still have the Windows 7 OS Sound controls. Both is just an option. You do want to always have your Windows Sound programs installed.. it controls a lot to include your Theme Sounds and more... Your Realtek HD Audio Manager is optional. If both are not set for defaults out, such as the exact same output selections... they will conflict.
You can always reinstall the Realtek Audio program. Since you have no sound and don't know if it is a board electrical problem.. as in a broken circuit. Use just one.. Windows one!! Then if you have sound from the Green jack input on the board... it will tell you that the board is infact OK. Then it all boils down to which program to use.
Fixing a problem is a task of the process of elimination. Make it simple to see if it will work.
Try again removing the Realtek HD Audio, optional program. Plug your speaker into the proper output. Make sure that under Sound and the playback tab.. speakers are default. That green circle. Highlight the Speaker choice. Click on Configure. and follow to configure. Double click on the Speaker selection. Go through all the tabs and make proper choices. Also on your desktop, on the bottom right open settings from the Speaker Icon next to the Time and Date. Volume is on and up, and the mixer setting also are up for volume. Now you are setup for speakers without out a secondary conflict of two programs and 2 defaults. If you have no sound after that... at least you know you finally have all the proper settings, and no conflicts.
Keep it simple and basic until you figure out your no sound woes. Still not working? Then it's time do figure out if you problem is software based or hardware based. Man, I hope you are following this.. I really am trying to help. I know problems can be so frustrating. I build and fix a lot of problems for Friends. No master but I do understand diagnostic processes.
I hope the next Post from you is that your possible conflicts are gone, and you have sound. If it is a conflict? Sure seems possible.

  • New Build FM2-A75IA-E53 - No (analog) sound on Speakers

    New build:
    MSI FM2-A75IA-E53 motherboard
    AMD A10-5700 Trinity 3.4GHz (4.0GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 65W Quad-Core Desktop APU
    G.Skill Sniper DDR3 1866MHZ (PC14900) 8GB Memory Kit (2 x 4GB)
    Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal
SAMSUNG DVD Burner SATA Model SH-224BB - OEM
    Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit - OEM
IN WIN BP655.300TB3L Black Steel / Plastic Mini-ITX Tower Computer Case (300 Watt TFX Power Man PSU)
Installed Windows, then MSI utilities and Windows Updates through March 2013. Set Speakers to Default and Default Communication Device. Plugged speakers into rear (green 3.5 mm) connector on the motherboard. No Sound. Plugged same Speaker cable into another computer and sound works great (so it's not the speakers or speaker cable).
Did a 2nd quick install on a 1.5 TB WD Green Hard Drive (SATA 6.0 Gb/s) and just loaded Windows 7 SP1 Pro 64-bit with no additional utilities or drivers, verified that the rear speakers were default. Disconnected front audio header cable, and again no sound.
In both setups I used the default Windows Media Player and played the 3 included audio tracks on a loop. None of the speakers were on mute and the green LED's were indicating movement for the sound in the volume control
I suspect it may be a problem with onboard audio - not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In Device Manager, under Sound, video and game controllers, are:
     - High Definition Audio Device
     - Realtek High Definition Audio Device
Under Properties for each, both devices are (reported as) working properly (i.e., no red X's or Yellow exclamation marks)
The cable for the front panel headphone connection also does not work. As I was plugging the speaker cable in, I did hear a hum on the speakers that went away when the cable was fully inserted (it's the same kind of hum you'd hear if you touched the tip of the cable with your fingers).
After I download the file at the link you provided, it turns out it's the same audio driver update (6.0.1.6823) that I downloaded and installed last night, but since it was a "new" download, I re-installed it (which uninstalls the old, reboots, installs the new, reboots) and the result is the same.
Even after a fresh OS install, Windows 7 natively installs "drivers" and I am unable to get any sound out, so it would appear to be even more basic than the Realtek drivers themselves. No sound even after a native install leads me to think it's either something in the BIOS or a hardware problem with the on-board audio.
If it is the BIOS, what can be checked? Under Mainboard Settings, under Integrated Peripherals, HD Audio Controller is [Enabled]. Are there any other settings related to audio?

  • Make stereo voice sound like analog from 70's movies

Hi, I have a voice over that is recorded in a high quality, normal voice and I would like to make it sound like a voice from 70's movies. Sort of gritty, analog sound. What should I tweak in Soundtrack Pro?
Here are the examples of the sound I'd like to achieve:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K5IEqmrUio
    or
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nP_7ZopT6oM
    or
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK10bJ3rSjQ
    Many thanks

If I only had stock STP effects to use, I would attempt this with a combination of EQ, Compression/Limiting, and a tiny bit of Overdrive or distortion.
Use the EQ to roll off the high frequencies a bit, experiment with compression to get the right punch, and very subtle Overdrive to try to imitate the tape grit.
    Have fun!

  • No Sound from External Speakers (It's 5.1 but It's Set to 2.1 Coz' It's Analog)

Hi. My external speakers were working fine just a few weeks ago. I set up the System Preferences correctly and have set 2-Ch 32 bit Float in Audio Midi Setup with 44100hz. On this late 2009 i7 iMac with the latest Lion 10.7.2, I'm using a 5.1 analog (Sound Blaster) with the green plug in the headphone jack of the Mac but I'm only using 2 of its speakers and the subwoofer where all satellite speakers are attached (2.1 setup). If I use the iPhone 3G's headphones, there is sound, it works. If I use the iMac's built-in speakers it works but I don't want to use the built-in iMac spekers because it might get busted if the sound it too loud which would be harder to replace.
If I use the external speakers it partially doesn't work (I checked that it's on, it's volume is full)- when I use the configure speaker in Audio Midi Setup and click on the right and left channel, only the subwoofer can be heard faintly.
Is this a Lion bug or the satelite speakers are busted (and just the subwoofer's working)? Thank you in advance.
    Gbu.

your connection might be faulty try jiggling it or twisting it gently while in the headphone jack.
I stress gently since there are optical outputs in it that you don't want to scratch. if you want true surround get a receiver that supports sound through hdmi or Toslink optical Audio, the latter I know your imac supports.

  • Inputs From Hi-End Analog Audio -- A/D Conversion

I would like to transfer rich, warm analog sound from vintage McIntosh equipment, Ortofon MC, from records, 78s, and cassettes to digital form. I know that in the music industry, stand-alone analog to digital converters are used. How do I find an "audiophile" quality analog to digital input concerter?
    Thank you,

  • No digital sound through digital-out coxial

    Hello,
    first my config :
    msi kt3ultra-ARU
    Athlon XP1800+
    1x256mb DDR RAM
    2x80GB IBM Raid 0 (great performance !!!)
    1x40 GB IBM HDD
    1x LG CD-Writer
    1x TEAC 32x CD-ROM
    no my problem :
i connected my yamaha sorround receiver through the digital out of the s-bracket with an coxial cabel but i only get the windows sound that click clack sound but no digital sound like dts or 5.1 when i play vob-files with defenitly have digital sound. it all worked fine but i reinstalled w2k and no i only get the system-sound.
i installed the latest ac97 drivers from msi but nothing helped.

    Hi,
Can you describe what did you do "before" and "after" the problem occured? Sounded like
before - no Yamaha speakers, no Win2k reinstallation
after - Win2k reinstallation, with Yamaha speakers
Or before and after (win2k installation) you have tested your Yamaha speakers and it worked?
What if you use analog output, does it sound?
If analog sound, then probably you have to check the AC'97 and Volume settings, such as to enable Digital-output etc.

  • C-Media Sound Problem

    Hi All:
I've been having a recurring problem ever since I've had my board:
Whether I run at stock speed or oc, my sound turns off intermittently. To turn it back on I have to go into the C-Media application and switch to analog sound and then back to digital. I'm using the S-brackets spdif optical output, the driver version I'm using is C-Media's latest - 5.12.01.0039.3(36), (and it also happens with the 0031 driver version that's the latest that MSI shows for the board in Live Update), and I always keep my agp/pci bus locked at 66mhz.
    Any suggestions?
    Anyone?
    Thanks
    BigAL

I wish I could help but I don't have a clue. Sounds to me like you have everything setup correctly =[
Sounds like a bug to me? Might want to try emailing someone about it?
Sorry I can't be of more service!
P.S. I've seen the sound chips on these boards do wierd things. On my friends computer the sound would not raise any higher after the 2nd notch (out of 8 notches total). This means using regular run of the mill speakers that you don't plug into the wall, you can barely hear the sound. The only way to amplify the sound was to pipe the sound out to a stereo system with an amplifier =P Lucky for me, my friend/customer wanted to do just that so we circumvented that problem. I know this doesn't help you but it may comfort you knowing you're not the only one having troubles with the sound chip.

  • Looking for information about AS3 sound classes in "audio" wrong places?

I'm looking for in depth information about ActionScript 3.0 sound classes. No matter where I search I continually encounter the same sort of kindergarten level descriptions, which never teach more than what we can readily glean from Adobe's documentation. Someone must know where there a discussion that really gets to the heart of the matter.
I've read Adobe's LiveDocs on the Sound, SoundChannel, SoundMixer, SoundTransform classes. Indeed, they provided me enough guidance to create my own streaming MP3 player, with volume, pan, my own custom mono mix, http request, a preloading animation, and peak meters ...
Here's an example (in the last statement of the following code) where I understand the end effect, but I fail to comprehend what happens at the compiler level:
    var currentSoundSource:Sound = new Sound();
    currentSoundSource.load(new URLRequest("http://www.mySite.com/myRecording.mp3"));
    var audioChannel_01:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
    audioChannel_01 = currentSoundSource.play();
Unfortunately the class definitions in LiveDocs are quite terse, and they're seemingly incomplete with respect to:
         •     advice on best practices
         •     a thorough coverage of class to class interactivity
         •     a description of exactly how audio streams/plays into channels
... and in certain cases it appears that Adobe's descriptions are not fully accurate.*
Regarding best practices, at first blush I'm sure everyone ponders over the fact that SoundChannel and SoundMixer have a stop method while the Sound class does not.
One assumes that this surprising design must bear some advantages. If so,  what are they? Where are the analog sound mixer analogies? What would be the disadvantage of a sound class with a stop method ...  particularly when they have their own play method?
Where are the discussion of these concepts? (Even if Adobe hired the wrong guy to write its sound classes, there should be some follow through that thoroughly explains the existing situation.)
    Phrankie
    * Here's an instance where the docs appear to be partially in error. (Is "and play" mistakenly included in the following?)
"The Sound class lets you lets you create a new Sound object [and] load and play an external MP3 file into that object."
... uh, mmmmmm ... we play an MP3 into a sound class object?
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say the following:
A soundChannel can receive the audio data from a sound class object. We can play a sound object into an SoundChannel and manipulate it by altering the SoundChannel's soundTransform property, and we can stop it with the SoundChannel's stop method.
