Anchor links within a PDF?

Is it possible to create anchor links within the body of a PDF? How?
For example, having a list of topics at the top and then creating anchors that drop down to each topical section.
Thank you!

Yes. You can either used Named Destinations, or page views.
Named Destinations need to be set up before the link is created, but can be
used by more than one link. Page views are created ad-hoc when you select
the action "Go to page view".

  • Links within a pdf won't open in Safari, but work fine on Explorer, Firefox

I created a pdf with embedded links and posted it to my site. The links within the pdf work just fine with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, but they will not open with Safari, neither on a Mac nor on a Windows platform.
Why is this happening and how can I fix it?

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Try this. In the Safari window, click the Preferences icon right side of page.
    Then select the General tab.
At the bottom of that window, below, "Open links from applications", choose the option you want.

  • How do you open a link within a PDF in a new window?

I created a PDF that will be viewed in a browser. Is there a way to set the links within the PDF to open in a new window?

Did you get an answer to this?   I am having the exact same issue.  My source html document has a link which specifies a target of _blank, but when I generate a pdf from that html doc, view the PDF in my browswer, and click the link, it overlays the PDF instead of opening a new window with the linked URL.  I've seen this posted as an issue a number of times, but have yet to see a solution.

  • How do I get a link within a PDF to open a new tab in a web browser?

How do I get a link within a PDF to open a new tab in a web browser? Previous forums (for earlier versions of InDesign and Acrobat) mention something about JavaScript, but I'm using InDesign CC and Adobe Acrobat Pro CC
    Thanks.

When you're looking at the PDF that's on your site, is it opened in the browser or directly i Acrobat/Reader? If in the borwser, do you know if it's being viewed in the browser's default PDF viewer or Acrobat/Reader? It probably won't work in non-Adobe PDF viewers.
Are you saying that when you click the link that two new browser tabs are opened with the same URL, instead of just one as you'd expect, or something else?

  • Clicking PDF links within a PDF no longer working after upgrade.

After upgrading Adobe Reader to version 11.0.10, I can no longer click and open links to pdf documents that are within a pdf.  These files are password protected, but I don't even get the prompt to put in my password, I try to click a pdf link, and nothing.  There must have been some type of additional security/protection added in this version of Adobe Reader because I was able to open the same links in the earlier version of 11.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?
    Thank you.

    Hi Prabhakar,
we have an open call on this issue. SAP replied on the 10th of March:
"As this DTN issue isn't reproducable on our SP15 system, please upgrade your KM version to PL1, as per NOTE 911395(same as our test system). If for some reason the issue still exists after this upgrade I will further this issue with our Dev colleagues."
I read the note mentioned (which contains a list of the changes in PL1) and it says nothing about this issue in particular, if I'm not mistaken. Our system is on SP15 (not SP15 PL1), so we'll have to upgrade to PL1 first before we can investigate this any further. I currently don't know when this update is scheduled by our systems engineering department.
Is your system on PL1 by any chance? If so, then the problem has not been fixed in PL1 - which would be interesting for us to know.
    Thanks,
    Jens

  • Anchors/links within pages

I really need to link from one iWeb page to an anchor inside another, but can't figure out how or if this can be done. To see what I mean, go here:
    http://web.mac.com/wildwing1/Recipes/Index.html
What I want to do is make an anchor on each of the recipes in the other pages, then link this page to each of them by name so people can click on each recipe name and go directly there instead of having to search each page. I'd also like to link each recipe to a printable file, but think I may have figured that one out.
I used to work in GoLive and Photoshop, and while I like iWeb and iPhoto a lot more they do seem more constricting in areas like this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Suzanne

Anchors are not directly supported in iWeb, but there are numbers of work-around.
Post editing gets old real quick, especially when you like to have many anchors as in your site.
From looking at your Recipes pages, they are long windows, so the easiest thing to do is to have a javascript to scroll to the right spot when the window is open, I made sample of your pages - I only made three anchor links:
    http://hdl.50webs.com/Anchors1/From.html
In the From.html page, the text links need to be added as link to an external page (in inspector); so you can specify the full path including the anchor, eg:
    http://hdl.50webs.com/Anchors1/To.html#1
The scrolling script is attached to the To.html page using HTML Snippet, see its source code of the following:
    http://hdl.50webs.com/Anchors1/Tofiles/widget1markup.html
You need to fill in the anchors array with the Y position of each recipe.

  • Linking within a PDF file in preview

Maybe I am just missing something here. I cannot find anywhere in the preview application in Mountain Lion a way to link to other parts of the PDF file. This was one of the most useful features to me within preview. There was a plain as day button under annontations on Lion's preview but it is gone from mountain lion...I wouldn't believe that apple would have dropped this feature, especially since the preview help still tells you how to do it but there just is no button to actually do it? Is it gone? Thanks...

    Hello,
What happens if you change your default browser and then try "preview in browser"? Or you can use the preview URL in another browser and see how that goes.
    Cheers

  • How to create anchor links within a spry accordion?

I am using the spry accordion from DW CS6. HAving 6 panels.
I want to do this but can't manage it the usual html way...and I am clueless about javascript:
I want to create a wordlink that forwards people to the content of a different panel within the same accordion.
I tried the usual naming of anchor and creating link to such but nothing happens. I googled a bit for answers but I come up with js and that is abracadabra to me. The names in the js are nothing likie html classes that I can target so I have no clue what to do.
Any help would be very appreciated on this matter.

  • Linking to a Named Anchor link in a PDF

Does anyone know if you can create a link in the Dreamweaver
editor to another page of an PDF other than page 1.
    For example, something like this.

  • HT2506 How can I insert a link within a PDF document with preview.app in Mavericks

Would like to create a selfmade table of contents that links to the right place in the pdf document
    Thanks for the support!

Preview is not really a PDF editor. You can do basic stuff such as add annotations, insert pages, but you cannot add hyperlinks.

  • When clicking on a link within a pdf nothing happens. When I mouse over the link the cursor turns into a finger/hand with a W at the bottom.

Both Adobe and Firefox are on the lastest versions. Clicking on the link deosnt bring anything up.

Does this only happen if you open the file embedded in Firefox and not when you open the external Adobe Reader (Tools > Options > Applications) ?

  • From a PDF in a browser window - open links within in that PDF in a new window

    BACKGROUND SCENARIO:
Users view a PDF document within their browser window (default behavior at my organization).  Key point is, the PDF isn't being viewed in an Acrobat Reader window, it's being viewed within the browser window.
Within that PDF, are many links to intranet pages. And incidentally, this PDF happens to be a document that is updated frequently (More on this caveat in a moment)
EDIT: The end users are end users, smart people, but not necessarily super-sophisticated computer users.
    MY QUESTION:
When a user clicks a link within the PDF, I want the new page to open in a new window, NOT in the same window that the PDF was being viewed in.
I've done a fair amount of homework:  The prevailing answer is to use Acrobat Pro's "LINK" feature to turn the hyperlink into a javascript command that opens the link in a new window, and to do this (a) MANUALLY, (b) ONE LINK AT A TIME, and (c) Repeat steps (a) and (b) EACH TIME the document gets updated.   (Back track now to my earlier caveat.. this is a frequently changing document with lots of links... Doing manually and repeating the whole process each time the document is updated is a lot of work.)
I believe there are some add-on products that make this easier too.
So my question is...  Other than add-ons, Is there another way?  a better way?  a more efficient way?  Or is there another way, on the way?
    SOMEWHAT RELATED QUESTION:  (EDIT)
Another answer that would more or less satisfy me:  is there a way either from the calling HTML page, or from within the PDF document itself, to force the PDF to open within its own Acrobat Reader window, rather than within the browser window?  That would mostly dodge the issue, by opening linked pages in the browser anyway.
A little extra background information: The document also uses password protection (a management requirement), which is why opening the links in the same window is such a pain.  Back-keying back to the document after viewing the link requires re-typing the document password, a noted pain.  I'd accept a fix to that particular problem too, but I don't think there is one.  Either way, the new-window question is one I'd like to solve.  (FYI, I asked the password retype question separately over in the security forum, here:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/5055162#5055162).

You can't update the destination for a link using JavaScript, because there's no way to read the link's current action. While there is a setAction() function to create a new action on an existing link, there's no "getAction" function.
In terms of how a PDF file opens, nothing in the document or in the HTTP headers can influence whether the file is opened in the browser or on the desktop - that's a user preference. What you can do with scripting on the server is send HTTP content-disposition headers that define the PDF file as something the user should download and save, rather than something the browser should try to open.

  • Links within .pdf

    Hello!
I have a .pdf file that was created from a MS Publisher file.  The Publisher file has links that were thus created in the .pdf.  When I try to click on the link within the .pdf file, the hand cursor has a little 'w' on it and it actually won't let me just click on the link.  I have to right click on the link and then select open in new window in order for the link to open.
Am I doing something wrong with the linking?
    Thanks!
    Jessica

Within Publisher, I created the .pdf using the menubar option of Adobe.  I know when I try to print to .pdf, the links don't work at all.  The links were created within the Publisher file, not the .pdf file.  Once I created the .pdf from Publisher, the links were brought over.  The issue is that the links in the .pdf don't work appropriately.  I have to right click on the link in order to open it.  I can't just left click on it and it will open.

  • Creating a link in a PDF form to open into a new window

I have created the PDF form and every thing seems to be working fine. But I would like to set a link in the form that would open into a separate page. I have tried target="_blank" and onclick="window.open(this.href, 'child', 'scrollbars,width=650,height=600'); return false" with no success. Can someone give me some direction on how to create a link within a PDF form that will open into a new window?

    Try this, using JavaScript:
    app.launchURL("http://www.adobe.com",true);
